Yesterday, we went to this burger bar for brunch. It's a walk up and order type of place; it was clean and welcoming with polite staff. There is indoor and outdoor seating and a small bar area. The bar had a few people there. We looked over the accesible menus and ordered a classic and a shroom with sweet potato fries to share and two drinks. We went off to get our drinks from the dispensing machine, hubby got an Arnold Palmer and I wanted a Diet Coke, but the machine only dispensed brownish looking water instead of soda. I opted for black tea with a splash of lemonade instead. We chose a booth to sit at and the wait was about 10 minutes to get our fries to come and 10 more minutes to get our burgers. The food was good and even though the size of the burgers seemed on the smaller side we were totally satisfied. The fries were the best of it all, scrumptious and delicious with a slightly spicy dipping sauce. The price tag for the meal was $50.00 with the tip, a bit pricey in our view. The place wasn't loud, but the music playing was really indescifrable like we read in the reviews. There was no rhyme and rhythm to it. Love this cute little hamburger and fry joint close to TJMaxx in Tallahassee. They had the most delicious skinny fries lightly salted while waiting for our ride after an afternoon of shoppy shoppy. Hopdoddy Burger Bar is a good place to get a burger but be ready, it will cost an arm and a leg. My family went in here for dinner one evening while in Tallahassee. They run a promotion where if you sit at the bar, your meal is half-off. Unfortunately, we were 4 people with a 9-month-old so bar seating was not in the cards for us. We walked up to counter and placed our order. 3 burgers, a chicken sandwich, two small bowls of fries and two small side salads. After tip, it was $96. I've had less expensive sit-down dinners with top-notch service for that price. Our food was brought out to us not too long after we ordered. I will say the food was good. I ordered a double cheeseburger. It was comically large and nearly impossible to eat. The patties were thick and the beef was fresh and savory. I did the build-your-own. Mine had pickles, lettuce, tomato and cheese. The fries were ok. We got the parmesan truffle fries. They had the slight earthy taste of truffle and dusted with parmesan. The side salads were good. The kale was fresh and crunchy, it had a light vinaigrette on it that didn't weigh down the salad and complimented the bits of tomato and carrot. In the end, we enjoyed the meal but couldn't get past the price tag. If there is a next time, we will pop our 9-month-old in her car seat at the bar to get this food at a reasonable price. read more

Ordered takeout online in the interest of minimizing stops while on a 10-hour drive. Our order was ready shortly after our arrival and was prepared perfectly as ordered. My wife said her GF bacon cheeseburger was delicious, with special praise for the GF bun. I had the Ahi Tuna burger, which was a wonderful change from the usual burger options, cooked to perfection and complemented nicely with seaweed crisps, ginger, wasabi, and teriyaki. It was exceptional! I will, however, caution other drivers not to order this and then attempt to drive while eating it. With the teriyaki it was so juicy I ultimately had to pull off at the first rest area to finish eating it (and to wash my hands afterward). I give them a 10 on flavor town because they burst in your mouth with every bite. The shareable Parmesan Truffle fries alone is a must have. Over all experience is a 8/10 since there is always room for improvement. The atmosphere was nice and a beautiful decor upgrade from Grub Burger. The staff is friendly along with management thats willing to listen to suggestions from customers on how to improve menu items. We were visiting from out of town and we decided to stop at Hopdoddy for a drink and a meal. We sat at the bar and were served by the bartender. We both decided to order margaritas and opted to get the upgraded tequila. When we ordered the upgraded tequila we pointed to the $4 upgrade charge that was shown on the menu. When we were served, we were given two shot glasses with the tequila in it. We were fine with that as that is how many bars do it. When were presented with the bill we saw that they charged us $13.95 for each of the shots. We thought this was a mistake and brought it to the attention of the bartender. She immediatly got hostile with us and told us that the bill was correct and that is what we ordered. We told her there must have been some misunderstanding as this price was never disclosed to us (nor is it listed on their menu). She continued to talk down to us and raise her voice at us. At that point we asked to speak to a supervisor. She grabbed the receipt away from us and went to the kitchen to talk to the manager. She came back a few minutes later and made an adjustment to the receipt to remove the erroneous charges. She basically slammed the updated check on the table in front of us and didnt say a single word. Had this bartender approached the situation differently, this review would not have been necessary. This is not the service that I expect from a chain restaurant such as this. Very disappointed and will be telling others to beware of the service at this location's bar. read more

Came here on their soft opening day. Was greeted immediately and explained the new concept. One thing that stuck with me from their explanation of the new business was that they attempt to buy locally for their products! This is not only great for the food but for their city as well. Tried many things from the menu. Don't be fooled by the Diablo Burger, it is very spicy but so tasty! The Truffle Mac Burger is also very delicious, could use a bit more flavor in the Mac but overall really great! I also could not stop eating the Truffle Fries, so addicting!! I didn't get a chance to try their alcoholic beverages but they sounded very intriguing. The restaurant itself is very nice, everything seemed very clean and the employees were super friendly and attentive. I definitely recommend this place and will be coming back soon! read more

