Being a vegan, my initial apprehensions about a restaurant famous for its pav bhaji were soon put to rest. I was pleasantly surprised that they make separate bhaji and pav from scratch using olive oil. The manchow soup was tasty too. We also ordered a Punjabi thali which my mom thoroughly enjoyed. My wife ordered the standard 'honest special pav bhaji' which she claimed was finger lickin' good. All in all we loved this place and will visit again soon. Went there for the first time. Enjoyed the food but enjoyed the relaxed environment more than anything. Restaurant was about 80% full but every server had a smile on their face. The food was okay but they have SERIOUS cleanliness issues with their cooking staff. I went to the restroom and witnessed one of the ladies that cooks there come out of the bathroom stall with tumeric/curry stained cooking gloves on (yes, she wore her cooking gloves into the stall while using the bathroom!!!) and then proceed to wash the gloves and return to work! They need to explain to their staff that the gloves are to protect the customer and for food handling and are not to be worn into the bathroom, washed and used to handle food again. I did tell one of the other ladies that was seating people but I can't get past this so I don't plan on returning. No telling what we ate, it makes me ill just thinking about it. The ambience of the place was great. We waited about 45 minutes in a queue to get seated on a Saturday evening and were really excited to eat the yummy Bhaji Pav and Pulav that Honest is originally very famous for in Ahmedabad. We ordered Pav Bhaji, Honest Special Pulav and Special Garlic Chutney while we were there. The service was great, the servers were very polite and the food arrived fast - especially considering how busy they were, but we were honestly a little underwhelmed by the taste of the Bhaji Pav and its quantity. The Bhaji was a little mild for our palette and lacked a little salt and seasoning. It didn't quite have the punch like Honest in New Jersey or the original Honest back in Ahmedabad. The pulav lacked a little salt too, but nevertheless it was delicious. The most disappointing item was the special garlic chutney - the chutney we got hardly had any garlic in it, looked red like a sauce but had zero heat. The server was kind enough to not charge us for it. All in all it was great experience, the food was ok but I'd definitely recommend people to check it out. read more

We visited this restaurant 1st.Jan.2020 @ 7:00 p.m.and were seated @ around 8:30 p.m. as it was already crowded when we reached there.Cheese Bhaji Pav was way better then on our earlier visit when it wasnt too hot. Cheese Baked Bhakhri Pizza was O.K as the Cheese was shreeded on Pizza after it came out of the oven. I know that they serve this way in Ahmedabad, India, but, I think they need to give people an option if they want the Shreded Cheese on the pizza just like a traditional pizza.Kattapa Sandwich & Vegetable Sandwich which we had ordered Grilled, were O.K as both the sandwiches were missing Grill Indentation Mark it seemed it was just grilled on a Pan hence, it wasn't restaurant quality.. On our earlier visit it was Grilled. The Spring Dosa we had ordered was having an overwhelming quantity of Red Onions. And, since the Onions release moisture, the dosa was not even worthy of any rating. The Sambhar served with the Dosa was Spot On and as good as the ones served @ Shivsagar & Balaji Bhavan Restaurant in Houston. In fact, just having a spoonful of Sambhar in my mouth, I was kind of taken down memory lane & felt as if I was enjoying the same in a South Indian Restaurants in Sion & Matunga, Mumbai.The plating of the Dosa was good but, I dont understand the concept of serving Coconut Chutney & Red Chutney in a disposable container. Both the Chutneys were good, but, the Coconut Chutney was not tempered with Mustard seeds + Urad Daal + Curry Leaves,Since Coconut Chutney is an Integral Part of a Dosa Platter, I personally think that it was incomplete as I have never ever seen a restaurant serve Coconut Chutney with out tempering in the 55+ years of my existence on this planet.Mango Lassi was Good but, when I ordered Filter Coffee , the person attending our table told that as they dont have time to boil milk, he cannot get us a Coffee. So I told him to bring me a Black Filter Coffee. Eventually, I did get a cup of Filter Coffee with boiled Milk. I felt as if I was dissuaded when I ordered a cup of Coffee.On our earlier visit on Nov.24th., when the wait person came with our tab he asked us to give his tip in CASH.The only logical explanation behind this could be A: the wait person is greedy, or) B : the wait person is not getting his share of Tip Disbursement from the management. But he was polite & I could also sense a bit of embarrasement hence I got a vibe that he was not greedy.Since this place is representing an Iconic Name like Honest which is popular in Ahmedabad,India since the 80's, they need to have a set directive as far as Menu items are concerned, so that, whether the dish is executed by Tom,Dick or ) Harry, it tastes the same for a customer all the time. If they wont get their act together, then they will be Detracting Discerning Customers with Good Palate. I was here today and it was one of the place I use to go in India, expected to be good but the service was bad. My friend had hair in his plate underneath pav and they didn't even changed it or gave another pav bhaji. They just made the billl by saying sorry which doesn't cut it. Horrible food. After 8 months I did a take out. Did a catering order for family and friends. Ordered samosas, chilli panneer and Hakka noodles on oct 10. Sanjay the restaurant mgr said the order is ready by 6.30 pm but we went at 7.30 pm. Later at 8.15 pm 2 kids ate Hakka noodles it was fine but when we all started eating at 9 pm the noodles were spoiled. It was ridiculous how can they be spoiled if they were made fresh? The Samosas abd chilli panner were ok and tasted ok not great. I told the manager I'm ordering after 8 months he promised the food quality will be good. What a dishonest restaurant. When I complained next day he did not even care. I will not recommend this to any one. And they charged me freaking 165$ just for 20 samosas and half tray each. I cooked all the food for the gathering but because my son loves Samosas, panner n noodles ordered them and it turned out to be a disaster. read more

