My friend and I came here for the first time and ordered the crispy fish n chips, grilled fish burrito, and crispy fish tacos to share. Portions were huge and we only got through the fish n chips and tacos lol. We split the burrito and took the burrito home. The fish n chips were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside without it being greasy. Nicely seasoned fries. The crispy tacos were also amazing with fresh toppings and flavor. They came with sauces which we also really liked. The burrito was the only one we thought was okay, mostly because the grilled fish lacked a bit of seasoning, but the ingredients in all 3 orders was really fresh. The place was small and it was highly packed with limited seating so we did wait awhile for the order but overall we really enjoyed the food here and would definitely come back. The more I try it, the more I appreciate Hook Fish. It really is some of the freshest seafood you can find and the portions are rather large. Although I'm still not too crazy for fish and chips, after trying other places around the city, this is the best you can get. But my favorite dishes are the red curry with salmon and the poke plate. The red curry is made like a Japanese curry with added thai red curry paste. Slightly coconutty and buffed with potatoes and carrots, it's such a comforting dish. It's a rotating soup though, so you might not find it all the time. The poke plate comes with two large scoops of tuna, rice, avocados, black beans, pico de gallo, and cabbage. It's super refreshing and I just feel healthier by eating it. The tuna chunks are large and perfectly seasoned in sesame oil and soy sauce. Of course I still drown my dish in half a bottle of their habanero carrot sauce, but that's just how I do it. It's not bad but it's not worth the wait for me personally. especially the sunset location. make the drive to Marin something about waiting in sunshine with a beer in hand makes waiting a non issue. When the weather is nice be prepared to wait 20 minutes to order and another hour for the food to come out. That said, staff is lovely and not frazzled despite how busy they get. Fish tacos get soggy and become impossible to eat. There has to be a better quality tortilla or something to prevent them from getting so soggy. Don't plan on traveling with them. The better option is the fish plate where you get more fish and is easier to eat. The pozole is also delicious with a complementary spice to the lime. Although we didn't get it this time, the poke and chips are delicious and you can smell the sesame oil immediately. The portions were perfect for me as I was able to finish both . If I had to pick between the two I'll do the fish and chips. The fish was so tender it was falling apart and for a kids meal they gave me good amount of fries. The fries where more in the crispy end, so if you like it extra crispy you'll love it. Some of the best fish and chips I've ever tried! Batter was super light and crispy, and complemented the most tender, flaky fish incredibly well. Make sure to add a dab of tartar sauce to each bite as well. Nothing too notable about the fries, though there were plenty of them. It took over an hour for our food to be ready (we went on a weekend), but it was well worth it! Tried out Hook Fish and got the three-piece fish & chips along with a pineapple mint fresco. Gotta say, the fish was nice and crunchy with a decent beer batter. Now, they gave me the usual tartar sauce, but also this carrot habanero hot sauce--bright orange, a little spicy, and really good. Waited around an hour for the food after ordering (which there was also a line for), but this was one of the BEST poke dishes I've ever had. The fish was incredibly fresh and the texture was not chewy at all. The restaurant was extremely crowded both indoors and outdoors and we took our food to eat at a nearby park instead of being cramped on one of the benches outdoors, which I'd recommend. i'm always a sucker for hook fish when it comes to their fish & chips. it's best to come during off-peak hours if you can or else, you'll be waiting in line. i always see families gathering around the outdoor seating and patio area. personally, i'll walk over to ocean beach and eat there for a greater view. it's not too long of wait, i'd say 15 minutes max when it's not packed but you could wait more than 30 minutes if it is. i got the two peice fish & chips ($19 w/o tax) and the cut of fish is huge. well worth the price if i'd say. crisp beer battered exterior and a soft tender fish inside. Located "way out" near ocean beach in the Sunset Neighborhood District. Small store front with a pickup window. You go inside to place your order and get the buzzer. No seating inside but a good sized outside parklet seating / table area. It was busy so it took a little while to get our food but not bad at all. They have a decent menu of "fish related" items from fish n chips to tacos, burritos, salad and sandwiches. We had the 3pcs fish and chips. OH man so good! light, flaky fish and crisp battered crust. Well...it was a bit arduous to back out now, considering we parked three blocks away and walked about 10 minutes, then waited another 10 minutes in line to order. Speaking off...Hook Fish is basically in the middle of the neighborhood, so parking it very challenging. The venue is tiny, no room inside to sit down, it does have an open kitchen where you can see your feed being made. I did not have a great experience here the first time but I'm glad I gave this place another chance! The first time I came here, I waited for more than 45 minutes for a poke plate that I ordered in the store. There was barely anywhere to sit since it was so packed on a Saturday afternoon. Poke plate came with poke, rice, cabbage, radishes, pico, black beans, avocados and a side of aioli. At the time, it felt like the plate was mostly just unflavored black beans and cabbage and the poke was extremely fishy and mushy. Tried this place again and got the poke burrito, with no black beans. Ordered ahead online so it was ready by the time I came. It was delicious! The tortilla was perfectly toasted, and despite removing the beans, the burrito was still packed with fillings and was huge! Hook Fish Co is located near Ocean beach in San Francisco. They have a counter where you can see the fish available for purchase as well as how and where they were caught. There is another counter and register to place orders for food and drinks.  I visited on a Saturday night right before they closed and this place was packed! After you order they give you a buzzer and you can select a place to sit. They have outdoor seating options only so be sure to dress for the weather!  We ordered the poke and chips for a starter and it was so fresh and flavorful! I am still thinking about this and would hands down go back just to have this again. We also ordered the plate with fresh fish, black beans, rice, avocado, pico de gallo, pickled slaw, and spicy aioli. Amazing fish tacos near ocean beach! They're so good that you're pretty much guaranteed to have a wait. However, it goes by quickly with a bookstore + coffee shop across the street and a 5 min walk to Ocean Beach. You can order in advance which helps to avoid the wait in line! After ordering, you'll get an estimated time for pickup. It was a busy day and ours was about ~1 hour after ordering. Seating is all outdoors and also limited. We got the blackened tuna tacos and poke tacos. Both were SO delicious!! I do think the blackened tuna was slightly overcooked though which made it a bit dry. Still amazing flavor! The burrito seemed like it has unnecessary carbs on it...the tortilla and the rice and masks the delicious fish. The carrot habanero was barely spicy and I think hot Cheetos are spicy. While chatting I forgot this wasn't your average hot sauce bottle where you need shake it like a Polaroid picture and accidentally doused the last of my burrito in the sauce. Despite that it still didn't taste spicy and more like vinegar with a hint of spicy flavor. I loved that the kid's plate had stuff my daughter loved - black beans, rice, grilled fish, avocado. I really liked the versatility of all their menu items. They really let you customize everything from how your items are cooked to what kind of fish they grill or fry. I never thought poke would work in a burrito but it does! It was delicious and very fresh tasting with slaw and beans. Fish and chips had a beautiful and crispy light batter. Loved this seafood resto in outer richmond! We got there early (before they opened) on a sat to beat the line and it def worked. The line came in waves so was not sure if it was necessary to come that early. I got the poke plate and it was a decent amount of food, it looked and tasted super awesome! i was stuffed afterwards. my friend got the poke tacos and that looked delicious too, but was definitely less food than the plate. Hook Fish is one of my favorite spots in the city for fresh and delicious fish. Their outdoor space is a lot of fun and perfect for a warm sunny day and the food comes out quite quickly even though there is often a line.
