I'm a pku-vegetarian stuck working in Elgin and I am SICK of french fries. The combo veggie lunch special costs less than a burger combo almost anywhere and definitely less than side dishing at KFC/LJS or the city grill. For $5.35 I get my veggies (with spicy brown sauce!), some rice, a soup, and a veggie egg roll. Perfect! My coworkers also end up here quite frequently because it really is the best cheap non fast food meal you can get in Elgin. Where they're lacking in fanciness, they make it up with being all around pleasant, no fuss good eats, and if you eat there enough they remember how you like your order. :) read more

Sooooo dang good! The pho didn't disappoint other than the fact that they ran out of bean sprouts but it was still so so very good! My son had the kids chicken nuggets and fries and I had to taste it before he would eat it and that was also very delicious. The portion sizes were HUGE. We also got sweet biscuits with our dinner and it was perfect. I barely had any room in my tummy but I made it happen anyway. We walked away with 3 to go containers with plenty of food leftover. Definitely satisfied with our experience. It's not a fancy establishment but it's REALLY good food and that's the most important quality in my opinion. read more

Six adukts went today for the first time. We were very pleasantly surprised! Had the best hot and sour soup, steamed pork won tons, egg rolls, chicken wings, salt and pepper shrimp for our appetizers. All were top notch. Then we had sesame shrimp, sesame chicken, garlic vegetables, Mongolian beef, shrimp lomein, triple fried rice. Which was better? We all said the lomein was the best we all had eaten, but everything was so good! The only scary thing is we live only about 5 miles away so I'm afraid we will be the far too often! Im afraid we will be asked to show up in the Macys Thanksgiving Day parade for blimps! We will wave as we float by you! Had tons of leftovers for at least 2 meals! read more

This place is absolutely terrible since under new management. Came in today, sat June 9th. And none of the vietnamese items could be served. Their chef responsible for those items was out. If you can't serve more than half the menu, shut the place down for the day. I should have also taken it as an ill omen when we were the only customers there at 1 in the afternoon on a Saturday. When I went to get my water at the self service station all of the glass were still wet from being cleaned and I guess never dried. They all smelled of whatever cleaning product was used. I dug waaaayyy down in the pile and found a dry one. Our soup took about 15 minutes to come out along with the eggrolls and rangoon. The hot and sour soup was the best part of the meal Their egroll filling tasted as though they had been left on the shelf for too long and the vegetables were starting to go bad. The crab rangoon had little to no crab to speak of. It was basically just a wonton wrapper with cream cheese. No hint of any other ingredient or attempt at flavor. The dumplings finally came out at the same time as our entrees and were alright, nothing you couldn't pick up in a freezer section at HEB and fry yourself. The fried rice was bland, it was pretty much just steamed rice with a little soy sauce mixed in. The orange beef was the worst I'd ever eaten. Soggy crust, chewy gamey beef. It left an aftertaste in my mouth not too dissimilar to liver. Which, I like liver, but orange beef shouldn't leave that taste in your mouth. The only flavor in the sauce was sugar. We were there for an hour and we never saw another customer, I guess people know better than to eat there. read more

Very extensive Chinese and Vietnamese menu. Everything I have ordered has been good. Great little gem.

The owner is something else. Don't want to give more than 4 soy sauce packages after I spent $40. Come on, really. They never answer when I call to TRY to place an order, its like they are so lazy there. Always trying to give this restaurant the benefit of the doubt, I'm so done. Pretty good restaurant to get your Chinese fix as you travel. I've had much better Chinese but I've had much worse. People are nice and the food is good. Overall I give it a three since I've been at 5 star Chinese. Would definitely stop there again for a quick lunch. read more

So, my family and I have been back several times and it's always first rate. You may have a long wait for your food 'cause they make every order fresh. When did Service become Self-service...Felt more like going through a school cafeteria and the lunch lady had an actual Adam's apple...Asian restaurants have never been very welcoming, yet disguised as dining is more like a cafeteria without the visual signage of where next to walk to. You are not greeted, sit yourself first or go straight to the counter, order your food, then proceed to the beverage/cutlery station. Self service where anybody can manhandle the cutlery, disposable napkins and no sneeze guard where you help yourself to the cooler with ice(whether everyone uses the scoop or uses their hands-whi would know). Yes, there are cameras around, yet no real observance. Also, the station is literally within a few steps of the bathroom..not an influence of hygiene/health regulation overall. In the years that we have once in awhile go w there, the disservice has quickly declined as the portions and quality. Future visits are truly not upcoming; will instead to go have pizza or elsewhere is better. read more

I love this place. Bubble tea here is one of the best I've ever had, the wait for it is definitely worth it.