The former Grub Burger is now Hopdoddy (they bought out the grub chain). I attended their soft opening and I did not pay for this meal. However, I happily would have paid. I had a shareable fries with green chili queso; the Classic burger with cheddar, grilled onions and grilled mushrooms, and a chocolate shake. The fries were wonderful and plentiful. The queso tasted great, but was a little thick for my taste. The burger was hot and juicy and served a perfect medium rare, as I ordered it. It tasted great. The burger is served on an in-store baked bun. While that's admirable, and tasty, the bun is a little soft to hold up to the burger and it started to crumble as it soaked up the juices from the burger. There is a condiment station, next to the soft drink fountains, where, in addition to ketchup, you'll find honey mustard, barbecue, and spicy ketchup. Both the barbecue sauce and spicy ketchup were amazing. The shakes are made with custard, and it was delicious. I am definitely looking forward to a return visit. read more

On the left side there is the bar where you can order alcohol. Then you keep walking to the end where there the food menu is overhead. There are many burgers to choose from, and each can be made with a house-made veggie burger. I chose the Swiss mushroom version. There are large bowls of fries with different flavors to share. I chose the first, with truffle and Parmesan cheese. Both were delicious! It was one of the best plant-based burgers I've had. Ask for extra napkins. The burgers are really juicy. I'll preface this review by stating that I'm a Smashburger girl - it's just my preferred style of burger. However, after passing through town and being consistently disappointed in the food quality there, we decided to try something new. HopDoddy made a pretty decent burger. My traveling companion and I both ordered the Classic, and shared orders of the fries and brussel sprouts. Several reviewers complained about very salty or over-seasoned burgers; I hate too much salt, and found this not to be the case for me. The burger tasted just fine and had all of the classic fixings and was well-cooked. The patty was a little thicker than I prefer, but again, that is my taste. I was glad to see it filled the bun. I am super-picky about meat, and this burger tasted like good-quality beef, it was tender, and I had no "crunchies" or gristle. I had high hopes for the fries (in comparison to the "other" place), but sadly, I was a little disappointed because although the portion size was nice for sharing, the fries were mostly soft and on the soggy side. Maybe this is preference in enjoying crispier fries, but I thought they could be cooked a little longer. I LOVE fried brussel sprouts, and was thrilled with the portion size of the shareable, and it was what seemed to be all the crispier outer leaves. YUM! However, after the first couple bites which tasted delicious, I realized that with every chew I could feel grease going down my throat. It's too bad all the leaves seem to hold all the oil. I didn't finish them, knowing I would have horrible heartburn later if I did. We finished off our meal with the Nutella Pretzel Milkshake. The thought of sweet with a smattering of salt sounded delish. I loved the little crunches of salt, but for me it was way too rich and very, very sweet. It felt like I was guzzling pure fudge. Probably just personal taste - if you are a sweet tooth you may be delighted. Compared to Smashburger, the inside of this place is wonderful in all respects. It is newer, hipper, and WAY cleaner. They have a bar if you want drinks. I enjoyed the music they were playing as it spanned various decades and seemed like the variety would appeal to most everyone. And all of the employees we encountered were friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Their customer service outweighs the "other place" by far. Simply due to my personal preferences in burgers and sides, I probably wouldn't come here again by my choice, but it certainly is not because of anything negative that I experienced. I feel good giving them 4 stars for my overall experience and would definitely recommend giving them a try if you are looking for a new burger place, or someplace fun to hangout with friends while enjoying some fun eats and drinks. read more

My family and I have been to Hopdoddy a couple times and it's an exceptional burger.. but it's gonna cost you. For my Wife and I to get two burgers, two drinks, and a large side of fries to share was a little under $50 so there's that. The staff always treat you pretty great and we honestly haven't had any issues with anyone, everybody is very helpful. Also, if you're wondering, no this is not Grub but with a new sign. The menu and some of the interior has been changed and I'm not sure if it's for the better. The menu is way smaller which is typically good in my opinion but they got rid of everything I used to get so I was bummed about that.. just check the menu online if you're expecting Grub. All in all I highly recommend if you're on the search for some of the best burgers in tally and have the budget for it. read more

