I had been taking my 1990 Geo Prizm to Honest 1 Auto on 82nd Avenue near Duke Street for over ten years. When the car didn't start on March 13, I had it towed there. They called the next day and said I needed a new fuel pump. But when they installed a new fuel pump, the car still would not start. After more labor, they diagnosed the problem as low compression -a blown engine. They billed me $689 for parts and labor and I paid promptly, though it felt rough. Nearly 700 bucks just to learn my car was dead. But I figured, hey, not their fault. And I wanted to honor our longstanding relationship. I see that a bit differently now, in light of what unfolded next. I found another car to buy, a 2008 Honda Civic, and I drove it to Honest 1 for an inspection on April 14. The inspection cost $175, and the biggest problem they found was a burned out tail light. On the basis of that thumbs-up report, I bought the car. A week or so into driving it, I noticed a disturbing scraping sound, like metal on metal. I ignored it for some days, thinking it couldn't be anything serious since I'd just gotten the car inspected. But it was unsettling, so I took the car back to Honest 1 on May 8 to have them check it out, still figuring it was probably no big deal. Turns out I had no front brakes. What I was hearing WAS metal grinding on metal. Yet their inspection, barely over three weeks earlier, had evaluated my brakes as having 50% of their padding. I felt that since I had bought the car and negotiated the price I paid on the basis of that faulty information, they should fix my brakes for free. The manager on duty confirmed, on the shop computer, that their inspection report had specified 50% of brake padding left. Tony, the owner, was out of town. The manager called Tony, who told him to give me a $50 discount. I thought this was woefully inadequate. I wound up paying $324 for the brake job, which was completed the next day, a Saturday. I went back there on Monday to talk to Tony directly. He would not budge. He had given me a $50 discount and he said he could do no more. He stated emphatically that he would not "give away the store." He stated, "You would have had to get the brakes done anyway." I pointed out that I'd have offered less money for the car, had I not been given bad information by his shop's inspection. He ignored this, and then actually had the nerve to ask me how far I'd driven the car! I said, "Would you like to look at the odometer?" (I'd driven it about 200 miles.) He said, "No, that's not a big deal." I said that at the very least, he should refund me the $175 inspection fee. He responded briskly that of all the many items on the inspection, the guy had "only got one thing wrong" and he certainly would not refund that fee. He actually began yelling somewhat aggressively about it, and then I said, "Tony, why are you yelling at me?" and he calmed down. He finally offered to "cover my next oil change" but I told him that would not be adequate. His shop's mistake had endangered my safety and cost me hundreds of dollars. So, basically, Tony stonewalled me. My relationship with Tony and his shop is over. I have also since done a bit of Web research on the expensive misdiagnosis of my old car. The verdict seems to be that while they likely did not overcharge me for parts and labor, their diagnostic sequencing apparently involved some level of incompetence and it wasn't entirely fair to stick me with that bill either. So-just saying. But the main thing is, after more than ten years of receiving my business, Tony chose to ignore my obviously legitimate point about what his shop's incorrect inspection had cost me. This leaves me very angry. After more than a decade of good business from me, Tony chose not to stand behind his shop's work. Instead, he chose to deny responsibility for what happened, and to discredit my entire perspective. I left feeling a little bit bullied. I had my brakes done here last year. Actually it was the location that burned down on stark. I am 32 years old and I have never had "warped brake pads" in my life. About 6 months later after getting my brakes done at honest 1 I noticed my steering wheel/car would start shaking when I would brake going over 50 mph or more on the highway. I called them up and they said it sounds like my brake pads were warped... which then I would have to Pay to get fixed..... so yeah to me, that is unsafe and really whack. You guys put bad brake pads on my car but I have to pay more? Lame. THEN! My partner decided to take his car in for brakes (I wish I knew he was taking it to honest 1 because I would have warned him. ) and within months his brakes started making a grinding noise every-time he brakes. He took his car back in and they did "fix" his brakes for free but the problem is still there. So now we both have to go to a different shop. And spend all this money to get our