Hookah places in Cali are EVERYWHERE and when the new law of no smoking indoors hit Hawaii, there really was no surprise that there wasn't a hookah lounge in sight until now... This location place use to be drift, this surf shop that was across from Ala Moana Center for years! (yes, i was moke at a point in my life) Now they've re-vamped and turned this place into a comfy, chill, hookah lounge. Since it's still new, this place is very, VERY clean for what i've experienced in other places. The floors aren't sticky, the furniture is comfy and doesn't feel like a homeless person was sleeping on it at all. The staff is pretty knowledgeable about their flavors they have, and friendly. Decided to try this place out as a second choice after finding out that there was an hour or so wait at the Burning Tree. The first time we came here, we saw a whole bunch of young looking teenagers socializing outside of the store so we decided to leave. The second time we came here, same thing. This place is full of youngins. If you're more into hanging out with the older crowds, the Burning Tree is definitely much more suitable. What I like about this place more than the Burning Tree is that it's not outdoors and you won't get wet when it's a rainy night out, though the Burning Tree has now added tarps for the outdoor tables. The customer service is not bad despite the loud music blaring in there. They play updated hip hop and rap songs (and songs I see people trying to dougie to lmao) so expect to yell at and be yelled at by your server/helper and your friends. The range of flavors they have here isn't a big of a selection as the Burning Tree but we tried the Strawberry Marguerita and the Magic Dragon and those were pretty good. (I'm not a hardcore hookah fan either) The servers check on your hookah often to see if the coals need to be replaced and they are friendly and prompt. There are 2 private rooms that you can rent out for the night and there is a big flat screen tv in the corner to entertain those who can't socialize with their friends over the loud noise. It's also byob (bring your own beer, bring your own boyfriend, bring your own book to read, not bring your own baby because they do check ID here. They will stamp the innards of your left arm with an easily smearable stamp. 18+ allowed.) The one thing that really kinda very freaked me out was that when they help you set up your hookah or when they stop by to check on you, they put their mouths on the tube where you stick your mouthpiece! Instead of using a mouthpiece they actually place their mouths on the thing itself! I mean I didn't get an A+ in Biology class or anything like that, but I sure know when I see something germy and unsanitary. (Insert "yuck face" emoticon here) Thank goodness for own individual mouthpieces.. But even so... I was appalled. Anyway. What I also don't like about this place is that there is only one unisex bathroom with a weak air dryer, the couches there that will eventually harbor dirt and debris if not cleaned often, the darkness of this place, the limited cramped parking stalls (limited number of stalls also available in the next lot in front of Farmers Market Hawaii) and the fact that there is too much testosterone in the house. Upon leaving, we witnessed the ending of a "fight" with pissed off teenagers, the bicycle-riding security guards of Ala Moana and the arrival of 3 police cars. Of course we dug out super quickly. No one wants to be in the middle of that. I'm not certain if it's like this every night, but there's a pretty good chance that it is. But if worse comes to worse, your best bet is to grab the nearest hookah and use it to defend yourself (not that I'm encouraging you to do that but if you really had to.. nobody is stopping you) read more

Cool hang out, great shisha brands, chill vibes, great service. I have recently been slightly addicted to hookah, so we have been investigating the best hookah spots around island. Looks like HookahHookah may be the only hookah bar left. Upon my first visit, I was so shocked about how many other people were into hookah. The crowd was very diverse. This is no longer just a college trend. When we entered HookahHookah, people were overspilling into the walkways waiting for tables. We were lucky to be seated with another group who were on their way out. The venue. I really love the decor inside and music inside the lounge. There are plenty comfy couches and tables. Also, the music is modern and hip. Mostly Drake, The Weekend, etc. Reminds me of a more familiar urban or LA scene. I do wish the lounge was more open air. If you are not into Hookah, you will definitely get a contact buzz for being in the smoke filled room. The staff. The staff is very attentive. As soon as you enter, they greet you and seat you. Sometimes they were a little slow on getting the hookah started and service but my latest experience was great. We had three different staff member waiting on us and checking the coals. It was great. The hookah. So many different shisha brands. The price is around 15 an hour and 10 for the shisha. You can also get an ice hose for an extra 10 an hour. Need to try the ice house sometime. I would recommend flavors: Double Apple and/or Guava. I was really surprised on how smooth Guava was. Its BYOB - need I say more? Grab a six pack or bottle of wine and head on over. read more

My friends and I went 3 times and each time they charged differently even though it's a set price which was odd. This was a lot of fun! The ambiance was was nice, and the hookah was delicious. Pros - BYOB & BYOF (food), so hell, bring a pizza and some beer or whatever your palate desires! They also have big booths, small booths, sofas, and overall relatively comfy seating and groups don't really clash much. Cons - Depending on how you view BYOB, this is either great or not so great. If you want to buy alcohol you'll have to go around the corner and bring it back. (But at least that guarantees your alcohol will be cheaper...?) Also, it's a bit pricey if you're doing larger groups. For 8 people for a few hours and two hookahs with two flavors each -- came out to almost $200. Also, water is $2.50 for a bottle -- no cups of water here. BRING YOUR OWN WATER. Overall opinion - very fun, but the experience largely depends on how much you bring with you! read more

