Like most people who own older cars, I anticipate that it's going to break down and need some repair every now and again. Unfortunately, I don't have a way to anticipate when said need for repair will arise. Thus, I'm panicked when suddenly something leaks, breaks or makes the car inoperable. At Honest 1, I was able to get my car in without an appointment. They also offered to call a tow truck for my car if I needed. During the process, I spoke to the same person Start to finish. He was available for my questions and he charged about what I believe is typical for the industry. There was one drawback. The up-sale. They got me to buy some wiperblades, but when they offered to change out my exhaust- leaking catalytic converter for $800 to $900, lest carbon monoxide poisoning sneak into the car, I had to draw the line. But overall, as someone who would prefer a root canal to taking my car into the shop, I have to say that the service was good. And my car works. Until it spontaneously won't. read more

Took my car in for a fluid leak. was told there was a number of leaks. Was told to replace the water pump because that was leaking the cost was one thousand dollars.To see if that was the problem.I told the service adviser a numbers of times that I did not want to put a lot of money in to this car.They did things on my car with out my ok and took my car on a joy ride and use a quart tank of gas.When I went to pick up the car the bill was twice the amount I agree on .Would not tell anybody to go here. I have been here several times. They have failed a couple of times, and the prices and add-ons are outrageous. I have spent over $15K here in the last 2 years. I am not going back there again. While I like the guys there, they gouge my wallet big time. I went in for a noise in the front end. I needed wiper blades and wanted them to check why my turbo gauge was not working, the mirror and rear defrosters were not working well, and my intermittent wipers did not work "intermittently". I also had a TPMS sensor failure on the left rear, which I knew about but never mentioned until they called and told me. I already knew, so no need for a replacement, as I plan to get new tires in the summer with new sensors. So for each one of those things, they wanted a $160 diagnosis fee at the end. 5 diagnostic fees totaling over $ 700. WHAT?! After my surprise and anger, they cut the diagnosis fees to 1/2 hour each and removed the TPMS sensor one. Woot Woot! I ended up with a total or $330 in diagnosis fees. Still too much as I knew about all of these things and they needed NO diagnosis, except maybe the wipers and Turbo Gauge. However, the gauge was working and evidenced by them starting the truck and revving it up. Must have been the -21 degrees that caused it that day. But $80 for that. The wiper intermittency was a setting on the dash for a rain sensor. I must have changed it at some point not knowing. $80? Brake inspections and front suspension inspections are usually free. I used to manage and work at Firestone and Tires Plus auto centers. Another $80? The used a Thermal camera to check defrosters. Mirrors were working and rear was 1/2 working. Cold weather again? No quotes or repairs, just $80 again. I guess they actually did something here. OK. I had told them the noise (humming) was likely a Caliper sticking. It was. They said both were sticking. Not likely, but possible. They were not very old. You should always do brakes and other things in the front end in pairs. They could have just said that, and I would have agreed. Brake jobs in my experience were about $500 per axel, which did not include calipers. I am sure more like $600 now. Calipers will add about $300 for the pair. Yeah, I am thinking $800. Nope $1300! They also did a brake fluid exchange instead of just bleeding the new calipers and adding a few ounces of fluid. $215.00, which is already part of the 1300. This normally would mean exchanging all fluid in all lines and all calipers, including the master cylinder. NOPE. rears were not touched. So I am guessing a manual bleed and an ounce or 2 of fluid. Not very happy VIP customer here. I would have paid $1100 for all this, but Not $1724..56! So, in my mind, it should have been about $1000 for the brake job in total, $30 for Wiper Blades (they charged me $47 - OK I guess), and maybe a total 0f $80 for inspections/diagnosis. Maybe $100. Labor of $857, Parts of $758, plus a $38.20 Shop Supplies fee (kind of a standard, but $38 - really, guys?) - add taxes and you get the $1724. This is about a 4-hour job in my mind. been around this stuff all my life. $210/hour labor? I know the parts were under $400, their cost as well. Likely $300. I did approve a $1300 quote over the phone. WOW. 1724? Be careful guys. Very pricy here and Honest should not be in their name. read more

The WiFi was down trying to check out which is ok. But I'm at the register and they are still going through my engine and telling me how "oh just making sure we don't need to do anything else today." Not a chance I wasn't letting them do anything anyways. I asked before my oil change how much it would be he told me $75 before the $10 off so it would be $65 then I go in to pay and he charged me $85. I asked him what the hell was that? And he made up some bullshit at the desk so I got stuck paying $85 for a f*cking oil change.... Literally go anywhere else if that's all you need. Don't recommend at all. read more

