    SP5. Pad Thai Lemongrass Chicken

Full of flavor! Quaint restaurant with friendly and quick service. So many options to choose from, I couldn't decide what to get.

I agree with the bad reviews here. The food is not worth it. My wife wanted to try someplace new for Thai food so we came here. She asked for Pra Ram with NO spice (even says so on my receipt). Now the peanut sauce (that was sauce? Eww). No. It was greasy peanut soup. there was a lot of hot pepper in it and the tofu was cooked with black pepper which was not expected and there still was plenty of red peppers in the sauce so it was still spicy despite ordering with NO spice . As for the black pepper thing .. no other Thai place does this that I know of. WTF? I tried some of her dish. Now I like Thai food, but this stuff, NO. It tastes like it looks in the pictures. Gross. The peanut sauce left a bad aftertaste that would not go away until we went straight home and brushed & used Listerine, but I still taste it an hour later, and it's a slimy, oily sugar taste. Yuck. Service was no better than the food either. The woman who took our order did not come back to check on us or offer anything to drink except for the two glasses of water she brought out. I really thought she could care less if we were there or not. We both feel a bit queasy after eating here. Seriously. Go someplace else. Don't waste your time or money here. This place takes first place for the worst Thai food in Salem. I'm calling it as I see it - I'd rather eat McDonalds than this crap. The other guy who posted a one star review from 6/17/2022 is 100% right. They should change the name of the place to TOUGH LUCK THAI. If you want good Thai food, go look downtown on Liberty Street, not here. We're never coming back, and I am telling my friends & coworkers about this too. Sorry if the pictures look disgusting. Just showing you how bad it truly is. Be good to yourself and go somewhere else. ------- A day later here, my wife's mouth is inflamed and the left side of her face is swollen. She has not had anything else to eat since yesterday when we were there. I think she got some sort of food poisoning which I am reporting.

The larb was sweet and nasty, no lime, no fish sauce, no basil. Inedible. The crab fried rice had hard shells in it, had no flavor other than fishy taste. It too was inedible. The Togo order took 20 minutes and the girl at the cash register was on her phone the entire time. She barely acknowledged us and we saw a group of people leave without ordering while she was on the phone. We tried eating it at home and ended up throwing it away and eating chili dogs instead. We will never return or recommend this place to anyone we remotely like.

Bad service, rude staff, dirty bathrooms. Food was OK but if the health department came in, pretty sure they'd be shut down! Won't be going here again!

    L10. Pad Kee Mao Lunch
    Jacob C.

Ordered the #10 lunch special, pad kee mao. I was asked how spicy a wanted it on a scale of 5. I like things pretty spicy so I went with 4. It was really spicy. I called in my to go order, was told it would be fifteen minutes and I think that's exactly how long it took. I will go back and explore the menu a bit further.

Nam Kaw Tod with chicken instead of fermented pork. Acidic, crispy, and delicious. 5 stars.

Thai food is my favorite. Just moved to Salem and this is the first place I tried takeout from. It was delicious! Ordered something I've never had before, NAM KAW TOD advertised as a crispy rice dish with lettuce to make wraps (listed under the salad section). They had me at crispy rice. When I called in the order the gentleman on the phone let me know it comes with fermented pork, but offered to make it with chicken as well. I opted for chicken the first go-around. It was everythingggg. Crispy, acidic, strong lemongrass flavors. Simply, delicious. Also ordered the GREEN CURRY. Equally tasty, only personal disappointment was that it did not include eggplant but I'm sure that's a win for some people lol. I ordered everything at a medium heat level- they offer mild, medium, hot and Thai hot. I still found the medium pretty dang spicy, so just beware if this is an issue for you. So happy I found this place. Dozens of more dishes I'm excited to try beyond the typical offerings.

Best Thai I've found in Oregon since moving here a few years ago!! I wish we lived closer! HUGE portions, accurate spice level for what you order (they do a 1-5 scale) and we even got little dumpling things upon arrival as a free appetizer (looked like the Chinese shu mai). My husband and I each had leftovers to take home, and especially with our love of Thai food that really is saying something about how much food you get for the price here! ;)

I had the Chicken Pad Kee Mao - Spicy. Great taste! Plenty of veggies. Very filling. If you can't handle spicy food. I recommend requesting mild heat.

