We found a gem in the heart of downtown OCNJ! The staff was friendly and welcoming, and our server was wonderful! They have a breakfast menu and a lunch menu - both have great looking choices! Today we opted for breakfast. My wife loved her asparagus, mushroom, bacon and Gruyere omelet. She commented that asparagus can be overpowering in certain presentations, but in her omelet today it was a perfect ingredient. I agree! My pork roll and Gruyere omelet was so very delicious!! I'm pretty impressed by the fact that this place offers Gruyere on its menu, my absolute favorite of all cheeses I've tried! Her home fries were a cross between a French fry and a potato chip, not bad. My tots were great! (I've never met a tot I didn't like) Even the rye toast we both ordered was terrific, obviously made from really good quality bread. We can't wait to return! read more

A pleasant surprise as we drive along the coast. We stopped and asked a police officer where to have breakfast and here we are Had pancakes with real maple syrup (extra cost, but worth it) and an omelette. Good food at a good price. read more

Another nice option for breakfast in Ocean City, NJ. Nice menu with some interesting choices that you don't find at some of the other popular restaurants for breakfast. I went with the "Open Face ". This was there version of Eggs Benedict. Totally, enjoyed it. Wife had the short stack of pancakes with a side of bacon. Solid Choice. Wait staff was attentive and our wait time was not too bad. The seemed organized and knew how to handle the crowd. Will Return! read more

Have heard about this place for a while and finally had the opportunity to try it. About a 15 min wait which wasn't bad as it was a gorgeous morning in OC. Sat at the counter. Everyone seemed friendly and welcoming. Food came out quick. We had lemon blueberry pancakes, scrambled eggs with cheese and a fruit plate. Everything was very good. Side potatoes were interesting how they were cut. I liked them because they weren't heavy. My only disappointment was the syrup. Could just be personal preference. I still will go back read more

We come to OC every year for vacay. I had the sausage and gravy. Delicious. I love their fried potatoes. They are so different with the Smokey flavor, yum! My husband got the garden scram. He said it was very good but the pancakes were "awesome". read more

will add mine to the praises for this cute & clean breakfast spot. went to an estate sale in ocean city, and stopped into HOB on a busy Friday morning. We were able to grab a seat at the counter and our server was great. egg dishes are served with either silver dollar pancakes or toast & potatoes or fruit. I had a veggie scram with pancakes and my husband had eggs over easy with toast & potatoes and we shared the sides in order to get a bit of both. big mug of coffee and an ice water rounded it off to be a very good and reasonable breakfast. If we are ever in O.C. again we'll stop by. read more

The food is consistently good here-owned by a teacher and the servers are always pleasant. It's great that they open @7am as most places don't open until 8. There is always a place to park near them which is always a plus as well. read more

The BEST hands down BEST breakfast I have ever had! This cute restaurant is perfectly decorated and clean. It's coastal town charm carries through the whole building. The service is 100% perfect. All smiles all happy to help! My husband had the Brighton Omelet- this was amazing. The asparagus was perfectly cook it still had crunch. The cheese just made it! Beautiful bowl of fresh seasonal fruit. I had the Italian omelet- never had ricotta cheese in an omelet was so good perfect seasoning. Tasted like Italy! We shared an order of apple pancakes. I come to Ocean City ever so often and I'm always sure to make sure I stop here. If they ever have a wait I recommend waiting for a spot because it is worth it. Every single time I have come here it's been out of the park with the food and friendly prompt service. there truly hasn't been anything I've gotten that I disliked. I highly recommend getting something off their specials menu also.I can attest that anything off the regular menu is going to be a home run, but anything off the specials menu is going to be out of this world. I've once ordered food to pick up and sometimes when you get things to go instead of in house the food can be soggy or anything else but that is never the case here, the food is still fresh and never soggy and homefries just as crispy. If I could give this place a 100 out of 100 I would give it 1000. read more

My wife and I came here on a early Saturday morning in late August. We didn't didn't have to wait for a table. We were greeted by a super friendly and perky staff. The coffee was very good and came in their nice, large mug. We wanted to buy a mug but none were in stock. Big bummer. Our food came out quickly and was excellent: a strawberry waffle, a side order of bacon and the Open Face sandwich. My waffle was crispy and airy, served with an abundance of fresh, cut strawberries. My wife liked the fact that the Canadian bacon on her Open Face was thinly sliced and heated on the griddle first. We finished all of our food. Our server was friendly and attentive, and this is a testament to good training and a good working environment while also hiring people who are hard workers and happy to be there! We look forward to coming back here , especially during the off-season. Important side note: clean bathrooms! read more

Was in O. C. this weekend with my wife and found this place on Yelp. There are restaurants that get it, and there are restaurants that just seem to never hit the mark. We ate here for breakfast both days and would probably eat here everyday if we could. Pros - Hot Coffee in large Mugs, Awesome menu, Hot delicious food, Friendly courteous servers, reasonable prices. We visited in the off season - we were looking forward to it (based upon the reviews). We were pleasantly greeted, and seated immediately in a nice booth. Very nice decor, clean and inviting. Ordered coffee, tea, and water. Ordered breakfast. Coffee and tea came. Water finally came with our food. Unfortunately - our breakfast had been sitting out long enough to get cold. Butter wouldn't melt, potatoes cold - simply not worth the calories. They did ask if everything was ok (to their credit) - but we shouldn't have to ask for a warm breakfast, nor have to complain about it. We won't be back. read more

No negatives, here. The place was bright, clean and fresh. My wife and I ate at the counter, which allowed us to see and interact with several of the wait staff. All seemed on top of their duties, energetic and friendly. The food was quick to arrive after we ordered. I had pancakes with bacon, and my wife had avocado naan bread. We both enjoyed our meals. We both had a large mug of coffee, which was refilled, as needed. We will definitely eat here again. All of the good reviews will draw people to this place. It's not a tiny place, but during busier times, you will definitely have a wait. read more

