I came across this spot after seeing a news story about its opening and was pretty excited to try it out. So that week I took a visit to the location in the Petworth area of DC and the first thing that stands out is it's diner style feel. When you come in there's a long bar like table with stools and surrounding it a few booths for seating. I wouldn't say this is an ideal dine-in spot but I didn't have any trouble that evening finding a seat. Service seems to be pretty good and each seat and booth area is equipped with QR codes connected to the toasttab feature which makes ordering and paying through your phone seamless. Ok so on to the important part the food. Fried chicken with a twist is essentially their selling point so me and one of my foodie friends decided to make things simple so we ordered a bucket of chicken in which you can choose from honey dusted in original or spicy, or have them dipped in their hot honey sauce, and we also tried the comeback sauce as well on the side. The buckets (priced around $21) come with 8 pieces which can be a mix of wings, thighs, and drums. For the sides we went with a large Mac and cheese and wedge fries. To top it off they also offer regular drinks like iced teas and lemonades as well as a few beers, and a small variety of cocktails priced at about $8. The other option is champagne which kinda goes with their selling point of a fancy twist on fried chicken so we decided why not give that pairing a try as advertised...HOWEVER upon looking at the menu we noticed that the price is $58 for a half bottle of champagne (veuve clicquot). This upcharged price is also probably the reason it isn't readily available on their current online menu but nevertheless we were there for the experience so whatever. The food comes super quick maybe about 5 mins after completing the online order and let me give context by saying like a standard fast food joint the chicken is already fried and sitting under heated lamps ready to serve so hence the quick delivery to the table. I'll start with the honey butter rolls: Great flavor just a little too extra on the honey butter, the biscuits were basically soggy because of the amount used on them. The Mac and cheese: Decent but don't expect grandma's southern style version this one is a little non-traditional with regards to the type of noodles used and the cheese itself but it at least had the right consistency. Fries: also decent seasoned so no complaints. And finally the star of the show the honey dusted fried chicken: Overall ok but not overwhelming, the chicken was nicely fried crispy but not hard while still being juicy. The honey dusted element gives a nice flavor with regards to the drums and wings, however as for the thighs those could have used some more time in the fryer as they were a little pinker in the middle than I would've been comfortable with eating and therefore we didn't. So in summary I can't say this would be a top option for me as far as fried chicken oriented spots moving forward but something tells me their chicken sandwich might be a better way to go for anyone looking to try this place out. read more

Man oh man the fried chicken here was . I honestly believe this is the best fried chicken I have ever had. I usually rip the skin off all my fried chicken but not here it was so crunchy and had a nice flavor. Sides were amazing as well really loved the poutine fries, Brussels sprouts and the lemon coleslaw they had. Visited Honeymoon Chicken today and it hit all the right spots for me. I love that you get to walk right in and sit down, order from your phone and pay your tab on your phone when done. Went to their soft opening last night and wow so excited for this. Ordered 8 piece chicken bucket with the spicy rub, Mac and cheese, and the Brussel sprouts. Chicken was crispy and had amazing flavor (even better leftovers this morning cold) the spicy wasn't super spicy but had a nice warm heat to it. Mac and cheese was super cheesy and the sprouts were crisp and flavorful. Comeback sauce and mambo sauce were both excellent. And the rolls! So buttery and I loved the sprinkle of flaky salt on top. Beautiful interior that keeps up with the vibes of the old historic diner that was here before. The waitstaff was extremely attentive as well and all were great. As soon as I seen this and what they had to offer I just had to come and give it a try. First things first the Brussel sprouts were chefs kiss ! Couldn't and wouldn't know how to top this. The shrimp basket with the comeback sauce, just right. No seafood smell or taste to it, fried in a nice batter and absolutely edible down to the tail shell still attached. The chicken wing .... Well not gonna lie was a little confused, no real down to the bone flavor and not much on top flavor either. Does go well with the comeback sauce which leads me to believe