The food here honestly tastes like a warm comforting hug. The main dishes we had were the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup and the Juicy Chicken Cutlet with Braised Pork Over Rice. The portions are good for sharing for a date (but honestly you would probably want your own plate to yourself to take home afterwards LOL). The chicken was super crispy yet maintained the juiciness and flavor on the inside. Definitely a great spot to visit whenever you're in the Davis area and looking for good Taiwanese food!
Got the braised pork rice and tiramisu and the food is seriously good. Tiramisu came right away and I did too bc it's so high quality, real thick mascarpone and the bottom was well soaked with coffee, overall flavor was really good. $9 is a crazy price but it was very good tiramisu. Workers are very gracious and kind and I love hearing their Taiwanese mandarin. My pork rice came after 10 minutes and the portion was good for the price. Lots of rice and pork fat which was good! Taiwanese cabbage was too tough and bland for me, and I didn't like the sour veggies on the side. The egg yolk in the braised egg was just slightly uncooked which was great. The flavors were overall well-balanced and tasty. Ambiance is very chill, a little dark but clean and welcoming. Cute posters inside and just a nice environment. Highly recommend to try at least once, especially for the tiramisu!
Cute clean little spot in Davis although the interior is a bit dated that really doesn't matter much to me! Their service was quick and to the point and I wonder if that is why it only has about 3.7 stars on Yelp? Cause heres the thing their food and their desserts are actually pretty bomb and well priced, I got their juicy chicken cutlets w/ braised pork over rice and although I've had better, I've only exclusively had better in the bay area which is far and often times getting the same dish in the bay costs noticably more. Oh and something interesting they do is their tea eggs are actually somewhat jammy and not chalky like in many Chinese or Taiwanese spots. Their tiramisu was a surprise, honestly it would've been perfect if it was had maybe a quarter shot more of coffee, it is not too sweet and has a strong flavor, there were just some drier bits is all. I got their roasted sencha tea latte too, nice and bitter and at 50% sweet this would probably be equivalent to 25% sweet at other places, it was good for me since I honestly don't like my teas very sweet! Overall this place is a 4.5/5 - but if you factor in the price for the taste and quantity, especially for some of the college kids around here, it's a really good deal! P.s. bonus points their messages on their signage are pretty funny
I like the servers and the ambiance is younger and bright, but it can take a while to get food. This type of Chinese food isn't as common in Davis so it's more busy, but if you're not into this, not worth coming back. More a place for snacks, drinks, or maybe rice plates than a meal or soup. Spicy soup and braised beef had too much of an earthy flavor, would not get these again.
I had lunch at Honey D on a Thursday with a friend. Everyone there, dining and working, were two generations younger than us. I was the only Caucasian in the restaurant. I took both observations that the food would be good and a great value. Right on both counts. I ordered the Combination Veggie Noodle Miso Soup. It was delicious, loaded with an abundance of ingredients; at least three types of mushrooms, a quail egg, tofu, peanuts, soe chopped pickle, lettuce or cabbage, and lots of noodles in the broth. The serving size was large and I have enough left over for two more meals. The restaurant is relatively small. One orders at the counter towards the back. The food is brought to your table. There are several tables for two, a couple of tables for four, and a short counter seating area by the window.
I stopped in to Honey D's after a evening of drinking and wants something fast yet delicious to eat. My friend recommend Honey D's! We walking in a greeted by the owner a friendly young man. We asked for recommendations as we are open to try whatever on the menu. He recommended different items from the menu and I we for it, as we were hangry. He brought out dumplings a noodle dish chicken and desserts and boba drinks. While waiting the restaurant is cozy and quiet it's not too big inside. The food is absolutely delicious the pork and chive dumping were amazing the soup dumpling were on point. The noodle dish which I can't remember was so good and he brought out a durian dessert dish
My bf and I were looking for a place to buy something just to use a restroom and this was the only place we could find (SMH davis you need to do better) . Honestly im glad we did- we got the pork chicken cutlet bowl and the black tea latte with crema 50 percent sweet as well as the tiramisu. While the tiramisu was super good, the highlight was the savory dish . I like that their tea egg also had a bit of a yolkier middle. Im a saucy girl , but I honestly didn't need any for this dish as it was packed with so much flavor already and the rice was nicely soaked in the flavorful juiciness of the meat. This is also one of the few places here that is affordable (AND HAS A RESTROOM lol)
I was starving after having woken up early to attend the Candy Cane Dog Show Cluster in Woodland and wanted something comforting for lunch. Honey D Cafe caught my eye as I've had this establishment saved to my list for the longest time and that day I was not in the mood for pho. I wanted to stay nearby as I had groups later in the afternoon. Thankfully Davis is but a stone's throw away from Woodland. Parking in Davis on the weekends is always a nightmare, but I like to park in the parking garage by the cinema and just walk to my destination. I quickly found a spot at the parking garage and headed to Honey D Cafe. I was honestly surprised by how tiny the restaurant was. You order and pay up front before taking a seat. I went with the house special noodle soup and added wood ear fungus (wood ear is one of my favorite fungi). The tables were tiny and the chairs were not the most comfortable. I decided to shrug it off as I was starving, but made a mental note to include that in this review. The workers were not very friendly, and I noticed that they were extremely busy with to-go orders (DoorDash, Hungry Panda, etc). Bags upon bags of food started to accumulate on the pickup counter as I waited for my food. My noodle soup finally arrived in a hot metal bowl, which was nice to keep the soup piping hot. I was pleased with the amount of meat, veggies, and other ingredients in my bowl, especially since with tax and tip my total for lunch amounted to $23. For the extra $1.50 I paid for my wood ear, I did get a good amount of fungus too. But this is definitely not a restaurant I'd visit weekly. The broth was delicious and soothing, and all the ingredients worked well together to create a cohesive dish. The noodles were chewy and bouncy. I was very full after and while this bowl was on the pricier side, I was satisfied with my first experience at Honey D. However, I will say that the house special noodle soup reminds me of crossing-the-bridge noodle soup and honestly is most likely Honey D's rendition of that dish. Usually the ingredients are served separately and you add them to the boiling hot broth yourself once your bowl arrives to your table, but in this case all the ingredients were already present in the broth. I've had the most delicious crossing-the-bridge noodle soup in San Jose so I know what to expect. Honey D's was fine for a quick fix, but is not traditional (and I'm not saying to directly compare their food to the actual dish). It was just something that made me wonder the more I picked apart the ingredients in my bowl (such as the peanuts, quail eggs, etc). Regardless, I was satisfied with my meal and would like to return in the near future to try some other dishes that Honey D Cafe has to offer!