cars to a point where they feel safe. If you're reading this right now and are considering getting brakes done, I'd highly suggest you don't. I am so disgusted by the way that Tony and his associates have treated my car and myself. My 2013 Toyota Rav4 sadly, needed an engine replacement. After having it inspected by the dealership and another auto mechanic, Tony, at Honest one, gave the best price. Also, my father has had work from them and said that they were actually pretty decently honest. So, after the replaced the engine, they also said they had re-charged the air conditioner. Great! Although, it was working just fine when I dropped it off. I drove it for a couple of days and not only did the air conditioner not work, but the car was making a clunking noise every time that I turned the car on or made wide turns. I opened the hood and there were literally missing bolts and rusted parts on the "new/used engine". When I called Tony, he said that it was no problem. I could bring it by whenever and take a look. When I mentioned this to my friend, he was appalled. He didn't even tell you to stop driving the car? Because of that advice, I stopped driving it and brought it back in. I heard back from Tony, who said that the car was fixed, but the air conditioner had to be replaced for $700. I told him that I couldn't afford that right now and why was it working before and not now? I went in to pick it up and Tony and his mechanic co-worker were extremely rude. They said there was no way that they could have broken it in the engine rebuilt, but that if I didn't get it fix, and it affects the engine, it voids any responsibility for them. He said this with a smile. I am so insulted by the way that they handled this whole thing, particularly their lack of "bedside" manor. They were actually ganging up on my and saying that they couldn't explain anything to me because I was too condescending. Now, I am contacting a lawyer. The worst complaint I have is sometime Tony can be snappy and soon found out that's just how he is. Regarding their work, we, all of us have been pleased. The last time I had my car in they told me to bring it back in 2 weeks so they could make sure that they had resolved all the issues. my drivers mirror was damaged. I was told if they put a new mirror on that it would be black as they don't do paint I was offered the option of a used mirror which was not a problem, and it's paint would match my car. They ordered the wrong mirror. after bolting it on they realized that the plug did not match with my car. This meant the mirror cannot be adjusted from the inside like the other side. Instead of ordering a new/correct mirror they actually said "how often do you adjust the mirror or seat anyway?" He didn't seem to hear me and as I begin to saying excuse me louder to catch his attention he told me "learn some manners and don't just yell" if I didn't have manners I wouldn't have said excuse me for 5x times. Was not honest. Bought a 2005 Ford F150 from Eastside Auto Sales whom had the engine replaced by them and rear differential and after I bought it I heard whistle from the front of the engine. Eastside Auto Sales said to bring it to them because it was under warranty. I brought it to them and they yes it's under warranty and that they would take care of it but I would have to pay for the part not for labor because anything that was engine connected was covered through the warranty (intake manifold valve cover gasket). I looked up at the part and it was only $29.99 right down the street at Autozone at the time and no more then $40 anywhere else online/in town. Well I get there a few days later and they called and said it was ready but my bill was $201. When I got there I asked why it was so much after I showed him the parts wasn't that expensive anywhere I looked and his response was "our price is different when we get it from our distributor." Call me crazy but don't shops get a discount and are usually getting it for 30%-40% cheaper to be able to mark up there prices to get it as the price and over local and online prices? A gasket for $201 on top of them? So pretty much they charged me for partial labor and the cost of the gasket. Don't trust anyone with the name "HONEST" in there business title. read more