So I came back here for a second time because I had such a good experience the first time. But this time the service was horrible! Nothing like the first time. It took over 20 mins to get a hookah once we were already seated. We were placed by another party even tho there was plenty of tables around! Talk about unorganized! Found this place after dinner at Thank Q Pocha.. It's located right behind it kinda.. Haha you won't miss is trust me! Walked in the and was greeted immediately.. We got seated and were given the house rules to read and the menu... So it's $15 an hour and then $10 per bowl (you can mix flavors as well).. And it's BYOB I see guys with their coolers and beers and also people bringing in food... We got the mint chocolate shisha and the server recommended to use the icicle on the hose for a better taste.. It was our first time in their so we just went along with whatever he recommended.. The seating and interior felt really chill, it was really dark in their with rap music in the background, lol we were straight up chilling! Our hookah came and it was with only one hose, so my friend and I would pass it to each other with every drag.. I don't know what it was but we were the only one choking, hahaha I'm not sure if we're going something wrong or hookah wasn't for us! Nonetheless, our hour came up and we decided to leave... After attempting to go to the other hook rooftop we went to a couple times before and finding it closed. I quickly yelped and found this spot. We got here about 9:30pm is on a Friday and have to say we were very surprised at the interior as the exterior can look like a mini parking lot to an alley. We parked across the street at Ala Moana, easy peasy. They sat us quickly and the people here are wonderful! I made a reservation and my friends arrived before my boyfriend and I. They were smart on asking for a price quote. Once I walked in, the smell of Shisha hit me like a ton of bricks. The ambiance was cute, simple & perfect. I love the fact that it's BYOB. My friends has surprised me with a cake. We were there for about an hour. The service was VERY attentive. Not once did we have to touch the coals. We were always asked "are you guys doing okay?. My friends had also bought drinks. But, In total, we spent $66 for a hookah, one flavor (PeachFuzz) and 5 people. I thought it was so reasonable! Definitely going to come back soon everyone! It really feels like a chill lounge. I usually go smoke hookah @ The Burning Tree. I wanted to check out the difference in both. I like both but if I had to choose one I prefer the Hookahhookah. Staff's very friendly. They will assist you till your needs of satisfaction. Mike assisted me through the phone and his fellow team was as well friendly like him to my experience there. I am definitely coming here for my birthday. There VIP rooms are very comfortable, luxury and lots of space to throw your own party. My experience here was a success. HookahHookah is a chill, small, indoor hookah joint right across Ala Moana shopping center, & is a little bigger than Burning Tree. The music is geared for the young crowd, with Hip-Hop and Rap as the main music genres. My friends & I decided to come here around 10pm and this place was really cool. There's a few booths to sit at and apparently they charge by the hour & by the amount of people. Luckily for us, a friend of mine was feeling quite generous and decided to pay our whole tab. Free hookah sesh? I'll take that! It's also BYOB, but they take your alcohol away at 12 (or have you take them out yourselves). Overall a really cool, chill spot to smoke hookah at. I've been here a few times in the last few weeks and they're pretty awesome. The staff is friendly and will chat you up if it's not super busy, and they've got a pretty good selection of shisha flavored and brands. I think it's a bit on the expensive side but I'm also coming from the mainland where hookah shops are a dime a dozen. I have to drive all the way for Ewa to get to this place, but it is worth it. I also really appreciate that they sell most of the flavors you smoke there as its really hard to find anywhere that sells shisha on island that isn't a really sketchy head shop. read more

I'm super picky about my hookahs, and the one I got here was great! Tasted good, the ice hose was awesome. The staff was very knowledgable about the "art" of smoking so they were very helpful if we had questions. The decor was nice, very comfortable with couches and TVs. Draperies to make it feel like a tent. Nice chill atmosphere. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because I had a hard time knowing who worked there if I had a question or needed something. This was my first time at this hookah bar since I'm visiting from out of town, I'm an avid hookah smoker I go out for hookah frequently and I have never been charged by the hour, I wouldn't have thought anything about it but when I walked in I ordered my hookah tight away and I was never told or shown any rules regarding the hourly charge, it would've been nice to know. I met up with three other girls and neither of them were notified either. Hookahs however didn't taste bad but they were not the greatest. The place is filthy! The bathrooms were extremely dirty, the booth we were seated at we dirty, burned, and torn. I would suggest that this place needs a good scrubbing and they should probably repair the damaged seating. The staff was friendly but could be a bit more attentive to changing the charcoal. read more

Very cozy, comfortable ambience. I came on a Sunday night and was pleased to learn while they don't serve liquor, you are able to bring your own. The establishment was playing 90s hip hop music that really appealed to my nostalgia and gave the place a more relaxed feel. The temperature was a little warmer when I arrived, but my body quickly adjusted. I tried the "Sex on the Beach" flavor, which was very nice and smooth.
