First time we went a few months back it was fair. Thought we'd have a business lunch there with clients. Party of 7. Upon arrival, two of us were there first to get a table. I think there 8 or 10 people total inside eating. We were told by the hostess that our entire party would have to be there before they would seat us. Again, the place was EMPTY! So we stood there waiting for a few minutes and a server came up and told her not to seat us in the section with larger tables for 8, because that waiter was in a pissy mood. So they were going to cram 7 of us around a table for 6. At this point, I asked if we were an inconvenience, and she rolled her eyes at me. Therefore we left. Came in at around 6 and the place was hopping! The hostess and manager were at the front and were so sweet. Our waiter was very considerate and helpful. If you're ordering a margarita, the mango one is great! The calamari appetizer was yummy and we ordered the Cajun boil, a crab cluster and half pound of crawfish. The original Cajun, spice level: spicy was the perfect amount of heat. Everything was so delicious and we left nothing for leftovers. We will be coming back! read more

I have had hook n reel in Amarillo and loved it...however the one here in Lubbock was horrible. I ordered crab legs and shrimp in my boil. The crab was super soft and grainy, and tasted super fishy and not meaty at all. The shrimp was super chewy and undercooked. The service was okay, however it seemed they weren't interested in helping, and just helped me to get me out. Will not return to Hook n Reel jn Lubbock. read more

I had the Shrimp & Catfish Basket with Cajun fries, a salad, and an order of hushpuppies. The best thing I ate was the salad and Cajun fries. The hushpuppies and Catfish were less than average. While the service was friendly and attentive, their appearance was repugnant. The food was very, very average at best. What astounded me the most was $9.00 for a 20 oz. My husband and I just moved to Lubbock from East Texas where crawfish is a known speciality among the locals. To prepare them, you MUST soak them in ice water, a process called "burping." This extracts the Poo from the crawfish. Also, if a crawfish's tail is straight after boiling that means the crawfish was dead before cooking and needs to be discarded. My husband and I both ordered crawfish this past Saturday at Hook & Reel and were unable to even eat them. They do not burp their crawfish which is disgusting to try and eat if not done. Also, I had a crawfish with straight tail in mine. Luckily, I knew better than to try and eat. Sauce was delicious. We both just ate the corn and potatoes then left disappointed. The 2 products were basically indistinguishable from each other. Zero Cajun spice? Might as well have been eating some kind of chicken tenders from DQ. The marinara sauce had a metallic taste. Get the Hook and Reel special blend on your boil (hot or spicy), it's great flavor! Gumbo is NOT GUMBO. But Crab balls are yummy! I could tell management was bothered we sat at an 8 top with 2 adults and 4 kids but that's where the hostess sat us. We still spent $130. Justice, our waitress, took the gumbo off our ticket after I told her "that's not real gumbo" that was super nice of her and management. I'm glad to see more seafood in Lubbock. We wondered if it was the one that wrote a nasty review about Management. Anyway, calamari was tough and really greasy. My crap salad was nothing to write home about. Lettuce was fresh. My date's catfish po-boy....where to start... First, we had to request silverware but only got forks. The sandwich came out as a huge greasy, greasy pile of fried fish. There was no way to eat it. Best seafood boil in Lubbock! We ordered three separate boils with different seasoning and spice levels in each. All three were delicious. Our favorite was the Reel Catch (lobster tail, snow crab, shrimp and muscles) with the special blend flavoring and spice level fire. read more

(This review is long overdue as I meant to post it about a month ago.) My family and I (a group of 7) went to Hook and Reel on Feb. 20th for dinner. My brother and his roommates got there first and were told there was a 45 minute wait, so they got on the waitlist, and we all walked over to the bar to have some drinks while waiting. There was only one bartender and she was busting her butt so we waited patiently to order. My two siblings and my brother's roommates order first, and when it was my turn I told her that all of the drinks will be on one tab, to which she replied with "oh, you're all together?" I said yes and my parents and I ordered our drinks. A couple of minutes go by, and a manager (I think she was asian) walks up, gets in my dad's face and loudly asks "what's the problem over here??" As my poor dad looked at her in utter shock and confusion (as did the rest of us), she continued with the loud questioning.. "What's the problem? Are you the group of 20 that got in my hostess' face and made her cry?" She then looked over at the bartender and asked "if this was the group" to which the bartender replied "I think so." (There were two other couples sitting by us in bewilderment and watching all of this take place.) Then this manager abruptly walks away and another few minutes later, another manager comes up and apologized to us for their mistake. Finally, our bartender makes us our drinks, while saying she wasn't initially going to serve us because she thought we "were the group of 20 that got in the hostess' face." We noticed that there was a camera by the bar, and we were all confused on how such a mistake was made... shouldn't a manager at least CHECK the camera and VERIFY it's the right person before any sort of confrontation? Couldn't she have noticed that we did NOT look like a group of 20?? Either way, it was humiliating. One star because our waitress Bree was awesome. read more

I had good service but the food was not great. The beer was warm, no wet wipes like at most boil places. Also only a boil side place to eat, so if you enjoy the fried foods more it won't be for you. Been here before and enjoyed the food. Disappointed tonight as the manager flat out lied. Wouldn't let my 19 and 20 year olds sit at the bar, which I'm fine with if that's the company policy, but don't lie to my face and tell me that it's TABC law (which it's not), so very unhappy with that aspect. Considered leaving due to the principle of the situation, but stayed and had a very nice waitress. May revisit one day, but no time soon. read more
