We were surprised to find out that they sell food/snacks! For our first time, we tried the tofu pudding combo and it came with glutinous rice balls and shaved ice underneath the tofu pudding! It was refreshing and not too sweet! We also tried the popcorn chicken and for an avid popcorn chicken addict I would rate it 9/10-tender, savory, and crispy thin batter. We got: Squid with sweet and sour sauce (not the one you are used to). Tasty seasoning on the squid (entire one). The sauce was amazing with some tad of spicy and a sweet/sour taste that was different. Cold cucumber slices. Good. Beef roll. Excellent. Pan fried to perfection. Tasty beef rolled up in a light, airy pastry shell. Divine. Beat's Yang's on Stockton Blvd in Sac! Juicy crunchy chicken. The star of the show. Crispy, yet light breading with a bounty of flavors and the chicken is hot and juicy inside. Sooooo bomb! Beats any of the finger fried chicken of T4, Tapioca Express or boba shop varieties. A must get. Don't have to thank me now or later....just get it! They also have hot noodle pots, rice plates like beef stew, curry beef etc. Check my menu photos for more deets. Super tasty selections that are Taiwanese. They do a lot of snacks. They for sure emphasize health and safety here. They have QR codes outside to look up the menu or you can place your order at the window. Because it's not a crime to have dessert before dinner, take note, the durian tofu is rich and creamy. So decadent! Disclaimer, if you've never had durian before, the fragrance will permeate your car as you drive off with it :) We also enjoyed the mushroom ginseng rice noodles. If you are expecting vegetarian, know that it comes with chicken and a version of spam so don't let the menu name fool you. Hidden treasure was the quail egg!! My wife and I stopped in for a bite to eat on the way home from the Sacramento Airport. She usually likes the Taiwanese style braised pork over rice which is generally made with pork belly, but their version here is a itch just minced pork. Flavor was good overall, not bland and not overpowering. I was expecting a different kind of Taiwanese sausage, but the the 3 little sausages had good flavor. Overall portion size was fair and fill our bellies. They have other dishes that we have had in the past that may be of better value. They have nice desserts and drinks to choose from. We have a Honey D Cafe at home but it's meh. We stopped in for some dessert after lunch. I chose the almond tea dessert with taro and sweet potato balls. It was funny because when it comes out, it literally looks like a bowl of milk. The almond flavor was nice though, just wish they gave soup spoons instead! Took me forever to finish the liquid. The sweet potato and taro were nice and soft so I liked that. The Okinawa milk tea was what's bringing my overall stars down. It wasn't even cold and had zero ice! And the boba itself wasn't very fresh. I can see how this spot might get popular with the Davis students but there are similar desserts with way more options across the street at Sweethoney. We love coming to Honey D! They used to have a location in Sacramento but now they're only in Davis. My bf & I like to come here for the rice plates and dessert. They currently only have take-out and do not have dine in during covid. They do have 2 small tables outside to sit & eat which is what we did. I recommend their Braised Pork Over Rice plates! My bf likes to get the one with the chicken cutlets and I usually just get the reg one with no added toppings. This is really filling and I love the flavor on it. We also like to get their herbal jelly dessert. It comes with taro balls, sweet potato balls and red bean. Honey D Cafe is an ok place to get your milk tea craving on. Besides the tea drinks there are rice plates, desserts, and snacks available to order. Milk tea places have to bring something different to the scene with so many now popping up all over the place. Honey D offers milk tea, but also has menu items that other similar cafes don't offer. I'd say that the Taiwanese style rice dishes are unique as well as their variety of Asian desserts. In terms of their milk tea, I found it middling. It's certainly not bad, but has a stronger bitterness than I would like. There is more tea feel than milk - so it's less creamy. In a pinch I'm fine with it, but I prefer the milk tea from other cafes a bit more. On the food side of things, I'd also say that it can get the job done, but for my personal taste, it's not something I would crave. I would certainly come to Honey D Cafe, but it may not be my first choice. read more

