I am extremely disappointed with this restaurant. Not only did they run out of rolls and mac and cheese, but the kitchen also closed just 10 minutes after we arrived and we were not even informed by the host. This level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable. How can a restaurant run out of such basic and popular items? And to not even inform us about the early kitchen closure is just disrespectful to customers. I will not be returning to this establishment and I will make sure to let others know about the poor service and lack of communication. All of this was on a FRIDAY night. Wow. I miss Homer's from their old location. Why? The side portions were larger. The cornbread muffins were tasty. The ambience was loud and happy. The new location is in the old Franke's location. It's more high faluting. Sides are pitifully small. Cornbread is very cheap tasting and too sweet, almost unedible. Thankfully familiar employees followed the move. I almost always order the veggie plate. I feel cheated with the pitifully small sides. There are many good local restaurants in Little Rock. I just want the old Homer's back. Sigh! read more

I've been a handful of times and because the food is great, I rated it good, but I was really bothered to see a 60 cent up charge on both my ticket and my friend's ticket on our last visit for "additional" bread. I asked for a roll and my friend asked for cornbread for our complimentary bread and they brought us two rolls that had been smashed on the dirty underside of another bread basket. I asked for a replacement roll and they said, "you don't want it?" As if I wanted dirty smashed bread and I said no. I returned the smashed ones and my friend again asked for her cornbread so they brought it, then when we got our checks, there were two up-charges for bread, "complimentary" bread. I'm a young black woman and no offense but I hate when people use the race card...Like FRFR I go to get they cabbage and whatever else my husband wants. Our service be quick food be great and how I asked it to be cooked. When I had a problem one time the sweet ladies fixed it. They are friendly and always compliment me and say they like my puff ball on my head . My dad has been eating here for years. 2.5 Stars. I'm a big fan of the "meat and two" home cooking concept, and know that the original Homer's location near the airport has been a local favorite for decades. I'll also say that this particular space and shopping center has been cursed since Hooters was forced out of business here in the 90's. Homer's has been here for a while, and does a brisk lunch business. Having said that, I've eaten here many times, and consider this restaurant below average. I had the chicken fried steak today, which was a little on the small side, and judging by its shape and size, seemed to be frozen and pre-packaged, and topped with gravy from a powdered mix. The mac and cheese and green beans were small portions that also appeared to be pre-heated and canned. The food came out quickly and was hot (easy to do when all that you do is scoop and serve), but bland. A generous amount of salt and pepper was a slight improvement, but that's about as generous as I can be. We were seated quickly, and our waitress was friendly and efficient. But I can say without hyperbole that the food here is only slightly better than a TV dinner. I regret driving past Shorty Small's to get here today, and really missed the Dixie Cafe today. read more

I HAD high hopes for this place. The menu looked good. It contained many southern staples. I went with the Meatloaf, Mashed potatoes brown gravy, Turnip greens and Cornbread. My wife had the Country fried steak, Mashed potatoes with white gravy, Green beans and a Roll. Now that's a meal....right? Well, not so fast...seems they left the southern out. The meatloaf was pretty good. It did not fall apart like other restaurants. The potatoes tasted okay. My brown gravy was a disappointment, it was more a congealed mass atop the potatoes. The turnip greens were ....let's say straight out of the can. They lacked any trace of seasoning. The cornbread had SUGAR in it...sugar. It tasted like Marie Callander's and I don't mean that as a compliment. The country fried steak by my wife's report was the worst she's ever had. I declined a bite. She enjoyed her green beans although I thought they were too salty and again lacked any hit of southernerness. The roll was okay. We did have a highlight, the fried pies were good. The were served piping hot. Service....well let's just say I asked for a box for the bread three times. I finally snared a second server for it. I have too many OTHER and BETTER choices so I doubt I'll be returning. ONE SUGGESTION, someone in management needs to go eat at CRACKER BARREL and taste what they should be aspiring to achieve. read more

