Came here for the first time in years. This is a very popular place and had a lot of customers. You can eat indoors or outside. The food was good, fries were delicious! We had savory burgers were good but the bacon was minimal. Our server was Tuyet and was excellent. She was working outside and inside and balanced both areas well. She always was attentive to our needs. Tuyet was often checking on us asking if we needed anything and checking if we enjoyed our food. The food is great. Went there twice now on a Thursday for the Prime rib special. Very good. The problem is the noise level. My head hurt after about an hour and my ears were ringing for hours after. Plus it's so busy. We sat at the bar for 10 minutes and the bar tender never even asked if we wanted a drink. If they installed high back booths it would kill the noise. Imagine eating in a gymnasium with about a 400 people trying to talk loud enough so the person across the table can hear them above everyone else doing the same thing. Sad. read more

I grew up frequenting the "Old Paddock." What the Old Paddock lacked in customer service, rodent control, and clean bathrooms, it made up for in character. It was the sort of place where your grizzled waitress would smack-talk you right back should you decide to give her any sass. Order a Manhattan and they'd make it with double the booze AND give you a sidecar on ice--all for something like $2.50. Hell, the place had liver and onions on the menu. My grandmother ordered it once. And loved it. If you were to sit at the bar, the local drunks who planted their butts on the beat-up stools would eventually tell you about something crazy like their prostate problems (true story, ask Jason C.). That's if they weren't there just to grab a 40-ouncer of Mickey's to go. Along with all the horse murals, the Old Paddock featured framed baby portraits on the walls. Ask a waitress who they were and, you'd guessed it, they'd give you The Sass. At the New Paddock, few horse murals remain. (The new owners scrapped the largest painting on the far wall, along with the "ENTER HERE FOR BUFFET" sign.) They've cleaned the place up nice. The service is better. The beer selections go far beyond Bud. The fish tank isn't murky. The bar is incorporated into the rest of the restaurant. Loud music plays and there are TVs everywhere. There's a fancy new porch for smokers to flick their cigarette butts onto. And the menu is devoid of all those dishes your grandmother would have loved, replaced by less-adventurous chicken sandwiches, so-so salads, and an appetizer section that's largely deep fried. In other words, it's like bar food you'd find anywhere else. Except for the pizza. Though New Paddock has done away with the bathroom condom machines, stained ceiling panels, and vintage Ms. Pac Man machine (I mean, come on, REALLY?), they have retained the single best part of the Old Paddock. Paddock pizza doesn't taste like pizza you can order anywhere else. You could call it Old Forge-style pizza, but that would short-sell its balance of gooey cheese and tangy sauce. Each pie emerges (slowly) from the kitchen on a scratched stainless steel pan, blistered with what my family has long adoringly referred to as "pizza scabs" around the edges. These blacked bits of charred cheese infuse the thin crust with a flavor that begs you to have another slice, and another, and another... With a lager, it's the best pizza-eating experience you'll have in all of Allentown. If the New Paddock ever replaces the Old Paddock's pizza, I'll drop two stars from this review. Bring back the Ms. Pac Man machine and I'll add one. read more

Came here while visting the lady's family in Whitehall last week, hoping to grab a couple beers with her brother and his fiancée, do a bit of catching up, and watch a bit of the Flyers/Penguins game, so I could heckle both teams. (Sorry guys, go Bruins.) Basically, looking for an average night out, but wow, Hops at the Paddock elevated the night from "average" to "actually pretty excellent"! Many, many well-placed TVs on which to watch either the hockey game or one of several bowl games. Extremely helpful wait staff, who accommodated us by aiding our move from our table after they mentioned that the live entertainment for the evening would be setting up where we were sitting. (Speaking of the live entertainment, big ups to whoever booked Adam Motto for the night -- brilliant sing-along classic rock covers, took requests, played everything from Bowie to The Cranberries to Skynnyrd. Awesomeness ensued -- pretty sure we tried to book him for the lady's brother's wedding at the end of the night.) But the best part, especially coming from the big, overpriced city? FOUR DOLLAR DOGFISH HEAD 60-MINUTE IPA PINTS. We had an overall great time for right around $20 a head, not counting bills destined for the band's request tip jar. So, next time you feel like having one of those nights that start out relaxed and end up with you singing along to Bad Moon Rising with the entirety of the rest of the bar, go here. read more

Happened to hit Hops on "all-you-can-eat" prime rib night... Thursdays. Initial steak was pretty massive... second two were about half the size of the first. Pretty tasty. Broccoli side was good, seasoned with a bit of garlic. Onion rings were solid. Side salad was impressive... mixed greens and no iceburg! I did not like the seafood chowder at all... had a very strange taste. Hops has about 10 TVs including one in the lobby. Fairly loud venue, as bar is part of the dining area. Bathroom was modern, but smelled bad. Cool that they allowed girl scouts (brownie and daisy) to sell cookies in the lobby! Bought 3 boxes. read more

