Went to this place for the first time today and won't be back. My daughter ordered apple juice that she told me didn't taste right, when I tried the juice it was clear that it was rotten and tasted like it had spent 10 weeks fermenting into hard cider. Food was mediocre tasting and the second we got our food we had fruit flys SWARMING us and crawling all over our food. When we told the waitress multiple of them came to our table and apologized and explained they don't know what's causing the flies and that half their dining area was closed because of it and offered to move us to a different table, which we declined because it was very obvious the flies were just all over. They said the health department has been coming to visit trying to eradicate them and they "can't figure out what it is". One waitress said she'd get the owner and then came back and said the owner wouldn't speak to us but wasn't going to charge us for our meal (that bugs were crawling all over). I should think not. We parked out back and had to walk by the kitchen on our way out, which the door was open to and it didn't look sanitary to me. They had a giant unmanned stack of potato peels just sitting on the counter. No wonder you can't get the fly problem to go away. My stomach is starting to hurt and I'll be calling the health department. read more

This is a cute little cafe in downtown Sumner that serves up some great food. We started with the small cinnamon roll which the two of us shared. It was gooey, warm and so yummy. We both ordered the small breakfast cooked exactly the same way because like mother like daughter and it came out identical. The portions were good and the food was delicious. You can tell this is a favorite place for many because the servers knew a lot of the customers by name. I highly recommend coming here! read more

Sat for 20 minutes before we got water.. ordered food and waited 40 minutes while every table around us was served (even people who were sat after us). I have visited this sweet cafe twice enjoying lunch with a friend who was visiting from California. I enjoyed a delicious bowl of soup and a chicken wrap . My friend ordered the cinnamon roll, I'm a baker so I would never order baked goods unless I cooked it, but OH MY it was mouthwatering good. Just this last week was my second visit for lunch and YES we had to order the cinnamon roll , first thing when we arrived. It was so, so, so good ! The service was outstanding and I felt very comfortable with the COVID protocal they were following. First I will say they were very friendly and welcoming. Hometown is a small café on the main stree in downtown Sumner and has some rustic charm. I gave them 3 stars which say - A-OK per Yelp. We only had the breakfast so I can only rate the quality of the actual service and food based on what we ate. The eggs and French toast were good but the sausage tasted like real low quality - dry and bland. Still for the price - not that bad. We added the addition of strawberries and whip cream (an option on the menu) but the waitress forget both. NOTE - we did split the meal since we were not that hungry - which Hometown was very accommodating and split it for us - which may have thrown her off. But - when I reminded her about the Strawberries - she went and got those - but no whip cream. Took another reminder. I might come back again - and try lunch - breakfast - probably not. read more

Their food is served in generous portions and is pretty good if under-seasoned, but the service? I was there on a Sunday afternoon around 1 o'clock. I ordered my grub and then waited..and waited..and waited some more. There were 4 tables occupied and three servers, so what was the hold-up? Anyway 35 minutes later I was just about to tell my server, " uh, I ordered the food to eat TODAY", when right on cue the vittles finally arrive. I'm giving them five stars for the outstanding way that a potentially very negative experience was handled beautifully. We came in the early afternoon to have a nice breakfast and our meals came out looking pretty off-putting. I'm assuming that the gal that handled the situation was either the manager or the owner. But she was quick to apologize and try to make things right. Being so gracious and actually compensating us beyond expectations. The food was not good but we have eaten here in the past and been happy. This visit it sounds like they had extenuating circumstances in the kitchen which we hope will be remedied ASAP for their sake and ours. But again, I'd rather give my business to a place that handles issues professionally and with dignity than a place that may give me great food but makes me feel unappreciated or has a cold atmosphere. I have ventured to Hometown Charm Cafe on 3 occasions. I'm all about small town eateries, and was really excited about a highly rated breakfast spot. My last 2 visits were nothing short of frustrating, however. The waiter who tends to the 8 tables upstairs appears overworked and stressed out because he is forgetful and not very efficient. We waited 30 minutes after being seated for 2 glasses of juice, received incorrect orders, and ended up having to follow him to the register just for us to pay and leave after waiting for the check that never came. My husband and I are pretty patient, so we kept giving him the benefit of the doubt. The service here could definitely be improved. I'm not really interested in returning because I feel like I'm inconveniencing the staff every time I give this place another chance. It's not worth it for potatoes and eggs. Was excited to try a local breakfast spot, being lazy we ordered through doordash. The omelettes are advertised as "extra large" so went with the half. The unfortunate fact is it was tasty but the filling was, being generous, maybe a tablespoon of meat & another tablespoon of veggies. I seriously was shocked, I even lifted up the omelet to see if it fell out..nope. not cool for $10.50! Hobo Hash, again I was enticed by the "better be hungry " tag and got the half. Small quaint breakfast brunch lunch spot. Plenty of options when we have gone here for lunch. Believe they close at 3pm. Addition: Lunch today at 2/18 was terrible. Not the normal lunch crew or chefs. The special was cooked just bleh. The servers weren't attentive or apologetic about the delay of getting food to the customers. I am going to have to forget this experience before I decide to return. Normally a 3-4 star place for lunch. read more

