Had my LaPavoni machine rebuilt 3 times before I sent it to Home Espresso Repair in Seattle. They said it would be up to 5 weeks to get repaired. It took less than 3 weeks to get it back and DAMN, it works as good as the day we bought it 30 years ago! What made it even better was that it cost half the price that we paid before at the so called other repair shop in Phoenix and they did not fix the machine correctly and they had it for over 60 days. I would recommend that you pay for shipping and send it to Home Espresso Repair, they did it correctly at a very reasonable price. Simply the best people here. I called looking for help getting my Pasquini Livia repaired. This is an older machine and has been a daily driver for over 20 years. Bailey gave me great info over the phone and prescribed a part swap that was reasonably priced and easy to do. I picked up the part and was able to install it at home in a few minutes. I really appreciate the helpful and knowledgeable support I am getting form Bailey and Will. In our throwaway culture, it's great to know there are places where you can save good espresso machines from the landfill. Home Espresso Repair & Cafe does this and so much more! THE ROSES: Fair prices. Best of all, they don't try to 'upsell' you, and will give you an honest assessment on whether or not it makes sense to repair/rebuild or replace your espresso machine. They also sell reconditioned machines at excellent prices (you can get the venerable Starbucks 'Barista' machine for $185 - with a 1yr warranty!). They also have a small coffee bar, selling espresso drinks and beans at good prices. Very pleasant staff. THE THORNS: To be fair, they could've done a better job with my machine. It was leaking where the filter holder attaches to the machine, and they charged me about $90 to recondition. When I took it home, it still leaked. I read the repair persons notes on the invoice, and sho 'nuff, they said, 'still leaks around filter when using 1-cup basket'. Well no sh!t, Sherlock; that's why I brought it in. Called the shop to ask about it, and they said the tech would call me back. Never heard from them again. So I did some research and some logical thinking, and concluded that the problem was an old Pod Gasket that wasn't sealing anymore. Ordered the part myself and fixed it. So what did I get for my money? Well, they did clean and de-scale it. Still, if you see a problem, you fix it, yes? And if you can't, you tell the client, yes? Don't bury it in the paperwork and say nothing when the client is there, OK? Also, no munchies to go with your coffee. Parking can be a bit dicey. They have a 2-space parking lot in the back, but getting out with the cross-street traffic can be tricky. THE VERDICT: Good espresso machines are a joy, but they aren't cheap. For a repair, re-condition, or just a cleaning and tune-up. These guys will make your machine as good as new for a fraction of the cost of a new one, but you have to review their work to make sure they actually fix the problems you have. UPDATE (10/31/18): I got a text from the tech; her colleague didn't pass my message to her in a timely manner. I explained what happened, and noted that the machine still leaked a bit around the filter holder. We agreed the main gasket likely needed replacement as well, and she promptly sent me one - at no charge! I quickly put it in, and - Bob's your uncle - no leaks! Upgrading to four stars for conscientious (if not the fastest) customer service. STRONG RECOMMEND! read more

Friendly and excellent service. I had left my Rancilio Silvia machine in freezing temperatures with the boiler full. Then to make matters worse, I tried to repair it myself and was in way over my head. I dropped off my machine in pieces in two cardboard boxes. No judgements we're made, just a positive attitude and a we can fix it, no problem! I thought I'd be buying a new boiler for sure, but Home Espresso Repair was able to salvage that too! I have had my old Starbucks Barista Espresso Machine serviced here several times over the years. They have always been great but this time was extra awesome. Sam helped me. He ran extra tests and did extra tweaking to optimize whatever life the machine has left. He took great care both explaining what he saw and also making it work the best it could. The team replaced several little things (missing feet, a bent drip tray) which has made using the machine at home so much better. Sam also gave tips on home maintenance. I'll never go anywhere else. I brought my suddenly malfunctioning espresso machine in for repair this morning, ready to buy a replacement if it was unfixable. The thoughtful owner asked me some questions. From my answers, he deduced the trouble was relatively minor. My machine had run out of water and I had failed to check the water level before brewing a cup. The lack of water made the machine draw in air. The air expanded because of the heat of the machine creating a vapor lock. All that was needed was time to cool down, and to replenish the water well. He plugged in and turned on my machine to check if this was the case. Sure enough the machine worked as well as ever. Not only did he fix my machine, he advised me to prime the machine while it is cold through the steam wand rather than the filter head. This will add years to my machine. How much did I owe for this service and lesson? Nothing! My machine is over 15 years old. I have brought the machine here for routine maintenance, bought cleaning powder, as well as the occasional shot of delicious espresso. I will continue to bring my business to Home Espresso Repair. Very friendly and competent team. We got several rejections from other repair shops in Seattle as we have a not very common Italian Bezzera machine which runs on 220V only. But Will at Home Espresso Repair said he'll give jt a try. It turned out to be a difficult repair, spare parts had to be ordered overseas twice... but Will didn't give up and fully repaired our machine for a very reasonable price. Great!! Imagine my happiness to discover a gorgeous reconditioned Estro Profi under the Xmas tree several years back, which my husband found here. They have repaired it a couple times quickly and economically, and I must say my espresso tastes just about as good as any of the top-end places in the city. I have frequented this little hole in the wall for a couple of years to buy espresso machine parts to either keep our machines going or spiff them up to sell on the evil auction empire. Every time Home Espresso Repair has come through for me; they have the parts, the knowledge and the time. It's a blast to see all the different machines packed up to head back out to their owners throughout the country. Their espresso is also quite good and they'll take the time to help you improve yours if you're willing. Buy an espresso from them and then mention you're using an xyz machine and would like to make better espresso. Never again. I send them our old la Pavoni for repair, asking for full refurbishing. I packed it like they said to, carefully double boxed. They sent it back single boxed. They hadn't fully serviced it. Sight glass leaked like mad. They hadn't replaced the seals--not on the sight glass, not anywhere I could see--nor re-seated the sight glass properly. When I called them about it, they told me how to re-seat the sight glass. That was nice, but didn't really solve the problem! Talk about not taking responsibility. I contacted them later to buy the seals. In an e-mail so full of typos I could hardly read it, they again told me how to re-seat the sight glass myself. I e-mailed back asking about the seals. They never got back to me. So: never again. read more

