Delicious Breakfast. Fantastic service. Lovely old building with tons of character. It's the perfect brunch. I love that they have a good amount of both Savory and Sweet options. A lot of brunch places lean towards one and just have a few dishes for the other. The Homesteader not only gives you several choices on the menu, but also has specials on the menu boards as well! If you enjoy a mimosas with your meal, they have single glasses, flights and of carafes for sharing! And you have bubbly choices to meet your preferred price point. We enjoyed it immensely. Carafes tend to serve around 4-6 people depending on portions pour, but you get to manage that yourself. I ended up with the Farmer's Breakfast. You pick 4 from a selection of Mains, Sides and Breads. I got Eggs, Bacon, Roasted Red Potatoes and a slice of French toast. It was a lot of food. We also ordered a half order of biscuits and gravy for the table to try. It was pretty good. The gravy was better than the biscuits, but that's rarely the case so I'm very pleased with that! My friend got the Hot Cake of the Day(?): Chocolate Cherry. We had a debate before it came out if it was a plain cake with chocolate and cherries on top or a chocolate cake with cherries. It was the latter. And even with the Chocolate sauce it was a little drier than I'd like but she seemed very pleased with it.

Still a spot to grab a meal! Impromptu decision early afternoon and called to check in on wait and to be added to waitlist... graciously hostess obliged! This time happened to try Shrimp & Polenta (GF) with over medium eggs along with my favorites to order hot cocoa and brunch cocktail Percolator and mom got French Toast, turkey sausage, eggs & Roasted Red Potatoes For me, shrimp dish just need a bit more spices to give it more flavor other than the spicyness from the peppers. I appreciate the attention by the waitress Hannah and owner with another batch .. just wasn't for me! My mom enjoyed her chosen meal completely! Her mimosas flights were a bit much for her, so I got to enjoy those again too!

Delicious. I'm not a big go-out-to-eat for brunch kind of gal, because most places you just pay extra for basic breakfast food that you can cook at home for like $2. This place is a step up! ALL their brunch food was delicious and elevated the humble egg, biscuit, and even ketchup! It all was made fresh and well-seasoned. Ketchup and honey butter was made in house! Waitress was awesome too. Keep in mind you have to park in the lot across the street and validate your parking via the QR code at the check in table in the restaurant. It's free, but if you don't validate, you could get an $80+ ticket. Only took 2 min to validate, just need your license plate.

The Homesteader had been on my list for a LONG time, so when my family asked me to find a restaurant for brunch after the zoo run that could accomodate a big crowd and take a reservation this place was on my radar. I was really impressed because they could actually accommodate us. I needed to make a reservation for a Saturday morning for 10 and after some research I quickly found that most places either don't take weekend brunch reservations or don't take them online for more than 8. Honestly I get why and it's fair, but it limited us on where to go. I was insanely grateful that the Homesteader made this easy peasy for us to book. The run was on a stormy Saturday and as we all finished the race we realized the rain (and thunder, and lighting) was right on our heels! This changed our plans a bit as we had planned to hang out at the zoo for a bit longer and let the kiddos run around. Instead, we ran to our cars to avoid the thunderstorm! So, what did this do to our brunch plans? It made us about 30 minutes early. We decided to go and try our luck anyways. My parents made it there first and the Homesteader was super kind and had our table ready so we were able to sit down and eat a bit earlier than expected. Now to the restaurant (I know, you've waited long enough!). I would describe this place as a hyper local, cozy, breakfast and brunch cafe. It feels warm, welcoming, and like it's been around for a while when you come inside. The folks working were honestly some of the best I've ever encountered. SO friendly, so happy to answer questions, and so kind to my kid. Honestly, they really made our visit a great one. We all tried different things on the menu and everything from the cinnamon roll to the benedict was really good! There were some unique items on the menu, and even the coffee came out tasty, which was amazing when you've waited until 10 am for your first cup of the day. Overall I'd come back for sure. The food is very good, it might not be the absolute best in the city, but they make up for it with charm, some of the best staff in town, and a cozy neighborhood ambiance.

