I'm shocked at all the bad reviews. Granted we did order through Uber Eats but this is some of the best Chinese food I've had in awhile. Way better than anything I get in Dallas where I live. The rangoons were still crispy and not greasy. Kung Pao was the perfect spice with extra flavor. I would recommend just based on the food and taste, as well as price. I had not been here in years and thought I would try it for lunch today. Walked in and ordered 2 entrees to-go, he said about 10 min and I walked out 8 min later. Quick! The serving sizes are very generous! I think me and my husband could have shared the chicken lomein. Although not quite "authentic" tasting, the food was still good. Served hot and fresh. Honestly I'm disappointed. I got the seafood pho. All types of seafood tasted overcooked and kind of old, not fresh. I got a kids rice with pork plate and I can't put my finger on what's off. It tasted like old oil or old sauce, the rice was slightly underdone. My hot tea I ordered didn't come out hot enough for my tea to steep. I was craving Chinese food so I decided to try this place. I had ordered the sesame chicken and general tso chicken and I must say this is the most horrible Chinese food I've ever had in my life. This is my first and last time ever coming here. There was so much batter on the chicken you can't even find the chicken. The flavors are completely wrong and frankly I am shock how this place exist. The food is nothing like Chinese American and very far from it. As much as I hate wasting food but it was so bad I ended up throwing all of my food away after a couple bites. We ordered several dishes and weren't pleased with any except the crab wontons. The shrimp fried rice was the worst I've ever had NO seasoning whatsoever on the shrimp! Very bland!!!! Let me start out by saying that I was starving from driving from Galveston. I stopped in Elgin and Elgin is known for their BBQ. I was not in the mood for BBQ so I headed to this place. We know Elgin is a small place. We walked in at 2:02pm on a Saturday and the lady working greeted us with a lunch menu. Awesome! She still allowed us to order from the lunch menu. They do not have fountain sodas. They have can sodas but it's only $1. Not bad! Check out the lunch menu I uploaded. Great prices! I ordered the egg drop soup, hot and spicy chicken with fried rice and egg roll. The food was good...We even ordered a fresh spring roll to go along with it. The guy seated behind me said that their spring rolls were the best he ever had. If you are ever passing by from out of town check them out. Usually great food and service but last night's order took forever and todays Grubhub order was way too long a wait as well (driver was smart, kept updating me while he was waiting for the food and when he headed out my way). I usually get well done orange chicken and wonton soup (both delish), today I wanted soup and salad so did wonton and a lemongrass bahn mi. Since this place is Vietnamese heavy on the menu I thought for sure the sandwich would be a winner... NOPE! The bread was ok at best, the "julienned" veggies was small chopped carrots, CHUNKS of sliced cucumber and jalapeños and iceberg lettuce?? A sprig or two of cilantro and peanuts rounded out this sickenly sweet tough pieces of beef in a too big and too doughy hoagie roll. Tried out Hong Kong a couple of times now... Tips: Don't try to call in an order to go - faster to actually go in and order. I tried calling 4 times within a 30 minute time frame and kept going to "enter your log in number." HOWEVER - lets talk about WHAT is important - FOOD! I saw another review complaining about price/portion... I don't know how that's possible. We got: Ragoons, 2 small soups, 1 egg roll, 2 entrees for $22.51 and still had left overs after eating a gut busting amount of food. The soup was flavorful, ragoons crispy and full of cream cheese goodness. Vegetable Lo Mein was delicious and my husbands General Pso was just the right heat. Steamed rice nice and fluffy. If I could give negative stars, I would. I called to report a mistake with my order. Instead of hearing what her mistake was, the "cook" and as she says "manager" started yelling at me and refusing to even let me finish my sentence about what was wrong with the order. Their food is half cooked and my child had to go to the hospital due to food poisoning from the order that was incorrect and she refused to admit was made incorrectly. I will be pressing legal charges on, specifically, the woman "manager". I suggest finding ANY other place to eat Chinese food than here. The crappy location isn't even half as bad as the service or the food. Expect them to be forced closed soon due to my lawsuit. I have 4 other recommendations for excellent Asian food with excellent service within 15 or less miles of this terribly awful place. Cake topper? The food was fresh enough and was seated on a small paper plate so I was unable to combine my meat rice and veggies. The "steamed" vegetables were stone cold but the AC seemed to by non-existent (at or above 80) . I moved to Elgin a year ago and fell in love with this place, it was a gem and a place where I could fulfill my Asian cravings. I wish I could say that under new management things have gone smoothly. However after two tries, I remain disappointed. The portions are significantly smaller on some entrees, there are a few price small increases, and the recipes have changed. The recipes are the biggest issue for me. The pho tastes more like a base of beef broth than cooked from a bone broth and is way too dark with possibly too much star anise, the general tso's chicken no longer tasted of good quality, the sauces were watered down and didn't taste right, and the Thai tea seemed watered down and overly sweet. The beef spring rolls seemed to have unseasoned beef, noodles, and lettuce, without much other herbs or vegetables. The dipping sauces were thin and the flavor was not correct for what the dishes would normally require. My first try I also had the beef Lo mein noodles which tasted okay, but seemed generic, with a portion size of half of what the previous owners would do. The fish sauce dip that comes with the Vietnamese dishes was something that I couldn't even figure out what they did to. I hope for good things for the new management, however I no longer enjoy the food here. Other dishes may taste fine, this is just what my experience was from getting my usuals and do not plan to return anytime soon. Hong Kong is our favorite Chinese food in Elgin and has great lunch specials. The atmosphere is relaxed with just simple decor and the owner is kind and helpful. Food is generally quick. It's a small place hidden in the shopping center next to where Bealls used to be and may not be easily seen. Don't let this stop you from checking out this hidden gem. read more

