If I could, I would give this place 0 stars. Although the food was great and delicious and the service from the hostess and the busboy was good, the waiter would not check on our drink refills and we had to keep asking for more water and soft drinks, though he was still kind at times. On the other hand, the manager Samantha who claims she is the only manager in charge said there is no way to contact the owner and was very rude from the moment we arrived. I had made a reservation 3 weeks in advance and spoke to a very nice girl who I wish I had gotten the name of. Today, on 5/9/26 two of our guests also arrived early with us. We had an elderly citizen, grandma, who couldn't get up on the high top chair, which they had arranged only high tables and high top chairs for our party. The chairs were also small and unsafe for an elderly person. We also had a guest who has a medical condition and cannot sit on high top chairs as her feet need to be touching the ground. When I made the reservation, they didn't ask if we needed any accommodations and they didn't mention we would be seated at high top tables and chairs. I had never been there my self so was not aware of that. Our two guests with the medical condition and elderly had said they could sit at a small table that was next to our area even though they wouldn't be seated directly at our tables. The manager Samantha was very rude saying we were taking up all of their space and that they had already set up an area for us, but that was not accommodating to our guests. Samantha had a very rude tone and constantly belittling our needs and reservation. She was also complaining that we had a baby, which I had called about 1.5 weeks before and they said it would not be an issue. Once she realized they had not set up enough seats for our entire party and it was not accommodating to all guests, she decided to just give us the small table. Originally, they had told me that they could take as big as a 25 person party, but she was very rude and we only had 16 people. I get that she stated she did not know, but as a past GM I never treated my customers with such a nasty tone or telling them they are taking up the whole space. I also think that she should have called me to confirm the reservation and ask if we needed any accommodations since she is the one in charge as she had stated. We did not ask for free food we paid and we had a big group. We will never be back because of the horrible treatment we were given. We were celebrating my daughter's college graduation and just wanted to have a positive and exciting lunch with our family and friends. I contacted the restaurant once I got home and she gave me such a nasty attitude once again, over the phone and kept cutting me off throughout the whole conversation. If you are thinking about going there for a big party, think twice before celebrating there. read more

I went here for lunch with a friend on a Friday. The place was pretty much empty at 12:30. By 1:30 about half of the tables were filled. Went here for the gluten free options. Had the calamari, Caesar salad without the breadcrumbs and a gluten free pizza. The calamari was the best thing. It was actually really good. The Caesar salad must have been a bagged salad and about 30-40% of it was brown. The gluten free pizza tasted good but was soft on the bottom and crispy around the edges. We sent the pizza back to make it crunchier on the bottom and that didn't work. I was hoping that this was a great find for a yummy gluten free pizza (which is very hard to find) but unfortunately I'll have to stick with a few of my other favorites vs going back to Home slice. Terrible experience. Started quick and efficient. Only to realize after ordering we got the bill dropped off immediately as if trying to push us out as quickly as possible. Then we got scolded by who we thought was an employee or manager, which turned out to be an owner, for giving away our extra chairs to another table that grew in size looking for extra chairs. Then the same gentlemen comes up to us notifying us that tables typically sit for an hour and half and trying to get us to leave when we wanted to order another drink. Came at my wife and I super rude and aggressive which, coming from the owner of the establishment was appalling in and of itself. Clearly that's how he treats his patrons and we will not be coming back. Our server then ignored us for the rest of our stay even as we tried to settle up our tab, so I had to flag down another server to close us up. Considering all the negative reviews about the same problem means business might not be doing so well if he intends on kicking out smaller parties because there is an invisible time limit and he needs to have open tables for the non existent line of people waiting for our particular table. We had the Maximus & Plato pizzas. The pizzas were pretty good, I especially enjoyed the Maximus. Sometimes pizzas with multiple types of meats tend to be too salty, but the balance in this one was just right. If anything the Plato (the one with arugula & prosciutto) was a bit too salty for my taste. I saw a couple of other pictures on here where the crust:topping ratio was ridiculously mismatched, but it seems they have fixed their issue. $22 for an individual pizza and not even a very big one is egregious even in this day & age. Fortunately they were not bad, however. The atmosphere is pretty casual and nice, but it's mostly outdoor seating. Would be nice to have ice cold water but water was approaching room temperature. This has been on our list to try but I can't say we would return. They were empty at 4:15pm on Monday, which was a holiday so we were able to walk right in. They are much smaller than we expected. They have only high tables inside and regular tables outside. Given that we had two toddlers we were limited and had to take the outside tables. Thankfully they at least had a heater but the wind was chilly. No high chairs available which is unfortunate and surprising. The salad with blood orange and fennel sounded better than it was. The dressing was nonexistent and it was missing balance. No acidity, no pepper, and probably no salt. Kind of tasted just like wet leaves placed on a plate with some hazelnuts and blood orange slices thrown on top. We ordered two pizzas - the margarita and the garden. The Margarita was the clear winner but it was quite soggy. The dough was chewy and had a nice rise to it. The gardener was weird with the butternut and onion and white pie. I would have expected more heirloom tomatoes than it had. But this was the odd part - they must of emptied their entire pepper bottle on the pizza - it was overpowered by pepper. They should have saved the pepper for their salad than pour it all over the pizza. You couldn't eat a slice without pepper in your face and taste buds. N had ordered a side of the gnocchimis. He asked the server about them and she couldn't even tell us much about them. She didn't know if they were airfried or fried in oil. Still, we thought we would try them and asked for them to be added as a side. I wouldn't call them crispy but rather quite dry. They were nothing special and it was frustrating to get the bill and see instead of them being added as a side for $8 we were charged for the full order $16. read more