Farmer's breakfast: eggs, sausage, roasted potatoes and hotcakes.

Great breakfast experience. From the waitstaff to the food. The restaurant is located on the outskirts of downtown. Walked there from my hotel (15 minutes). Grabbed a seat at the bar. Bartender/waitress soon arrived and proceeded to pour water and share their breakfast-brunch cocktail menu, but it was iced tea for me. Had the Farmers Breakfast where the diner selects 4 items. I chose eggs, roasted potatoes, sausage and hotcakes. Probably should have chosen fruit instead of the hotcakes. The sausage is legit. Ketchup tasted made in house. Waitperson continually checked in while dining. Very reasonable prices for breakfast. Very filling. And they validate parking! Highly recommended.

What I love: 1. Being able to make reservations 2. Normal sized portions and matching prices 3. Validated parking We had great service - she was friendly and efficient. The menu has so many options for all tastes. Our table had a burger, French toast, biscuits and gravy, eggs Benedict and chicken and waffles. Everyone cleaned their plates! We'll be back for sure - so many other delicious things I want to try.

They were pretty busy since it was Mother's Day, but we were able to get seated at the bar right away. The bartender was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu. Overall, it was a good experience. I will say that the coffee was lukewarm when I got it. I got the Salmon Benedict, and it was very good. The eggs were perfectly poached. The potatoes were good, but unexpectedly spicy. And the house made ketchup was definitely different, not bad, just was not expecting the taste difference. My partner got the breakfast sandwich and it was delicious. I will say, I will be back to try the Fall Pig because it sounded delicious.

Wow! I absolutely love this restaurant. The inside is very warm and inviting, with booth or traditional table seating available and plenty of windows letting in natural light. The restaurant has that cozy, family-run feel - plus, they had a great playlist. I ordered the farmers breakfast, which is a great choice for those who like having options. With the farmers breakfast, you're able to select 4 items to create your perfect breakfast, starting at only $12 - I chose hotcakes, sausage, sunny side up eggs, and roasted red potatoes. Everything I wanted and more, with perfectly fluffy pancakes and deliciously flavored sausage. My partner ordered the chicken & waffles; a great mix of sweet and salty, with crisp, tender chicken and a spicy aioli on the side. So yummy. Our server was kind, and great at what she does. She was personable and chatted with us about our plans for the day, checked on us every so often, and always had a smile. So pleasant. Will definitely be adding Homesteader into my rotation. It's comforting, affordable, and delicious. An excellent breakfast/brunch staple!

I love that they have parking. The coffee was great. The staff was quick and kind. The food was a good portion for brunch and the prices were decent. On a Saturday morning they did not have many people there. They have both indoor and outdoor seating.

Let me begin by prefacing the 3 stars are for the incredible service and the fried green tomatoes. I made a conscious decision to try this breakfast spot while pondering someplace I'd never been for our anniversary. I didn't want anything elaborate or fancy...just laid back, casual and comfy so THIS was the choice. Upon entering the restaurant there were a few others scattered about...not crowded, but not empty either. The decor was nice and I enjoyed reading the quotes that were displayed in several places. We were both greeted and escorted to our table with no wait. Our waitress was fairly quick to acknowledge our presence and let us know she'd be with us shortly. Quite frankly, she had me at hello. In that short moment she was very welcoming and pleasingly pleasant. I don't see a whole lot of that anymore so I was Appreciative. Emma was patient as she took our order and was helpful in suggesting certain options to us. I was so glad to see various vegetable choices on the breakfast menu. Fried green tomatoes were an excellent choice for starters. They were huge, nicely breaded, piping hot and hit the spot! Two thumbs up on these! The scrambled eggs, turkey sausage and roasted potatoes were not tasty at all. I can't figure out how you can mess these items up, but they certainly left something to be desired. The pancakes tasted better than they looked so that was a plus. The portion size was sufficient and I ended up taking some home as I am not big on wasting food. The ambiance was ok. The highlight of our visit was really Emma. She was THE sweetest waitress ever with such a Beautiful, WINNING personality. It made our visit refreshing despite the 'not-so-good' food. Maybe it was an 'off day' for the chef so I'll give him (or her) some Grace. Thanks Emma! It was wonderful conversing with you. Our time was even more special because YOU were a part of it. Continue being GREAT!

