Was a solid overall experience, expected more though. Came up from Long Island for the Blaze and Halloween festivities. Saw a lot of great things about this place. To start we were quoted a 25 minute wait at 5pm which was super accurate. Upon sitting down it was a super small restaurant that they just seemed to jam tables into. Super uncomfortable. After waiting about 10 minutes the waitress made her way over and we were able to order drinks and a round of waters. I ordered a Moscow Mule my go to drink. The taste was very good was a little disappointed in the presentation and that they didn't have a copper mug. Next we ordered appetizers we ordered the Fried combo and the fried calamari. The food was very good and presented uniquely. For dinner I ordered the Knickerbocker which was widely regarded as their best burger. I ordered medium rare but it came out more medium to medium well, tasted good though. In conclusion I really liked the food there but I'd definitely want to try another spot when we come back next year. read more

We got there for brunch and were in time before the brunch menu ended but due to an error by the owner/hostess, we were forced to wait very long and weren't seated until afterwards. Their regular menu has very few options for vegetarians, other than the usual uninteresting fare such as a veggie burger. When I tried to explain to the owner why we were leaving after we decided there was nothing we could order, she became immediately aggressive and hostile. Started shouting at me in front of others. I was shocked because I was only trying to explain why we were choosing to leave. Solid food with friendly, efficient staff. Our group arrived at 5pm on a busy October weekend and waited about an hour. Our server was welcoming and checked up on us frequently despite the place being absolutely slammed. Food-wise, we were all satisfied! The turkey pot pie soup hit the spot after a long day of walking around in brisk autumn weather. Among other items, our group tried the Arthur Ave and John Paulding wedge sandwiches -- both were solid, though I'd be wary of the Arthur Ave disintegrating in the tomato sauce if you eat it too slowly. Expect a longer wait on days with major events around the area, especially weekends in autumn (and October specifically with Halloween events around town). I can't believe it needs to be said, but don't be a straight up blight on society by yelling at the staff when the wait is long and you've refused seats both on the patio and the bar. Suck up the wait, find somewhere else to go, or leave your embarrassing, trashy attitude at home -- it's that simple. All in all, I wouldn't say our experience was worth the hour-long wait, but given the fair price point and solid food and service, I would absolutely stop by again if it were less busy (which it sounds like it usually is). If you're passing by and the wait doesn't look morbid, I'd recommend giving Horsefeathers a try. read more

Red sauce super salty. The awesome chicken was just a friend thin breast buried in brown sauce. Burger seemed pretty good. * Ambiance was odd. We sat outside, and several of the older locals bring their dogs. So the people next to us had a dog under the table, it would bark and beg them for food and bark again. We had seen the lines for brunch outside this spot and wanted to see what the fuss was about. We went for dinner and wished we had gone for brunch instead. Normally my thinking is paying a lot for some eggs is wasted (unless its extraordinary). However, the dinner was just ordinary. First off they were out of their famous cocktail, so that was an instant minus. No draft beers either, all bottles. Minus #2. Little one enjoyed her shake though, so thumbs up there. For an appetizer we had the onion rings. They were extra-greasy, extra-extra crispy (too much that they fell apart) and not as enjoyable as they could have been. I like my fried food crispy and browned for flavor but this was too much and made it not enjoyable. I got the #1 burger with cheese, mushrooms and hot sauce. It was cooked to order, and ok. Fries were actually potato wedges (like you get with brunch, hmmmmm). A cuban sandwich was had. It was also dry and needed some moisture. Burger for the little one was good. All-in-all, this was a meh experience. Service was friendly and attentive, so that was one plus. My recommendation is to don't go for dinner, they are clearly focused on brunch. read more

The food is was sooooo disappointing and not sure why it is so hyped. The French onion soup was literally the worst I've had. It was made with a very flavorless chicken broth or vegetable broth. The onions were crunch my and not cooked. I ate the cheese on top.... My husband ordered a burger with coleslaw. The slaw wasn't bad. The burger was seasoned well but it was topped with cold thick cheese that didn't melt. We also got a side of potatoes. They were cooked well but hard to mess up deep fried potatoes. read more