Rude customer service, typical "Honest" manager who mistreats customers. I came in here hoping to prove the negative reviewers wrong as a first time customer. Tony, who called me up before the appointment, warned me that my Groupon VIP Coupon for a free oil change will only work if the address to this shop is on the card (which I confirmed it was, yet he continued to blabber on about). When I come in person, he seemed very pleasant. I handed him my keys, and told him I'd be going for a jog until the car was done. 5 minutes down the jog, he calls me and tells me that the oil the car takes is 0w-20, which they do not have in conventional oil but do in synthetic (at an extra cost of $40). Are you kidding me? It's a TOYOTA CAMRY, ONE OF THE MOST COMMON CARS ON THE MARKET AND YOU DON'T HAVE THIS IN STOCK? I decline, and know that there are more than just one type of range of oil you can use, so I suggest 5w-20. He proceeds to raise his voice and irritatingly replies "youre not listening!" He says to call him back after I make up my mind as he has "customers in line". I can't believe he talks to customers like this especially in front of other customers. I call him back in a few after doing research that 5w-20 works fine. He proceeds. 5 minutes later he calls me back and says that the oil filter uses a special cartridge which will cost me $10! At this point I just say ok, do it, and proceed back to my jog. When I come to pick up the car, he proceeds to lecture me about car oils on his failed attempt to upsell me from a free oil change. Car needed to pass DEQ and the "check engine" light kept coming on. Took it to another place and said it was going to cost about $3,000 to fix. Took it to Tony on a Thursday, he was able to tell us what seemed to be the issue and how much it was going to be. That cost about $150, which sucked but he was able to give us answers that wasn't going to cost us $3k. We took it home, talked it over and decided to move forward with the fix, Tony got us in the next day. That cost us about $450, unfortunately didn't fix the entire problem. BUT, these guys went the extra mile and did some research on an extended warranty through the dealership. We followed his advice and he saved us $2,000!!! I've never been to a mechanic who's willing to take the time and do outside research rather than just telling you what's the problem and how much they want to charge you to fix it. Cars need to be maintained and it's gonna cost you. Of course you want to find the best deal possible. But to take it somewhere they are gonna go the extra mile, know what they are talking about and take the time to explain things, that's all good in my book! I used them for a major repair (front end $957) earlier this year and they were the lowest priced estimate and came through and fixed the car at that price. I've done a few other minor things since then and Tony comes across as a very honest and straight forward and WON"T sell you something you don't need. Tony is smart and has a sharp tongue so don't expect to give and not get the same back. YOU need to judge a shop by how competent they are and if they will take advantage of you. This place is defrauding people out of their money. I took my car here in an emergency and was hit with a massive bill, even though the problem was never worked on. The guy who works the phone is an eel who promises to never do work until approved, but doesnt tell you that "diagnostics" are a part of the process to get an estimate until it has already been done. Between a couple of phone calls, "repairs" had taken twenty minutes for something that should have taken hours or days. I had an amateur mechanic take a look at the problem and they immediately saw that a clip simply wasnt in all the way, yet these people charge me hundreds of dollars to replace parts that cost less than $3 combined. I am awaiting a reply back from the Better Business Bureau (which may end proving pointless) to get my money back and this is why this review is at this time vague. I just couldnt bear any longer the thought of waiting to leave a warning if there was a possibility that others following me would experience the same rip off as I have. DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE. We've gone here twice. The first time was for a headlight fix. Great service - fast, to-the-point, no extra hidden charges. Second was for a sensor to be fixed. The manager was great. Gave us the rundown on what we were looking at for the price of the fix and an approximate 3 PM finish time. Here's where it got stupid. At 3:45 (15 minutes before they close unbeknownst to us), my wife contacted the shop and asked if our car was ready. The person fielding the call rudely told us that yes, our car was finished and that he's already contacted us. The number that individual called was my phone number, not the one my wife gave when she dropped the car off. I had my phone off at work, my wife had hers on and was waiting for the call back. He then told her that if she doesn't come down to the office to pick up the car by 4:00, no one will be there. She said, "Ok, well at least wait for me. I'll leave right now, should take me 10 minutes to get there." "At 4:00 I'm leaving. I'm not waiting around for anyone," was the response. So, not only did they contact the wrong number, but we got attitude and a total lack of any understanding of the problem that this guy created. On top of that, they're closed on Sunday, so we missed a very important