My extended warranty company referred me to this shop when my air conditioning stopped working. They wanted me to authorize $175 in additional diagnostics. They were very adamant that the problem could not be diagnosed with out it. I decided to go to the dealership. They charged my $50 for this plus "shop's fees" When I picked up my car some yellow fluid has been spilled on my hood. (See photo) I took the car to the Luther dealership. In less then an hour Luther had the car diagnosed and was authorised by the extended service company to repair as a covered item. Either Honest Auto is not honest or they are incompetent. Have had 3 bad experiences here. Enough is enough. 1. Saturn Vue very low miles (46k) told them to do synthetic oil change (gold oil) which it was very clean and light colored when I brought it in, still changed at 3k instead of 5k. Drove home and the car is leaking! Hmm, I investigate and it seems the drain plug wasn't tightened enough. No problem, I pull dipstick to check how much fluid I lost and I find dark regular looking oil! I paid $70 for a full synthetic oil change and they jipped me. Also recommended service on my brakes for $800, which I had just done for $250 elsewhere.. and a water pump, timing belt, and radiator change because they were over 10 yrs old but NO way it should cost $2k for that. Took it to neighboring mechanic who did it for $600. 2. Took the 1964 Impala there for just a regular oil change, mind you I made an appointment, I said I would wait. They said it would be 45 minutes. Well, it ended up being 3hrs. 3. Took the 2010 Civic there (again, low miles ~36k) and told them to do synthetic oil change because I had a coupon. Well, they did it and again, it leaked! I go to tighten it and holy buckets, they stripped it! I've had enough and will no longer take advantage of the coupons that come in the mail. We have used Honest -1 Auto Care for maintenance of both our 2017 Camery Hybrid and 2010 Honda Accord. Both of these care have lower mileage and have not had major issues. Every time we have used Honest -1 Auto Care they have been straight forward, talked about what has to be done and what options are available. They were pleasent when we opted to buy our tires from somewhere else. All of their repairs and maintenance have been done with the highest quality and have lasted. I sat and listened to the service writers lie and lie especially to women while seated in the lobby. I brought this up to the manager at the time. He didn't seem to be to concerned. Do you know how you sometimes get a little worried what mechanics might be doing to your car or even if they will be honest at all? This place is why people have those fears. I had a brake job done there before departing on a trip for Iowa. I thought that since the place looked clean and professional, it would be a safe bet for getting a brake job. I learned a life lesson from my presumptions. It all started when my brakes stopped working on Interstate 80 traveling 70+ mph. Fortunately, I knew the rules of dropping my car into lower gears and allowing it to roll to a stop on the shoulder. I phoned the shop in New Hope and actually got a return call from the manager. He said that I needed to get my car towed and repaired at some related shop. I couldn't find one on my phone, and he couldn't help me with that either. He said then to just get it towed "somewhere," and I would be reimbursed. I trusted him. This, too, would be a life lesson. I had it towed and repaired in a nearby town. The mechanic there said that the shop in New Hope did an awful job. Wait. No, he said they did a shitty job. I couldn't agree more. Upon my return to Minnesota, I stopped by the shop for a reimbursement check, which one off the manager's inept mechanics said I would not be getting. I asked why. He couldn't give me an answer, so he disappeared into the shop and returned to say that it was because I didn't get it repaired in a related shop, the one that neither he nor I could find on our phones. When I asked to speak to the manager, the mechanic said I couldn't. He was hiding. After I made a rather aggressive phone call, the manager agreed to pay for a large chunk of the cost, not all of it. With the stressors I already was having at this time in my life, I chose to take it. Looking back, I regret not taking the "Honest" manager to court. I want to say for anyone who has followed my story to this conclusion that nothing is presented out of context. There are no lies. Nothing is misrepresented. It is as it reads. I will also say that a friend of mine had thousands of dollars in repairs done at this shop only to find that the issue was a relatively inexpensive fix found at an actual honest shop in the area. I warned her, but in life, you need to learn your own lessons. *I was told on my first call that I would be COMPLETELY reimbursed. I was never given an 800 number. When the shop called in response to my