Tried this super cute brunch spot this past Saturday for my daughters birthday weekend get together. It was packed, so I knew immediately the food was going to be amazing! I ordered the chicken sandwich with seasoned potatoes. My grandkids had the kids pancakes and my daughter ordered the chicken and waffles. We also ordered the chocolate beignets to start and I had a mimosa. Everything was so delicious! They accept reservations and there is a parking lot across the street that is free with validation, just scan the QR code inside at the hostess table. There is a bar area and cute decor. The champagne bottles kept popping, meaning a great place for mimosas!

I forgot you spell it but they are pronounced Ben-Yays + chocolate goo sauce
    Nate C.

This is where I decided that it was time to order a bedframe and a new bedding set. I'm not sure if it was my friends telling me that's it's time I grew up or if it was the delicious food that matured me. The benyays came with a great chocolate goo sauce , I couldn't tell you what kind of sauce it was but definitely chocolate and definitely goo. i was sad at first bc we had to share one little cup of creamer but it turns out that we were able to share the creamer nicely amongst each other and we were even allowed to ask for more creamer which is just stellar customer service!

I enjoyed 3 of the pieces, took one home and my date had the other piece. All 5 pieces arrived out piping hot, crispy, bone in and flavorful. Our server Paige took great care of us all evening -- friendly, attentive, and helpful without hovering. Drinks were a strong start. My wife enjoyed the Rittenhouse Rye, and I went with the White Mezcal Negroni, which was a fun twist on a classic. We mixed it up more than usual with our food order. I typically go straight for the Smoked Pork Chop (and probably will again next time), but this visit I decided to try the Chicken Tagliatelle. No regrets -- just a reminder of how much I love that pork chop. We loaded up on small plates to kick things off: the Pickles, Potted Cheese, Mushrooms, and Carrot Soup. The "pickles" are more of a seasonal vegetable assortment than traditional pickles, which made them more interesting. The mushrooms and the soup were absolute standouts -- rich, comforting, and perfect for a chilly evening. For entrées, we ordered the Courlette Steak and the Chicken Tagliatelle. The steak had great flavor, though it came out a bit more done than the medium we requested. The chicken pasta was hearty and satisfying, and I'm glad I gave it a try. Dessert really stole the show. The Pudding Chômeur was easily the highlight of the night -- warm, sweet, and incredibly comforting. Total crowd-pleaser. The Almond Cherry White Chocolate Ice Cream was also a big hit at the table and a perfect way to finish the meal. Another memorable dinner at one of our favorite spots. Now let's hope my photos post this time.

I can't believe I haven't written a review yet bc this place rocks my socks off!! The thing that blows my mind is that I've never had a bad meal here. We usually order 5-7 dishes here, and not a single one has been bad. Sure, we've had one, maaaaaybe 2 items where we were like, "okay, that was good but not amazing"--but it's rare. The first time I came here, I looked at the menu and was like, none of these words mean anything to me and some of these straight up sound like Harry Potter spells, but then the food comes and EVERYTHING tastes amazing. It's magical! The menu does rotate frequently, but somethings stay on for a while, like the cauliflower. Never have I ever been so excited about a head of cauliflower, but this one is just so delicious with the nuttiness of the almond slivers and the mild spices from the romesco. YUM. That's a dish you'll have to get! The cocktails are equally magical! The seasonal spritz is my go-to. Definitely don't snooze on the cocktails. They also have an interesting list of wines too, for those who are into some funky stuff. **They do have a sister restaurant called Anjin (which is supposed to be a "Japanese" Izakaya-esque experience) but as a Japanese person, it was a hard no for me. The Antler Room is definitely the better of the two.