My only gripe was last time my pizza was really skimpy on the portions but I think it's to compensate for the super thin crust that holds up but probably wouldn't with added weight. Definitely needs more of a pineapple flavor or cilantro layered on top. Flavors were flat. Grilled artichokes were also flat basically esteemed artichoke with some burnt edges. The aïoli is too vinegary. Nothing to write home about. Would love to come back and try more on the menu, but they need to update game a little on complexity and presentation. read more

Okay listen -- To Go orders are fine if you feel comfortable letting yourself into this business and finding an employee to help you. There's going to be a group of them sitting at the bar all talking to each other. They're going to give you dirty looks for being there. If you get the gnocchi and eat it across the street looking at the ocean it makes the miserable atmosphere almost worth it. Truly I have never encountered such mediocre service. I have been here more than once and it's the same experience every time. To the manager who sits on her laptop and mishandles her employees I would really recommend adjusting your efforts and tending to the patrons who are trying to support a business who seems like it wants to close in the next six months. However I had my head turned watching my 6 month old son and when the server placed a hot cast iron Mac and cheese in front of me she did not mention anything about it being straight out of the oven. This is a great brewery / pizza style restaurant right downtown in Dana Point off PCH . We stopped in after visiting the marketplace they had going on last weekend. Our wonderful server was Owen . He was so helpful and so prompt and never made us wait even while he was busy helping his other tables , Owen was very personable and is an asset to this restaurant as I can see us coming back for dinner one evening . We only had an afternoon drink but we will be back . Thank you to Owen and the really nice lady that was welcoming us into the restaurant that Saturday she was very sweet as well. The beer wasn't bad either lol . This is a great location where you can come down and eat and people watch as the cars and people go by as you smell the wonderful ocean breeze. I even ordered a pizza that had garlic and I tasted no garlic. My friend ordered a pesto sandwich and there was no pesto on it. After a long day of activity, we picked up dinner to go from Homeslice on the way home. First time and it was delicious! We got the spaghetti and meatballs (sauce is a tad spicy), penne with pancetta, the burrata and arugula salad and the broccolini. The flavors in the two pastas were outstanding. The broccolini is described as charred, it was not and was a little undercooked. The salad was a good mix of fresh and yummy burrata. Would definitely recommend this place. Prices were also very reasonable compared to others in the area for the quality. I should also add that when picking up, I was really wishing I could eat at the bar with a glass of wine. Quite a few new restaurants in the lantern district. Seems to be a competition amongst pizza restaurants. We opted to visit Homeslice since there wasn't any wait which we appreciated. Ironically, I recognized the gentleman who walked in and realized he is also the owner of The Schwack so that's pretty cool. Cool beachy vibes beautiful interior and bar area. We opted for a salad and a pizza as well as a couple soft drinks and a beer. Service was friendly and efficient. The size of the pizza is maybe considered a large personal pizza. a hungry individual could probably devour it but also easy to share for two. The salad was also ample to share. We enjoyed all of the flavor combinations. We would definitely return again and it looks like they dog friendly so we would definitely bring our dog back. Street parking all around. read more