We ate at Homer's West this past Saturday for lunch. The restaurant had been selected for an impromptu meeting of local amateur radio enthusiasts via their Saturday 10 a.m. lunch net on 146.940. The group met in a private room that seated all 13 attendees easily with room for a few more. I had the vegetable plate with four selections for $6.99. I selected sweet potato casserole, green beans, greens, and cole slaw. All were served in small bowls resting on a plate. Homer's supplies only a knife and fork as tableware, so much of tasty, nutritious juices were unable to be eaten. My wife selected a club sandwich and was happy with her selection. A fellow radio operator next to me had the catfish and rated it "OK". Everyone in our party seemed satisfied and I heard no complaints on the food. Homer's West is all about Southern comfort food and not fine dining. The service was superior and we left a bit extra for our server. The entire front staff we met we engaged and courteous. We somehow managed to leave our hat under our chair and upon our return found it setting on the bar. Protocols are in place and staff trained. Nice to find! So, yes, we're now a fan of Homer's West. I need some simple, "down home" cooking. Wait, why isn't never "up home" cooking? Anywho... I need a no frills, affordable, non-pretentious place to relax and grub. Well, Homer's is THE place. Not as ordinary and stale as bar food. Not a diner (well, original location is...almost), but a great place for lunch. Today, chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, cucumber salad, a yeast roll and a frosty Blue Moon. DAMN!!! I am enjoying this meal, while watching the Major League Playoffs. How American is this? Well, if it was up to an American corporation, all of these items would be made elsewhere (damn self-serving bastards). First time eating breakfast and man did it disappoint. Ordered eggs over medium and what I got were two unrecognizable crispy brown things. Maybe got two bites that were edible. Worst eggs I've ever gotten at a restaurant. Over medium means done whites runny yolks. Someone needs to show whoever's cooking how to fry eggs. read more

A good change from your home menu. When they get the order right, it's really tasty and almost homemade. They get the order correct about a third of the time. My wife loves their sweet potato casserole. I usually go with the chicken fried steak with cream gravy. The seasonings on the food are just about right, but sometimes a little heavy on the pepper. All in all it's a good change and the servers are all pleasant and courteous. read more

I specifically ordered with a side of Mac and cheese. which they then informed me that they were ALSO out of Mac and cheese. poor experience. the girl running to our table let a cup of hot gravy fly off of the tray and splash all over me: hands, shirt, jeans and shoes. Accidents happen, right? the waitress and food runner did almost NOTHING to help and correct their mistake. flippant is the only word. then a manager came by and wanted to downplay what i had been through and said the food runner is autistic. really? how about a damp cloth to clean white gravy off of my clothes. i was still wiping white gravy off of my clothes and shoes as i got up to leave. these 3 should be taken completely out of public contact and learn some empathy and to stop what you are doing and correct your mistake. Lunch today, there was only a 5 minute wait. I orded Chicken Fried Steak, Turnip Greens and Pinto's. My wife ordered Baked Talapia, Mac-Cheese and Cucumber Salad. My order came and 5 minutes later her (incorrect) order of Teriyaki Chicken came so back it went. We eventually got her order but by that time mine was cold as well as her 2 sides that was left at the table. The rolls tasted great, the Chicken Fried Steak was mushy so I doubt it was homemade. I'll start with the positives - our waitress was friendly, and the place was clean with plenty of parking. That's where it ends. First of all, how can you claim to be the home of Southern homestyle meals and serve INSTANT POTATOES?? That was a deal breaker for me. I had the chicken fried steak, and would not recommend it. The steak was very dry. My wife enjoyed her salad, but it was really plain. Corn seemed like it had been stewing under a heat lamp for a really, long time. I have been going to Homer's West several times a week for years. I am sad to say I made my last visit this weekend. In the old building, the food was good and the service was great and friendly. The food is still good, but the service is not good at all. I will just detail my last two visits. Went for lunch with three friends a couple of weeks ago. I speak loud and clear, but when I got my order, part of it was wrong, so I told the server, and she sent someone else to ask me what I wanted. Turned out to be the manager. I told her what I ordered and then she came back with the wrong thing again. They only serve my favorite meal, breakfast on Saturday now. So, a friend and I went last week and got there at 10:10. The place was only half full and one entire section was closed off. Took more than five minutes to be acknowledged. We ordered and at 10:55 we still did not have our meal, so I left $6 on the table for two coffees and left. If this was just a one time thing, I could take it, but this is just not the same friendly, homey, wonderful place it was before they moved and "upgraded"! read more

