The Good Closer to home than the box stores, and the stores themselves are easier to shop than the stadium-size retailers. Pretty good selection of the stuff I typically buy here-- nuts, bolts, screws, etc., stuff for DIY projects. This store always has someone nearby, ready and willing to help. One guy not only found exactly the fasteners I needed but bagged and labeled them for cost. That was very convenient. If you join their rewards program, twice a month you'll get a coupon for $5 off purchase of $25 (exclusions apply, such as items already on sale) Now and then they have good sales on stuff I might care to buy. The Bad The prices are typically higher than other retailers. So, even if you use the Rewards coupon, you're probably only breaking even as compared to shopping Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe's. Sigh. Customet service can be hit and miss. The folks out on the floor are great in being quick to offer help, but they may lack knowledge. The person running the cash register may not interrupt their visiting with another employee to give you more than a glance. Bottom line: it's worth it to pay Ace extra for convenience on small stuff, and I'm not reluctant to shop there due to any serious complaints about customer service. But if I need a bunch of hardware or I need moderately expensive tools that aren't on sale here, I'm probably shopping elsewhere. read more

Our experience was unfortunately not a positive one. We had a scheduled free estimate appointment arranged in advance. Due to an unexpected medical leave situation involving our office staff, we were unable to make the appointment as originally planned. We fully understand the inconvenience that scheduling changes can cause and would have gladly worked toward rescheduling the appointment professionally. Instead, the communication that followed was unnecessarily confrontational and unprofessional. Rather than attempting to resolve the situation respectfully, the interaction quickly became hostile despite the circumstances being related to an unforeseen medical issue. As a contractor, we regularly provide free estimates that require scheduling, travel time, project review, and planning before any agreement or compensation takes place. Emergencies and unexpected situations can happen in any business, and professional communication and understanding should exist on both sides. There were also concerns regarding expectations surrounding project costs and contractor responsibilities that suggested a difficult working relationship moving forward. For other contractors and service professionals, I would strongly recommend clearly establishing expectations, communication procedures, and boundaries early before investing substantial time into the project process. I purchased a Christmas gift for my Dad over Thanksgiving weekend online for pick up at this location, believing it was a thanksgiving sale. Of course I got the item wrong. When he went in to return the item with the receipt he was told he had to have the card it was purchased with or there would be nothing they could do. I came back into town a few days later, picked up the item and receipt and brought it into ACE where now I am being told they have a strict 30 day return policy no exceptions and nothing to be done. I called corporate and told them about the experience. Corporate was shocked that they would require the card it was purchased on, as that is not policy and only an order number would be needed. After 30 days corporate blocks all returns. I now have a pending case and still out over $100 due to their incompetence and willingness to follow corporates no card need return policy in the first place. read more

I was in this store today and the."manager" or that's what he said he was then 25 minutes later he says he is only the lead, his name is Gabe no name tag and was not presentable as a manager should. He made us wait 22 minutes before even helping my husband and we were trying to exchange a propane tank they gave us and when we got home it was damaged my husband is battling stage 4 cancer and I don't drive and we haven't been able to get in to exchange it one day my husband was actually in the store and remembered the tank and the lady in there said he could return it no problem being it was damaged and from them. So he said he would return soon to do so. Gabe came back from the back and said his "manager" said he could not return it. I told him that was unacceptable and that he needed to give us the managers number he said there's no number to give. He said he would try to go talk to them again made us wait another 10 minutes to come back and.say he would not do it and that the owners said no. "Owners?" Thought he called the manger. Then he try to insult my husband by saying well I can offer you 15% off a new one. Really?! Never. Have I ever encountered service like that. Shame on you Ace Hardware, and owners of the store and the young manager named Gabe. So we left with a ripped piece of paper he have with the stores number on it and told us call the store. Horrible customer service. Bought a pizza table online on sale. They said it was a floor model and would give me a 10 percent discount if I wanted it. I did. But they marked up the price to fill price first not the discount off the sale price. Trying to shop local but Amazon would be more honest and know what they are doing. read more

