I love supporting our local sandwich shop and bakery. The bread and lunch meats are prepared fresh daily and the sandwiches are absolutely my favorite around the valley. You can customize your own sandwich or choose one of their signature creations. I personally love the Pancho Villa-"Sassy" style! They also have an amazing selection of home-baked desserts, cookies, and cakes. I ordered a pink champagne cake for an occasion and it was perfectly decorated and delicious. The cashier at this place at 1:50 pm on Saturday March 19, 2022 was one of the most impolite, no manners, no respect, such rudeness and most horrible ever in my life of 60 years had ever waiting on me. Literally left without buying a thing. And as she said during the transaction... (which she by the way , tried to overcharge me for), It's now 2:00, we're closed and we're done. At that I shoved my tray of 8 cupcakes back at her and said you can keep your cupcakes and left... never to return. Went down the street to Wildflower Cafe who gladly waited on me with amazing kindness (even though it was past closing hours) sold me cookies for half price and just gave me a tray of their muffins for free. Funny though... another couple was in their waiting on their sandwiches to be made (again... passed closing hours), only for them to tell me that the same girl was just as rude to them. She refused to make them a sandwich at 1:45 and said they were too late and she would not make them a sandwich. So they just a few cookies instead... and knew she overcharged them as well. So they lost 2 sets of customers in a day. Funny... I thought I was in Exeter... the town of friendly people. Well at least everyone else was in town ... just not the girl at this place. Customer service was great online ordering was fast and convenient! I ordered the chicken salad and although it was good it could use a little bit more protein and avocado in my opinion. I'll try their sandwiches next time. Btw the cookie was amazing ! read more

We were in Exeter just walking around for fun. Stopped in to the bakery for some cookies for the grandkids. The cookies were great and I personally really liked the Mexican wedding cookies. Anyway, the other bakery items looked tempting and freshly made. A funky atmosphere, in a good way, and the young gal behind the counter was helpful and informative. This is an updated review. The sandwiches here are very good, & the baked goods are also tasty. Based on food alone, I would give 4 or 5 stars. The service, however, leaves much to be desired. The employees seem to not be very well trained, because each one says something different about the menu, or they don't know & have to ask. No one working there seems to be remotely interested in the business. The food quality is fairly inconsistent; I've ordered the same sandwich every time & have had some noticeable variations - not enough to ruin it, but enough to make me question myself whether I had ordered the same thing or not. Their online ordering service on the website is confusing, & when I tried to order, it says the service wasn't available even though it was during normal hours. They also stop making sandwiches one hour before closing! This information isn't publicly available anywhere, so effectively they close one full hour before their posted times. The potential is there for this to be a GREAT place, but there are things that need to be improved. read more

Two things happened to me when I stopped in Hometown Emporium. First I saw the DIRTIEST TOILET I have ever seen in my life. I couldn't believe my eyes. There was literally urine and filth just caked all over from top to bottom. Usually I don't review based on a toilet but it's the only one they have and it's awful. Seriously, they have never cleaned their bathroom (they only have one stall) since this business opened. Period. And if their public restroom is this disgusting let's just guess that things we can't see (like the kitchen) are not much better. Ewwwwww. Secondly I had the grossest maple twist ever. I didn't know you could mess us a doughnut until I purchased one from Hometown Emporium. Bit it, and spit it out. The bar went in the trash. That was easy to forget... now if I could just forget that restroom :( read more

Love, LOVE their sandwiches. Although I'm not vegetarian, the veggie is my favorite. All their bread is homemade daily. The wheat walnut is delish. Also, we just had them cater an event. They were over the top accommodating. They were very helpful in figuring out ALL the details (lunch menu) - we weren't sure on how many to expect. Plus, they made THE best tri tip sandwiches (on homemade rolls), plus a great basil pasta salad, green salad, veggie & fruit trays & homemade cookies. Sometimes they are pretty busy during high school lunch time but they have some efficient workers that will work very fast to have your order ready. Kristy and her staff at Hometown Emporium are spectacular! We recently used Hometown's catering services for our 10 year high school reunion, and we couldn't have asked for better food or service! The food, by the way, was delicious - everyone raved about how good their dinners were! I will definitely use Hometown Emporium again the next time I need a local caterer. I am also a huge fan of their sandwiches. I have yet to find a sandwich shop in LA (where I currently live) that rivals the deliciousness of Hometown Emporium's sandwiches. Each time we go here, which is often as the food and setting are great, we feel we've entered another time and place. The food and feel are of a small cafe in a farming community of the 1940's or 50's. All the dishes, including their pastries, are delicious. If only they were open for dinner! read more

A year later i mistakingly decided to give this place another try, because the food is pretty good and Exeter only has so many lunch options. Well the exact same thing happened that transpired last time. Our three sandwich order was once again completely screwed up. It's like they literally cannot take an order or the sandwich assembler cannot be bothered to follow directions. Waste of $30. No if's and's or but's about it, we will not return since they habitually mess up orders as bad as a fast food chain. I went over here after weeks on hearing how good these sandwiches were. With a hankering for a good sandwich, (there's only so much Mexican food a gringo can eat.) I figured I'd give this lil place a shot. And boy did this place not disappoint! I ordered the pancho villa, (I know right? Can't seem to shake the Mexican food theme) but I digress; it was a hoagie roll filled with delicious roast beef, Ortega chilies, cheese, and mayo. Mmmmmmmmmmm!!!! With a drink it came out to almost $10.00 bucks "ouch" but man ol' man was it worth every penny. And the staff was about as warm and friendly as a hallmark TV movie. Again I am new to town and trying to check out what this cool little town has to offer and me and my hubby had lunch here the other day- he had a turkey sandwhich and I had their special of the say lasagna with a salad. Lasagna was pretty good and my hubby said his sandwich was very very good but i was holding ut for the cookies!! oh my gosh i love their mexican wedding cake cookies- I also sampled thier snickerdoodles, chocolate chip cookes, fudge cookies and oh i cant remember what else i tried but I had to sneak over there after i dropped off my hubby to pick up some more cookies! They can be pretty busy during lunch but they are very fast. I am a student at Exeter High School. I have eaten at Hometown several times as a student and received their lunch special. Their lunch special comes with a sandwich, pickle, cookie, and a soda. Hometown is located downtown Exeter. They are an all family run business and base their business off of christian beliefs. They make all of their bread and cut all of their meat the day that they make and sell their food. They have approximately 8-10 workers working at once to make the most efficient amount of sandwiches during the busy lunch hour. read more