I will never step foot in this place again. My coworkers planned a retirement happy hour for my husband and I. I was appalled at how horribly we were treated. A lot of our friends showed up and after a little while, the waitress took everything off the table and when one of the people asked to order something, the waitress told her she could not order. We needed to leave because we were in the way. Really, an eating establishment does not want customers. It was unbelievable the way we were treated. By the way the nachos I had were really bad. I would rate it a zero if that were an option. We are regular customers at the Hops at Fogelsville, but I don't know if we will go back. It is the same owner so I have mixed feelings about patronizing this establishment at all. They have 2 locations....this review is for the Fogelsville location.... They offer Red Bridge gluten free beer!!!! A group of us came in on a Friday night, they have a cool outdoor seating area and a nice bar and what looked to be a nice dining room. We got a table in the bar area and even though the bartenders were not the fastest based on the amount of people in there we still had a good time. They did the Savory burger with no bun for me with no problem and it was delicious and their fries had a great seasoning as well. It's a nice cool laid back place that was nice to sit and chill. I have always brought my family in here for dinner and often come just for drinks with my wife. Lately we have been appalled at the dress attire of some of the waitresses. We weren't even sure some of the girls were wearing pants that's how Short there shorts were. I have always prided the paddock on there family atmosphere but it seems like the trashyness of there employees is starting to reflect on the service. By the time we finally got our drinks two of them had long hairs , one wrapped around the glass and the other inside my beer!!. Disgusting. Aren't restaurant employees required to wear there hair up ? We noticed both female bartenders had there hair down. Cleanliness of a restaurant includes cleanliness and proper attire of your employees. What image are you going for ? Shame on owners for allowing this. We have also been to HOPS Fogelsville where we have noticed the same thing. Hair down , short skirts and just overall trashy appearance. Hop's at the Paddock is one of the more successful locations in the LV and for good reason. An attentive and friendly staff, many beers, a loud sometimes rowdy atmosphere, plenty of TVs, lots of room and a friendly crowd. Paddock truly is a fun place to look forward to coming too. The food is tasty with intriguing weekend specials. Ahi tuna, tasty burgers, and very popular wings draw in big crowds (not a fan of the wings, but I appear to be in the vast minority). The soups of the day are more often than not, top notch and filling. Yes the new owners continue to bake the thin crust "granny pizzas" the old Paddock was famous for. One exception I take to the menu: the sides. You can order a tasty ribeye, Thursday night prime rib, or several seafood dishes in the $12-20 range and these come with two "sides, one being a huge salad. The second choice is a paltry selection between salt-soaked baby baked potatoes, despicable cole-slaw, over-peppered nauseating broccoli or soggy fries. Paddock would go up a notch by simply offering rice, peas, SOMETHING more creative as a second side to complement otherwise well done and creative dishes. One other note: nights before holidays seem to attract as special crowd of rabble-rousers. Often these nights see patrons who maybe had a bit too much and while I've never seen an actual fight, if this is not your scene, maybe avoid Paddock at like 11pm on the night before Memorial Day, July 3, Labor Day Sunday, etc etc.. The good news is there is always security on staff and the crowd here is of all ages, from high schoolers on Wednesday wing night, to regulars who appear to be in the 50s to maybe even 70s. Had a good burger meal here in October, so treated the hubby in January. Our waiter was very good. E had the veggie stromboli ($11). It had a nice mix of veggies although some were under-cooked, but E said he'd get it again. I ordered the French dip ($9) because it has prime rib, and opted to pay extra for onion rings in lieu of potato chips. (Several years ago we ate prime rib at Hops in Fogelsville and recalled it being very good.) OMG! This was the BEST prime rib sandwich I've had in a restaurant, and the au jus was just as delicious. Some of the reviews here seem to be of the Paddock before the new owners took over. Since the change of ownership, they have improved dramatically. The updated decor is a huge improvement. This probably happened longer ago than I think, but I had been avoiding the place until I found out how much it had changed. Now I drop in regularly. The beer selection is above average. There are plenty of televisions with sporting events. It's great for NFL Sunday, NCAA Saturday, etc. The bartenders are friendly and on their game. The food is above average for a bar. The pizza is not New York style, but it is good and a nice change of pace from a "normal" pizza joint. (They may have NY style as well -- not sure, but I never tried it.) The outdoor seating area is nice when the weather cooperates. It can get a bit loud when busy. I do not mind. read more