My wife and I stopped in for a bite to eat on the way home from the Sacramento Airport. She usually likes the Taiwanese style braised pork over rice which is generally made with pork belly, but their version here is a itch just minced pork. Flavor was good overall, not bland and not overpowering. I was expecting a different kind of Taiwanese sausage, but the the 3 little sausages had good flavor. Overall portion size was fair and fill our bellies. They have other dishes that we have had in the past that may be of better value. They have nice desserts and drinks to choose from. Overall, not a bad place to get a little taste of Taiwanese style cooking. read more

Very small amount of meat given for the price. Used to come here all the time and they would give much more meat for the portion size. Amount of rice is 3x the meat. Disappointing, won't be coming back anymore. read more

We have a Honey D Cafe at home but it's meh. We stopped in for some dessert after lunch. I chose the almond tea dessert with taro and sweet potato balls. It was funny because when it comes out, it literally looks like a bowl of milk. The almond flavor was nice though, just wish they gave soup spoons instead! Took me forever to finish the liquid. The sweet potato and taro were nice and soft so I liked that. The Okinawa milk tea was what's bringing my overall stars down. It wasn't even cold and had zero ice! And the boba itself wasn't very fresh. I can see how this spot might get popular with the Davis students but there are similar desserts with way more options across the street at Sweethoney. We had the lamb skewers which were seasoned nicely so maybe their food is better than the drinks here. read more

