We saw the commercial on the Atlanta station and the real thing was even better! Every waiter/waitress is warm and friendly. Because of its setting in a residential district, I felt like I was on the east coast at a local neighborhood bar. I really wish that we were able us to award half stars because I would have given HLS a solid 3.5. Although we took a Lyft, it was nice to see that there is ample parking and the restaurant is easy to find. We were greeted warmly by our hostess as soon as we arrived and had a great server. She was very busy, but managed to stay attentive. We started with the calamari. I can't say I'd order it again. It was cornmeal dusted and had the strangest seasoning. We spent a few minutes as a table trying to figure out what it was. We decided it was cumin, but who knows. It tasted really weird. I was disappointed because they were cooked perfectly. We also ordered a vodka cucumber drink - The description sounded heavenly, but it tasted like cucumber water. If I came back, I'd go with wine or beer. Our dinner, however, was noteworthy. I had the blackened grouper and it was wonderful - easoned and cooked perfectly. I was a little concerned about the portion sizes after looking at pics on Yelp, but I received 2 generously portioned filets. I ordered fried Brussels and they forgot them. I was really disappointed when a greasy bowl of barely cooked Brussels were rushed out. I would have been willing to wait for them to be cooked properly. Hubs ended up sharing his with me. I've been wanting to try this place and finally my husband was in the mood for seafood and willing to try a new seafood spot. Located in the West Village area in Smyrna right off 285, Hook Line and Schooner is a perfect place for great service and even better food! There's plenty of parking so no need to worry but depending on how busy the area is, you may have to take a stroll but it won't be too far. I did make reservations and when we arrived, we were greeted by a very pleasant young lady and promptly seated. Our waiter, Brandon came to our table prettt quickly and introduced himself and gave us an overview of what HL&S has to offer. Something about a good waiter can make an experience that much better. Anyway, we started with the seafood nachos and I immediately ascended to Heaven after the first taste! I mean there's a plate full of tortilla chips and it's topped with queso, tomatoes, lettuce, a ton of shrimp, corn, and jalapenos. I mean I could've just had this and still gave 5 stars but I realized I wanted to actually try an entree. The stuffed shrimp, shrimp scampi, shrimp & grits were allllll calling my name but the stuffed shrimp won. The shrimp were full of crabmeat and it was so good. There was steamed broccoli and roasted potatoes drizzled with a lemon dill sauce. Only thing I did not like was the food was a little cold and the potatoes had no seasoning and were a little undercooked butttt the shrimp made up for it. I enjoyed my dinner here, I really just wished they didn't grill the oysters as long. The grilled oysters were good but they tasted more smoked than anything. The fried seafood platter was good with great flavor. This dish came with fried shrimp, scallops, hush puppies and fish. We visited for an early dinner and were greeted and seated quickly. The decor is what you would expect for a fun seafood restaurant. They had a cute bar to the right and a large main dining area with both tables and booths. We grabbed a booth and within minutes of chatting with our waitress, Patricia, we knew we were going to have a good time. She was funny, friendly and helped us select our delicious dishes. I started with a 1/2 dozen oysters for $10. Not cheap, but when you get the craving you just go for it. They were tasty, although a couple of them were kinda small. House cocktail sauce and plenty of horseradish makes for a perfect combo on top of a cracker. Yum! For my main entree I had the jerk chicken because I'm not a huge seafood fan (although I partake in oysters - I know, it's weird). This jerk chicken was really good. Not too spicy, but still great flavor. Plenty of seasoning and then topped with a garnish of papaya, mango, jicama and cilantro. The rice it was served with was delicious and I ate every bite. The corn on the cob was cooked perfectly and also yummy. I was very happy with my choice and was satisfied but not uncomfortable full. We took advantage of the great beer list and drank a couple Scofflaw POGs and Monday Night Space Dust. Yum! They are served in schooners which look like margarita glasses but serve as big ol' glasses for your brewski. I thought it kept the beer cold for longer but I could totally be making that up! Even though we drank beer today, I plan to return for Saturday brunch for a $4 blood mary! And our fabulous waitress Patricia will be the bartender on Saturday so double win! They proudly have the owners' names on a chalkboard in the main dining room which I thought was a