Good amount of protein. I see people complaining about the size, but I think it's the right amount. It comes down to the other toppings you choose. Food was fresh and delicious. I also had the dessert custard bao. The bun itself wasn't too sweet. Speaking of which, the Thai Boba beverage was also not sweet like most places. This is coming from someone who loves pastries and their tea bitter as wormwood. This is one of my favorite spots for poke out here in TO. My next favorite is the gelson's poke. Had a disappointing meal at Honeyfish and it's really too bad because I adore the woman who was working behind the counter. I liked her so much that I was really contemplating what amount of stars to give because I feel like when you meet someone nice who works at an establishment, I try really hard to give a good amount of stars... but then the more I thought about it, I really don't want to be misleading. There can be nice people who work at establishments and that still doesn't mean it will be enough to keep you coming back. That's where I finally fell when assessing how many stars to give. I can't give more then two. 5 stars for the friendly employee but 2 stars for the atmosphere, price, and meal. Found Honeyfish by accident as I was ordering some boba teas next door. I love poke so was excited to grab a bite to eat here. From the outside it looked like a typical poke restaurant but as soon as I opened the door I felt confused. It was relatively dark inside. Not warm and inviting but rather looked like a shop closing up for the day. Had it not been for the friendly women sitting behind the counter who greeted me I probably would have turned around. This establishment is still operating like many did during the pandemic, all of the tables were pushed in front of the poke counter and off to the side of the restaurant with no chairs. I wish the signage outside was more clear that it was "to go only" or else I wouldn't have stopped in here. I had to travel about an hour back to my office and wasn't planning on hauling poke that long but couldn't turn around to leave. I saw other reviews that are disappointed that you can't eat there and/or at minimum that they aren't putting tables outside or just a few tables socially distanced inside. I had the same issue upon seeing that they serve ramen here. It may just be me but I feel like both poke and ramen are dishes that taste best when eaten fresh, in the moment, not shlepped around town. Opted that the ramen would be a no go and went with the poke. The menu was straightforward but I was surprised at the prices. The prices seemed high in comparison to my regular poke joints. I opted for a regular poke bowl which after tax ran me $20! The regular bowl here is about a small at my normal spot but costing me the price of a large. The ratios of the fish were smaller then I expected for the hefty price. The women was sweet and we talked about expenses of product (not that I complained but we were just chatting about business) which I guess was her way of justifying the prices for smaller portions as others had clearly complained in the past. I didn't say anything and remained polite. What did bum me out is that even with the small portions of fish I felt skimped In every category. Avocado is $1 more, seaweed salad $1 more etc etc. Even the "regular" veggies toppings I was told I could "only pick two." What business model is this? I have never been to a poke spot were there was a limit on regular filler items. And if there had to be a limit maybe I could understand but for $20 how are you telling me aside from the rice, fish, and sauce I can only pick two things? So strange. I went with fried onion and cucumber, leaving out my other 5 ingredients I would normally be able to get elsewhere. Also, you don't get the traditional poke building experience here. Despite there being a counter where the ingredients are normally held, the woman had to go to the back and bring items out to make my bowl. I found that a little peculiar. I guess on a positive note she cut the cucumber and avocado for my bowl Fresh. That's definitely a plus BUT it's a little more time consuming so you do have to wait, and like other reviews noted - If there is more then one customer then you could end up waiting awhile for items being prepped and cut. At least it gives the Appeal of "freshness." Plus the woman took clear pride in crafting your poke bowl which was nice. She was a doll and I wish I liked the overall theme of Honeyfish more to come back but good service isn't enough. The atmosphere isn't welcoming and the prices aren't reasonable in comparison to other competitors nearby. Lastly, how was the poke you ask? Mediocre. It was fine. I ate it but didn't thoroughly enjoy it. And of course as I was 75% done I finally hit a piece of salmon with some bone accidentally left in it. I've never had that happen at my local poke spots and this sealed the deal for me. Hopefully the owner is receptive to feedback as I read a lot of the same complaints after the fact. When you have a lot of people making the same critiques I would imagine it's worth a listen. I wish I would have checked this spot out on Yelp before going. Looking at the menu on the wall, multiple items with blue tape across them as she said those items were out. Wanted mixed greens...they were