We love coming to Honey D! They used to have a location in Sacramento but now they're only in Davis. My bf & I like to come here for the rice plates and dessert. They currently only have take-out and do not have dine in during covid. They do have 2 small tables outside to sit & eat which is what we did. I recommend their Braised Pork Over Rice plates! My bf likes to get the one with the chicken cutlets and I usually just get the reg one with no added toppings. This is really filling and I love the flavor on it. We also like to get their herbal jelly dessert. It comes with taro balls, sweet potato balls and red bean. They have a lot of other items to choose from on the menu such as noodle soup, dumplings, other appetizers to choose from, milk tea, & more! The owner here is also really nice! read more
Honey D Cafe is an ok place to get your milk tea craving on. Besides the tea drinks there are rice plates, desserts, and snacks available to order. Milk tea places have to bring something different to the scene with so many now popping up all over the place. Honey D offers milk tea, but also has menu items that other similar cafes don't offer. I'd say that the Taiwanese style rice dishes are unique as well as their variety of Asian desserts. In terms of their milk tea, I found it middling. It's certainly not bad, but has a stronger bitterness than I would like. There is more tea feel than milk - so it's less creamy. In a pinch I'm fine with it, but I prefer the milk tea from other cafes a bit more. On the food side of things, I'd also say that it can get the job done, but for my personal taste, it's not something I would crave. I would certainly come to Honey D Cafe, but it may not be my first choice. read more

So disappointing that the quality is subpar since their menu offers so much. There seemed to be one individual working who was handling all the cashiering, the drink and dish making, and the serving, so it took some time for our drinks to come out. We got the: 1) Okinawa Pearl Milk Tea: -Okinawa milk tea, as I've had it at so many other establishments, is supposed to have a roasted brown sugar taste. Instead, this was definitely an overly sweetened Oolong milk tea. -The boba had a sour after taste and the texture was very mushy. After trying some I made sure to avoid consuming more with my drink. 2) Oreo Milk Tea: -Other places I've been to prepare this drink by blending Oreos with some ice cream or find some other way to include Oreo bits in a suspension that makes the drink appealing. -This honestly looked like someone minced half a bag of Oreos and allowed it to precipitate in a drink. -The milk tea used for this was EXACTLY the same one used for the Okinawa milk tea, except filled with Oreo crumbs. -It was visually unappealing with all the Oreo crumbs settling at the bottom half of the drink and even upon mixing, it just tasted like drinking an Oreo sludge. -My friend felt really sick after drinking this and could not finish it. 3) Matcha Red Bean Milk Tea: -The red bean was just a solid mass at the bottom of the drink, as if it collected at the bottom of a container and was all mushed together. -The matcha was not only extremely chalky, but there was also a slight chemical-y after taste that made this drink not very delectable at all. There are other boba and dessert places within walking distance, I would rather go and try those out before giving this place a second chance. read more
Sister store to the one in South SAC. They have a variety of food and desserts here. From hot foods (like beef wrap/roll, variety of rice dishes, dumplings) to snacks (lamb skewers, popcorn chicken, shiu mai, BBQ buns, egg puff) to desserts (tofu pudding with taro balls, ice cream, flower pot tiramisu desserts, egg puddings) to boba drinks. Flavor is not bad, but kinda pricey, especially the beef wrap ($9 ish). This location does not have bibimbap or hot noodle broths/soup dishes or soy sauce dip snacks like the one in SAC. The place is small so tables and chairs are compact size. If it's busy, you might not get a table. Please note - you have to go to the register to order first before you take a seat. Don't expect to get seated and have a waiter/waitress wait on you. Service is kinda lacking but it's probably cause they are still in soft opening. The owner lady was the most attentive when it comes to service, so she gets a kuddo. read more