review, they said that the current manager was the manager of the shop when this happened. I was there once and I'll NEVER go back!! All I wanted was a simple oil change,( which I got), but I was told that my ball bearings and tie rods were bad! I told he guy not to touch them and I'll do to the dealer cause my cars still under warranty. He told me it wasn't and the warranty had expired. I said how do you know, he said I just do. Their Prices are ridiculously high and from a previous experience they charge exorbitant amounts to diagnose issues even in cases where the issue is obvious. Make sure they input the CORRECT information for your car, because they reported the wrong info on mine to Carfax and now refuse to take any responsibility for it. My car has a potential Odometer rollback indicated in the report. Because the vehicle had an oil change on 10/31/2013 at Fast Track Oil Change, mileage listed at 23,627, the vehicle is six months oid this point. Eighteen days later another oil change 11/18/2013 at Honest-1 mileage listed at 93,584 and also work done to a six month old car. That would mean the car was driven 69,957 miles in 18 days. One again 05/12/19 Hoest-1 listed an oil change and mileage at 97,074. Two months later another oil change at Valvoline 7/14/2014 mileage listed at 43,509. It should be obvious that the wrong vin number was keyed in at Honest-1. I don't beleive the car was ever even serviced there. I contacted Honest-1 all they will admit to is they can't even say the car was ever there. Send all this and an email from the Honest-1 manager saying he could not find a record of the car. I filed case with carfax, after trying to get the manager to put in writing that it had to be a mistake. He wouldn't admit to anything. First, they fixed slow oil leak, but forgot to put a piece back - oil leaked all over, loud rumbling noise, then car stopped, all lights on the car came on!! - they towed my car back and fixed the issue, but no apology - the guy said "We cleaned it up for you no charge, you are ready to go" - it would have been "I apologize for inconvenience" first, right? Several months later, I took back my car for an oil change (had free oil change coupon), they disconnected battery by accident, car did not start. Again, they denied - no apology. Enough... An hour and 49 minutes later I was called and told they were done plus they recommended a few other things be done. I declined. Picked up car. Oil light still indicated need oil. Got home. No sign they rotated tires, fill fluids. I called and told someone there that most of the work was not done. He asked me if I asked specifically for certain things to be done. Irregardless of what was on the coupon. I said I did on the form I was required to fill out. It said rotate tires right about where the managers was supposed to sign. This autoshop took over after my mechanic retired/the owner sold the shop. Needing my car winterized for our fun Minnesota winters, I took my car in hoping that it would be a great replacement for New Hope Automotive. What I got instead was a giant scam. I understand the stereotype - that most women know nothing about cars. I unfortunately consider myself to be included in this. HOWEVER, does that mean you can take advantage of that fact and try to scam me into getting an EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE, ENTIRELY UNNECESSARY REPAIR TO MY CAR?! How do I know this is unnecessary? Well, I said I didn't know anything about cars, I didn't say anything about being stupid. After getting a concerned talk about how necessary and vital this repair is, I still decided to get a second opinion. Actually, try TWO second opinions, since I was SO SHOCKED after the first said: "Your car is fine, I don't see anything that would warrant a $6** repair on it." Wow. Just wow. So, I went and got another opinion, just to be completely sure. SAME RESPONSE. As a side note, I should mention that during this time, I received calls and emails from Honest-1 Auto Care reminding me about the "importance of getting my car fixed". Sure, the waiting area is nice, clean, whatever...but give me a dingy dark dirty place with a black and white tv if it means an ACTUAL honest mechanic. Before buying an used car, I took the car here for an inspection. They completed the inspection and did not find the transmission slip (they didn't even drive the car as part of this inspection), missed the engine oil leak (which I later came to know needed an engine rebuild) and a front wheel axle issue (that I had to replace paying $1000 the week after I bought the car). Overall, the car which was a lemon passed their inspection with flying colors. Due to their report, I bought the used car and had to get rid of the car in 6 months at a loss of close to $3000. I'm sorry, but after several trips here, I had to write a review. I have taken a few vehicles to Honest-1. Their prices are ridiculous and instead of mapping out other options and/or giving their personal feedback on what THEY would do, or less expensive options - they use scare tactics, tell you that your car is basically going to explode, and basically make you feel like you are being scammed. My last trip