The food here was pretty decent. We had sesame chicken - white/dark mix chunks are smaller than other places - and crab Rangoon which was fresh and good amount of cream cheese. Overall decent. Entirely self-service tho. read more

I love this place. I only get one item but it works for me. I get general Tso's chicken with fried rice, an egg roll and egg drop soup. The place looks horrible, super out dated but, the food is delicious. They did mess up my order last time I went, left out egg roll and gave me the wrong soup so make sure you check before leaving but that was only one time out of many visits. Lady working is quick and nice. They start cooking your food after you order so it's fresh. I used to go in and it would take around 15 mins but now I call ahead and it's always ready for pick up. read more

This is one of the worst Chinese places I have ever eaten at. We have tried it on many occasions and each time wondered why on earth we came back. The last straw was when I ordered the noodles, they use spaghetti noodles!!!! Seriously? I was shocked! Don't bother with this place. On two different occasions I have gone there expecting to find better service than the first time; recently. Have been a couple times when they first opened and throughout the years, yet lately their service has been plummeting to the worst. Convenience is sometimes a bad expectation of local "restaurants". The first time, this month I went and we were seated appropriately and our drink orders were taken, appetizers delivered in fair time, but our entrees seemed like a lifetime to receive. This last time, we were seated, yet they seemed more concerned with their take out orders and people just coming in to place orders for takeout than for the patrons seated dining in. After we politely asked to get service for our drink orders; then were greeted so dryly by the young femaile who seemed to be more concerned with leaving as soon as she came to the table (no eye contact). Even after informing her we were ready to take our order there and then...she quickly exited with a minimum of four words and just disappeared into the kitchen. Another female adult seemed more concentrated on taking the take out order of another patron; ignoring the tables completely and that gentleman was able to get his order quickly and leave way before our appetizer order was even placed and we never had our meal order taken. It was very disappointing that your regular patrons get ignored, while others are just out the door as quick as they arrived. Did not realize fast food was more the style of all restaurants; then why offer dining in. I have worked in a restaurant and that kind of behavior is automatic failure for a business to thrive and continue on, anywhere. I definitely do not recommend this place to anyone; for these past few years their service is in complete downfall and their attitude towards their patrons is complete apathy. I strongly suggest-if you want chinese---go somewhere else, but here (unless you like this sort of treatment). Go to Koy or HEB; they are a whole lot friendlier and more customer service oriented!!! read more

Ordered take-out and was impressed with how fast it was ready. However, ordered the sweet & sour chicken and when I got home, discovered the sweet & sour sauce was missing so I was left with just dry chicken. Also the rest of the food was cold. The man inside was very kind, but very upset that the entire purpose of the meal I ordered was missing. read more

Seemed dirty, there were 6 tables that needed to be bussed. Food was typical Chinese fair.

They have great shrimp fried rice, & sesame seed shrimp. But there egg rolls have no flavor at all. They are short on staff so it's slow.

This is my go to for Chinese food. I love this place! The food is always good. I like my chicken cooked well, the cheese wontons are amazing and the wonton soup is wonderful. I made the mistake of going to Koy on a Sunday because I really wanted Chinese food and this place was closed. Next time I will just wait until a day they are open! read more

I really like the Hong Kong Chinese restaurant in Elgin. I drive over when I get a chance from Bastrop because I feel the food is better than the two Chinese restaurants we have in town. The service is always friendly & fast, & the casual atmosphere suits me just fine for a quick Lunch or dinner. It is actually some of the best Chinese food I have found in a small town. Don't really care who manages this location, hell will freeze over before I ever step foot in this place or call in an order. Don't get me wrong, the lady that we placed the order was a dream, no problems at all there. I should have known that when I went to pick up the food, it was a little warm the closer I got to the kitchen. The lady behind the counter was the same that we'd called in our order too, so no problems there again. The portions were extremely large, and had the content been good would have served as several meals. The rice tasted like they were trying to figure out how to make combination fried rice (beef, chicken, and shrimp), and the beef & shrimps were decent. Nothing to write home about at all but edible none the less. The orange chicken was decent as well. The chicken took us on the dark side, is the best way to describe it. My wife became so sick that she threw up constantly for the next two days. I also had stomach issues as well, but not as much as she did. The doctor she had to go to indicated that the stomach virus she developed could have come from the fact that the chicken might have been undercooked or improper refrigeration. She's still taking medication from eating the food as I'm writing this review. Tried to support a local business, but this was the first and last time we will patron this eatery. read more

Hong Kong is a small restaurant with red-and-white checked tablecloths and a TV going. They make reliably good dishes, including most of the standard oriental restaurant fare. Portions are generous and prices are low to moderate. I've been eating there for more than ten years, and the food has always been good. read more

Ok. It's Elgin. Just glad there isn't bbq or an enchilada on the menu. This is a family run business. Clean as a whistle with predictable "Chinese" fare. The food is good, the service excellent. If you need your Chinese fix, this is as good as any in a small town. read more

We've eaten at Hong Kong tons of times over the years, and so I was nervous to see they were under new management. However we got our usual last night, and it was delicious. The recipes appear the same. The wonton soup did taste more like au jus....but other than that, very pleased! read more
