Eye check ups are few and far between for me so when I do go to an optometrist, I hope to have a good experience! Horizon Optometry is in a business and medical building right off of Beach Boulevard and it being on the second floor of the building made it pretty easy to spot. Parking was nice and easy. After walking in, I was already recognized for my appointment at the time even though it was my first time there! I really appreciated their preparedness knowing my appointment time and addressing me by my name. For my eye check up, I had Dr.Nguyen. She did an amazing job in making sure I was comfortable for all tests and took the time to answer all my questions. I was thankful for her knowledge and being open to educate me on eye health. She also helped a lot in showing me around the different frames they had available. Dr. Phuong is very knowledgeable & extremely friendly. This is my 1st time here at this Beach Blvd location. I usually go to the Bolsa location since it's close to my house but I actually like this new location better since the space is new, modern , spacious, & a bit less crowded. The staff here is friendly & the care here is absolutely amazing. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. I had a great experience there. However, I had a little nitpick about the phone calls. I noticed there was staff at the front all the time while I was there but for some reason they never picked up the phone when I called. I tried calling at different hours just in case the staff had to step out at some point, but still no luck in reaching them at anytime. Then I was directed to the voicemails so I had to leave a message not knowing how long I would have to wait for a response. The fastest I had gotten a call back was a day after but there was time when they didn't even get back to me until I called back again. I tried to be patient but it was very frustrating so maybe voicing it out could help them improve on connecting with their customers outside of the office. read more

Personally I was really disappointed with my visit, my appointment was for 3pm and I arrived early at 2:20. The front desk notified me that the Dr was with a patient and won't be able to see me early, not a big deal since I was early. They finished checking me in and did the pre-visit screening by 3pm. So I was waiting in the lobby and I waited all the way til 3:40 and still no news, no update at all from the front desk and no one checked in with me to let me know how much longer the wait would be. 1st, I'm a bonehead. 2nd, they are too kind. When I set up my appt, I was not aware of a 2nd horizon location as went to the wrong one. Completely my fault contrary to their apologies. The folks at the Bolsa location were kind enough to squeeze me in but unfortunately, I couldn't. Chia offered to reschedule me for the same day at the Beach/Hazard location. While I sat there, i watched and listen (i'm nosey) to Dr. Tea and Chia's interactions with patients, and I was impressed to how much attention they gave. Dr. Tea took care of my exam and it was very comprehensive. There were tests that I have never taken, but she explained every single thing in a clear, concise way that a normal person could understand and relate to. There's one thing to hear it but to make that easily make the connection in your mind was very impressive. She was clear with directions and responsive to my inquiries/issues which really shows she cares. When choosing a frame, they were NOT pushy! I HATE when it turns into sales!!! They were honest, made recommendations based on my thoughts, and asked for my opinion every step of the way, and I am almost clueless on this stuff. They didn't choose the brands or pricey options like many other shops do. They even asked if it was ok to show me brands before picking some out. I would highly recommend Dr. Tea and this location for any of your Optometry needs. Absolutely great customer service! I'll be back to pick out my frames. read more

I went to horizon after going to another Doctor that didn't help me. I haven't been able to see for months and I was so frustrated and scared I really didn't think I would be able to drive again. It's too long of a story to give all the details buttom line is I saw Dr Tea who knew what my problem was and now a couple months later I can see! This office and optometrists are great! I saw Dr. Nguyen a few weeks ago for an eye exam and contact lens fitting. I used to go to Kaiser, which is also pretty good, but it felt more personable. The office is on the second floor of a plaza with plenty of parking. It's very bright with large windows so you can test out your new contacts prescription and see the crisp leaves on the trees! The waiting room has a lot of different styles of glasses, ranging from affordable to high-end like Prada or Tiffany&Co. Dr. Nguyen greeted me at the front desk and brought me into the exam rooms immediately after I finished my paperwork, NO wait time!!! They have a lot of different machines to test eye pressure and take pictures of the back of the eye and so many others. They also checked the prescription in my glasses. Very high tech. Then she brought me into another room for the routine "1 or 2" tests. She explained everything and figured out my (extremely high) prescription. They even had sample contacts in my -10.00 prescription! She gave me a few different options to test out and I ended up choosing the cheaper but comfortable option. For someone who is practically blind without my contacts or glasses, comfort is important. I've worn hard contacts before and it was not fun. The exam, contact lens fitting, and contact lenses for a year was pretty affordable! They even sent my contacts to my house and I got them a few days later. I would highly recommend Horizon Optometry and Dr. Nguyen to anyone who wants a thorough eye exam with an English speaking (she also speaks Vietnamese) doctor who knows her stuff and is very personable. I decided to come back and get glasses with them last week. My contacts are super clear and comfy btw and I've been wearing these for a month. Dr. Nguyen helped me pick glasses that would look good on my face and were within my price range. She didn't try to get me to pick the more expensive frames either! She spent time analyzing and measuring the frames to make sure my eyes were centered so I wouldn't look cross eyed. She got me to try on different styles, even ones I am not used to, to give me lots of options. I ended up picking out a cute pair of slightly round glasses, which is very different for me. I am used to wearing square or rectangular shaped frames, but they looked so dang cute! I have to get the lenses thinned and hi-index with roll and polish (which is what I get for having -11 or so eyesight), so I expect it to take a while before I can pick them up. My dad hasn't seen an eye doctor recently because of the pandemic, so I scheduled an appointment for him the same day I came to pick out glasses. My dad is a very talkative and curious 75y/o man. He is also complicated because he doesn't listen to directions very well. Dr. Tea (who speaks Cantonese and Mandarin) was so amazing with him. She was also very thorough and explained everything to him in Cantonese. He was so impressed by the end of the visit that he was singing praises the entire drive home. She explained that he had some condition that his ophthalmologist and previous eye Dr never told him about. I remember his old doctors saying something about his pressure being high in the past but they said there was nothing to be done. Dr. Tea told us exactly what his pressures were and gave him eye drops to help lower it. My dad went home and told my mom she had to go, so now I have to schedule an appointment for my mom too. My parents are stubborn old Asian people who stick to doctors they are used to and refuse to change because "it's a hassle". I also highly recommend Dr. Tea! This office is wonderful, so go here if you want good exams, nice and smart doctors you can trust, and great selection! read more