4.5 stars! Had fried pot stickers and shrimp salad rolls appetizers that were very good. The shrimp rolls came with a delicious peanut sauce. Tried the chicken fried rice and was excellent! Best fried rice that I've ever had!!!!!!!!!!!

Pad Thai with Lemongrass chicken (right), Chicken Satay with Cucumber Salad and Peanut Sauce (left)
    Sheena H.

Came across this restaurant while passing through Salem. Easy to find location in a shopping strip not far from I-5. The staff was friendly with quick service. Shared an order of their Lemongrass Chicken Pad Thai (definitely enough for 2 people to share!) The noodles were well dressed and you could really taste the lemon grass flavor on the grilled chicken. Also ordered an appetizer of the Chicken Satay, moist and flavorful. But even better when dipped in their gracious serving of Peanut Sauce. The side of Cucumber Salad really cuts through the saltiness giving way to a wonderful balance. Will definitely being adding this to my restaurant rotation when in the area.

Yun Woon Sen added Seafood and chicken. This salad is absolutely the best!!

Hands down the best Thai food in South Salem (there are 5 Thai restaurants plus the Blue Thai truck…read morein South Salem--I recommend all but one). And easily the best Thai in South Salem, West Salem, or Keizer. Have only tried one place on Lancaster, so I can't claim it's the best in Salem. The chef/owner makes all of her own sauces and Thai curries from scratch and they are all amazing compared to all the commercial premade sauces and curry pastes used by almost everyone else. Her homemade Pad Thai sauce blew my wife and I away, and she doesn't skimp on it like other places. You could taste the freshly soaked tamarind and lots of other awesome flavors. Her homemade Thai yellow curry in the Golden Chicken curry (totally different than Indian yellow curry) was floral and very tasty--unlike any other Thai yellow curry I've had elsewhere. Highly recommend the Golden Chicken curry, the Shrimp Ceramic Pot with what appeared to be tasty mung beans noodles, and of course the Pad Thai. The Thai basil chicken was good another time, but wasn't significantly better than other places. My wife ordered a side of peanut sauce (because most places skimp on their pad thai sauce they probably buy at an Asian grocery store) but there was too much going on in it for us--plus when the Pad Thai arrived, it needed nothing added to it, was perfect as it was. But I bet that homemade peanut sauce would be awesome if cooked into something else, which is probably what it's for. The salt and pepper fried calamari was also great--and cut differently than any other Thai or Chinese restaurant in Salem. I ordered my dishes "spicy" and they really weren't hot at all--catered to an American palette--I drizzled some of her hot chile oil on, and was great. We also love dining in here as opposed to takeout. The seating is spacious, spread out enough, and the atmosphere is quiet with some low volume music. The decor is obviously Thai, but in no way overdone or gaudy. Very relaxing atmosphere. Plenty of people came in both times I've gone to pick up take-out orders, so I'm sure it's good. The location is on the east side of South Commercial up in that elevated strip mall before you get to Kuebler across from MAPS Credit Union. We are definitely going back there a 3rd time--and hopefully I'll order something new instead of reordering what I already know is amazing--which will probably be hard for me, because I'm already craving what I've already had. Service was also very friendly and attentive. The owner/chef made several trips around the dining room to make sure everyone's meals were fine. If I had three hands, I'd give this place three enthusiastic thumbs up!

Big Blue Thai BBQ is everything that I could ever want from Thai food. Our main dish was the Grilled Pork and Papaya Salad combo and it was absolutely addicting. While the food was amazing, the real star of the show were the lovely people that operate the truck. They were both so genuinely friendly and welcoming and made our experience exponentially better. The sauce that came with it was remarkable -- sweet, savory, and totally crave-worthy. We ate outside and it was a really nice setup. Staff wasn't great. Relaxed, clean, and a great vibe for enjoying food truck-style Thai BBQ. My husband ordered one of the spicy dishes (unfortunately I can't remember the name), and just a heads-up -- it was next level spicy. He's a total spice connoisseur and has eaten some seriously intense heat, but this was the first time I've ever seen him unable to finish a dish. So definitely be careful if you're spice-sensitive! That said, it was still a 5-star experience overall. Amazing food, friendly atmosphere, and definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.