Bad food. The vadas in Dahi vada were hard. Paid $7 for two of those pieces which were so hard in certain parts that I had to spit it out. Seemed like they microwaved some frozen vadas which caused chucks of it to harden. The potatoes and chana in bhel were stale and you could tell that they were kept in refrigerator for days before they served us. The samosa chaat was cold. Usually the samosas and chhole in the samosa chat would be warm and all the other ingredients like chutney would be cold. Could smell the stale ginger garlic in chana as if they were kept in refrigerator for days before serving us. We understand that you may not have enough clients during Covid, however you are charging full price, probably more than regular price for stale food. One of the most important aspect of chaat is that you have to use fresh ingredients or it won't taste good. Money wasted and evening spoilt. We pay you tip for carry out food just so we can support your business and that's what we get in return. What a showdown! read more

I usually don't post negative reviews for any place since I was once a restaurant owner and understand how the business operates but today I am compelled to write a review for Honest since the hype is not real. We have been here a few times and service has never been good overall but still we haven't complained. Today, we went during lunch and the place was not busy at all, we order our food and waited, my husbands food came out in a timely manner, he ate and finished while I was still waiting for my food. After asking whats going on, we didn't get any response except give us a few more minutes. Even after waiting no response so again we had to ask and request to pack up the order to go. After all that, still my food never made it and since we were there during lunch we had to leave. Sadly, I didn't have any lunch so had to opt for Taco Bell. Talking to the owner didn't make a difference, his answer was, I just got here and I don't know anything. They really need to work on customer service and communication amongst the staff itself. I lived in India for 3 months so wanted to check out this trending restaurant. So I went on Yelp to leave a good review of Honest and happened to see Amey B's review. My wife and I were there on Sat, July 13th when Amy B describes what is happening. It is not accurate. First of all, they are busy because it is a great reaturant! We were told the wait was 1 hour and we were fine with that. Every person that walks in has the option of leaving if they dont like the wait time. If I had pregnant women in my group, as Amy B states he did, I would not jeopardize their health by making them stand for 1 hour +. Poor judgment. Secondly, if someone has made a reservation then they are entitled to that reservation. As Amy B's pic shows, he was part of a group of 12 trying to be seated, without a reservation, on a Saturday night. As all frequent restaurant goers know, large groups take time. Make Reservations! Obviously others had. We saw the staff trying to accomodate all the customers and doing their best. Amy B's review states that the staff tried to offer them food. It also calls the large party present 'inconsiderate living creatures whom we will have to call as humans'. Getting real personal is uncalled for. Not sure how that is rational or balanced for a Yelp review. Lol. BTW My wife and I have returned to Honest again and the food and service is excellent! read more
