The medical assistant, Jay, deserves a specific callout, as he was articulate and thorough from pre-op all the way through post-op questions. It felt personal rather than transactional. They're also structured with mapped out follow-up plans. Dr. Melikian's consultation was engaging and attentive. He flagged tissue scarring that had been noted at a prior eye exam, explained it clearly, confirming I was still an excellent LASIK candidate. What gave me even more confidence was that I independently followed up with a retina specialist afterward and his assessment aligned perfectly with Dr. Melikian. Going into surgery day, I'll admit I wasn't sure how I felt about having a separate surgeon (Dr. Youssef) from my consulting physician. Two different doctors felt like two different expectations. I was also bracing for something out of a horror movie. The reality felt like a Disney princess movie, calm, safe, and over before I knew it. Dr. Youssef's confidence alone is reassuring and combined with the sedatives, the whole procedure was pretty much effortless. I even came in with a chronic cough that day and it was a complete non-issue. Post-op at the Pasadena location matched the same energy, clean, organized, and welcoming. Update: 03/28/22…read more Okay first off, this is not for Dr. taban. His eye exams are always efficient and professional. This updated 2 stars is for the fee of a record request which I (required for application to graduate school) have already half way filled out. I received an eye exam about 2 weeks ago so it was recent. I think $15 is a bit excessive as quoted over the phone before I went. Not only that, Diana, the person who helped at the front desk said the fee was $21 dollars when I came in person. I had to tell her it was 15 to which she asked who I spoke to on the phone and it was corrected to 15. I was worried that there isn't a set policy hence I asked for a receipt to keep everything official, paper trail, and book keeping purposes. I understand there is a fee for the doctor to take his time to fill out but it should be a more reasonable $5. 15 dollars is excessive for something that could be gotten from a patient portal but include the doctors signature. I also had a more extensive medical request form for my dental and primary care doctor but none of them charged a fee. There is also a lack of communication WITHIN the office as everyone is confused when I first came and ask even though I called beforehand. I had to explain myself about 3 times every time I was told to go to another person. I'm just including this review in here to keep everyone ACCOUNTABLE and for FULL TRANSPARENCY of the office as well as leaving a paper trail of where funds are going.