I came to this place all the time, but this is my first time to write the reviews.Beef roll and mushroom ginseng rice noodles are my favorite, I order them every time. I love lamb skewers, so when I look at the pictures in the menu, I decided to give it a try, but the real skewers in my plate was too small, there almost not much meat to eat, I was so disappointed. I just ordered a taro milk tea from the store. I was watching the employee making it and the ingredients was only a bunch of powders and tea but I decided to trust to process. I the employee that it is a to-go order and asked her to seal it, she said she will but after I left the store I realized it wasn't sealed. When I get home and tried the milk tea, the taro at the bottom was rancid and has a sour taste. Im simply saying that it wasn't the ingredients i was expecting nor did I feel like it was worth my money, not saying the service was bad. read more

Formerly RareTea, I decided to stop by and check this place out while in Davis. I ended up getting a jasmine jelly dessert and they had a buy 3 for $10 deal, which ends up giving you one free since they're normally $5 each. Service is also good and quick. The line was long when I came to visit. They also have a decent amount of food to choose from. read more

Went to their grand opening event. They advertised free boba and food from 11-2. Started waiting in line at around 11:15. Once I finally got up to get my Free boba they said it was now buy one get one free that it was only until 11:30 that the boba was free. The event page said 11-2, nowhere on the event page or the Facebook page did it say there was a cut off time for free boba. Also no signage out front stating that. Very deceiving! Especially after waiting so about an hour. If I would have know that it was BOGO I would not have waited in line and would have gone elsewhere. Others I talked to who already received their boba got it free. It seemed like they weren't expecting such a big outcome and decided to start charging people instead. I was a little confused because they had a rare tea menu and rare tea straws? The boba was cooked good it was nice and chewy and the tea contained a lot of boba which is good because that's my favorite. Overall it was a good milk tea. Was just very put off by the false advertisement. They did have some seating inside. However we didn't get to sit down as it was very busy for the grand opening. read more

Ordered food from here on doordash and the order came within 40 minutes! I got the taiwanese braised beef with katsu and also the grilled squid. The grilled squid is amazing, very tender and lots of good flavor. It was very good. The seasoning is a bit spicy though, just a warning. The braised pork was underwhelming for me, not enough flavor and the texture was more like watery ground pork. Still giving this place four stars because the business is very honest and has great service. We also ordered a dessert through doordash and they forgot to put it in the bag. They messaged us right away and refunded us even before our doordash driver arrived at our house. Really nice workers here read more

I'm low key glad that they replaced TeaOne with Honey D. Although it's sort of a boba place, it has more variety due to its menu. Anyways, the space is cute - you can definitely tell that they tried livening up the interior. The space is a bit small but my friend and I were able to find seats quickly. My friend got the beef wrap and I got the braised pork with rice. Not going to lie, it was a bit on the pricey side, but the food itself was tasty. It's not bad at all, but it's not the best best. I do appreciate the variety of food that they have in their menu such as calamari and the braised pork. I do look forward to coming back and trying other things on their menu, as well as their drinks to see how they compare to the other boba shops nearby. read more
This place used to be TeaOne but got replaced with Honey D. Definitely an upgrade for me. My friend and I went here for lunch; I ordered the beef roll and he ordered the noodles with house sauce. Both were delectable, price wise it is a little bit pricey but the portions are good. I couldn't finish my beef roll because of how large it was and took it home for dinner. I really appreciate how there's such a wide menu at this place; you have milk tea, desserts like durian pudding, and entree dishes. Whether you crave something savory or sweet, this place has both! Will definitely be coming back. read more

We love this place so much that we drive to Davis (from Sacramento) just to come here and eat their amazing food. My favorite is their signature dish - Chicken cutlet that comes with braised pork over rice, pickled green and flavored eggs. So good. Also Durian Tofu dessert is amazing. Milk pudding and Herbal Jelly dessert that comes with Sweet red beans were really good too. Pretty much everything we've eaten there have been amazing. read more
