This is a great place. It's nice and clean. Casino is fun. The staff, however, is what makes it. So kind. My husband was having problems with his credit card. It took a couple hours and never did get sorted out but they were just so sweet and patient with us at the front desk. Special shout out to Jerilyn. She was so friendly and great to talk to. PROS: Weather was very nice for April in the city of Pinetop-Lakeside. Lush wonderful pine trees all around. Welcoming employees. CONS: Unknowledgeable; reservation, and roomservice staff. Dirty bathroom. Smelly room. Nonworking appliances. Dirty fridge. So my situation wasn't the horrible, but this place can really do so much better. I started off by calling the reservation desk for the check-in time and I was told 3pm. After driving a few hours out to this place and walking up to the check-in desk I was told check-in is now 4pm. So, just a little annoyed but I walked around and sat in my car for awhile. When I finally got into my room I took a quick walk around. First thing I notice is the funky smell of the room. It seemed like they where trying to mask the smell of the room with some chemical fragrance, it was terrrrible. I took a look at the shower and the drain pan lid was laying upright on the shower wall exposing a dirty drain, and hair. The inside shower door look to have a booger on it and the walls seemed like it has soap scum still on them. I was tired and needed to whine down. I called the front desk for connection to rooomservice, they transfer me, I get someone, but she said I need roomservice and transfers me again. I finally get some young sounding lady. I tell her my order "The 12oz NY Strip". and she says okay thanks, bye. I say, hold on! Don't you want to know how I want that cooked? She says oh okay. She says okay, thanks bye. Again I say hey! There are sides, don't you need to know what I want (clearly this chick has no f/n idea of what's on the menu). Clueless staff. I had to walk this girl through the menu "I was reading in my hand". Trying to go to bed with that funky fragrance was one thing, but now for some reason there was some kind of chimney burnt wood smell and it was pretty strong. I go to put my left overs in the fridge and there is a long black hair laying in there (nice).. why me.. ha! Next morning I get up and start some coffee. After I get out of the shower I find the coffee pot water reservoir full and spilling. Well the flaming coffee pot is the incorrect size it's too small to reach the underneath coffee grounds container to release the water (this pot didn't match this coffee maker). Another night of roomservice mishaps, clueless staff. And the next day I'm checking out... I've flown around the country and stayed at various hotels some great, some grand some just okay, but this place I have to say was the worst so far. The area of Pinetop is lovely! The staff here is very accomodating. This is a casino, so expect it to be smokey in areas. The food is honestly just so-so. They offer crab legs in the buffet on Fridays & Sundays. However, I come for the music! They hold concerts in the conference rooms that are staged nicely with plenty of seating, tables, and bar. There is also a lounge area with live music. The rooms look nice, the beds are ok. I felt like I was sleeping uphill, and I woke up with a sore back. We had to switch rooms on two different occasions that we came.the first time, when we walked in, we noticed the cieling in the shower was *literally* on the floor. It caved in. The man at the desk (it was super late, 2-3 am?) Was very helpful and moved us right away. The second time we came, months later, we arrived at 4:30am. Exhausted from the 6 hr drive, we were given a room on the second story. That was ok, except the battery for the smoke alarm was chirping when we came in. So we had to haul our stuff back downstairs, get a new room, and haul our stuff all the way back up to the room across the hall from the first one. Again, staff was very nice and accomodating, but it was a bit frustrating. Overall though, the service is good. It's really close to town, and I highly recommend trying Johnny's picnic basket for breakfast! read more