it just needs a little umph to it with added dipping sauces that they have to offer. The rolls, although nice and fluffy and warm and a hint of sweet, just wasn't my favorite. Could the roll be good with something in between whether that be their chicken or shrimp or fish , sure yea. But wasn't all out impressed. Tasted like kings Hawaiian with honey over and under it and some chopped up chives. Now the stuff they have to offer on the menu is something that is so hard to narrow it down for just one. There's potential in this restaurant for sure and much more I'm willing and got to try. I'd been waiting to try this chicken and this restaurant for quite a while. Recently, I was in the neighborhood and decided to stop by. A couple things you need to know, you're ordering off of a QR code on the table. PRE-PAID before you get service. I'm okay with that, automation. The food just gets dropped to your table. Ok. The adult beverage was fine, the sandwich was thrown together and fell apart at first bite but the watermelon salad was delicious. What was MOST troublesome was the SERVICE FEE added and the AUTOMATIC tip on the bill. I was a party ONE . There is no real service. They just drop off the food based on what I ordered myself on my phone, so what's the service fee for? And how do you justify a tip over 15% ON TOP OF THE SERVICE FEE. On top of that I left $4, because I didn't know the tip was included on a party of one. I did not like honey moon. I got the scrimp and fish I didn't like it wasn't seasoned. The wedged was really dry too almost non edible. My son did not touch them. I can't even start to put into words how divine Honeymoon Chicken delivers heaven. The honey rolls were so fresh, fluffy and still dreaming about those pillows of love. Poutine had so many cheese curds as well as the chicken balls. The gravy had some kick to it. Chicken sandwich was fried perfectly, slaw was perfectly shredded and flavorful. I had high hopes for this new spot in my neighborhood but my takeout order tonight was a disappointment. The order was ready at 6:20 even though it was scheduled for 6:45. Fried chicken sandwiches, Brussels and Mac and cheese were all cold by the time I brought my food home. The sandwich was soggy from the slaw and the cheese was completely congealed and cold. The restaurant is newly opened and figuring out their systems, but I hope this problem is fixed soon. Fried chicken is best fresh & being ready 25 minutes before a pick up time is a big miss. $60 for cold takeout food that did not wow me. Most of their food is good but only if you go to the store and get it yourself. I've had them for delivery twice and they messed up both times. When someone orders a salad, you would think they would include the SALAD DRESSING. Ordered it twice and didn't receive the dressing twice. Really solid fried chicken spot that has a cute, dinner setting, which means it can definitely get crowded quickly and be hard to grab a table, but is definitely worth the wait. They have a couple fried chicken options, but I find it best to go with the traditional two or four piece set of chicken, but they also have wings and chicken bites. I had been really looking forward to trying Honeymoon since the signs went up; I'm always game to try new restaurants in my neighborhood. We decided to order Honeymoon for the Super Bowl, which turned out to be a mistake. We ordered online (I got the chicken banh mi with a side of mac and cheese and my partner got the fried mushroom sandwich with a side of fries) and knew we were going to have to wait an hour for our food to be ready. Not a big deal on Super Bowl Sunday. However, when we arrived at the appointed time to pick up the food, it was packed with other patrons waiting on their food. People had already been waiting for 30+ minutes past when their food was supposed to be ready--even after they had received a text saying their food was ready. Our food was ready a half hour later, at the same time as someone who waited an hour (yikes). People were getting restless, so the manager was offering free drinks to people to placate them (we didn't take them up on it). The food traveled pretty well, given that most of it was fried. The chicken--even without hot honey--is spicy. If you don't have a tolerance for spice, try something else on the menu. My banh mi was pretty good, except for the surprise bones and gristle that showed up in one of the chicken bites (I assume this is a mistake cause boned chicken in a sandwich sounds like a big problem). I really liked the mix of cheeses in the mac and the fries were well-seasoned. The fried mushroom sandwich was great too, especially the slaw and sauce. The food was pretty good, and we're willing to give them the benefit of the doubt because they're still new and it was a major food day, and we'll try them again. read more