Really like this place, had no idea it was here. If this restaurant was in Austin it would be packed 24/7. Very good Pho and some of the if not the best bahn mi aroind. The Chinese food was really good as well. Never had hot and sour soup that good without going to a gourmet restaurant. Sometime in the first part of July 2017, the restaurant came under new management. I decided that I would give them a chance. I loved the previous staff; the service and food was always great, but I was definitely open. My first experience was me going in and sitting at a table. The people at the counter hollered at me to come up there to order. I went to the counter, had to stand there and look at the menu, then order. The order taker had no idea about what any of the food was, so that was definitely a bad sign. I ordered water and was told to go over to a different counter to get it...they were kind enough to ask if I wanted ice, though. Anyway, so I paid for my meal with a credit card, so I didn't leave a tip(it was apparent there was NO service, but I had cash just in case I needed to leave a tip). I was given a number, I got my water, then sat down at my table. Less than 10 minutes later, from behind the counter, they holler my number. So I went to the counter again to get my food...it was served on a flimsy, warped plastic tray with plate and bowl. I went back to my table, praying that the tray didn't fold and my food go flying. The food portion seemed a little bit less than with the previous management, but still acceptable. The food was also acceptable/good. I had to get up and go get my own water refills several times because the water glasses are probably 10oz glasses. I also have an issue with the hot mustard and sweet & sour sauce dispensers. I'm not sure how they are stored, but I don't think they are stored correctly. I tried to squirt some hot mustard out and a big glob of dried hot mustard shot out. Overall, I'm very disappointed. The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is because the food was acceptable. There is NO service whatsoever. I do not go here to have to walk around and serve myself. I guess on the plus side, I save money on tips because there is absolutely no service. The prices are also fair. I will probably go back, but grudgingly. read more

I've been going here since it was still a Chinese-American buffet. The Vietnamese options are really good (especially the beef pho) and the Chinese options for lunch are always nice when I want something a little closer and tastier than Panda Express. My only complaint is that the waitstaff are used to online orders and they struggle to take sit-down orders and deliver the correct food. Usually they mix up the drinks, the wrong thing with boba or the wrong kind of tea. More than a few times they've run back to double check the meat option on an order. I don't mind too much, since they'll usually fix it at no extra cost, but it can be a bit of a hassle if you're socially anxious. read more

Take my advice and skip this restaurant. We moved to Elgin last fall and were underwhelmed by the lack of variety in restaurant options. There's barbecue, Mexican food, fast food and--Hong Kong Restaurant. We've been here several times and never been completely happy with the food or service. Tonight we ordered sesame beef and sweet-and-sour chicken. A simple enough order, no? The lady on the phone told us our to-go order would be ready in fifteen minutes. Thirty minutes later, we were still waiting. There were five tables seated at the restaurant, and one other to-go order besides ours waiting with the tickets. When I finally complained about the wait, our food was bagged and we headed out the door. We got all the way home (15 minute drive) and realized that we were missing the sweet-and-sour sauce for our chicken. Have you ever had sauceless sweet-and-sour chicken? It's unimpressive. I called the restaurant and alerted them that my order was incomplete, and let me tell you, I have never had worse customer service in my life. The kid on the phone told me rudely that I should be more understanding of how busy they are. They can't be expected to make everything perfectly when they're so busy. Then he informed me he would let me come pick up (30 minutes round-trip? no thanks) some sauce. If five tables and a couple of to-go orders can cause such chaos that I can't expect my order to be completed properly (or for me to be treated with respect as a customer who didn't get what I paid for) then there is something seriously wrong with the management. Train your staff. The customer is not unreasonable to expect to be treated fairly. read more

Sooooo dang good! The pho didn't disappoint other than the fact that they ran out of bean sprouts but it was still so so very good! My son had the kids chicken nuggets and fries and I had to taste it before he would eat it and that was also very delicious. The portion sizes were HUGE. We also got sweet biscuits with our dinner and it was perfect. I barely had any room in my tummy but I made it happen anyway. We walked away with 3 to go containers with plenty of food leftover. Six adukts went today for the first time. We were very pleasantly surprised! Had the best hot and sour soup, steamed pork won tons, egg rolls, chicken wings, salt and pepper shrimp for our appetizers. All were top notch. Then we had sesame shrimp, sesame chicken, garlic vegetables, Mongolian beef, shrimp lomein, triple fried rice. Which was better? We all said the lomein was the best we all had eaten, but everything was so good! The only scary thing is we live only about 5 miles away so I'm afraid we will be the far too often!