So disappointing that the quality is subpar since their menu offers so much. There seemed to be one individual working who was handling all the cashiering, the drink and dish making, and the serving, so it took some time for our drinks to come out. We got the: 1) Okinawa Pearl Milk Tea: -Okinawa milk tea, as I've had it at so many other establishments, is supposed to have a roasted brown sugar taste. Instead, this was definitely an overly sweetened Oolong milk tea. -The boba had a sour after taste and the texture was very mushy. After trying some I made sure to avoid consuming more with my drink. 2) Oreo Milk Tea: -Other places I've been to prepare this drink by blending Oreos with some ice cream or find some other way to include Oreo bits in a suspension that makes the drink appealing. -This honestly looked like someone minced half a bag of Oreos and allowed it to precipitate in a drink. -The milk tea used for this was EXACTLY the same one used for the Okinawa milk tea, except filled with Oreo crumbs. -It was visually unappealing with all the Oreo crumbs settling at the bottom half of the drink and even upon mixing, it just tasted like drinking an Oreo sludge. -My friend felt really sick after drinking this and could not finish it. 3) Matcha Red Bean Milk Tea: -The red bean was just a solid mass at the bottom of the drink, as if it collected at the bottom of a container and was all mushed together. -The matcha was not only extremely chalky, but there was also a slight chemical-y after taste that made this drink not very delectable at all. There are other boba and dessert places within walking distance, I would rather go and try those out before giving this place a second chance. read more

From hot foods (like beef wrap/roll, variety of rice dishes, dumplings) to snacks (lamb skewers, popcorn chicken, shiu mai, BBQ buns, egg puff) to desserts (tofu pudding with taro balls, ice cream, flower pot tiramisu desserts, egg puddings) to boba drinks. Flavor is not bad, but kinda pricey, especially the beef wrap ($9 ish). This location does not have bibimbap or hot noodle broths/soup dishes or soy sauce dip snacks like the one in SAC. The place is small so tables and chairs are compact size. If it's busy, you might not get a table. Please note - you have to go to the register to order first before you take a seat. Don't expect to get seated and have a waiter/waitress wait on you. Service is kinda lacking but it's probably cause they are still in soft opening. The owner lady was the most attentive when it comes to service, so she gets a kuddo. read more

I just ordered a taro milk tea from the store. I was watching the employee making it and the ingredients was only a bunch of powders and tea but I decided to trust to process. I the employee that it is a to-go order and asked her to seal it, she said she will but after I left the store I realized it wasn't sealed. The grilled squid is amazing, very tender and lots of good flavor. It was very good. The seasoning is a bit spicy though, just a warning. The braised pork was underwhelming for me, not enough flavor and the texture was more like watery ground pork. Still giving this place four stars because the business is very honest and has great service. We also ordered a dessert through doordash and they forgot to put it in the bag. Went to their grand opening event. They advertised free boba and food from 11-2. Started waiting in line at around 11:15. Once I finally got up to get my Free boba they said it was now buy one get one free that it was only until 11:30 that the boba was free. The event page said 11-2, nowhere on the event page or the Facebook page did it say there was a cut off time for free boba. Also no signage out front stating that. Very deceiving! Especially after waiting so about an hour. If I would have know that it was BOGO I would not have waited in line and would have gone elsewhere. Others I talked to who already received their boba got it free. It seemed like they weren't expecting such a big outcome and decided to start charging people instead. I was a little confused because they had a rare tea menu and rare tea straws? The boba was cooked good it was nice and chewy and the tea contained a lot of boba which is good because that's my favorite. Overall it was a good milk tea. Anyways, the space is cute - you can definitely tell that they tried livening up the interior. The space is a bit small but my friend and I were able to find seats quickly. My friend got the beef wrap and I got the braised pork with rice. Not going to lie, it was a bit on the pricey side, but the food itself was tasty. It's not bad at all, but it's not the best best. I do appreciate the variety of food that they have in their menu such as calamari and the braised pork. This place used to be TeaOne but got replaced with Honey D. Definitely an upgrade for me. My friend and I went here for lunch; I ordered the beef roll and he ordered the noodles with house sauce. Both were delectable, price wise it is a little bit pricey but the portions are good. I couldn't finish my beef roll because of how large it was and took it home for dinner.