nice touch. One of the owners even stopped by and checked on us during our visit. My friends and I ate Lunch here today and this was my first time trying out the restaurant. We all ordered something different and tried each others dish's. Everything I tasted was spot on delicious. Who serves imitation crab at a seafood restaurant! The Cajun Seafood dip was beyond disappointing with the imitation crab. The food was flavorless and very unappealing. I was so excited because I always heard great things. I don't know if something changed but I won't give it a second chance which is something I normally do. I had the she crab which was like a chowder. Didn't expect that and the seafood scampi I took couple bites and that was it. There was no take home for me. Not worth the trouble of packing it up. Appetizer the shrimp Rangoon was bitter and could be a little sweeter. Hook Line and Schooner is a casual seafood restaurant located in the shopping center and apartment complex of The Flats at West Village. It has ample parking and is very easy to get to. We came here after going to Six Flags and ordered seafood scampi, blackened shrimp nachos, and the fried platter of jumbo shrimp and oysters. We also tried to order the charbroiled oysters, but sadly, they did not have any fresh oysters that day. Service was friendly and they attended to all of our needs. The atmosphere is very clean and modern. Food portions are pretty small, compared to other seafood restaurants. The seafood scampi had about 5 small mussels, maybe 2-3 scallops and shrimp each. Unlike a lot of other places with pasta, there wasn't that much pasta. There was, however, a lot of butter and oil at the bottom of the bowl, making it kind of soupy. The blackened nachos were appetizing, but really not worth the $12, since it was mostly just cheese dip and chips. The fried platter was good. It came with cole slaw, hush puppies, and fries and the portion size was pretty comparable to other seafood places. I wish we would have been able to try their raw or charbroiled oysters, but unfortunately, we might have to come back to give those a try. So overall, I feel like I can't recommend Hook Line and Schooner until I have tried their oysters. But based off of that experience, I would only recommend going if you were really craving seafood and there was no where else around. read more

I've been here a few times now and I like the place. The atmosphere here matches the name; it's like an elevated oyster shack with wooden tables and benches and a full bar. They also have booths which I prefer to a table. They also had live music each time I visited the restaurant. For my drink I ordered a gin and chambord martini - decent but very tiny. I also tried a margarita here and it was decent. For my app I ordered $10 crab legs which is a Tuesday special - great value, too. Main dish: blackened scallops with rice, grilled shrimp and side salad. Very nice. Their corn is pretty good too. This restaurant is definitely a hidden gem! We actually had a reservation at another restaurant, but it was so crowded for a Saturday that we ended up leaving. Seafood was what we were craving. When we found this spot, we figured we'd have to wait to be seated. To our surprise, we were seated immediately. The staff was really nice and the food arrived as expected. I ordered the lobster roll. Although it was amazing, I wish it had just a tad more flavor. We also ordered the bang bang shrimp. That was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Nicely seasoned, could've ate them just the way they came but I love ketchup so I added some to my potatoes. Even the sweet tea was just right. I really enjoy Hook Line and Schooner!! I often come for dinner and order the Shrimp Stuffed Crab. This comes with potatoes and broccoli. My only gripe about this dish is that there isn't a lot of it. You get 6 shrimp, which isn't very large but it is really, really good, even the side of potatoes and broccoli aren't very large. I attached a picture for you to judge for yourself. Other great dishes include, Fish Tacos and the Lobster Roll. Thursday's is a really good day to go because bottles of wine are half off!! They also have $1 oysters. I'm not an oyster enthusiast, but if that's your thing, it's definitely a plus! I've come for brunch before and it's pretty good as well. Let's see.....I ordered the steamed shrimp, HLS charbroiled oysters, she crab soup for appetizers. Then fried fish tacos with a Cesar salad for my entree. My friend ordered crab legs and broccoli with cheese, which she said was delicious. So when it came to my appetizers the oysters and the shrimp were really tasty but the she crab soup was just okay (more onions and peppers than actual crab). The fish tacos on the other hand were very disappointing, no flavor whatsoever. I was starting to believe I caught covid for a second, lol, just kidding. I also didn't agree with the flavor of the Cesar dressing. But the drinks were delicious