As chicken goes it was overall good, tasty, service was decent, and pricing....well, pricing was what you'd expect from a place near a conference center in a big city. It's not exactly bustling on a Saturday night, which I found slightly odd, and there is that same cold sterility when an establishment chooses concrete and minimalist decor over personality, which is to be found here. But they did have a very nice seating area outside; unfortunately, it was a little too windy to enjoy at this particular instance. That being said, the food was excellent! The chicken was very tender and served hot, and the Cheesy Mac was decadent, perhaps even a bit too cheesy. As far as comfort food is concerned, this is a ten out of ten. They have some flatscreen TVs and some board games, not to mention a few cornhole boards and bags outside, so it's not like they aren't trying. It just feels like something is missing here that could really set Hops & Hens apart from their competitors and make it more memorable. However, if you're just looking for some good chicken and don't plan on sticking around too much, then I would say that this is a great choice, and due to its close proximity to the Omni Hotel, if you're a guest looking for a quick bite, it's certainly worth a visit! read more

Imagine trying to find a place to eat within walking distance of 21,000 cheerleaders and their families. We did this weekend at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center Hops & Hens. Waited about 30 minutes for a table but was able to order beers while waiting. Place was packed with large groups of teams and families. Ordered chicken sandwich and chicken tenders with tots. Even packed, the bidders cleaned the tables quickly and completely. You get a flag to identify your order which I lifted high so it could be seen over the crowd. Took about 10 minutes to get fresh, hot food to the entire table. The tots were crispy outside and tender inside. The chicken was temp hot, but after it cooled somewhat the chicken was moist and the breading was crispy. Four large tenders were a lot, even for me. Fun place that knows their products. read more

Be careful when using your credit card here!! The food was actually fine. However, what was not fine is the extra "tip" the guy at the counter changed on my receipt when I reconciled my accounts. I keep all receipts and always include the tip amount so it was obvious he figured he could add a little extra digit to the front of the tip amount and I wouldn't notice?? After disputing the charge with my bank, I called the omni to report the fraud. I mean, I would want to know if I were the manager. Never received a call back or any sort of followup. Ugh. I had the cob salad with grilled chicken, and even though the salad was $12, my total bill came out to $19, I didn't receive an itemized receipt so I guess they charge for grilled chicken. The salad was subpar and not worth $20. The woman taking our order was very happy and it translated to her being very welcoming. They let you try samples or their IPA . If you like sweet and savory beer, then go with the honey habanero. The menu is limited to chicken which makes sense. When we got our fried chicken It was the perfect piece of fried chicken. They use rice crispies in the batter and just the perfect amount of seasoning. It was so good I bought another 6 piece for the drive home to Austin. We stayed at the Omni for a volleyball tournament while in Dallas, and stopped in here a couple times to get food. The loaded tots are to die for--served hot and crispy, and the cheese and everything on top is awesome. We also had the spicy chicken sandwich. It was so good. The outdoor seating is comfortable and really relaxing. The lawn game (corn hole?) also looked fun. Service was fast and friendly. I would give them five stars but I really wanted a margarita. Both times I went and ordered a margarita were problematic--the first time they said they were almost out of mix, so they just filled the glass with more ice (less margarita ), and the second time they were just "out of margaritas". In their defense, there were a lot of people there for the volleyball tournament and I think other stuff, and their specialty is beer (as the name suggests!). My pro tip if this happens to you and you really want a Margarita--go a few doors down to the Cafe Herrera. Their drinks are bigger, better, and they have a huge bar. read more

I really did like my experience at H&H (we ate there twice) but there were a few things that make me not want to go back. First, their "burger"...........Texan with crispy onions was a complete bust. the onions were not crispy and were placed under the patty which meant that even if they were crispy, they were soggy by the time they hit the table. The next visit we ordered chicken tenders but they were not tenders. They were sliced chicken breasts. They also had a black hair sticking out of the breading....not cool. And, our "tenders" were presented to us before we actually made it to our table which means they were pre-cooked and they were not hot. It was a complete disappointment. read more