This restaurant is really nice looking with chalkboards, Edison lights and brick accent walls. But their food is verrrry lacking. The "sausage" literally taste like a hot dog no spices in it at all. The cinnamon roll French toast was soggy and had a cinnamon sugar sprinkled on top which only made this over the top sweet. The waffle came out with the whipped cream melted almost all the way. Score!! We were searching for a reliable, CLEAN, go to breakfast joint, and we hope this will be it. It was their one year anniversary, so delicious cinnamon roll samples were being offered, as well as non alcoholic sangria. Spouse had breakfast sandwich, I had a hobo scramble dish. Both were quite tasty and my full portion was actually two meals. Staff was friendly, owner came out to greet all her guests and the place was clean! Tried this place today, looked cute from outside, promised good hometown cooking. Disappointed. Waited over 45 mins after ordering. Inquired about order, was told 'coming up', only to wait another 20 mins before commenting to owner, who did not apologize nor offer any appetizer or discount. Waitress brought chocolate muffin for kids, but we went for lunch, not dessert. Waited another 15 mins only to get lukewarm food that was just ok. Made daughters burger wrong, but rest was tasteful, just not hot. Others around us also frustrated, though we saw a few tables seated after us, served and left long before we ever even got the muffin as a token offering. Silly. Initially on Father's Day, I was looking forward to breakfast at The Buttered Biscuit in Sumner as without a doubt I had always thought they served the absolute best chicken fried steak in the area.  We arrived early in anticipation of large crowds only to find the parking lot was full and the line of folks waiting for a table extended to the parking lot. Not wanting to stand in line we reluctantly decided to try The Hometown Charm Café over on Main Street. As we entered the café the first two things we noticed was that it was not crowded and at the same time were greeted by a smiling and gracious employee.  The café was well lit, super clean and before we were settled in we met yet another smiling and most gracious lady who turned out to be Teresa Maycumber whom we learned was one of the owners. The menu was extensive and I thought what the heck I'll try their chicken fried steak.   And what can I say about that chicken steak....simply that it was every bit as good if not better than any chicken fried steak I have had anywhere!  If you're looking for a truly scrumptious and delicious dessert, look no further as they have a baker that is second to none. A wonderful experience with great food and an owner and staff that are  friendly, courteous and thank you for your patronage. read more

Hometown Cafe has the same menu as Minions, the food is great and the staff are friendly and attentive. There cinnamon roll French toast is amazing! This a great restaurant! Has a wonderful atmosphere. There breakfast and lunch dishes are great. I enjoy the all meat breakfast burrito with their boyfriend sauce. They are very accommodating they let you have their amazing French fries with breakfast! When I say amazing French fries they are to die for and great to take home and eat later. My son had the chocolate chip pancakes w/bacon which was amazing, I had the unique hometown burger on ciabatta bread with a special Sriracha sauce which made it all the more tasty!