The new location is really nice. Our server, Jesus, was very friendly and attentive. I had the pork chop which I really liked. My wife had the Patty Melt. If there was a zero star button I'd press it. Three of our dishes had to be remade because they were raw and everything came out one dish at a time, instead of all at once. My sides were brought out but they forgot my entree so I waited 20 minutes until everyone else at the table had finished before I got my food. Homers was not very apologetic about messing our orders up and they did not apologize or compensate us for the horrible service they gave. When you eat as a restaurant that is rated 3/5 on YELP you should expect problems! I've learned the hard way. I gave them a second chance. Had breakfast today, where I got raw bacon instead of the turkey sausage that I ordered and raw eggs that were ordered medium well. I attempted to speak to the owner who was nowhere to be found. Have been a fan for years and the new location looks great but last night my daughter (17) and I were treated so rudely I'm not sure we will ever be back. We decided to pop in to take out some food and have a drink while waiting and mistakingly sat at the empty bar, I understand she's under age. So we moved to an empty table near the food takeout door and waited to place our order. She then yelled over the bar we can't sit there and to stand over at the takeout area but I wanted a beer while we waited. OK so I ate at homers one time right before they closed and open the new place in the old Frankies cafeteria location that meal was excellent today I went to the new location and was extremely disappointed I ordered a vegetable plate and their vendors are awful the only good thing was the sweet tea which is perfect this is supposed to be a kitchen table and it might as will be another fast food joint with burgers and salads the selection was poor the vendors that they get their supplies from I do not want gravy from a can and that's what they serve. The venue itself is very nice they did a great job on the remodel. The staff did an excellent job taking her order and getting our food out to us. I do not like jiffy cornbread mix the cornbread that they served might as well been a piece of cake It was lunchtime and the place was full so hopefully they can resolve these issues and serve a nice blue plate lunch special like you expect from a homers family restaurant. I may give it one more try but it's not looking good. Stopped in for lunch to enjoy some Southern home cooking at Homer's Kitchen Table's new place. Server was gracious, brought our drinks immediately and took our orders. First, all I can say was that cornbread or yellow cake masquerading as cornbread??? I asked for rolls instead which were an improvement. The chicken fried steak was a round breaded "something" - not a beef round steak slice. Bland mashed potatoes with a white gravy (Honestly, breakfast fast food gravy is better.) Fried okra was crispy but probably from the same truck that supplies the local gas station kitchens. Cinnamon roll dessert was just sad. Really disappointing meal for my Little Rock visit. read more

Went to homer's tonight for Happy Hour. Ordered a SaltyDog, then ordered another Salty dog (both with well vodka). Have been ordering that drinkthere for happy hour over the last Eight years and paid happy hour price for hose drinks before 6pm over that whole time. After my second Salty Dog, the waitress told me the were not happy hour drinks. And over my objections they charged me full price at $6.50/drink. If it were happy hour priced, it would have been $3.00/ drink. Since they did not tell me in advance about them changing rules I had been following for years, I asked that they only charge me $3.00 this time and said I would not order salty dogs in the future. Homer's West is a good place to get a simple, tasty meal at a reasonable price. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Having eaten there about a dozen times, I've never had a bad meal there, but don't go in expecting a gourmet experience. That's not what this place is about. The food is filling and the service is good. I like just about everything on their menu except for the onion rings, which have little or no seasoning to them at all. (Imagine crispy brown flour and onion.) Apart from that, go enjoy. Their happy hour runs from 3-6pm, so it's a good place to go when eating a late lunch or getting off work early. read more
