Ahhhhhh... Homer's West. It was so long ago, and had I not been meeting a friend I may not have driven so far for your food. Homer's West is your average restaurant in Little Rock. It has a nice decor and a nice feel, but that is it. It's average. I would eat here again, but I wouldn't say I would seek it out as it's a drive from me. (I'm a big fan of a variety of foods, but the fact remains that Southern, Home Cooking, and American cuisine can be attained from locations closer to my end of town. So, that's what will happen.) The bar was legit, and they had some local brews on tap which is always a bonus. Anywho, don't let this review deter you too much from going. Just came from Homer's. Wont go back. Orders country fried steak, mashed potatoes, fried okra. The food came out and I immediately knew nothing was homemade. If I wanted to eat food out of a box I could have stayed home and ate a lot cheaper. Definitely not impressed. read more

Homer's West is a welcome addition to the WLR area (replaced the McAllister's that used to sit here off Rodney Parham). The food is decent enough and plentiful, the waitresses are sassy (but not rude), and the prices are reasonable. This Homer's even has a bar area for a tasty beverage after work. This one is also loud, but not nearly as loud as the one near the airport. Most lunch entrees are about 7 - 8 bucks. Go, see, eat! read more

Okay, Homer's is a decent sports bar/ diner with a full bar. Daily lunch specials are hit and miss. Catfish - is gross. Seriously, this is Arkansas, you're going to have to up your game and that game starts with cornmeal and black pepper and ends with not frying it till it's cookie consistency. Homer's either uses a really weird beer batter or buys prebattered fish from a bad supplier. Avoid. Chicken Dressing Thursday - boom. Just like momma makes. Except my momma never made it so finding someplace I can get it on the regular is awesome. Sides-Sides-Sides - I have a feeling these sides have been the same recipe for a long time and therefore some people would go insane if they changed them... like the mac N cheese which was not good. It was runny, it was possibly mostly powered cheese product and did not seem baked. So just hope for the best, things like green beans, etc. pretty much come out of a can so you know what to expect. Their fries are pretty plane Jane, Ben E. Keith medium cuts and hard to screw up too much. Hamburger is just a frozen patty type. It's decent if you get it there and they bring it to you hot, but for to-go, I would not do it. DEAL BREAKER So I've been to breakfast here 3 times. First time they'd just started and it was hit and miss. Second time was okay. Third time I left and went to Cracker Barrel. If you say you're serving breakfast from 7AM - 11AM, and I walk in and get seated at 10:45, you should serve me breakfast. Your waitress should not actively hide in the back until you have to get up twice to ask where she is and then tell you even though it's not really 11, breakfast has been over for awhile. That's when your paying customers down their bloody Mary's and head to Cracker Barrel. There is nothing on the breakfast menu that is crazy hard to make. The only thing that probably isn't in the kitchen ready to go or heat up is the "home fries" which I would pass on because they were gross the two times I had them. They should be pan fried, not fried in the fryer. But those could have been from the food distributor too. So the only reason I can think of is they were out of breakfast food (negative, the table next to us who got their breakfast about ten minutes after we arrived) or Saturday, boss isn't here, laziness. I am disappointed there is not a good place in midtown to get breakfast on the weekend that isn't local and made to order. Maybe that's what I need to do... read more

I've eaten here a few times. Nobody in my party really ever likes their entree. I had the catfish one time 6/10 and the sloppy joe last time 4/10. The fried pickles are good though, some of the best I've had in the city, and the jalapeño hubcaps were also tasty. So yeah, stick to the fried items and you should be ok. read more

