Came here for Christmas and left a little disappointed. We got to dinner around 7:30 PM & got seated right away which is good, but oh my, service was so slow! We tried to get a hold of the servers, but it was impossible to get their attention, and it wasn't that busy to be honest. When we were done with the food, it started to get SUPER busy. I feel like they are very understaffed, which is understandable. Now moving onto the food, everything was very mediocre. Nothing really stood out for me. We got four items and total was around $50. Honest is really famous in Ahmedabad, Gujarat where it originated. Each Honest is a franchise so chances that they will be consistent is very rare. Love this spot. The flavors are amazing. I've visited a lot of the Indian restaurants in this area and this one definitely stands out. Our server both times were so friendly and they do everything they can to accommodate you. We ordered a lot of dishes and appetizers. 4/5/25 update: Upon recent visit, it was clear that ownership, management and recipes have changed. New folks appear to have missed the key reason Gujarati patrons love Honest! It looks like the new chef did not learn how to authentically make Paav Bhaji and bhakri pizza from prior. Bhakri pizza crust came soft, was not cooked well and had to be sent back. Paav Bhaji tasted horrible, recipe was changed. It was yellowish, very local v. their iconic red recipe. Prices have risen and service levels dropped. The new team was running around like chicken with head cut off! Removing restaurant from favorites /- sad for honest lovers in SoCal. Being an Amdavadi, I love the Honest Pav Bhaji back home. I love the Honest in Jersey City, New Jersey as well. So of course, I had to give this one a try! Honest is renowned for its Pav bhaji and Pulao. However, the Pav bhaji does not live up to the original standards. The Pulao is great - really flavourful! We frequent here several times, but not for the Pav bhaji. Our absolute favourites are; Baahubali sandwich Cheese sev puri Bhakri Pizza The portion size is huge and the flavours are authentic! An all vegetarian restaurant with a variety of dishes. There's a different dish for every mood. Our favorite is the pav bhaji and the vada pab. From the noodles menu, we like the Hakka noodles. During our last visit we tried the Chinese bhel which wasn't as delicious as we thought would be but it still had a good taste. This Chinese bhel dish had a good flavor, spicy and had some chopped vegetables. I'm honestly puzzled by the bad reviews - this is a pretty decent spot. We went on a Saturday night and had to wait about 30 minutes for a party of 8. They were able to squeeze us in with two extra chairs, which worked out just fine for our family. Service was pretty speedy after we ordered - they were pretty busy, so the waiter forgot one of our items but did bring it out quickly after we reminded him. What we ordered: * Vada Pav - these were really tasty! * Pav Bhaji - pretty decent - though we liked the vada pav more * Gravy Manchurian - solid * Chili garlic noodles - tasty, but slightly too spicy. I think they would have been palatable if they were a bit less spicy. * Baahubali sandwich - A mistake to order since we had so many other punchy items. We were in Artesia to pick up food from Surati Farsan Mart and I saw Honest in the corner and I just HAD to eat here as it reminded me of some good times back at home. Nostalgia hit me when I saw the menu and wanted to order a lot of items. I settled for cheese bhel and baahubali sandwich. Ordered Pav Bhaji and Pulao to go, because you cannot go to Honest and not have Pav Bhaji. The cheese bhel came in a huge bowl with a heap of cheese and looked super yummy. The table behind us stopped the server to ask what I had ordered and even came over to ask me how was it!!! It was great. It needed some more sweet chutney and it was an easy fix, but the garlicky cheesy flavor was so good!! The sandwich was Ok. Not the best I have had, but again huge portions and good enough. This location of Honest relies on the strong reputation and brand the company has around the world. Sadly the name is the only thing consistent because everything else at this location is subpar. The food and service was awful. The food was either undercooked or made incorrectly. When we asked the waitress to remake what they made incorrectly she started arguing with us. Eventually she had the kitchen make it again but the food was not cooked thoroughly. Again they refused to fix the issue so we ended up paying and leaving. Went here last night