You can get it on with your books (or laptop, free wi-fi!) here for hours. If you're lucky, snag one of the booths. You can hook up your laptop to the flat screen. Pretty neat. Space isn't as big of an issue compared to the Starbucks nearby, but finding a spot can be difficult sometimes when one person hogs a table. It's part of the library though, so ultimately, you shouldn't be aggressively hunting for a seat for that long. read more

Where you studying tonight? "Claremont" Honnold Cafe and the Honnold Mudd library have been good to me over the years. I go to a local university that doesn't really have any desirable places to study so I became very familiar with this place. I like that there is a cafe on the first floor of more of a relaxed coffee shop studying environment and the floors above of library space for some quiet studying. There used to be free wifi here for everyone, but I think with the influx of students not attending any of the Claremont Colleges they disabled the free "CINE" wifi for good. Makes sense because of the signs I've seen around the library stating that they'll kick out non-Claremont students. Thanks for being a nice place for me to study Claremont and never kicking me out or towing my car parked in 20 minute parking on 8th street. read more

Honnold Cafe - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Claremont, California

Talk about tucked away. While it's in the Honnold/Mudd library, it's more of a big study room + cafe, so you don't necessarily have to keep quiet, but most people here are in study mode. Plenty of booths and tables abound, and WiFi is open (if you use the CINE network). The building is open until 1am on most nights, the coffee bar is open until 12:30am (though last call for espresso drinks happened at 11pm tonight). Besides coffee, they have smoothie drinks, sodas, juices, breads/pastries, and light lunch items. The butternut squash soup is actually pretty decent. I had a cup of soup and an Odwalla for just over $5. It's too bad I didn't learn about this place sooner, I can see myself being a regular here. read more

If I could give this sorry excuse for a Cafe 0 stars I would. I ordered a grilled cheese, but what I got was 3 pieces of warm cheese on bread (also one of the pieces was the bread butt?!?!). When I asked if the cheese sandwich could be grilled (making it the grilled cheese that I ordered), they said that they could not do so after I had accepted it. I wish I had taken a picture, but I was truly in such shock of how bad the warm cheese sandwich tasted to document the experience. Instead, you will just have to trust me. This was hands down the worst thing I've ever eaten - it's literally just bread and cheese, how can anyone mess that up? Perhaps I should applaud the Honnold Cafe for being innovators in creating the first inedible combination of cheese and bread, two of the most delicious things on this planet. read more

As a student at the Claremont Colleges, this place has been a life-saver over my past four years here. The regular coffee could be better, but the cappuccino make up for it. Their red eye is also pretty effective. I'm glad they brought back the sushi option, and the staff offer good customer service (to the extent that they can considering they are short-staffed sometimes). read more

I love studying here! It's not too quiet and not too loud. Lots of seating, lots of outlets. My roomie says the coffee sucks but that's fine, I'll just stop at Starbucks on the way :) not TOO cold but bring a sweater. The soap in the bathroom smells a bit weird. The last thing is that you don't get internet access unless you're a student there... great for people like me who are super distracted by all things internet! Great place to come if you want to get some hardcore studying done. They have the cafe area with couches and tables that's more casual, or upstairs you can find private tables isolated within book shelves where you can find undisturbed silence for your study needs. A-maze-ing. If you want to study in a place that's not SUPER quiet or loud at all, then here's the place. There are booths (like in a restaurant) tables, and couches for you to sit/study at. Oh, Honnold Cafe, you are so good. As the previous reviewer said, tucked away in the Honnold/Mudd Library, but a true gem! The atmosphere is what makes the place; the booths, tables, comfy chairs, and excellent lighting make it an oasis within The Claremont Colleges. The cafe just feels like you are out of the typical Claremont setting! The many flat-screen TVs with the headlines of the day and news from Claremont University Consoritium are welcome as well and make the place modern! As for the food and drink, it's one of the better cups of coffee at the Colleges. Being able to get espresso late-night saved me second semester. I was also surprised to find that they had boxed sushi available which, although not restaurant quality, at a price tag of $4 was quite good! Lots of other tasty food and beverage available as well for decent prices. Overall, one of my favorite spots in Claremont to study with friends, work, and have some alone time need be. Their location makes up for a lot that I wouldn't otherwise tolerate. When the library is freezing cold and you just need *something* to warm you up without schlepping to the Motley or downtown Claremont, this is the place. Their coffee is decent--nothing to write home about, but not Maxwell's either. I appreciate they stock healthy-ish snacks (fresh fruit, hardboiled eggs, personal sized dark chocolate fair trade bars) along side the chips and cookies. They do have GF cookies and chips for those that need. Their bottled drink selection is quite nice (Stumptown 16oz coldbrew, Kevita probiotic drinks-I like the mojito, and various brands of coconut water)--but holy hell, their prices on some bottled drinks is OUTRAGEOUS (cf. Pretty good stuff at the cafe. Really good iced tea and the best Everything Bagel!!! Speciality drinks and the baristas are down to earth. I will definitely come more of often during the school year. read more

Bad customer service. They made my drink wrong and then threw it away before telling me I had to pay for another one. It was probably a miscommunication but they shouldn't have made me pay for 2 drinks. If he didn't throw it away without telling me I had to pay again I would have just kept the first one. read more

This is a good place to study with friends. It's not dead silent in here, but quiet enough and there's easy access to coffee and restrooms. However, they do mark up the prices on their bottled drinks. We bought one of those small Odwalla juices for FIVE dollars. You can buy a half gallon for $6 at the store. I have to admit, the milkshake maker is really cool. I'll have to give that a try next time. The best thing about this place is that it's open late. read more

They sell danishes and cupcakes from SomeCrust now! SOMECRUST WITH FLEX!!!! These workers are not super-skilled at making espressos, but it's closer than walking to Starbucks. It can get really noisy sometimes, so it's not the best place to study, but it has a good atmosphere and the decor is much nicer than upstairs in the rest of the library. read more

A few weeks ago I had a bad experience with the service at the cafe and with the product. This was surprising to me since I usually have such a great experience at the cafe and it is usually my go to place before work. I wrote a review at the time about it, but following the experience I talked to Esmi who has always been my favorite person at the cafe.
