My friends and I tried the lu rou fan (braised pork over rice) at Honey D today and it wasn't bad! I personally prefer Hometown's version of this same dish, but the portions and flavors satisfied my cravings. I will say I wish there was more greens and the pickled mustard greens (suan cai), but that's personal preference. I did see options to add extra toppings for more $$, but I think this place is already pretty pricey at about $15 for one plate. Also the egg is marinated and has a soft/jelly-like consistency for the yolk, which I personally don't prefer, but it was still good along with the rest of the dish. I got popcorn chicken with mine and while it wasn't very crispy or flavorful on its own, it's probably better fresh and it's pretty standard popcorn chicken. I would come back to Honey D to try their desserts/drinks and noodles, but will probably get my lu rou fan and popcorn chicken elsewhere! read more

came here with a group of 9 for dinner and we were sooo excited to eat here. none of us got any drinks so this review is based off their food. most of us got some type of braised pork over rice with either popcorn chicken or chicken cutlet. they have many options which include ramen, appetizers, and your typical taiwanese dishes. food - around $11 - $15 for your food depending on what you order braised pork over rice - i think they did a really good job with this dish, their eggs were a little weird looking at first but taste wise it was pretty good. i think that they could add a little more pork and a little less rice. overall, i would get it again. great space, i would try their desserts as well. if you havent been to honey d cafe i think it's a nice spot. it is not too big though. good for small groups and a nice place to hang out. read more

I came here with two of my best buds and they got a mango mango and a honey milk tea with boba and it was made to perfection. While the minced pork is well seasoned and flavorful, there isn't a lot on the rice and I feel like they could be more generous with it. My friend and I were drawn in by the durian pudding, but we were pretty disappointed by what we got for the price. $6 for a tiny jar with literally half a tablespoon of durian on top of a basically flavourless pudding with a plastic aftertaste- YIKES. The only good thing is that you get to keep the tiny glass jar. (1/10) We also got a beef roll and it didn't come with any sauce (other places we've been to serve it with sauces & that's what we're accustomed to) so we just made our own with with soy sauce and vinegar they had in the condiments corner. I loved the cheerful vibe of this cafe! It's a peaceful location to hang out with friends and also get some quality work done. The cafe has a vintage feel to it, and the dining area was spotless. There are lots of dessert and appetizer options, but there was a lack of meatless dishes. The staff was very accommodating to my request to vegetarian-ize the noodles (which originally had meat sauce). I truly appreciate this act! The food arrived promptly and the noodles were delicious, especially with the dumpling sauce. I do wish that the noodles had a variety of toppings instead of just some cucumbers. I would really rate this a 3.5, but rounding up to a 4. I like the drinks here that I've tried, including the strawberry milk. I've tried a drink with the pudding and I'm not the biggest fan. Their drinks are fairly delicious though, and I would choose this over any of the other myriad of boba places in town if only because it's been consistently good. The vibe here is also great - they have many board and card games if you want to just hang out for a bit. It's also a good place to study for students. I will say I've had trouble with customizations to the drinks. The training here isn't very consistent with some employees knowing exactly what you're talking about and others being extremely confused by any modifications you make to what's on the menu. For someone with a dairy-free partner and who tries to be dairy-free herself, it can be really frustrating. All in all, drinks are good, vibe is nice and customer service could use quite a bit of improvement. read more

Sooooo they still have cups from their previous names, but I had a really great time The egg puff with ice cream was so delicious - the egg puffs were a little crispy on the outside but soft in the middle, and the warmth of the egg puffs with the cold and sweet of the ice cream was a good combo. really don't like this place. i went during their grand opening which had ridiculously slow lines and crowd that wasn't managed well. they also stated there would be free boba and food at the opening but still made people pay during it and the manager said they are only doing buy one get one even though it clearly stated it on all the flyers it was free. the inside was also sketchy with weird sayings on the wall. after all the waiting and having to pay, the bobas taste was awful and made in a hurry. was very disappointed. read more

I asked if I could change my mango passion fruit green tea for a different drink and they said no, because they make their tea "extra strong" so customers can taste the tea. I love this place! The tofu pudding combo with red bean, sweet potato, and taro balls are to die for I highly recommend. Their okinawa milk tea was average, I asked for 80% sweet and they forgot so that was my only complaint. They're very generous with your topping in your boba whether it's boba or jelly so if you're someone who doesn't enjoy a lot of topping i'd ask for less. Lastly, their egg puff has a great vanilla/coconut flavor and chewy consistency. The only thing I wish they had was condensed milk to dip it in. Nice and cute little cafe that recently opened up in Davis! First, you enter and order your dishes. Then, you have to go find a table, but there isn't that many seats so make sure you're prepared to wait for one to open up. I thought most of their food was really good, especially the beef pancakes which were super soft and thick and had lots of tender beef inside. The grilled squid was also fresh tasting and not too chewy, and the flavoring was really delightful. Their chicken wings were a little bit hot (temperature wise), and most of the wings had broken bones so I had to be cautious while eating them. There was not much flavor to them either, really. The rice dishes were so good though!! Tasted exactly like grandma's cooking, lol. I really enjoyed both versions of chicken, the cut and the popcorn. Eggs have soy sauce inside and are soft boiled. As for the service, both of the ladies working there are very kind and served us every plate, so make sure to tip them! We forgot while ordering, but left it on the table afterwards. I think this place is wonderful, and a great place for people to enjoy authentic Taiwanese food while at Davis. Price wise, I think it's affordable to buy, and every dish is really big and worth the money. Would definitely go again and recommend! read more

Came in just for boba tea. I ordered a 30% sweet/30% ice and it was 100%. I then asked for it to be made again. Then once when finished it tasted horrible and watered down...hard to explain the actual taste but definitely not drinkable. I get this same drink at other places and always excellent. Additionally it had no ice! I ended up just getting my money back. It seemed like the girl may have purposely made it bad because I requested it as originally ordered but who knows. GO FOR THE FOOD. I hear mixed reviews about their bubble tea (which is on the expensive end for the area.) I went on a busy day so it was CRAZY in there. The Chinese beef roll was EXCELLENT but also HUGE! They were honest about the ingredients as well which I appreciated. I am garlic intolerant so it saved me a stomach ache.