My colleagues and I went to Tannin on a random Sunday based off a recommendation from another business owner. He said that they had a killer wine list and great apps. And he was right! What we didn't know was that we picked the best day to go for a group of 6 people. Sunday's buy a bottle get one free really suited our group. We ended up ordering two bottles of white and two bottles of red ($40-50 price range) and shared those between the six of us. We were also allowed to cork-and-carry any wine that we didn't finish. We ordered and shared the following appetizers: cheese & charcuterie, roasted red pepper hummus, crispy shrimp, pommes frites, and chicken shawarma. All of it was great - especially the chicken shawarma. Why this review isn't 5 stars: We were there to ask questions about different wine profiles and really learn about what we were drinking. This task seemed out of the comfort zone of our server, which we thought to be odd. However, there was another gentleman there (whose name I have unfortunately forgotten) that really helped us out and steered us in the right direction all night. His recommendations did not disappoint. The other reason is that the rest of the menu is at a high pricepoint. We only ordered appetizers because of this. Overall - HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

It's a lovely restaurant. It seems a bit out of the way with mostly corporate buildings around. The restaurant has a nice modern aesthetic. I like the purple hyacinths hanging from the ceiling in one area. It was very steady for an off time in the afternoon. First, our server Olivia was amazing! Very attentive and we were extra needy this day so I really appreciate her patience. We even dropped food on the floor. Oops! She was so nice about it and cleaned it up immediately. We had customizations and extra requests. No problem for her! She went above and beyond. I hope she sees this because she was such a joy! The food was also very good. We started with the biscuits and one peach compote and one blueberry. Both were yummy. They were traditional drop biscuits and I love a good biscuit! We also had an order of fried green tomatoes on goat cheese grits. You get 4 very large slices. I could only eat one. The grits were yummy but there were not enough of them in relation to the friend green tomatoes. They were also encased by a sauce. I'm guessing a remoulade. I don't really care for remoulade sauce so I'd have removed it had I known it came with the dish. It really overpowered the goat cheese taste in the grits. The tomatoes were very al dente and I would have preferred them cooked a bit more. The dish was still good but my least favorite and I would normally love anything with those ingredients and fried green tomatoes are a favorite so the remoulade (or whatever it was) sauce was a real problem for me. I would definitely get them again without the sauce because they are great otherwise. But that sauce just overpowers every other flavor! I got the chicken tender dinner and others in my party got the bone in fried chicken. Everyone liked their chicken. The tenders were a big size. 4 of them but I hit 2 meals out of them. Everyone liked the Parmesan rosemary potatoes. I really liked the bacon green beans. The only side we weren't impressed with was the Mac and cheese unfortunately. The cheese was not good. We got coffees and a chai. All of them were very good. A bit pricey for the amount you get though. Even with the smaller complaints, I'd still give th a 5 because of the outstanding service and the dishes were overall very good and large portions. We will definitely return and I hope to try out a breakfast item next visit!

Food-wise, there were two undeniable stars of the night: * Wagyu Nigiri (100/10) - One of the best bites I've ever had. Rich, buttery, perfectly balanced, and worth ordering every single time. * Crab Campanelli (11/10) - Absolutely incredible. Comfort food elevated to fine dining quality. If I came back tomorrow, I'd order this again without hesitation. Other highlights: * Filet (10/10) - Beautifully cooked, incredibly flavorful, and paired with perfectly prepared bok choy. Everything on the plate felt intentional. * Night Market Wings (8.5/10) - The quality was excellent. The sweet heat profile just wasn't exactly my personal preference, but that's purely subjective. If you enjoy spicy food with a lingering, slightly numbing heat, you'll probably love these. * Shrimp Tempura Roll (8/10) - Very good and executed well. * Tuna Roll (7/10) - Good, but it was the least memorable item compared to some of the standout dishes we ordered. Noka excels at creating a complete dining experience. Beautiful atmosphere, thoughtful presentation, excellent service, and several dishes that genuinely surprised us. For a special occasion, date night, or anyone looking for an elevated dining experience in Kansas City, it's absolutely worth a visit.
