Since I'm not familiar with Indian cuisine this was a tasty experience and introduction to the food. Again, since I'm a newbie my fellow foodies did the ordering and the first round we had the Masala Dosa, Thali Plate and the Dahi Puri with yogurt. This was definitely a flavorful start and I really enjoyed everything. Second order was the sweets and we had the Rose Purfi, Penda and the Jalebi. All of them were so good and we did have more items but too many to name. I can honestly say I've been missing out and I'm sure glad my fellow foodies took me on this delicious journey. My family has been coming here for decades mainly to get snacks / breakfast items to-go, and only in the last couple years did we start dining in. Our favorite is the khasta kachori, since the pastry has the perfect crunchiness that complements the filling. The dahi sev puri and tacos are also definitely worth getting. We've tried a handful of other items which are generally solid, but would definitely start with those three. This time, we tried their paan cake which was just okay. The food itself was good--we ordered dahi puri, pav bhaji, bhaji quesadilla, masala dosa, and vada pav, and everything tasted solid and worked well for a quick snack. That said, the overall experience could use improvement. The floors and tables should be wiped down more frequently after customers leave, as cleanliness was noticeably lacking. The paper plates are very cheap and don't complement the quality of the food being served. Also, the staff seemed to be standing around rather than working as a team--it felt like everyone had only one task instead of pitching in where needed. I've been going to Surati Farsan Mart for decades, and it's a place I still visit from time to time, especially when my niece or mom is craving something specific. It's a vegetarian spot with a wide variety of options, including a good selection of sweets, all at reasonable prices. It's still a familiar and convenient place, but the experience isn't as consistent as before. Have been coming here for years as most Gujurati community do. But lately the quality has gone downhill. I have a box of peda that i will be throwing away because they are stale and taste like chalk ,inedible powder. There was one out of the box that was still somewhat okay. If you zoom in on the picture you will see the orange one vs all the ones losing their color. Mind it they are suppose to be Yellow Peda's not White ones. Totally dry and outdated. Surati Farsan Mart is my go-to spot for authentic Indian sweets and snacks. The Ras Malai here is so soft, creamy, and perfectly sweet - it melts in your mouth. I also tried the Motichoor Laddu, and it was amazing - rich, fresh, and full of flavor, just like homemade. I have known this place since 80's, and enjoyed their food on location and snacks ordered through mail from Texas. Unfortunately, my recent visit was not favourable. The Lunch Thali portions wetr so small that it would be not enough for my 8 year old grandson. Even worst the daal portion served in very small bowl not enough for anybody. No refill was offered. I ended up ordering more daal and again the portion was small and charged me close to $2:50. In addition, I bought some dry snacks and again the taste and quality had gone down. I am deleting Surti Farsan from my contact list - never again. Their focus is money and not quality and customer satisfaction. Been planning for months to meet a friend in Artesia and have pani puri. As it was my first time ever having pani puri my friend suggested Surati Farsan as the best place to get pani puri and other Punjabi goodies. It's her favorite place to get pani puri and she has been coming here since moving to California from India. We arrived right when they opened so it was pretty quiet. But it quickly filled up with customers. The first thing I noticed upon entering was all the Indian sweets and lots of ornate boxes stacked up. Then the salty snacks were neatly stored and so colorful. My friend ordered 2 types of pani puri, a drier version that had crispy thin noodle-like topping and one that you put your own "water" (tamarind and mint water). While both are delicious I really loved the one you put the "water" in yourself. It was like an explosion of flavor and textures. Sweet, salty, sour, crunchy, and satisfying. We also had a lentil soup with mint potato patties. While it looks simple, the flavors were like a warm hug and slightly spicy, in a good way. The icing on top was the amazing rose drink with ice cream. My friend said it was to balance the spicy meal and help with digestion. Before leaving I ordered pani puri, lentil soup for home, and a box of sweets. I was so very full but was going to make the most of my trip to Artesia. Let me just say, my food was packed beautifully and all set for the week. Service is good and efficient. They have lots of workers at the counter and it's gets busy shortly after opening. Parking is plentiful on the street (meters), public parking lot off Pioneer (meters), and a few free spots behind the grocery stores. The premiere spot for everyday Indian food! My BF is from Mumbai and took me here to try foods eaten on a typical day (rather than the rich Mughal food for special occasions). When you first walk in, it feels like you're at a specialty deli/ready made store. The smell is indescribable; sweet and spicy at the same time. I had a hankering for cheese so I got cheese samosas and the quesadilla. The cheese samosa is out of this world good! Melty cheese and crispy Samosa bread meet the zesty cilantro chutney. I could eat that everyday and be happy. The quesadilla was also melty good and the veggies were fresh. My BFs dish was bomb as well. He had this sort of vegetable curry with bread. Whenever I am in Little India town, I always like to stop by and get something to go or dine in. It has gotten more popularity over the years. The line is always long no matter when and what time you go. They have both indoor and outdoor dining. Finding a table at this establishment is frustrating until you find one. I ordered Sev Puri, Pani Puri and Makanki Fries. I also order snacks and sweets to go. I gave a 2 star rating because I never gotten my food until i went up before the closing time. I waited over an hour for my simple 3 items. What happened was the guy behind counter forgotten to put the pager number on my order. So another guy at counter apologized and refunded my bill. The bhel was really good, but the puff.... not so much. At first we didn't have our pager so we got it very late. It had been sitting around so it was cold. I asked one guy to warm it up a bit since it was cold like it had been sitting in the fridge for a couple of minutes. When I got it back, I touched it and one part was hot. Wadas were hard, yogurt sour, no salt and absolutely no flavor. 4 plates of awful Dahi wada and $30 down the drain. Khaman texture was also not soft and fluffy and not a bit of sweetness to it. My favorite place for chaat near the south bay! I come here with my mom and my friends all the time and it's always good, never disappoints and the prices are super reasonable. I've tried almost everything on the menu and I love how they always add more stuff. My go-to's are delhi chaat, bhel puri, makhani fries, falooda, and mango lassi. Surati Farsan used to be the premier spot for delicious, casual, Gujarati snack foods. My family and I used to drive up from San Diego just to dine here since the SD location shut down. On our most recent visit (after many years) we came by on a Saturday and were excited to see the restaurant packed hoping this meant the food would be as delicious as we remembered. We ordered some of our favorite items such as the Mysore Masala Dosa, Bhel, and Chole Puri. We were horrified when our food came out because of the very noticeable decline in quality. Absolutely nothing tasted as it used to and the coconut chutney accompanying the Mysore Masala Dosa had gone sour. We were so sad to drive all the way out and have essentially been served rotten food. This is another cog in the machine that has made Pioneer lackluster and a sad set of affairs. Had not been to Pioneer in a while and was really feeling for a taste and feel of home. We ordered bail puri, khandvi, chole puri, and chai. The lack of effort and flavor was so prominent. There is no blood going to this place. Relaying on legacy laurels. We had Indias are the highest earning, successful people in the States and we need to ask more of our own. Why is it we need to go to India to get the best food on the planet. What is happening in Little India that there is such a disconnect of the most complex and delicious cuisine on Earth. You have to have elaborate wedding catering or go to a super high end world renowned Resturant in the states to get some good India Chow. There was a line at 2:30 in the afternoon. We had pani puri. It is a fried bowl with lentils and potato. The bowl is semi sweet. It had tamarind and mint sauce in with the lentils and potatoes.