Located downtown Ocean City a favorite of locals and tourists. Located in the heart of the very picturesque downtown it was a gem. Just watch your step entering and exiting this fine establishment. There is raised lip in the enterywqy. The service was great! I got the Brighton Omelette filled with asparagus, bacon, mushrooms and Gruyère cheese with rye toast and home-fries ( which tasted like a cross between a potato chip and a French fry). The omelette and toast were fabulous. My husband ordered the pork roll and Gruyère omelette. Not to be biased but I really loved my choice. Jerry also got the tater tots that were great. We enjoyed our meals and left happy. Our waitress said that even off season it can get busy and they don't take reservations so the best thing to do is call 45 minutes in advance and get your name on the wait list. We ate here on a Monday when we were craving pancakes. We searched Yelp for "pancakes" and this place came up. The extensive list of all kinds of pancakes (with photos) drew us in. We made a reservation and were seated outside where it was comfy and not crowded. Our super nice waitress came over right away. My bf asked if they had real maple syrup and sure enough, the waitress pointed out that it was on the menu (for a small charge- I think $1.50 extra). Bf was super happy about that. Our coffees were delicious. We both ordered pancakes- I had the blueberry and bf had the banana with a ton of the real syrup and butter. Both our meals were awesome. We will definitely be back to this place!! read more

This is the best breakfast spot in Ocean City! I love the variety they offer but my favorite is the vegetable scramble, it's full of great veggies with an option to add cheese. You also get an option for fresh fruit instead of the standard home fries- they home fries are also great, I just like to mix it up! They have a really great kids menu too, my kids enjoy the JJ breakfast which includes a mickey pancake, 1 egg and a breakfast meat. My husband also enjoys their scrapple and scrapple nuggets! Service is also incredible everyone is always so nice and enjoys the seasonal crowd. Go and enjoy some breakfast! read more

We finally went off the boardwalk for food, and Hooked did not disappoint. We got burgers from their lunch menu, and they were so delicious! The fries are thin and so crispy, the tots were crisped to perfection as well. Our only regret was not finding it earlier! read more

great prices, standard diner prices in a touristy town. excellent service. I ate here one time and the waitress remembered me AND my order the second time! the food came out in 5 minutes and was good! I was not rushed at all and was able to sit and enjoy my coffee. I love that UB's offers them year round (almost no other restaurants do). My Sir got blueberry lemon pancakes. Wow were they good too! Our server, Paige, was very sweet and efficient. The place was hoppin' for an off season Sunday. We saw Manco and Manco pizzas come in with several boxes so we inquired. So sweet! The boss, Pat, buys it for staff every Sunday! We met him - very nice and hands on. Next time we're there - it will be SUMMER :)

They charged me $2 for onions and $2 for peppers, adding an extra $4 for the meal. The added cost was not indicated on the menu, nor did the server disclose it. Another person changed out their two slices of standard toast for a slice of whole grain. That was a $1 added charge. Visitors should check their bills closesly since Varsity Inn seems to now want to add a charge for any little thing. The following night, I had a hamburger at another restaurant, and there was not an added charge for onion. Looks like we'll go elsewhere so we don't get hit with added, hidden charges.

Alright, man! So we rolled into this joint around 1:30pm, and guess what? They're closing at 2pm! Talk about a close call, man. But the staff, who were super friendly, made me feel like I stumbled into Mayberry instead of New Jersey. The waitress, she went above and beyond, explaining what the heck a pork roll is. I never even heard of it until a couple of days ago, and now it's like it's everywhere, man. So I went all out and ordered eggs with bacon mixed in, plus bacon slices and that mysterious pork roll. My wife, she went straight for those pancakes, dude, and she devoured them faster than you can say "lickety split." They were mind-blowing, man! I only wish we lived closer so we could hit this place up several times a week, ya know? The ambiance was spot on, just what you'd expect from a super friendly small town breakfast joint. We don't visit Ocean City too often so we didn't really know where to go for breakfast. We walked past the first evening in O.C. and saw their menu on the window. The place looked clean and the prices were reasonable. We stopped first thing the next day and were pleasantly surprised. We were seated immediately and the staff couldn't have been more efficient and courteous. The food was great. Tried the scrapple nuggets and so happy I did. Also, a big plus on the size of the coffee mug. It was as big as my mug at home. None of those little 5 oz. cups that constantly need refilling. Highly recommend! read more

The food is here is SO good! It's all homemade and the sticky bun pancakes are to die for. Kids loved the mickey pancakes too. We came back a second time for lunch and it was equally delicious. This time opted for something a bit lighter and got the strawberry caprese salad. My kids and husband went heavier but it was all so tasty. Will definitely come back the next time we're in the area. This is an AMAZING new dinning spot! Located in the heart of OC,NJ. As soon as you arrive you will be greeted by a happy hostess, & be seated quickly. The menu is enormous with endless possibilities. Remember we've been here for 20. It has now been a total of 1:15 since our order. - After this ordeal they have the audacity to try to charge us an extra $15 on the bill!! When they tell me to swipe my card luckily I have the presence of mind to review things -- "um, this looks higher than I heard on the phone?" I really don't want to dump on The Grubb but it was just a sad sad experience and we were really so disappointed in the quality of service. It wasn't exactly overflowing with business on this night, and yet everyone seemed really overwhelmed and backed up (maybe understaffed or under-trained?). To make things worse, nobody was very apologetic or made much of an effort to make things right. We had such high hopes (the sandwiches are really great!) but after the worst takeout experience I've had on the island, I will never order from here again. :( - 6/21/2025