First time is a charm I guess, for we decided to grab Hopdoddy burgers and fries carry out. The website was extremely easy to use and prompted me to both open an user account and download their app (which I did). While you can make your own burger, the speciality burgers seemed very creative, so we ordered the Double Bacon Jam x 2 and the Magic Shroom Burger. The burgers were cooked perfectly and all of the ingredients worked very well together. The buns were heavy enough to hold the burgers and condiments without getting soggy. Mine was not hot by the time I got to it (totally my fault), but the burger was still excellent! These were all good sized burgers, so at around $10 per burger, we really felt like we got our money's worth! The bacon, burger and cheese mixed with the tomato bacon jam was very tasty on the Bacon Jam Double. The pesto and goat cheese was great with the mushrooms and cheese on the Magic Shroom Burger. These were so good we all noticed ourselves eating faster than normal! The hand cut fries were excellent, even after I warmed them back up for a few minutes in our air fryer (again, totally my fault). 1.5 "this place feels like a scam" stars Honestly the whole 1 star is for the staff :') they were really friendly, although we didn't interact with them much. This whole restaurant layout is interesting. You order at the register, and they bring the food out to you at your assigned table. They also have a bar near the entrance right in the middle, which is an interesting interior decision. We went on a Thursday evening and I believe 1/4 or 1/5 of the place was filled, which boded well. Also before this place was Hopdoddy, it was Grub Burger which is why it has so many amazing reviews on Google Reviews. It's my lesson learned that I didn't double check on Yelp, or else I wouldn't have realized they changed up the menu and everything. I guess the boozy drinks are a fun factor to this, but I'm just grading on the burger. It was dismal. The burgers don't look like the posed photography that the business uploaded. They're the size of the palm of my hand (I don't have big hands) and in general sad looking just sitting alone on the metal platter. Gosh I really wish I took pictures. I got the Diablo sandwich which wasn't spicy. I opened it up and it was mostly serrano peppers with bare minimum cuts of habanero. Like barely there, I tell you. One tomato. This sandwich is big enough to fit ONE tomato. It looks nothing like the picture on the website lol. It wasn't spicy at all and I doused Tabasco on it to fix that. But otherwise it was fine. Oh! I forgot to mention - I asked the cashier to make the burgers medium rare (he said the default was medium well) and it came out medium well. Welp. And it was so dry. And dense. And omg, it honestly hurt my jaw chewing on it lol. Minimum amounts of cheese and sauce. When I took bites it was literally just toast and patty. Like pls. We were eating through tears at the end. I like how they have a sauce bar :D that's pretty nifty. And good range of hot sauces too. They say the ketchup is made in-house which is nice but personally I couldn't taste the difference. We also got the honey sage sweet potato fries to share and it was low key a struggle to finish. The sauce is more sweet than spicy (*whispers* it wasn't spicy at all) and the sweet potato fries weren't crispy. Not that it matters anymore since the sauce is pretty much supposed to douse the fries. Even though when we got it the sauce was barely mixed in so we had to toss it ourselves. I mean, It's fast casual so I get it but a little reminder would have been nice. All in all I thought this place was mid and my partner actively disliked it. We were REALLY craving burgers and I think coming here just made us sad. It's unfortunate because the Grub Burger place this location used to be looked really nice, but I'm not so sure about the new place. read more

It was my first time going, so I decided to only get a burger and feel things out. I ordered the double bacon jam because the person taking orders recommended it, but it was a huge let down. I was never asked for the temperature on my burger, so I just assumed it would come out medium, but it came out well done. On top of the burger patty being dry, then the patty itself was overly salty. The bread was soggy and just immediately fell apart. The tomato bacon jam could not call itself a jam. It had chunks of tomatoes that were not cooked down enough. The layout of the restaurant also makes no sense. It was my first time there, so you would think that they would make it easier to find your table, but that was not the case. I was just given a number when I paid and had to go find it. Today I was thrilled to enjoy a soft opening where my husband and I got to enjoy a shareable of Parmesan truffle fries and a shake of our choice. I went with the Thunderbird comprised of grilled chicken, pepperjack, poblano, bacon, and Chipotle aioli. I chose to have it in a bowl atop kale and cabbage. They have lettuce wraps to be subbed out instead of a bun. In addition to delicious food options they have full bar and spotlight local craft beer. The service was phenomenal on this crowded soft opening with servers refilling drinks and clearing finished items. The fries came out first, which would be quite helpful to shush fussy toddlers or adults with hunger pangs. I was invited to a soft opening at Hopdoddy! What a nice time we had. There were 4 of us and we experience a little of everything. I had the double bacon jam burger and would get that all day long! We also had a couple of sharables. We had the brussel sprouts with their spicy sweet mustard sauce. It was so unexpectedly delicious. We also had parm truffle fries with an aioli truffle dip. In addition we had a shake that was creamy delicious. We enjoyed the new menu and will be back! The new team did a great job explaining the rebranding. Had the Doddy Burger and my wife had the OG chicken sandwich. Shared an order of fries. The service was good and the employee were all smiles and helpful. The fries were very good and my wife liked the OG. My burger was the worst burger I've tasted in years. Way over salted, to much Worcestershire (or something similar) wrecked the taste. I couldn't taste anything except salt. I've heard that the burgers here are good so maybe mine was just a one-off terrible burger. I ate less than half and I regret eating that.
