Such a great stop! Loved the beer selection! I opted for a cider and my mom had a glass of wine. We asked the server for recommendations and he recommended the grill cheese and the bikini bottom salad. We ordered both. The recommendations were spot on! We loved both dishes! My husband and went to HopCat on Tuesday, we got their early so we could get a table for 7 adults and 3 children I guess that was a problem with the host because we were getting sat when host # 2 came around the corner and rudely told host #1 she wasn't going to sit us there, the second host turns to us and said in the most disrespectful way is your whole party hear? No we said we came early to get a table, she proudly said well I don't know your kids ages?? Wtf? I said we need just chairs for them the host turned away and never came back to us until we were all in the door, so we waited 15 minutes for our entire party to be present and then she turns and sits us at a totally empty room?? When I showed the manager that I ate cheese paper with my food he immediately gaslight me by telling me it wasn't a big deal and it happens all the time and it's okay. We were there an hour and a half because the wait was ridiculous for a mostly empty restaurant that was out of half of what we wanted to order. I still feel sick from knowing I ate so much paper. I did not get the 2 staff members names, but I wanted to call out the excellent way they interacted with someone that was experiencing mental health issues. The person then left the area. I'm not sure if the guy is always around so they knew him, but I was very impressed. My family had a get-together of over 20 people from ages 3 to 85 and rented the loft in the downtown branch, a great old space with cast-iron Corinthian columns. We couldn't have been taken care of any better. In fact, when we arrived, we found a beautiful flower arrangement and card from the staff (the occasion being a post-funeral meal). We dined at the Grand Rapids Michigan Hop Cat last night before going to a show at Van Andel Arena. We were upstairs there and our waitress was Sophia. She was delightful! She came to our table right away and was very service oriented, and we spent some time looking over the menu and she did not pressure us to order anything fire we were ready. We were looking for a simple place with good beer, good food and great service and we found it here. Daniel was our server and she was awesome, she was incredibly helpful and she made sure we were taken care of thoroughly. Since this was my first time in Michigan, I wasn't sure about the loc beers so she made sure I was able to taste any of the brews before I got the pour. The food was more that a typical burger joint and the overall flavor was good. The place was real nice and down to earth and not too loud or crowded. If I return to Grand Rapids, I will definitely stop by again for a few cold ones. read more

Happy to have found a HopCat here while visiting Grand Rapids. It sits in the midst of the downtown area right on the corner so you can't miss it. The inside reminds me of an irish pub feel, it looked as if they were doing some remodeling in the rear but it didn't interfere with the dining experience. We were able to sit ourselves and a waitress came over a few minutes after with menus. I have been to teo other locations and as expected we received great service and the food was good. The loaded fries are to die for and I could eat them everyday!! We also had some wings, a combination of chicken and fish tacos and the chicken quesadillas. There is also an outside patio and it looked like there was an upstairs dining area. I really loved the paintings on the ceiling and the bicycle hanging from the ceiling. read more