They held it in their safe while attempting to locate him through various means. After many attempts, Rick obtained my husband's phone number to let him know his money clip was found, WITH ALL CASH, credit cards and ID included. You can't find people like this anymore. What is wrong with the management and employees here? Every time I've gone into that store, I get the most rude and horrible human beings. I'd say they're just as bad as the associates at Walmart. Where they're totally inconvenienced they have to answer a question. Or God forbid they have to stop what they're doing to help you find something. There is an old man with glasses and he was the biggest jerk. He didn't understand what I needed, which was a copper line, not threaded and not tubing. But he was the least helpful and condescending bitter person I've ever encountered. I live a mile away or less and I'll never go back. I'd rather drive 10 miles to Lowes or literally anywhere else than go back to that place. They're all bad. I can't recall encountering 1 person who was actually happy to help or didn't roll their eyes when I asked if they could show me where something specific was because I couldn't find it on my own. Managers hire their own kind. But that place is a dumpster fire when it comes to customer service. It's shocking that service has gotten that bad and nothing gets done about. They don't even care. Doesn't matter how miserable your life is, you don't take it out on someone else. I have bad days too but I NEVER take it out on anyone else. And nothing will get done about this either. Trishia's unprofessionalism and hostile attitude is the reason for this one-star rating. Today I went into Ace to purchase another gallon of a paint color which I had purchased several times before and used to paint my entire house. The paint color is Benjamin-Moore, but the base is Magnolia Homes - mixing it requires a few additional steps on the computer, but even brand new employees have been able to fulfill this $60 order politely and without much trouble. When I asked Trishia to sell me this paint, she refused. Trishia said it was "impossible" for the system to mix this color and base. When I told her I had purchased the paint here several times before and was just trying to keep the color and finish of my already painted house consistent, she told me that was "not possible," that I was "wrong," and that it "wasn't done here," with a very condescending and rude attitude. After getting nowhere with her, I told her I had an old can of the paint at my house, and that I could bring it in to show her. Trishia laughed, and said she, "would love to see it." She also refused to answer if they would be able to match the paint based on me bringing in the old can/label; instead she just reiterated that I was mistaken. I drove home, retrieved the old paint can, and drove back to Ace (thanks Trishia). When I reentered the store, another employee was working at the paint desk. I showed him the label, and asked if he could make the paint - to which he responded "sure," and he and a supervisor professionally and kindly fulfilled the order. This would be a five star review if this was my only interaction at Ace and Trishia was off work today. As the paint was being mixed, Trishia returned, and without realizing the paint was already being made, reiterated that it was impossible, and that I wouldn't be able to have the order fulfilled. I explained to her that her coworkers had already helped me and, much to her shock, that it was in fact possible to mix a paint color with a paint base. I shopped for a few other items, and as I was shopping I heard Trishia say loud enough for multiple customers to hear, that she "needed a vacation" (unprofessional and unwelcoming but ok), and that she "felt like she needed to punch someone in the face." I was unsure if the "someone" who needed punching was me, or if it was just directed at all the customers in general, but it was loud enough to hear without even being near her. I would just like to buy some paint without being threatened from across the store, but I guess that's too much to ask from Trishia. This kind of behavior does not make me feel welcome in Ace. It does not make me want to give them my business in the future. This has been the first time I've experienced this level of unprofessionalism and hostility here, so maybe Trishia is just a fluke who somehow slipped through the hiring process. If you shop here, try to deal with employees other than Trishia, or even better, buy paint somewhere else. Sherwin Williams just opened up across the street. read more

Update 6/22/22 ..... after speaking with Loco Grills , they said Ace had to refund out money and take the flat grill back . Then Ace , had to call Loco grills , and they finally agreed to take the grill back and give us a refund for the grill. Was super excited about this store, I like my tools and garage. On the first visit, I got a craftsman floor jack and it had some fluid on the inside of the box and the next day was just leaking. Unfortunately, I'm lazy and left it to my future self so that's on me not returning it immediately. If I could have returned it, I'm writing this review now cause tried returning a perfectly working evap cooler, for a bigger one cause I like how it worked but needed more power. I bought it on the 23rd tried to return it told and was told I could not...A week later I have a paper that states 30 days. I'll just keep using this one and never shop here again. I tried to return a trailer hitch ball that I had purchased the day before that was the wrong size stem, I just wanted to exchange for the correct one but two young boys at the register both refused stating it wasn't in its original package. The second boy that they called up even said this looks like it's been used when it didn't fit in my trailer hitch so it wasn't used that was the reason it was coming back to get the correct one. And the packaging was with it but it was broken because it's plastic and that was the only way to get the hitch out of it was to break it apart but that wasn't good enough for them they refused to exchange it or return it. If they want continued neighborhood business they need to change their policies to adapt to each individual situation. I live three miles from there and I choose to now Drive twice that distance just to get a hardware store that is helpful. I even went home and grabbed everything else that I had purchased the day before and returned all of it because now it's a matter of principle. read more

I needed a propane gas line for my trailer. I told the salesman I didn't know which one. He looked at mine and said he had what I need. I purchased 2 and went home and tried to put them on. They did not fit. I went back to the store and they told me they could not accept returns of propane products. I explained that I was following the advice of their employee. Manager told me "we may have advised you but ultimately the choice to purchase it was your decision". I will use this store only for small things when I don't feel like driving to another store. I needed O-rings for my pool popup floor cleaners. I went to Litchfield Pools, Leslie's pools, Lowe's, and Auto Zone with no luck. Litchfield pools said they could order the part. Ace has a giant variety of O-ring sizes. And customer service was great, they brought me straight from the front door to the O-rings. read more

Bought a hand tamper this morning and didn't end up using it. Stoped by to return it and the owner/manager Michelle refused to take it back because it was dusty im assuming. Didn't give me a real reason why. Just looked at me and said, "I'm not taking it back" and walked away while the other cashiers and I looked at each other confused. It was obviously dusty from being in the back of my truck during the day and I had a load of quarter minus in the back of it. Purchased a propane tank for upcoming barbecue. Didn't have an exchange so paid $70 for the tank and the propane. Didn't work the night of the barbecue, the valve was inop. Screwed up everything! Figured I just take it back, refund, purchase a new tank and have it filled. I've had issues with these rentals previously. When I tried to take it back, they said no refunds - against their policy. What?! You gotta be kidding me, where is the "helpful hardware folks" song and dance? They said they would fill a new tank for me on exchange which was fine - but then they spent the next 40 minutes trying to prove to me that I was wrong, nothing wrong with my original tank. At first they couldn't get it started either but after doing some adjustment, they finally got it to work. The whole time I sat there and kept thinking what is the big deal? I would have no problem, returning it at Home Depot, Lowe's, anywhere else but here everything was about keeping their money and trying to show me up. Once they got the original tank to work, I said fine - oh you're still feeling a new one just so I don't have to go through this hassle again. They said no, yours is working fine now. I couldn't believe it .. disgusted, I just walked out. They can keep the tank, they can keep the $70 - obviously it's worth more than them then it was to me. I wanted nothing more to do with them. Rude associates at the register. Needed to return an item, didn't realize it wasn't good for the job I was doing until I tried it. The cashier said it wasn't returnable because it was used, he proceeded to rudely point out the return policy. This was my first time shopping there and never will again. I'll continue to shop Lowe's and Home Depot where the return policy's are more understanding and better customer service at the return desks. Why should someone be stuck with a product that's not good just because they used it once and it failed them.