and well balanced, so I wasn't mad. Hook Line and Schooner is a seafood tavern that opened February 27, 2015 at West Village, a live-work-play community in Smyrna. The restaurant replaced Table 33, which closed Spring 2014. Crepe Revolution was in this space before that. Hook Line and Schooner belongs to the same group as McCray's Tavern, The Mill in Roswell, and CosmoLava in Midtown. I never went to Table 33, but I did go to Crepe Revolution. Hook Line and Schooner is a big upgrade and an excellent addition to West Village. The space has been renovated and it looks great. The restaurant has an open, modern, clean, nautical/coastal theme complete with props/decor such as life rings and oars. There are planks of weathered wood and light fixtures that look like they came straight off a pier or dock. The bar looks fun. It's outfitted with two big TVs with crisp, clear pictures and a tall communal table. The naturally well-lit dining room is a mixture of both booths and tables with lots of banquette seating. There's a nice enclosed brick patio too. Hook Line and Schooner serves Sunday brunch and has a bunch of daily specials. Here's what the specials board looked like when I visited: * Monday-Friday, 4-6pm: 1/2 off oysters and 1/2 off peel 'n eat shrimp * Monday: 1/2 off house wine * Tuesday, after 6pm: $2 Tecate cans, $10/lb crab legs * Wednesday, after 4pm: 1/2 off peel 'n eat shrimp, $5 Mai Tais * Thursday, after 6pm: 50-cent Gulf oysters, 75-cent Blue Point oysters The menu has a good variety of seafood. Along with the aforementioned raw bar items (oysters, shrimp, crab legs), there are appetizers like steamed mussels, crab cake, and crab claw fingers; a variety of charbroiled oysters; salads and soups like seafood chowder, she-crab soup, and ahi tuna salad; sandwiches like po boys and lobster rolls; fish and shrimp tacos; fresh fish and seafood; fried seafood (e.g. fried jumbo shrimp, oysters, scallops); and other entrees like fish & chips, seafood scampi, and shrimp & grits. Fresh fish and seafood on my visit included scallops, tuna, trout, and salmon. Expect to spend at least $15-20 per person on food. I stopped in for a weekday lunch and tried the raw oysters (half dozen, $9) and the "Southern Fried Favorite" catfish entree, which comes with fries, slaw, and hush puppies, for $15. My tablemate ordered a lobster roll ($15). The oysters were surprisingly big, plump, and delicious. I'd easily put them in the "better" tier of oysters I've had in metro Atlanta. The menu didn't specify what kind of oysters they were, so I had to ask. Turns out they were Blue Points, but I'm not sure if they were "true" Blue Points. Regardless, they were fresh, succulent, meaty, and pleasantly salty. I highly recommend them. Even the accompaniments were on point. These include the cocktail sauce, mignonette, and horseradish. The latter was fresh, sharp, and spicy -- just the way I like it. The entrees were served in small metal trays lined with paper, similar to how certain BBQ joints serve their food. Like the oysters, my catfish was fresh and meaty. The accompanying tartar sauce was strong and tangy. Four hush puppies came with the order and they were A-OK. They were fried crispy to a dark golden brown. Each was about the size of a ping pong ball (unlike some hush puppies which can be bigger than the size of a golf ball). The fries were oily, but light (in terms of density), crisp, and addictively tasty. Unfortunately, I could not finish them due the amount of grease. I tried a bit of my friend's lobster roll and liked it. My girlfriend saw a picture of it posted on Instagram and thought it looked delicious, so I ordered one for her to-go. The lobster roll is made with chilled lobster meat, celery, green onion, and mayo on a toasted bun with a side of warm drawn butter (melted butter). I stored the lobster roll inside my work's break room fridge for the afternoon and brought it to my girlfriend in the evening. I took a bite out of it and enjoyed it. It held up well for the five or so hours it sat in my fridge and car. I'm allergic to lobster, but couldn't resist. Sadly, I found out I am still allergic to lobster. #notworthit Service was good from the hostess to the manager to our server Sylvia. Thanks, guys. Came here with the family on a Saturday evening. We had made a reservation and were seated right away. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. Our food came out quickly, which was good. There was a bit of a mix up on a few of the side items, but they were eventually able to straighten us out. The food itself was outstanding. I had the grilled Mahi and my wife had grilled scallops, and both were very well prepared. My son had the fish and chips and said that the batter was too peppery, but everything else was good. The staff was very attentive and really seemed to care about our satisfaction. Good seafood is hard to find around Atlanta, but this was a quality place that we will return to. read more