Great. Wonderful. Great price. Great service. Brought our Pavoni in for repair. We were driving in for the day from Bellingham (up by Canada) so he managed to slip our repair in quickly so it didn't have to wait around for 2 or 3 weeks for us to return. Fixed a bunch of things, works better than when we bought it from a coffee nut. He showed us how to use the machine better, and produced a shot of sublime wonderfulness from our machine at the same time. Not sure if we can reproduce that, but that's us. He (they) makes great drinks as well. Definitely 5 stars; however, one thing to keep in mind: It is a hole in the wall, small business. I think he may have some help, but for the most part he is it. That means that if he forgets (we all do) something = it is gone. If he gets distracted by a rush of people or a really interesting problem = first in first out goes bye bye. I can tell he (really) tries to deal with it all, nicely, professionally, etc. And ours went without a hitch. But I have both "been" that type of business and worked with many of them and the fact is that you (customer) need to be (nicely) involved in the process... Kind of make sure your machine stays in his field of view so to speak. So if you want your machine repaired economically by an artist, nice guy, and great technician go here. Deal with organic nature of the place. I don't think I could find a place more reliable even if I wanted to go for soulless corporate, but it may be out there. read more

Top notch, friendly and knowledgeable. I'm a do-it-yourselfer, and I had already disassembled my machine and found that I needed a part. Another shop might have made me bring the machine in to charge me for labor, but he was happy to sell the part. He also pointed out a second part that likely failed, so I picked it up to, possibly saving me another trip. He went through the hassle of finding a boiler and bring it out to the counter to show me exactly where I would find the other part. I also brought in my portafilter with a broken handle, to see if he had a replacement. Instead of just selling it to me over the counter, he put it on for me. He's got a customer for life, don't hesitate to use the shop! read more

Will runs a great shop and is a great guy. We had been looking for a special machine that could pull shots and steam at the same time and pull 100 shots in a couple hours. He spent quite a bit of time educating us on what few machines out there could do what we needed it to do and would be able to do it in the challenging environment we needed it to do it in (the middle of the desert at Burning Man). He kept his eye out for us and eventually one of his customer had a machine that would work for us. He helped us get in touch with that person and then we were able to get the machine we needed. We came in for an espresso and a little advice on super automatic espresso machines as we're at the point where we are trying to figure out if repairing our current broken one is worth it, or if it's time to put it out to pasture and go with a new one. The guy behind the counter pulled two wonderful espressos and explained that while he did not repair or know all that much about super automatic machines, he did write down a suggestion for another place in Seattle who specialized in super automatic machines. After seeing us goggle at the cool espresso machine he used, he also gave us the information on that machine as well. :) Five stars for the great espressos but especially for the wonderful customer service, especially considering that we weren't in his target market. I can't say enough good things about this place. The owner has done a fabulous job of maintaining the unsung hero appliance of the household: My Sirena Espresso Maker. It gets us all out of bed in the morning and sometimes needs little love of its own. This guy brings it and then some! The service is prompt, fair, and courteous. And, bonus, I have stopped in numerous times to tell him about this or that little issue I'm having with the Sirena and he often sends me out the door with easy tips for how to fix it myself at home! My boyfriend and I live in Pullman, WA and needed to get our 1980's Gaggia Coffee Classic repaired, so we took it to the guys at Home Espresso Repair. It took a couple of tries, but they offered to ship the machine to us and guaranteed their work. When our machine came and still didn't work, I boxed it up, sent it back over and they fixed it + shipped it a second time, with a little baggie of espresso (so we could test it out) and they cleaned the outside of the machine up! We purchased our Zacconi Riviera Baby Lusso over 30 years ago in San Francisco where it was serviced and maintained. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this guy! It is rare to encounter someone as knowledgeable and generous as he is, in ANY field. I'd been searching, with no luck, for local help (NYC area) to clean up an early 90s era Estro Profi (Saeco) that I'd received as a gift. Rather than having me $hip the machine across the country, William walked me thru the basic issues, and I was able to fix them myself with a few basic parts (and some tasty beans!) that he shipped out. I learned a ton about the machine, and it didn't cost me hundreds of dollars. Unlike a lot of these other guys, William was patient and respectful as I learned about my machine (I knew nothing before). He is a person of integrity with a passion for all things 'coffee' and his clients are fortunate to have the pleasure of working with him.