Bathrooms are nice. Fully equipped with an overhead shower. They offer free room shampoo, soap, shower wash, but no conditioner. Could not find AC/heat controls. Needed to open windows, however since being on the parking lot level felt uncomfortable doing so, so the room was stuffy. Consequently I did not get a good nights rest. We went to see the Beatles' cover band, "Marmalade Skies" as they offer a special rate of $79 (normally $129) for room plus 2 tickets! A great deal for a Friday night at a casino! The funny thing though is that they would not offer a decent price for the night before, as, having driven from Maricopa, we really wanted to stay 2 nights. But they would not budge from the weekly rack rate of $109. Guess the casino is doing well enough they don't need players to linger for an extra day?!? Check-in was easy, laid-back customer service. Room. It was great, clean, very spacious with microwave, safe, wet bar coffee maker. A refrigerator is always nice, but a bit noisy. Bathroom was super with an overhead rain shower. The sink's hot water faucet dripped. Told the front desk, they didn't care much. Casino. We had good luck which is always nice. Good variety of machines. $10 in free play and a goodie bag for club membership signup. They allow alcoholic beverages on the floor. Bar. They have a happy hour, but its really difficult to find out the hours and the details. But prices were not bad. Restaurant. Ordered the gamblers special for breakfast at the Indian Pine. But our waitress said it was "not a good idea". Huh? She explained 3 orders had just been turned in and it would be at least 30 minutes. This review follows a 3 night hotel reservation resulting in us quitting after 2... From the squeevie room (clearly not cleaned regularly or thoroughly at any point.... If something drops on that carpet, just go ahead and burn it), the paper-thin walls (first night without sleep thanks to next door's conversation and tv well into the wee hours), the rancid stink coming from either the room's kitchenette sink or fridge, the strong stench of weed lining pretty much all the hallways outside the bedrooms, to the glimpse of the filthy hotel kitchens as we passed an open door, the real clincher that broke the camel's back and prompted us to pull the plug had to be while sitting by the fire in the reasonably-comfy lobby to enjoy hot chocolate with our young children when two young women approached the man sitting near us to ask if he had a girlfriend or might like to go home with them that night. Right by us and our little ones. Whatever this place used to be 20 years back, it's fallen so far that it is a depressing experience all around. The ONLY positive was the amazingly sweet lady manning the front desk on our first night. She was left to do it all, and despite the hectic, was super warm and kind. Dont stay here! Hotel room is 1 star quality!! Shower drain cover was left standing and i could see all the nasty crude in the drainage. Clean it out!! The AC auto function doesn't work. I had to wake up several times to turn on/off the AC unit. Fix it!! The TV's remote control buttons don't respond to my touch. No volume control at all. I had to walk to the TV to manually turn it up or down the volume. Replace the damn remote!! The floors were not vacuumed properly. The corners and baseboards are filthy. Does anyone clean!? My bedding smelled like sweat. Had to ask for fresh sheets n pillows. I don't think they change the sheets. Absolutely gross!! *barf* Go to Pinetop to get better rooms. Called front desk didn't seem concerned no extra blankets in the room. Probably the worst "hotel" experience I've had since I became an adult, and I put "hotel" in quotes because this place barely qualifies. It certainly is not a resort by any stretch of the imagination. The entire building -- casino, restaurant, lobby, and rooms -- smells like cigarette smoke. The first thing I did after walking in my room was make coffee, not to drink because I was afraid the pot was dirty, but to improve the smell. There was an old, plastic container of something brown in the mini-fridge, and it was not otherwise clean. The service was friendly but lacking. When I asked the restaurant for a bottle of water, they sent me to the gas station next door. Likewise at the front desk. There are drunk people everywhere, so even though the gas station is only a short walk through the casino and across the parking lot, I still didn't feel safe. I traveled here for work and because I had a meeting the next day at the hotel. The neighboring towns are super cute, and the landscape is breathtaking. By all means, spend your weekend in Pinetop to escape the miserable Phoenix heat, but stay someplace besides Hon-Dah. There are dozens of cute little cabins along the side of the highway, and they're probably far less expensive than the $120-a-night rate Hon-Dah charges. My fam and I didn't stay at the resort but we frequented the casino more then a couple times this weekend. Haha! Winner winner chicken dinner! We had more then a little fun as well. I am pretty sure that if you had seen us playing the Hangover slot machine you would have thought we were drunk or out of our minds. Drunk on orange soda and yes out of our minds for sure! We had a blast, off in the corn by ourselves. And these slot machines we found were the new kind that had the speakers in the seats and four games in one.... its hard to explain, but they were loud, made us loud and were fun. Must find one of these games in the valley pronto! Hon-Dah is fun, because it's never too busy, lots of slots to choose from, and even a nonsmoking slot room if you choose. read more