event that we needed the car for. On top of that, we'll be missing 3-4 hours of work to pick up the car. On top of that, we're having to call upon a friend to miss an hour of work to give us a lift over there. This whole thing was an annoyance and despite us liking the service to begin with, we're not feeling the service now. Dan, the man, helped me out of a jam. Travelling from LA to Portland the car was making a constant low but audible squeaking sound whenever the wheels were turning or the brakes applied. While trying to diagnose the problem he was constantly answering the phone. He seemed to be the only one there. I suspected the brakes as I had just changed the rotors and pads. He found and fixed the problem quickly, but refused any money. This guy is truly honest and I wholeheartedly recommend them if you need any auto repairs. read more

The diagnostics took ONE HOUR and $88 to see, that Yes, it was in need of new spark plugs. As they checked spark plugs, they broke worse than when I arrived, so I was stuck and had to go to work soon so I gave the go ahead, stupidly thinking it couldn't be TOO much more expensive. The next hour of labor for new spark plugs and fuel injection cost me $298, WITH my aaa discount. This auto service company should go out of business. read more

I paid for a pre-purchase inspection at Honest One on 82nd Avenue before purchasing a vehicle at a nearby dealer. They identified a couple items that requiring fixing, so I went back to the used car dealer to negotiate the purchase price down in order to fund those repairs. But when I took the car to the Hyundai dealer (to have an electronic key made), the dealer immediately noticed that two door actuators were broken (repair cost totaling over $500). The dealer didn't need to take the door apart or spend any time, the problem was immediately apparent to them. But Honest One completely missed the broken actuators in their pre-purchase inspection. Their inspection also missed two oil leaks and a malfunctioning sensor. To add insult to injury, they are refusing to refund the $89 price I paid for their pre-purchase inspection. They expect me to pay for both their flawed inspection and for the cost of repairs that they missed. I've had very positive experiences with Honest One on McLoughlin Blvd for several years, but I suggest you stay far away from "Honest One" on 82nd Avenue. read more

I am a regular here because they live up to their name. I used to live close by, but now I drive 15 minutes over here to get an oil change. I've been coming here for 4 years and my car runs great. Why?? I have a 1999 Toyota which needs maintenance now and then. I always talk with the SAME mechanic at the front (I think he's the manager) and he knows my car well. I ask "do I need this or that?" and he often says I don't need to do anything... how rare is that?? He'll tell me what to plan on budgeting for in the next year and such. I can't say enough good things about this place. Totally worth the drive if you don't live close by. I usually pop in and I'm done with the oil change in 20 minutes (and he doesn't try to get me to buy anything besides my oil change). I tried to go there just now and i pulled up where the oil change station was and the guy came out and started yelling at us aggressively like we don't know how to speak English, he was being really aggressive telling us to get out and we can't park here. So we moved and walked in. I was upset and I went in and apologized and said I did not know, but that's what we usually do when we go to jiffy lube and the guy was really rude saying he won't do My car even though I had an appt. Do not get your car serviced here! I was recommended to get my power steering fixed here but the auto place I bought my car. The customer service is terrible. They're rude, sexist, and unprofessional. They had to fix the same issue 3 times on my car - the only reason I kept going back is because the part was still under warranty with them. Every time, they kept my car much longer than what they told me and I had to rearrange my work schedule and picking up my kids. The last time, I had to wait to drive my car away because the owner left the premises with my key in his pocket. AAA recommended this shop because it was close to the place my car broke down due to transmission issues. When they called me, my jaw dropped to the floor at the price tag of $5,200 to replace the whole transmission. Being that I hadn't had transmission issues in well over a year, it seemed unlikely I needed a full replacement. I had it towed to my dealership and they told me it was one faulty component that was still under warranty. They fixed it in one day for free. There's nothing "Honest" about this place. I was referred to this mechanic by a wonderful dealership that I had an excellent experience with. I took my car in at 8 yesterday morning to get