Came here because they claim to have the widest beer selection, it's okay but nothing close to The Tavern. I ordered the beef and blue sala6d Romaine, steak, blue cheese crumbles, red onion, and mushrooms. The romaine was brown and dry. The mushrooms were stale. The steak had a good taste but was tough and I ordered it medium. I'm guessing I got e-coli from the Romaine immediately because I had to go to the bathroom as soon as the waitress took my plate away. I then go in the bathroom stall only to find ass splatter all over the seat. But I'm at the point of no return, I'm touching cloth, so I clean the seat with paper towels as best I could. Then I do my thing and they must buy their toilet paper at the dollar store because every time I pulled on it I got one thin sheet. I was finally able to pull enough for a proper wipe. Then I go to exit the stall only to find that I'm locked in. After several attempts to pry the door open I got on my stomach and low crawled underneath the door. I washed my hands for three minutes after that. I will never go back. One star cause I got a free glass with the beer I ordered. read more

Never underestimate an egotistical misogynist who should not be in charge of anything: This is going to be a rather lengthy post but for anyone who still cares about good customer service it is worth your time. I have organized 40-50 Happy Hours at work and have always found the restaurants most accommodating. Examples: PJ Whelihans, Ringers Roost, Roosevelt's, Chickie and Petes,Brew Works, Tilted Kilt, Bar Louie's...to name a few. After all restaurants are in the business of serving customers so who would not welcome a large or small group? I can tell you who that would be Hopps at the Paddock. About 2 years ago I organized a Happy Hour at Hops at the Paddock and was able to have a decent size group in the back room. I called several days before the planned Happy Hour and was told the room in the back is now $1000 to use. Now, that is laughable, because the Paddock is far from upscale. Another alternative for those interested in a much more customer oriented place try the 1760 House or Shanty where private rooms are at no cost with a group of 20-25. I was told that on a Friday night the Paddock does not take reservations, which I understood, but if I got there and there were tables available they could accommodate my group. When I arrived, the dining room was all but empty. One table had 4 people and another table had 2 people. I asked to put some tables together to accommodate about 20-30 people. Most restaurants are grateful for customers but I had to deal with absolute arrogance and rude management. The "manager" kept saying they could not accommodate a group that size. My question to them was there are 20 plus tables available what is the difference between 7 tables of 4 or one table of 28? When I said I was going to be very vocal with my displeasure, I was told they do not care as they have plenty of other customers. I can only assume the success of the Paddock has gone to Scott Hops head and filtered down to the staff. The staff basically either ignored me, when I expressed my displeasure with their attitude, threatened to call the cops and about 1 hour into our happy hour told everyone to leave and cleaned off the table. When the "manager" was rude why would the staff be pleasant? I admit I was very vocal with my displeasure with the treatment I received but I have been in Customer Service for 36 years and my company gives excellent customer service and I at least expect average customer service but what I got was downright deplorable. I am torn because I frequent Hops at Fogelsville at least 4 times a month and have never had anything but excellent customer service and have a great rapport with the staff. I do know I will NEVER ever step foot in the Paddock and will recite my experience to anyone who asks and may seriously consider boycotting the Fogelsville location. No worries, according to the staff, they have more business than they can handle. I can honestly say every employee was downright rude and they can thank the "Manager" Derrick Morgan for their attitudes. (I have no idea if that is truly his name). Ask anyone who has ever dealt with me, I am the most understanding and accommodating person, but when people are downright disrespectful I cannot tolerate that behavior. I know with all the options available for dining, if I owned or managed a restaurant, I would be cognizant of my customers and customer service. My apologies to my fellow friends and employees for an utterly disturbing happy hour. After some pretty bad service/food experiences as of late (inattentive waitstaff, stone cold potatoes with no substitution for other food unless we paid extra), I decided to give them another chance. I wanted to do a "baby gender reveal" with 10 of our closest family members. They have a very nice and private back room, so I called to make a reservation. Called one day, was told it was possible and someone would call me back. No return call. Next day I called again and was told that they don't take reservations on Friday or Saturday because they get too busy. After speaking with a manager, I was basically told I could try to come in, if it was available I could use the back room, but if it was too busy they could accommodate me. He said, "we can't tie up a table for only 10 people. If a table of 25 walks in, we would have no place to seat them." How many times do 25 people walk into a restaurant without a reservation it advance notice? So, instead of a guarantee of 10 people, they would rather turn us away in hopes they get a bigger party. I really like this place...food is usually always good. However, they need more outdoor servers. The last two times we were there they had two servers outside serving all of those tables by themselves with no help.