My stay at Hon-Dah was truly awful. I needed a place to during a recent fishing trip to Big Lake. It was inexpensive and completely empty, so it seemed like the best option. I think I quickly realized why it was empty; the rooms were musty and smelled like carpet cleaner and mold. There were very few outlets in the room to charge your phone or other electronics and absolutely none by the bedside (which doesn't make any sense, since most people want their phones nearby at bedtime.) Fixtures, furniture, appliances, absolutely everything was outdated and in need of a major renovation. However, none of these things were nearly as important than leaving my business phone on a charger in the back corner of the room (remember, there are almost no visible outlets). When I finally realized I left my phone behind (2 days later) I called the resort and asked them to ship it. I explained that I would pay for the shipping but needed the phone as soon as possible. Whomever I spoke with seemed to be off-put by the request and kept putting me on hold while they spoke to their colleagues. When he finally agreed to ship my phone, after a lot of hemming and hawing, I provided my address and contact information and asked him as politely as I could to put the phone in the mail on Monday. He assured me he would; fast forward 10 days later, NO PHONE. I've been calling the resort repeatedly for the past 5 days only to get a recording that they've shut down operations due to COVID. I guess the have no further obligation to their patrons during the pandemic. I think this place is socially irresponsible, neglectful, dirty, and poorly run. read more

Cool place, totally laid back and chill. There are only two black jack tables in a separate room and you can't smoke in that room. They have the absolute worst dealer I've ever had. His name is Philippe...never have I had a dealer with such a bad attitude. I left the table up...so it wasn't that I lost money...this guy was rude, inconsiderate, not willing to help at all, clearly someone who needs to feel power, even if it is in his pathetic little job as a black jack dealer. I know the tribe hasn't been doing the greatest financially for years now. So I'll try to keep that in mind when writing this review. I wasn't too crazy about the food at the restaurant- the dinner roll that came with my steak was hard/stale. I'd like to see homemade ones. I also wasn't too crazy about the hotel room my mother and I stayed in. My suggestion is to give the hotel more TLC because I think it has so much potential. At least update the bedding. The shower looked really nice so I'm hoping they are in the process of upgrading the place. I look forward to seeing improvements. read more

Best place in the area! Big spacious rooms newly renovated bathrooms. The showers are beautiful and modern. The entrance is very beautiful as well, it fits the area very well. The casino itself on the other hand is not so great. The casino is very small, not too many card tables. There was a room in the back of the casino with some older slots, it was really creepy because there was maybe one person in there and it was completely silent. But the rooms are very nice and I would most likely recommend this place to anyone who is looking to stay in the area. read more

THIS PLACE IS TRASH!! You are wasting your time if you stay here. I actually thought I might not have survived my stay here. I came into my room.... dead lizards on the floors, hair balls under the table, dead spiders, dirty black baseboards and bed frames, and a nasty chemical smell that gave me a headache. The beds sheets were old and tattered, like they haven't been changed since world war 2. The pillows are faded and floors filthy. Red stains on the floor.... I was so unpleased that I went to the local Walmart and bought a cot, sleeping bag, and pillow and slept on that during the time I was here. I walked by an open garage and saw employees cleaning the forks and knives with fly infested water that looked like it had been sitting since before the dishwasher was invented. I didn't eat anything that was made by this place. I would have rather stayed in the woods than come to this place. I didn't bother going into the casino because it smelt like my great grandfather's rank ashtray. And to put the cherry on top, there is not a single chili's within 30 miles away. No chipotle, no chick fil a. Go home, don't waste your time in this place. read more