out! Daughter order half tuna and half spicy, they have her tuna only. Of the toppings only 6 available and you get 2, yes only 2 on a regular bowl. The canned pineapple was, well canned pineapple, not fresh. No edamame. Then came time for sauces. The 2 I choose she said would not go together l. I said that's what I'd like and she said no that I should get these instead. Ok why even order what I want when she's gonna tell em what to get. It is YOUR responsibility to update your postmates menu if you no longer offer an item, particularly an item that I paid more for. Ugh. Came here at 4:30 on a Thursday. Doors were locked so I was about to go somewhere else. Just then a little lady comes to the door and says she forgot to open the doors and it's take out only. I should have just taken that as an omen and left. When I got to the counter she started explaining to me what poke is, even though I didn't ask. We started a small spicy tuna bowl. I said I was absolutely no salt added in the way of sauces. So I asked for ponzu sauce. She insisted that it wouldn't taste good and that just a little bit of eel sauce would be better. I asked for a TINY bit on the side of the bowl. She proceeded to dump so much on there I had to stop her when I noticed what she was doing. Seriously? She wanted us to be happy with our bowls and to know the quality of the food here. You have options of bowls with 4 proteins $13.95 or 5 $14.95. Good sides and yummy salad options. We both opted for 5 proteins. Fish is fresh and she made my daughters marinated tuna right in front of us. It's plenty of food, we both left happy. She explained about the desert options and we had to try the 2 she had. Soft bun with custard filling YUM, and Taiyaki- pancake filled with red bean filling, shaped like a fish. Cute! Soo delicious. It pains me to do this to a poke restaurant, which is my favorite kind of food and something that I eat religiously, but 2-2.5 stars is kind of where I'm at with this place. Maybe they deserve a second chance in a few months when they're more established, but nothing really stands out to me about this place, really. Came here today for lunch in hopes of finding a new go-to spot to enjoy poke for lunch. When I walked in, the first thing I noticed was that there weren't any tables or chairs to eat at. Well, that's fine, I can eat in my car just as well. Next, the menu. Being that I live in studio city, I've been to my fair share of poke places, and I'm a regular at quite a few. What first disappointed me was the extra $1 charge for crab meat. This is an included (free) add-on at every poke establishment I've been to. Not too big of a deal, but definitely a slight disappointment. The prices here are standard, with a large bowl being $12.50. No major complaints in this department. My order: I ordered a large bowl (4 scoops of fish) with white rice as my base. For my proteins, I ordered 2 scoops of tuna, 1 scoop of albacore, and 1 scoop of yellowtail. For toppings/add-ons, I ordered edamame, cucumber, seaweed salad, and masago. I was ready to enjoy my meal. The quantity: Below average on all levels. Compared to a sushi restaurant, yes this place is cheap for the quantity. But, this is a poke place, and the scoops of fish were far from generous, especially in comparison to other poke shops in the valley. The amount of seaweed salad and other toppings tended to be on the skimpy side, as well, with exception to the masago. The taste/quality: The white rice was on point - 5 stars. The tuna and albacore: Standard - no complaints - 4 stars. The yellowtail: 1-2 stars. The yellowtail is what really ruined my meal today. It came frozen and inedible. I think I got freezer burn on the roof of my mouth from it, and was unable to finish it. The service: No complaints. The workers here were nice and friendly, and the line moved quickly and efficiently. The ambiance: Non-existent. I guess the floor was pretty cool/nice, however, the restaurant is basically just one big open space. No place to sit and enjoy. All in all, I'm happy the Ventura County is starting to get some poke restaurants. While this is a good start, this restaurant has a lot of work to do in terms of improvement. I know they just opened, and are probably still working out the kinks, but I don't think it's a good idea to open a restaurant before it's ready. I probably won't be back to this location in a Long time. For those looking for a great poke experience, try Poke Bar in Studio City. It's my favorite. read more

Me and my lady happened to be getting smoothies at Nekter when we noticed this new place, Honeyfish Poke. After getting our smoothies, we stopped in to check it out and grab a menu. To our surprise, we accidentally walked in on a Honeyfish Poke staff training session. Oops! Fortunately the owner welcomed us in with open arms. Once he gave us the low down on Honeyfish, he offered us free poke! Such a cool guy!! The awesome and accommodating owner and free food is only part of the reason I am giving Honeyfish a 5 star review. The poke itself was excellent! The spicy tuna was flavorful and had just the right amount of kick to it. We also had some very tasty crab meat that was refreshing especially when paired with cucumbers and scallions. We topped our poke creation with a mix of ponzu-wasabi sauce and a drizzle of eel sauce along with some other tasty crunchy toppings they offered. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality and taste of the food and are very excited to come back once they open officially tomorrow! Honestly, Honeyfish Poke wouldn't be so bad if it were the only poke place within a 5-mile radius. No one would know what good poke can look and taste like. Unfortunately for Honeyfish, though, it isn't the only joint in town. Just 100 feet away is Kreasian Kitchen. A few miles off is Poke Tiki. Not far away from that is PokeLand. When the competition is doing so much better, for a lower price, a business simply cannot continue producing sub-par food. Yet, Honeyfish Poke just hasn't learned. Let's start with the quality and presentation. Out of the handful of times I've been here, my fish was served lukewarm. Makes sense, since the whole shop was quite warm at the time. Once, I found (multiple) bones in the salmon. The scoops of protein are considerably minimal -- blatantly so -- and the workers have no shame in dumping half-sized portions as if that's how it should be. Really, they probably just didn't want to pull out another box of fish. Everything looked like it had been sitting out for a while. Sauces are poured halfheartedly over the whole bowl, ruining the presentation. Just a mess, all around. The sauces were much better last year than they are now. Not sure what changed, but the sauces have a consistency similar to wet paste. Cutting a few corners to save a couple of bucks? They drown the plate in sauce. I guess it's supposed to mask the quality of the fish, which doesn't help very much if the sauce isn't good either. Yuzu wasabi is still as delicious as ever -- their one redeeming quality. Prices are just not worthwhile for the quality and size of the poke here. A Large here is basically a Small or Medium elsewhere. Expect a ton of rice and meager amounts of toppings and proteins. Extra charge on seaweed salad, crabmeat, and avocado, too. Who charges $1 for imitation crab? What? Sooner than later, this spot has to go. I was greeted by two friendly employees, Ben and Nickloas who answered my questions cheerfully. I did learn seating is coming tomorrow and that's in part why they're closed on the 4th. I ordered two large bowls with toppings. I honestly can't say what I asked for in my bowls, I do know I got a good variety of just about everything there. Wasn't sure how spicey the tuna was, so was asked if I wanted a sample. How very nice! Asked for that in my bowl, too, please. What I learned after eating is ...You may want to ask for light sauce or to have the sauce on the side. Also, Honeyfish Poke, consider mushrooms as perhaps a protein source, too. I was so excited to see that the Thousand Oaks/Westlake village area would finally be getting a Poke place! What they created was a wonderful one! The logistics of Honey Fish are just like any other Poke place; stand in like, choose rice( they do have brown)or salad, add fish and toppings. What makes them different is the toppings! I have never seen a Poke place with as many sauces as they do! They also offer an array of different spices and seasonings. In addition to your typical spicy mayo, sriracha, and sesame seeds; honey Fish offers funky toppings such as a delicious jalapeño mango sauce or even their special spicy seasoning blend! These creations make them stand out compared to any other poke place that I have been to so far. My only complaint is that for a small poke bowl, it was pretty pricey at about $12. The portion was far smaller than all of the other poke places I have been to. Typically, poke bowls around that size are around 8/9 dollars. I would suggest to either increase the size a bit or decrease the price. Other than that, a good poke place to try! read more

My only con - for a regular bowl you are only allowed two toppings and for a large you are allowed three. Crispy onion, garlic, chili powder, and sesame seeds all count as toppings as well. Most poke places I've seen allow for unlimited toppings & crispy garlic, onion and sesame seeds are considered garnishes. They upcharge for everything and when I got a teaspoon of seaweed salad for 75¢, I complained and she gave me an extra teaspoon... I'm already getting charged $15 and asked for a tip on the machine for a very chintzy portion, so no, not ok. They only offer 3 protein scoops for a large, whereas most people offer 5 for a large, plus complementary crab. Only two employees working at lunch today and they were very very sloooow. Took a good 2 minutes to slice up an avocado... I was just standing there watching like, whaaaaat. No fountain drinks here and very little seating. It's dark in here with only the one window. Reluctantly tried Honeyfish Poke after a gym workout in the same shopping center. I've seen mixed ratings and unfortunately they're true. The upside is the fish is fresh and sauces are excellent- I had eel sauce and sesame oil. The flavors of everything mesh well. The owner was also patient and helpful and let us sample the different sauces. If you like an extra spicy kick, choose the yuzu wasabi sauce. If you're a weakling like me, stay away. However, I was turned off by the price. A regular bowl of 4 rather modest scoops of fish was $14! Two bowls cost me $30, enough for a decent sushi dinner.