the speedometer fixed, which had stopped working the same day I bought the car. The dealership was to cover the cost of the repair. I was greeted by the manager Tony, who basically treated me like a dumb kid and was pressing that "someone will be billed no matter what" even though I wasn't saying anything about not paying, even if the dealership decided not to cover the repairs. As I was telling Tony about the speedometer problem, I mentioned that the -back- windows didn't roll down and thought that might be related. I told him my main focus was the speedometer and that I would come back to the windows later. Tony kept pushing us to get the windows fixed and we kept saying no. So at around 12 or 1, we call him to check on the car, and Tony tells us that the speedometer is fixed, the car will be ready by 5, and that the -drivers- window won't roll up and asked us again if we wanted to get it fixed while it was there and we said no. So we get the car back and the drivers window won't roll up, none of the other windows will roll up or down, the heater won't turn on, and the speedometer still doesn't work. The only windows with the problems were the back windows. Knowing this couldn't be right, my boyfriend (who has never worked on a car in his life) decided to look up how to fix the speedo, ac/heater, and windows. He found the fuse that was necessary to fix this which was SHORTED OUT, and replaced it that night. Everything is up and working in the car now. But I'd like to know how someone who has never worked on a car can fix this problem in an hour, and it takes a "mechanic" 9 hours to replace a fuse with a burnt out one and send the car back home with more problems than it had to begin with. I never write bad reviews, but this place really just set me off. I'm sure there are some very professional mechanics that work at Honest 1, but Tony was definitely very unprofessional. I will not be returning here, I will not be referring my friends and family here. I hope that no one else gets scammed in this way and that they're able to catch it before it happens. read more

Tony answers even the silliest of questions kindly, patiently and respectfully. When I've needed a part replaced, he has called around to get the very best deal (with options to choose from). I don't write these often but, these guys treat me so good, I need to tell others. First, I had a radiator leak and they fixed it no problem. When the radiator started leaking again, I took it to them for repair. I had completely forgotten about the first time it leaked. I was so surprised when they called me and told me it was under warranty. Second, I had my brakes replaced. Shortly after the replacement, the van developed a shake when braking. We took it back to them. Apparently, a part broke. They replaced the part for the cost of the part only. No labor charges. I assume they think they should have caught it. It is so nice to know that if there is a problem, They take care of their customers. No fight, No hassle, Only a pleasant experiences. read more

I would never in a million years recommend this auto care shop to anyone. Almost exactly a year ago the motor mounts on my Jetta broke causing the engine to push up on the transmission. I had to have the transmission replaced, the motor mounts replaced, and an axel replaced. A couple of weeks ago the motor mounts broke off and broke the bottom engine bracket off, so I took it in to have it fixed because they should be under warranty. Then Jerry tells me that we (my boyfriend and I) bottomed out the car, which we didnt, and if we say we didnt then were liars. He said there was metal pealed back, scrapes, and scratches. He even took pictures to prove it and would show us. When we got there, he had no pictures. I said fuck it and had him replace the motor mounts. Now the car stopped running and it was making a wierd noise so I looked under the car. NOT A SINGLE SCRATCH OR SCRAPE!!! To top that off, the axel they replaced broke and thats why it stopped running. Oh, I forgot to mention when they replaced the axel they didnt bolt it together and it came apart while I was driving, endangering my life. But they took it back in and bolted it back together without an apology. This isnt the only bad service we had. We had to have the heater core replaced too last year so we took it to them. They drilled a hole in the dash without ever saying anything and didnt put the cd player back in right or the lighter, just left it dangling. The heater doesnt even work right. Plus it still smells like antifreeze when you turn it on. YUM! $3000+ in repairs for what? To have to have it all replaced a year later with attitude from their "service manager". Who is rude and tries to make you feel like an idiot without listening to anything you have to say because he knows everything? Never again will we bring a car to this place. read more