BEWARE ! This place is a total SCAM. The food in the restaurant is terrible, got the blacken Salmon, it had so much Cyan pepper on it I could not eat it. Sent it back and the second one was just as bad. They did only have one black Jack table open in a very small little room and switched between the same two dealers about every ten minutes. No poker tables open at all. Tried to get money from the ATM machines but it would not allow me to get money out of the machine, They have the ATM machines rigged to make you go to the cashier cage where they want to charge you 14 % of what ever you try to withdraw from your account. I tried 4 times and never received any money before I figured it out (they don't tell you you can not withdraw cash from the machine) but my bank still charged me $2.50 for every time I tried. The casino ripped me off $50 on one there slot machines. I put $50 in the machine and got $10 credit. I waited for the attendant to come look at the machine. He ran a check on the machine and said it wasn't me who put the $50 in he said it was someone before. They pulled the box out of the machine took it back to where I could not see them came back and said there was no $50 bill in the machine. I said OK what about the guy before me who you said put the $50 in where did his $50 go. They had no response. The GM came and I told her to go review the tapes. She did and came back and told the pictures were fuzzy and that I did not put the money in the machine. We were asked to leave. I am writing a letter to the Gaming Commission. I really enjoyed my stay. Many great things about this place, but a few areas with some room for improvement. Biggest complaint was receiving bad/false info from the reservation phone line - perhaps in an attempt to milk me for xtra cash. (more on that later) The good: Miranda in the players club deserves special recognition for really going above and beyond to help me plan my trip to the ski resort and back home. Found out all sorts of info for me and cleared up some confusion with the shuttle bus and reserved me a space. She was practically a concierge for me! Made this stay 5 stars, instead of 3 or 4. The food was good. I had pizza at the grill which was decent. The breakfast buffet was very yummy and well priced. Probably had the best glass of OJ in my life here. Lots of sliced fresh fruit, eggs, bacon/sausage, pasteries and cereal etc. Service was friendly. The room was nice and decently clean. Great falling rain type shower (but no tub). I did run into an old sock behind the head board and one lamp did not turn on. House keeping/maintenance only gets 3 stars. Casino is small but slots seemed decently loose. Video poker played decently. Their video black jack dealer is a rip off though.Never seen dealer hit BJ so many times in my life. I didn't try any table games. Pool area was nice and the jacuzzi great after a long day on the slopes. Too many unattended children though. Adults should be required to supervise kids under 16. Like many casinos there are some scum bags milling about. Stepped away from a machine for less than a minute with 20 bux credit left on it and in less than 60 seconds someone did me the " favor"of cashing out my ticket. Security was indifferent when I informed them and made no effort to review video footage to get the scum bag out of the building. Biggest complaint is that the girl taking phone reservations told me I couldn't get on the ski shuttle unless I purchased a MINIMUM of a 2 day ski/room package. I told her I only needed 1 day/night and she claimed there was absolutely NO WAY I'd be allowed on the shuttle, even if I was staying at the hotel the preceding evening and bought a lift ticket from them. Miranda later corrected this for me and ensured I would have a seat on the shuttle, but it was frustrating and I did not appreciate the misleading info on the phone. I have to wonder how many people have been forced into a 2 day package due to this practice. read more

My husband and son liked the prime rib. And thats about the only good thing I have to say about the restaurant. The buffet cost $19.95 per person, which would be reasonable if there were plenty items to choose from. But there was not. I dont eat prime rib so I choose pork chops. Yuck. I think they were steamed. No flavor and so tough that I think my own boots were easier to chew. For veggies they had yams, baked potatoes and corn. Not a whole lot of variety there either. For dessert they had a bunch of pie pieces siting on a table. Not in a cooler or even behind a sneeze guard. I found 2 pieces of layered cake and opted to try one of those. It was so dry I could barely swallow. The service was pathetic. The hostess led us to a table, dumped the menus on the corner of the table and walked off without so much as looking at us. Our waitress was rarely to be found for drink refills or napkins. And even before we got to the dessert she dropped our ticket at the table. Like she couldnt get us out of there fast enough. The waitresses seemed to busy standing around in groups gossiping to actually do their jobs. After we left we didnt even make it an hour before dinner decided it would no longer agree with us. Noticed very effective supervision of unsmiling wait staff. Two stars, only full service hotel in area. We had the Buffett , I was ok. It was $14. Most of it was Mexican, they had a roast pork, but none of the sides that would regularly accompany Pork. They need to review the Buffett menu. The casino is on the small side, but we had fun at the slots, a decent meal. Left satisfied.
