We were thrilled to find two seats at the end of the bar when we arrived. As luck would have it, the two gentlemen next to us eventually left, allowing us to slide over and enjoy an even better view of the TV for the rest of the game. I started with a Tito's and club soda, but unfortunately, something seemed off--perhaps the club soda was flat. The drink just wasn't good. To their credit, the bartender took it back without hesitation and was very accommodating. I then ordered a Negroni after the woman sitting next to us highly recommended it. I don't usually drink gin, but this cocktail was absolutely delicious and changed my mind. Since we were there for several hours, we shared an order of zucchini and eggplant chips and happily snacked on them throughout the game. The atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming, with a nice mix of ages and people enjoying the evening. We made sure to leave our bartender a generous tip since we occupied our seats for the entire game. Even though the Knicks didn't pull out a win that night, we certainly didn't leave defeated. I'd happily return for another game, cocktail, and fun evening out. And maybe even get dinner there. Little did I know there was another big room in the ack once you past the restrooms. Our return visit was a completely different experience. I appreciate the way the owner handled the situation and his willingness to have an open conversation with us. It doesn't change what happened that first night, but it did change my impression of how much he cares about his guests and his business. I wanted my review to reflect that as well.

Whoever's behind the bar here has been trained or grew up around it. Food's better than a second-floor pub between 5th and 6th has any right to be. The JRB burger comes on a house-ground patty (they grind in-house, and you can tell, loose texture, actual seasoning), caramelized onions cooked down all the way, not just softened, good cheese pull. Fried pickles on the side had a crisp cornmeal shell and stayed crunchy under the burger juices, which never happens. Buttermilk chicken salad was the surprise. Chicken actually brined, crust stayed on, greens weren't an afterthought. Only real knock: music was loud. Not sports-bar loud, more like the bartender's playlist got away from him. Fine at the bar, harder at a table if you want to talk. Room's got real bones. Reclaimed barn wood, old rail track as a foot rest, that big 45-star flag on the wall. Been here almost 20 years and it's aged into itself. For the neighborhood the pricing's fair. Beats P.J. Clarke's on the burger, loses on quiet. Go for a beer and a burger, not a date.

I must say, Home Kitchen was absolutely amazing. My lady and I stopped by for brunch, and everything exceeded our expectations. She ordered the chicken pot pie, and I went with the meatloaf and mashed potatoes--both dishes were cooked to perfection and full of flavor. You can really tell they put care into their food. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy a meal together. On top of that, Sergio, our waiter, was fantastic--attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our visit. Overall, it was a great experience from start to finish. If you're looking for a great dining experience, Home Kitchen is a must-visit. Their salads are nothing short of phenomenal--vibrant, fresh, and bursting with flavor. The calamari? LPQ (Le Pain Quotidien), you've got competition! Other than noise -- it's REALLY loud in Westville -- lunch was great, with enough variety to keep each of us happy. I had a delicious falafel sandwich. It was stuffed with cabbage slaw, tomato, arugula, ranch yogurt sauce and harissa tahini served on a potato bun. With a choice of fries or salad, I went with arugula, topped with marinated red onion. They don't skimp on portions. Other than not being able to eat the sandwich like a sandwich, I was really happy. (I cut off pieces.) A few women ordered salmon with thick grilled asparagus. (I prefer thin.) Someone got a turkey burger and sweet potato fries. It didn't look great -- turkey burgers generally don't -- but she said it was delicious. Our server Danny was attentive, keeping our water glasses filled and all the orders straight. PLUS .... we each got our own check!