there was for my Chevy Impala (2007). I had taken it there because my air was out and had a feeling it was the compressor. Additionally, my power steering was not working properly. When they did the diagnostic, they came back at me with $3700 worth of repairs. I paid $3850 for the car! They also told me the drive belt needed replacing. After taking my car to another mechanic, I was told that was not true at all - the belt was fine. Never once was I given any feedback on what was going on inside my car - since I'm not car saavy, it's always nice to be talked to in an educational way - help me understand what you are doing under that hood, rather than patronizing me. I took my car to another mechanic and while they said that the best repair for my car WOULD be a new compressor kit, he would not recommend it, because the price was insane. Instead, he told me to put in a used compressor, and flush and recharge the system.....then, to sell the car. He could not warranty the compressor, but it was significantly less money and would fix my air problem. My compressor, power steering pump, a new headlight, and an old change, plus labor, came to $840. They put the headlight in for free - just the cost of the light. After two bad experiences here, I will not take my car here again, because every time I do, I panic, have anxiety, and feel like I am being robbed and/or scammed. read more

Came in there with a flat tire hoping to get it patched. No dice they said since it's an all wheel drive sold us on four tires. It's completely our fault that we were in a hurry and it was at night and we had a kid with us but we reluctantly in stupidly agreed to the price of these four tires which came to just about$1,200 installed and balanced. The next day I checked around and could have saved myself $600. They also diagnosed some problems including steering fluid pump hose. Noticed we were having issues with the power steering even more so after our visit. We decided to not have them service the hose and look around as they quoted us$500 to replace it. However the next day, I checked our fluid reservoir which was bone dry. I'm nearly certain they never added any fluid. Why did they send us off with a empty power steering fluid reservoir? I had my car's brakes done there. Within a week, they went out while traveling 70 mph on I-80. I called them while on the side of the road waiting for the tow truck and said that there wasn't a shop that I could find in the area that their guarantee covered. The shop owner said to have it towed anywhere, and I would be reimbursed. When I returned to the shop for a refund, they said that they found a shop that would have been covered under their guarantee within tow range. I wasn't told this on the side of the road, and I had no way of locating such a place even off my smartphone. In the end, they reimbursed only part of it. Brought my vehicle to them 2 weeks ago. Had the spark plugs replaced. The charges were in range of the other quotes that I had. Immediately after that was done, I noticed performance issues. Had cylinders that were missing and gas mileage dropped by 5 mpg. Brought it back and explained to them EXACTLY how and when I was seeing the "missing". It occurred mostly when I had the vehicle in cruise control and engaged the acceleration feature in cruise. The service manager didn't explain to the mechanic all of those details, only that it was missing. The mechanic came back after 30 minutes of test driving, nothing wrong, no codes. I then took him out for another 30 minutes, showed him exactly what was happening. He then had to go out again, hook up the computer, and took another 45 minutes. Then he got the codes, missing on 3 cylinders. Replacement, 3 ignition coils and Plenum gasket, labor, $880.00. Asked them how much I owed them at this point, lucky me that I had a $20.00 coupon. Paid them $116.00 for the diagnosis and left. My issues with Honest-1: 1- Poor communication with myself, listening to me describing the issues to them, then communicating that to the mechanic. Better yet, ask the customer if you'd like to go out with the mechanic during the test drive. This way we can show exactly what and how it is happening. Could have saved all of us a lot of time that morning. 2- Then paying $116.00 for diagnosis that took 2 hours!!! 3- They replaced my plugs 2 weeks earlier. Fords are notorious for having ignition coil issues after the plugs have been replaced. This was not mentioned it could be a concern especially when the coils have 100k+ miles on them. This garage is very proficient and trying to "up-sell" you all the time on other services that you need to consider. It would have been nice if this would have been mentioned. Anything but honest! I received a coupon in the mail for a discounted oil change, so I visited their location in New Hope, MN. Upon completion of the oil change, their employee reviewed with me their comprehensive checklist of my car. He said my car needed service on the transmission, specifically changing the transmission fluid, because it was quite dirty. This was a complete falsehood, because I had the transmission fluid changed the week before, at the Ford dealership.