I am a big fan of Homeslice. It is a small footprint, cute little corner restaurant in the Dana Point area off PCH near a number of other tasty dining options. It's got the capacity to handle larger family groups, as well as date nights and solo diners. A large number of the tables are high tops so be prepared for that as an option. They also have a cute little fire pit area where you can get food and drink as well. My boyfriend and I like to sit at the bar and often wind up ordering food to also take home to starving teenagers. Half our family is gluten-free and the Homeslice gluten-free pizza crust tastes exactly like real pizza dough, makes everyone happy! Prices are appropriate for the area so you're paying in the mid to high teens for drinks and in the 20s for pizza and then the mid to high teens for most other share and side items. The restaurant has a casual and slightly busy, but not too busy feel to it, service is pleasant and the kitchen is quick. We will definitely continue coming to the spot for lunches and dinners in this area. read more

Thank you, Mark! With the help of your recommendations, I enjoyed dinner here in Dana Point on an impromptu visit a few weeks ago. Parking is always a concern in these beach cities, but we found street parking accessible. The main entrance hostess stand is clearly visible from the street and welcoming. The restaurant has a bright indoor dining space and even a patio that partially spills out to enjoy the perfect cool evening sunset. Despite the crowd, we conveniently found seating at the bar counter for our dinner. Sitting down, I am Immediately greeted by the Chef, Mark. Extremely knowledgeable and so personable. After exchanging a brief conversation and introducing the menu selections to me, I followed Mark's recommendations with my pasta dish. Immediately impressed seeing it served on a sizzling cast iron skillet. Perfectly portioned! So delicious! The pasta dish reminds me of ones I'd enjoyed in Rome, Italy ages ago. It's difficult to find pasta as decadent as the ones I've tried from traveling to Italy, hence why I am so impressed! We enjoyed everything we selected. Definitely a new family favorite for this area and I'm looking forward to trying more from their menu. We love home-slice as a local spot- they are so welcoming, the food is amazing and cocktails are unique and delicious! We have had Trey several times and he's such a great server so attentive and give great recs. We have a 9 month old and they make eating out so easy with how lovely the staff is and the owner being a father himself. My husband and I LOVE pizza and travel all over to try new pies and this is one of our absolute favorites. It so thin and crispy with so many great flavor profiles to choose from - if you don't add hot honey on all of them you're wrong! The owner & Chef, Mark is amazing - always come out to talk to us and tell us about any new dishes. We came here to celebrate my birthday and had heard great things about Home Slice, so we were excited to finally try it. We chose to sit at the bar, which we usually love, but unfortunately, the experience left a lot to be desired. From the start, the bartender, Isaiah, seemed irritated and somewhat passive-aggressive. We had a few questions about the cocktail menu and were met with blank stares that made us feel uncomfortable and honestly a bit embarrassed for even asking. We ordered two cocktails and two starters. The Parmesan tacos were actually delicious, but the chicken wings were bland and came with a very small amount of dipping sauce. When we politely asked for more sauce, we were brought half of what we originally received, and then charged for it. That felt really petty. The main disappointment was the mushroom pizza. It was extremely dry, so much so that I genuinely wondered if they had forgotten to add sauce. When I brought it up, Isaiah seemed confused as to why that was an issue and explained that they only use a very small amount of sauce that bakes out during cooking, and that there's no cheese on it by design. That's fine if it's intentional, but the end result was just unpleasant and flavorless. By that point, it was clear we weren't enjoying ourselves, and it felt like we were more of a bother than welcomed guests. Sadly, it really put a damper on what was supposed to be a special birthday dinner. We won't be returning. read more
