First time visit, and my meal was just as tasty as I remember tex mex food from San Antonio. Loved the CHICANO BATMAN and fresh coffee. Very clean and relaxing atmosphere. I really enjoyed the breakfast tacos the best and I'm kinda sad that I only got 1 taco. I got the trinity and it was delicious. Good amount of egg, bacon and potato. We also got the brisket and chicken tacos. The brisket was very tender and I would rate it 3.5/5. As for the chicken, one bite and I did not love the flavor or texture, i rate it 1.5/5 sadly.The sauce they gave, the green and red makes the tacos even more yummy and put together. I also enjoyed the guacamole and chips. Only thing I feel it's alot of tomatoes, besides that is delicious. The place is a nice casual, hipster place. Homestate is a nice tex-mex restaurant now with several locations. They have grown a bit over the last several years and that is well deserved. This Pasadena / Altadena location has a nice, but small, outdoor seating area and a small, somewhat cramped and difficult to maneuver parking lot. The food as always is great, with a mixture of breakfast and standard tacos. My personal favorites are the Lonestar Miga (eggs cheese and brisket) as well as the Emos taco (vegetarian black bean - but don't sleep on it, as a carnivore I still find this one of their best). This location recently catered our daughter's sixth birthday party and it was very popular. You can't go wrong with Homestate. The team has done a great job and deserve all of their success. A couple of very cute moments occurred this weekend over at Homestate, Pasadena. I just purchased a condo, so now it's Kristina's turn and she's home shopping out there on the east side of town. And having girl-fun is always a good idea, lol. First, Kristina bit Into her breakfast burrito and said it's so good, it's obscene. See photo reference attached. Two, she decided to have eggs and be a "cheating vegan." I mean, so much to love here in this one human, in this one paragraph. The service was beyond excellent, we sat down were offered water and any amenities we needed. Very thoughtful, thank you. And there is parking! I Iove that! I mean Bc besides yr home, yr car is yr next most expensive asset. The decor and small details are always a delight. Little toys abound, and vintage art always steals my heart. And I always stick to my tried and true emo's vegan tacos. I just add some hot sauce to it, and I'm good to go. I think next, I'm going to check out the playa vista location. Tex-Amex feel 100%! We ordered a couple breakfast tacos, and they were pretty good. However, we felt that each taco didn't have enough seasoning. But adding their salsa (red and green) was really tasty! The guac and the queen were both good. This place is nice to grab a quick bite, sit and chat with friends, and enjoy your meal. You order and pay, then you sit. So you don't have servers bugging you every so often. Personally I love breakfast, so having a spot where I can grab an egg, and bacon taco is awesome! It tasted good, but was not what I was expecting or hoping for. Trinity Taco in a Flour Tortilla This was surprisingly really good and would have been down getting two of these instead of the potato taco. Arnold Palmer First round had more ice tea than lemonade, but my to-go version was definitely the right amount of lemonade to ice tea :) Experience: My friends and I decided to have brunch at this place before going to a nearby thrift store. They had a small basket filled with umbrellas outside for their patrons to use if they were waiting out in the sun for seating to be available. But it wasn't that busy when we came Friday morning. The place is so adorable inside and the cashier helping us was very friendly and highly suggested we get the tacos in their flour tortillas, which definitely made the tacos tasty. We had multiple staff checking in on us and getting us refills and making sure we were doing well in our little corner of the restaurant. Usually, if staff is too friendly and do a lot of table checks it makes me fee uncomfortable because I am not use to it in all restaurants that we go to. But definitely a plus for service since they really care about their customers and even asked if we wanted to take our last drink refills to go. I've been to the original location in Hollywood, and this one in Pasadena tastes just as good. On a Saturday at 10am, there was plenty of free street parking and space in their small parking lot. Breakfast is served all day. The restaurant is small, but feels spacious due to the open concept kitchen. Bar seating, tables for 2-4, and communal tables are available. Outside the dining hall, there is patio seating with some shade. The wooden furniture, bright natural light, and wall art give off a warm feel. Homestate is known for its housemade flour tortillas, but I also tried the regular corn. The flour was superior in my opinion, especially when warm. The tortilla was pillowy soft, with some chew and good flavor. The corn tortilla was also soft, but lacking in corn flavor. - Pecos taco ($5). Delicious! Tender shredded brisket and juicy scrambled egg. It tasted even better with the red and green sauces. - Brazos ($3.50). Taste was okay. There was more stuff in this taco than I expected, including sliced potatoes; I think mashed would have been better. The synergy between the rest of the toppings (cheese, guacamole, lettuce, jalapeno and pico de gallo) was inexplicably lacking. - Loaded Queso ($10). Filled with the works: a core of tomatoes, ground beef or beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, and sour cream surrounded by creamy cheese. It seems like too much in one cheese dip, but it somehow works. Though the consistency is thin, the dip is flavorful. The queso looks atrocious if you mix it all up, so try to scoop everything in one bite. read more

I've been wanting to try this place out for a while! They have outdoor and indoor seating. You order inside before getting a table. We sat at the bar area In front of where they make the tortillas and food! It's awesome to see how they make fresh tortillas for the tacos. We ordered some breakfast tacos and some regular tacos, chips and guac! The guacamole was delicious! Tasted so fresh and yummy! The tacos were nothing spectacular and neither were their salsas. We ordered various types of tacos and some chips with guacamole and queso. We really enjoyed the queso and guacamole. The tacos are good but not the best ever. I know it is Tex-Mex, so it's best to not compare them to Mexican tacos. The salsa they provide is not spicy, so you don't have to be afraid to put salsa on your tacos. The toast was thinner than what I'd expect as Texas toast would be. I liked that they grilled one side of the toast and faced the crispy side in and left the soft side out. The red and green salsas that come are perfect as I can't really handle heat and they add a nice pack of flavor. We tried the Brisket tacos today which were mid. Nothing exciting. The potato taco though was absolutely excellent. The dark chocolate salted cookie is definitely a must get. It is sweet but the salt adds a nice extra touch that brings the flavors together nicely. They have frozen Paloma and Margarita which are AMAZING! My favorite thing about this place has to be the ambiance though. Once we finally had the chance to eat them, my partner and friend quickly changed their mind! The quality of the ingredients were so fresh, tasty, and seasoned well...and that housemade flour tortilla was just the delicious cherry on top! My friend regretted only ordering 2 tacos for himself! While I enjoyed all the tacos, my favorite (and most memorable) were the Blanco and Pecos! it's about time i wrote about HomeState's breakfast tacos. first off, my first encounter with HomeState was a to-go order from the LA location near Barnsdall Art Park. although i don't recall what my friend and i got.. i remember scarfing down my two tacos, some chips + queso, and half of my friend's Migas order (sorry Nat..) in record time. ya girl was HUNGRY. FAST FORWARD to 2024 and i stopped by the Pasadena location. if you're not getting corn tortillas.. what are you doing?! comal (eggs, black beans, and monterey jack) and neches (eggs, refried charro beans, and cheddar) were the standout tacos and pecos (shredded brisket + scrambled eggs) was underwhelming due to the dryness of the brisket. i enjoy HomeState a lot since it puts a SoCal twist on Texas breakfast tacos. no pics THIS TIME because i demolished everything in my car before driving home hahah read more
