I went to this place for the second time for lunch as it was recommended by others saying that the brisket tacos are the best. They were not lying, both times I have came to this place I have ordered the brisket tacos. The first time I ordered two brisket tacos, one with the flour tortilla and the second with the corn tortilla, both tasted good, they come with guacamole and cabbage and lots of shredded brisket. I also ordered the pinto beans with cheese. The second time I ordered three flour brisket, tacos, and I told them I wanted that with beans, I didn't specify the type of beans so I got stuck with the black beans with cheese. The first time I was able to pay cash and of course I left a tip since I was eating there and Happy that the place is open, most places are closed due to the Fires or the high winds tore off or damaged the roof. The second time I had to use my credit card and the only option is to leave a tip either 15% or 18% or 20%, so I chose 20%, when I paid with cash I actually left them a 25% tip, but the register that allowed to accept cash was being serviced. Anyway be prepared to use your credit card and leave a tip. Also when you order something make sure you are exact or someone else might decide to choose your options for you. This place has really great food and the staff is very friendly and nice and dressed professional. This place has mixed drinks. This place has indoor seating and outside seating with shade canopy, They also have their own parking lot and they have two parking stalls for handicap, so they more than likely share their parking with the business next door cause that parking lot has no handicap spaces. The parking is limited and both times I parked on the street around the corner. It is marked two hour parking limit. I highly recommend eating at this place. read more

Have to say, for $5 each they were comparable to the dollar tacos from the old school taco trucks before they became a bougie thing. They seemed mostly filler and teeny tiny. The stand out was the Migas! Basically a zhuzhed up version of chilaquiles. I would definitely come back for these. We had the Lonestar with shredded brisket for $12. The Pasadena location of Home State is located on the site of the now-gone "Lincoln" and it retains much of the vibe although the menu is completely different, concentrating on Mexican food(s). This review is for the tacos only, which are really creative and would be amazing if THEY DIDN'T ARRIVE COLD, wtf??? The fillings are generous, the tortillas are perfect, but the fillings are COLD, making them a real disappointment. They don't appear to be made to order either, another downer. If they were to correct this issue the tacos would be really, really good, but for now... They have a wide range of margaritas and a couple of beer choices, but the wines are weird and pretty mediocre; they should revisit this as well. Inside there are individual and communal tables and it can get a little boomy and loud; the patio has a nice vibe so I'd opt for that if the weather's cooperating. Today, I ordered my usual which is the Don't Mess with Texas and added eggs, but it usually just comes with bacon, refried beans, potatoes, and cheese, and their homemade salsas are sooo delicious. When I have tacos, I usually prefer corn but they have homemade flour tortillas that are so good so I always choose that option. I was finally able to try HomeState after it's been on my list for the last couple of years. I came with a friend on a Sunday for lunch. I was very surprised to see a short line; usually when passing by this location on the weekend there's always a long line out the door and into the parking lot. Since it was our first time, it took us a while to browse through their menu. We ended up ordering tacos (Guadalupe - breakfast chorizo; Fort Worth - spicy chicken; Tijuana Panther - brisket + queso; Potato; and Chicken) and Loaded Queso with Brisket. Their tacos come with your choice of a corn tortilla or their homemade flour tortilla - we opted The tacos I ordered (potato & chicken) were good. The chicken was really good and didn't need any salsa added. The potato taco was a little more on the bland side. We shared the loaded queso dip, which also comes with chips, and it was super delicious! You definitely need to mix the cup since we realized that all the brisket was on the very bottom of the cup. Service here was good. Cashier service was average. You order and pay at the counter, grab your number and find a place to sit. You get your napkins, water cups, utensils, and salsa bottles yourself. A worker will bring you your food order, and from there the service was wonderful. The lady who checked on the guests kept coming around to check if we needed any water refills or anything. She even asked us if we wanted more chips for our dip! There's plenty of seating outside and some tables inside to enjoy your food. The bottled sauces aren't anything special and I found that it didn't add extra heat to my tacos or really add any extra flavor. The tacos are great on it's own. As for parking, there's a small parking lot in the front and additional parking can be found on the streets. I'll definitely be back here in the future. Given the high reviews, I expected more but was disappointed. Order at the kiosk, get a number, sit inside or outside and the food will come to you. Portions are small and the guacamole tasted store bought and was not freshly made. Tacos are rolled into a small roll and ok only. The meat in the birria quesadillas were good just super cheesy if that's your thing. Vibe is community indoor/outdoor cantina. This place is awesome! I've been to this location as well as the Hollywood location. The inside is very airy with high ceilings and you can see right into the open kitchen. The staff is always friendly and there is plenty of seating both inside and outside. Their tacos are amazing! The brisket is seasoned very well and it always tender. They give you a good amount of it as well- 2 tacos get me full and I can definitely eat if you know what I mean. The hibiscus limeade is delicious as well. They bring the food to your table along with a salsa verde and roja which are both delicious. Highly recommended! My partner & I have been going here since this place first opened. It used to be great but it has gone way downhill. They have lost a lot of the employees that made this place great. Families treat it like a playground & let their kids run around everywhere. It used to be such a cozy spot to hangout. The food is great but the environment is lacking. With rats in the patio & a particular employee that treats you passive aggressively when your child doesn't give her attention, I'd rather take my food to go. Open and airy with staff friendly and attentive. Ordered a variety of tacos - the neche, comal and blanco. Also ordered a side of tortilla chips because they looked good. Food came out after a few minutes and took it to go. Really enjoyed the comal and blanco...each packed with flavors. Great for breakfast tacos. The Neche was good and beans great but a bit heavy on the beans but it was good nonetheless. Tortillas were also amazing..homemade and so tasty...Oh and the chips! Well made...crispy not oily...well worth it. Have been to different HomeStates through the years (including this one) and they have always been good and consistent, but today was different. We ordered pickup because we are in a hurry to get somewhere. I arrived and they were busy with a line out the door - and I was relieved I had ordered ahead. I walked to the pick up counter and there were 5/6 people standing in a circle with nobody at the counter - turns out they had been waiting there for a while waiting for someone to acknowledge them and were late to get back to work. I could see my order sitting on the counter. Then another woman came in behind me - she could see her order as well. We all stood there while multiple employees walked past us, until I eventually had enough and flagged someone down. He asked the first girls name, handed her her order, and then walked away again... like sir her whole group has orders? I saw him deliver a couple trays to people eating at tables. Another employee walked past and I said "excuse me I think the all have separate orders" - he looked at me and walked away... like huh? Haha By the time I got my order it was drenched and soggy - worse than when I order delivery. I totally get being busy but felt like the team needed to improve customer communication and just general respect of acknowledging a group forming, as well as orchestration and knowing when to help people standing in front of you versus running to tables etc. I dunno - left kinda a bad taste in my mouth. The parking lot is small, there's another adjacent lot to the right, and if all else fails, there's street parking.