during the International Festival in Artesia. The place was very busy and every patron are Indian or look South Asian except me ....so that's a good sign. They have 3 combo options at $10.99 so it's reasonable price although the quantity is just ok, not that much. All dishes are vegetarian and I ordered the combo with butter naan , spicy rice and tikka masala The tikka masala was good but the portion is Berle little. They have me 4 pieces of butter naan and I thought it was just average. The rice was good and had a good kick to it but it was cold and not hot so it was already premade. I ordered Ferrero rocher milkshake (like always) and this time they gave me HALF GLASS of milkshake with other half glass filled with whipped cream. And there was no lid at all. Have tried their New Jersey location before and so decided to give this location a try for dinner tonight. We got a bunch of different things. We got pav bhaji, vegetable cheese grill sandwich, bhakri pizza, bahubali sandwich, watermelon juice and masala chai. All of the food was good. My personal favorite was the bhakri pizza and bahubali sandwich. Service is extremely slow at this place. If you are GUJJU, you don't need any introduction to HONEST Restaurant. For vegetarian it will be like another heaven opened right in the middle of Pioneer Blvd (next to Surati Farsan). We thought of visiting this place during lunch hour on weekday, so less traffic was bit expected. We ordered their Honest Sp. Bhaji Pav which is more like a signature dish of this restaurant. I must say, it tasted same like India and this is one of the best pav bhaji you can have in Los Angles and Orange county area. As being from Gujarat, you are familiar with Honest Restaurant dishes. So we also ordered Honest Sp. Pulav, its more like a tawa pulav and it tasted the same but the experience can be made better if they serve this pulav with some raita. Indian Style Bhakri Pizza is also good, which can be described as desi pizza. Some gujju's prefer to have pizza made with Amul Cheese over Mozzarella. Manchurian dry was made in a traditional Indian style - the way people love in India and it tasted good. The only let down for us was "Bahubali Sandwich", as it arrived almost after 20 mins (when we were already full) and even the sandwich was grilled we felt that the mashed potato used was bit refrigerated cold. Literally the first person to eat here since today was their soft launch grand opening. Started with the Indian pizza. Tasty. Then had the pav bajhi which was really good. Authentic like in India. Also tried the dry Manchurian - excellent. I also had the Pulav rice. It was ok for me. Very spicy but needed some salt or something for my taste. Overall, It was spicy and flavorful. I placed a food order on 1/1/2023 at 8:51 pm for 4 Rotis, 1 kadai paneer, and 2 Szechwan fried rice. The food was extremely terrible to taste and the curry was filled with oil. I called in at 11:03 am on 1/2/23 if they could redo or refund. The person in the photo (Pratik) stated they don't do any refund or help if the food is bad. So I went in to see if I could talk with the manager and Viraj Jain (manager) wasn't in the store, so I asked to call him. Over the phone call, he mentioned they don't recook orders if it tastes bad. I was skeptical reading all the bad reviews but we were lucky to not have any of those issues. I have tried honest in Ahmedabad and it was always my go to place for Pav- Bhaji and Pulao. In the US, we have tried honest in NJ and Dallas and I was super excited when they opened in LA. When we went the first time they were not transparent about their hours of operation and it differed from yelp hours and google hours so I was really upset. That's the reason I removed one star. Having said that our visit this time was perfect. We did not have to wait for being seated and the service was good. We tried Pav Bhaji, Pulao, Hakka Noodles and Pani Puri. Everything was good but definitely hands down Pav Bhaji was the winner. It reminded me of Ahmedabad. I liked the Pualo but I did feel like it was not spot on for the spice. Hakka noodles and pani puri was decent but nothing exceptional. My friends tried the Falooda for desert and really liked it. I am looking forward to coming back and trying the Punjabi thali, Indian bhakri Pizza and maybe the vadapav. If you want to try one thing here, I would definitely strongly recommend Pav Bhaji. I do hope that with time they can establish the place a little more so more people can have a positive experience with less waiting times and better service. read more