An opening in an on-going pandemic environment has got to be tough, but too many things didn't meet expectations & I'll wait for reviews to reflect the needed tweaks. The fried chicken was well cooked but there was NO flavor beyond a flour-y taste. With Slim Chicken's & Jess' Chicken sharing this market, a mediocre product won't cut it. The mashed potatoes tasted like the water they were boiled in - again no seasoning; no salt, no butter, nada. Even with gravy which I don't eat, there was no flavor. The okra was passable, mostly crisp & well-browned but with the predominant flour taste. Most Southerners expect some corn meal in the coating. Again, absent any seasoning. The kitchen needs some guidance here! They ran out of food, no squash, got the last okra. Get the drift. They need serious help. It's a great location in an area that could use an establishment that isn't fast food, but a l.o.n.g way to go to make it for the long haul. Plz get someone in to help with some fast fixes. Every time me and my family visit, the food is always hot and delicious! We usually visit on Sunday's after church, and it's usually jammed packed with people. Regardless, the servers are always curious, and pleasant. Once we order the food comes fairly quick. Whether I'm eating Chicken fried chicken, catfish, or a fried bologna sandwich it is always tasty. I have eaten at the original location of Roosevelt many years ago and remember it to be pretty good. So, had hopes that their new location would deliver the same results. But, unfortunately they did not. Service was good and we got our food very quickly. Food quality is the issue with everything appearing to be just straight out of a can and bags of frozen items. Nothing you couldn't get at a half dozen other places that don't stand out. Only saving grace asides the service was the fried pickles. Possibly the best we have ever eaten. My family and I had a wonderful Saturday morning breakfast at Homer's. It's kind of a perfect breakfast spot, actually. They have classic breakfast dishes (omelets, pancakes, breakfast sandwiches, etc.) with a southern flair + inexpensive prices. The restaurant is large with plenty of seating, including a covered outdoor seating area. Despite it being August in Arkansas, we were able to sit outside on an unusually low humidity day. This was perfect for our baby, as he loves being outside, as well as loves watching the traffic go by. Our waitress was also very sweet and efficient. I really would put this at 3.5 stars for breakfast. We usually eat here for lunch and it is a great place for home cooking, which I love. Breakfast is also a favorite for the weekends because we can just relax and talk without having to rush. It was a good thing that we weren't in too much of a hurry, because the initial service was a little bit slow. They weren't terribly busy, but it did take a few minutes for a waitress to greet us and take our drink order. On the plus side, she was very nice and promptly got our drinks. I ordered coffee, and she did ask if I wanted cream. I don't use cream and said no. However, I do like sugar in my coffee. When she returned with my coffee, she didn't bring a spoon. She dropped it off so quickly that I didn't have an opportunity to ask her for one. The silverware packets that she had brought previously don't contain spoons just a knife and fork. I had to flag her down to get a spoon so that I could star sugar into my coffee. The serving sizes are very generous. The breakfast was a little bit bland though. I ordered the ham and while it was a very large piece, it tasted "watery" and just didn't much flavor. I was pretty disappointed on the ham. The biscuits and gravy were great! At least 4 stars on that. I like my gravy to be a bit more peppery, but overall it was good. The biscuits were a good size, fluffy, and had a really good flavor! Five stars on that one! My husband ordered hashbrowns and asked that they be cooked extra crispy. He even told our waitress to be sure they were done on both sides, more like McDonald's hashbrowns. Unfortunately, they came out just barely brown and really kind of mushy. Again, really good portion sizes just not what we asked for. The coffee had a good flavor and was hot and fresh. I did have to ask for refills a couple of times so that could be better, but overall it was a good place for a cup of coffee. The atmosphere was really good if you're just wanting a home-cooked breakfast in a relaxed atmosphere. Next time I will probably try the pancakes or something different! read more

This was my first time eating here. My friend and I didn't have to wait very long (about 5-10 mins.). The food tasted good, the service was great. My only complaint is that I should have ordered the Large Catch instead of the Small Catch, because I only got two small pieces of Fish. Otherwise, I would have given a higher rating. I ordered my food through bite squad for delivery. i ordered fish, fried okra and onion rings. I received fish, onion rings and mashed potatoes. No okra. When i called to resolve the issue, I was placed on hold and whomever answered the phone, took my name and number and told me the manager would get back to me. I never got a phone call back regarding my incorrect order. I think that it's very inconvenient to tell someone who paid money for an order and it's wrong that the manager will get back with them. I was at work and my food was incorrect. I couldn't leave work that was the point of me ordering through bite squad. Not to mention, my onion rings tasted like they had sat for a while and the mashed potatoes were cold. This was my first and LAST time spending my food on Homer's West. Do not recommend. read more

Not Southern and not homecooking. Mashed potatoes are cooked in a pot of simmering water and mashed with butter and milk or cream, not taken from a bag or box. I had a vegetable plate so can't vouch for meat, fish, or sandwiches. Purple hull peas were obviously from a big can like the ones used in school cafeterias years ago. I did not like the cornbread but I realize there are lots of opinions on good cornbread. The yeast rolls are divine! So was the baked apple--almost as good as apple pie! Many younger people have probably never had real mashed potatoes so their idea of homecooking and mine are poles apart. I come from a long line of wonderful cooks--everything "built from the stump up," as a friend was fond of saying. No cake mixes, no frozen pie crusts or pudding mixes, no canned vegetables (other than home canned ones) and definitely no fake mashed potatoes, God forbid! Server gave the impression of wishing she were someone where else but you never know when someone is having a bad day so that did not affect the tip nor my decision to never return. The mediocre food (nothing like the original Homer's years ago--don't know about now) is the sole reason I won't be going back. There are 3 home cooking restaurants within the radius of a few miles that I frequently visit so I will continue to go there. read more

I am not quite sure anything is actually homemade. The mac and cheese looked a bit like a box food and the slaw I think might have been out of a bag with bottled dressing on it. The cornbread was good and my fried catfish was okay. However, I can dig things out of a frozen bag and prepare myself. I like my food from a restaurant to be prepared homemade and not from a bag or bottle. I would be interested to know which of their items are actually hand-battered and are fresh and not frozen.
