My neighbors had the burger and French toast which were also fantastic. Love that they sell fresh donuts made daily, and don't forget to check-in because you will get a free donut, compliments of Yelp. Hubby had a day off from his graveyard shift on Friday so that meant we were able to go grab breakfast Saturday morning! I was looking around to see where we could go that we haven't been to before and I saw Homeskillet, so I thought we would go give it a try! Upon arriving there was a bit of a wait, so we went up to write our names down for the waitlist. I believe we probably waited about 15ish minutes before we were called in. The restaurant is not super small, but it's decent. Everybody was kind of squeezed in together but there were plexiglasses in between. We ordered a freshly squeezed OJ, Thai Tea, a Haus Benedict, Ultimate SPA Hotcakes, and I believe a side of hash brown and fruits. Everything was AMAZING! He sends the info for this place and I was kinda giddy, as this place wasn't a big chain nor had I been before. 2 key points for excited anticipation for any OG yelp hound. Everything started off fine, no lines, happenin' spot on heavy foot traffic'd Park St and decent cup of coffee. Struggled a bit with the menu as nothing was really grabbing me, but picked a couple of things to try. Bird's Nest ($15/2*) Ground Beef scrambled with hashbrowns, onions and cheddar cheese. Then topped with 2 eggs of your choice and sour cream. I'm usually a fan of a classic diner plate called the Joe's Special. Similar ingredients as this but the Joe's the eggs are scrambled in. Here the eggs are separate. I like many simple preps but damn, this was too simple. Nothing was seasoned and everything just looked amateurish at best. Kinda like when a friend who doesn't really know how to cook, makes me something. Always a lot of improvement to be had, yet I'll always eat most of it as being a nice dude is a curse I can't undo. I had to salt and pepper this mofo, then add some hot sauce too...twice. And it came out barely lukewarm, so within a minute or so, it was cold, well cold for a breakfast plate fasho. The berries were just sliced fresh strawberries, not sugared or sauced. Also topped with some chopped walnuts. This also didn't arrive too warm. And for $14 for 2 pancakes, which were basic at best, again made me side-eye the value. I think we've established a pattern here. Super meh execution, food not hot on arrival, above average pricing. We ordered the the hashtag and the haus Benedict. The food was okay and nothing particularly special. I also checked in to get a free donut - and since we were 3 people we got an extra donut. The donuts were also just okay. My 2 favorite things about this place are the affordable prices and the amazing service. Seriously the staff here are very nice, kind, and attentive. I had been holding out from writing a Yelp review on Homeskillet because prior to today, I had only come here for the donuts. So I guess this is two reviews in one. Let's start with the donuts. Homeskillet donuts: everybody has their preference on flavors of donuts. To me, all donuts are pretty good. I've tried their glazed, chocolate, chocolate old fashioned, strawberry, blueberry, and crumb donuts. All were excellent but I think I like the crumb donut the best. Donuts at Homeskillet is five stars. Chorizo omelette: this was a very cheesy, chorizo, onion filled omelette. It came with hasbrowns and one piece of toast. It was a industry standard good breakfast item. Banana and chocolate pancakes: this was my wife's idea. For those with a sweet tooth, it's a great combination of flavors. The cinnamon, powdered sugar, bananas, chocolate chips, and chocolate syrup made for a (as you can imagine) really rich breakfast item. Eggs plate: this is simple eggs, toast, and hash browns. Simple meal. The waitress and staff were friendly but a little neglectful. I had to get up a few times for a ketchup and also the bill. They kept telling me to go back and sit down but if their service was more attentive, I wouldn't get up. Overall a solid breakfast spot and definitely a good place for donuts. read more

First and last dining experience. The food was good but like another Yelper mentioned, you need to be vigilant with what add-ons/substitutions you make because there WILL be an additional charge without them telling you. The waitress (shoulder-length hair) was rushing to take our order shortly after we were seated so I ordered a chorizo scramble ($13.95) and my partner ordered the brunch-urrito ($12.95). For the brunch-urrito , she asks him verbatim "would you like bacon, sausage, chorizo, or all 3?" As a meat lover, my partner of course says "all 3" assuming it's part of the set menu price (he's thinking you just get a mix of 3 meats, not necessarily an extra scoop of each meat). We enjoyed our meals and he even said he would come back just for the burrito. We paid at the register since we wanted to grab 2 donuts to-go. My partner paid and then we left. We grabbed coffee next door and he tells me "I think they overcharged me." He shows me the texted receipt and nothing is itemized. We did some quick math in our head and our meal + donuts + tax shouldn't have cost more than ~$35 before tip. My partner walks back to Homeskillet to get some clarification and that's when they tell him "It's because you ordered all 3 meats. Each meat is an additional $4." We were honestly BAFFLED because 1) nowhere on the menu does it say it'll cost extra for "additional" meats and 2) the waitress just nonchalantly offered the option of having all 3 meats without feeling the need to say "for an extra charge" In hindsight, could we have asked the waitress if there would be an additional cost to have all 3 meats? Of course. But would it have been nice if the waitress took the extra 2 seconds to say it would cost an extra $8-9? Absolutely. And all the lady at the register said was a simple "sorry." It just left a bad taste in our mouths. I would say we are very simple and understanding patrons and rarely complain even when mistakes happen. But I'm not sure if I can stand behind a restaurant that deliberately omits extra charges (both written and verbally) and gives the customer a bill that's not itemized (they can literally enter whatever miscellaneous price they want next to "1 x Homeskillet"). What started off as a nice meal, unfortunately, turned into us no longer returning to this establishment. read more

We came here for brunch because it was relatively close to Oakland Airport. Our friend picked us up and we drove to Alameda. I have read that it can get crowded on weekends. We got there around 9:30am and was seated right away. It was definitely pretty small. We got lucky and got street parking right in front. The food was ok, not amazing. Honestly it was nothing special. Service was good, staff was friendly. They kept asking my friend if he wanted refills on his coffee. Considering the name of the place I thought there should be more skillet dishes. All three of us got savory dishes so we can't say much about the sweet dishes. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO FLAVOR PROFILE TO ANYTHING! The hotcakes get real dry real fast, it's depressing honestly that someone can ruin something as simple as a pancake. The service was below subpar and, my table was not checked on with the exception of someone walking by and asking REAL FAST, "How is everything" before I could answer and state to them that everything was horrible the lady hurried away.