I wish I had the option to give this place 3.5 stars, since it didn't necessarily live up to 4. It's a perfect restaurant to go to on a cozy day, as the inside is quite dark. The menu options are pretty standard, burgers, sandwiches, salads. I thought the food was reasonably priced for what you get. None of the dishes were remarkable, but good for a basic lunch. I wouldn't run back here from out of town. There were a lot of people waiting on line for tables when we were sitting down. I don't think this place is worth the wait. Stopped by for Sunday brunch and was seated immediately. They have a big menu for brunch. We ordered 2 mochas for a starter and they give baskets of baked goods. They were delicious! It was a cold day so I ordered a Manhattan clam chowder and a avocado, mushrooms, and tomatoes omelett. I comes with a side and toast. I chose fries and white toast for my order. My boyfriend ordered a spinach, mushrooms with bacon omelett. He had a side of sweet potato hash with whole wheat toast. My soup arrived half warm and half hot. I don't know how that was even possible. The soup was steaming when it arrived at the table but one side was just luke warm. Then my omelett arrived with big chunks of potatoes that no way resembling fries. After a few bites into my omelett I realized that they put whole cherry tomatoes inside. Its probably the strangest omelett I've ever seen. The mushrooms were big and chunky, whole tomatoes and the cheese inside was so thick that it just coats your teeth. The side of toast had so much butter in it that it looked like cream cheese. I cant speak for my boyfriends omelett but he seemed to have enjoyed it. The portions were huge so we ended up taking it home with us. Service was good. The food was ok. It would be better if the kitchen would chop the ingredients a bit more uniformly. This is a sort of hidden and odd gem that I met a friend at one evening. It is located on North Broadway which is the main and/or primary street in the area. The restaurant is directly next to a "Town cleaners," and a wine merchant. Unfortunately, we did not see any sort of parking lot. However, the street was lined with street parking spots that are metered and require change. The food that we ordered, although basic, was delicious and happened to be perfect given our circumstances. My friend and I split a cheeseburger and sweet potato fries. When it came to the cheese part, choose cautiously!! I accidentally chose this form of cheddar cheese that was almost like cheese-wis. Yet, I did choose it, so that was on me. After scraping 80% of it off, the burger was right on. The martini menu was long and full of options. I chose a sugar rimmed lemon drop. It was plenty tasty but what was even better was that they also gave me the remainder of the drink - the part that was leftover from the bartenders shake. I thought that was VERY cool. Describing this place in an article overall manner is difficult. I suppose I would say it had the atmosphere of a small old bar... but, the food options were almost that of a diner. The menu was so lengthy and had so many options. It was probably 4 pages full of different cuisines. Personally, I get nervous about menus that offer almost 100 options! The place is quaintly rundown, eccentric, and borderline tacky.. but wonderfully so! The look worked. Although the style is totally different, the wall coverage reminded me of Tom's Diner, in Brooklyn. It certainly pays homage to history and specifically it highlights all of the local history. Plenty of parking behind the building off Main Street. Although we tried to make advance reservations, we couldn't get through on the phone lines (turns out, they are having some phone issues). We arrived around noon on a Sunday. The sweet hostess (she acted like the owner maybe???) found a great spot and seated us immediately. Yummy mixed bread basket was so yummy with everything from cornbread to scones to cinnamon-sugar toast and more. Drinks were brought out right away as were our salads and we shared an awesome bowl of chili. This was so thick and rich that we all used our forks...shredded cheese, chopped onions & croutons on the side to add or not. The Roast Beef and Turkey is roasted in-house so one of the things we ordered was the Broadway Dip Wedge. See photos for details. Roast beef was spot-on. Not too much or too little on the sandwich. This is an excellent place. We went to see a show nearby and this was within walking distance. Inside is very quaint and has an antique library theme. The drinks are made well and the bar is nice to eat at also. It has a cozy intimate feel in the dining area. They specialize in burgers, sandwiches and pasta. Anything you order should be good. They have a thorough selection of sauces and condiments which is helpful. You can customize a lot. I was very happy I went. read more

This place envelops you in the warmest, friendliest vibe on your first step inside. Beautiful big portraits of authors make it feel like it's been there since the 1800s, though actually it opened in 1981. It's like Cheers but better. Bar is super friendly & we had dinner there. Had to have a reservation for a Saturday night in November, but the bar suited us just fine. Bartender was super friendly -- we tipped 30%. Chill vibe, so comforting, a lot of beautiful historic details. Not too loud, even when completely full. Butternut squash soup is DIVINE. Lots of flavor & a dash of nutmeg for a surprising hit of warmth. Then I had the gorgonzola roasted veggie salad (big, filling) and my friend was eager to have her favorite tuna on rye again. 5 stars for the festive fall/Halloween decor during the autumn months, but 3 stars for the food unfortunately. I ordered the Cobb salad and had to pick out all of the meat as it was totally charred and inedible. The bacon was black and burnt to a crisp, and the chicken had burnt grill marks all over it. The French fries from the kids menu were actually thick potato wedges, which might not be a big deal for most, but for a picky toddler there is a huge difference. I wish they had specified the fries were actually potato wedges so I could have ordered something different. The womens bathroom needs a deep cleaning and fresh paint... There was so much built up grime on the walls, they were filthy. Staff was friendly and attentive, and we were happy to be seated quickly even on a busy weekend night. read more

I love old school bars/restaurants and this place is a classic. Old school worn out wood bar and tables/booths. Not the most comfortable but love the feel of the place. The food is great. All done on premise, even the turkey is cooked fresh on premise! The turkey dinner was a great comfort and filling meal. The chicken parm had nicely crisped chicken breast and was juicy and tasty! I love the croutons on the bar as snack....genius! I've never seen that before! Great selection of beers. Service is one of the best anywhere. Everybody in the place helps and covers to make for a great experience. The first time I was there I wasn't sure who was the bartender because I had 3 different people helping and they were so attentive and informative on the menu. Meh is the exact word I would use to describe this place. I've heard wonderful things about Horsefeathers from friends, but my own experience was lackluster and left much to be desired, both from the food and from the wait staff. Food was mediocre at best. Burgers were super greasy and the medium cooked burgers were closer to well done. I was also not particularly a fan of their steak fries, which are really more potato wedges than fries. Let's just call them what they are please. I would have gone with the sweet potato fries if I'd known that I was getting wedges instead. Service was also lackluster overall very unfriendly, partially because we were seated way in the back and not really able to flag anyone down. For example, we had all asked for lettuce and tomatoes on our burgers, but no one got any. The one person in our party that had ordered a side of fries had to remind the waitress that we were missing the side of fries after we had all got our food. It also took quite some time to get someone to grab us the check. I don't think I will be coming back to this place any time soon. I'd rather grab my burger and fries at a fast food joint. read more

Really bad food - my veggie burger was uncooked, hard as rocks that it hurt my jaw, and raw. I would only go for the atmosphere. What place messes up a veggie burger by not cooking it? I also got one of those juice margarita drinks but the waiter and waitress couldn't even help me with opening it and made me use their pen to stab a hole in the drink...what type of restaurant does that? For the $26 investment, you will get a large, delicious, white cream drenched crepe (3 technically), filled with scrumptious shrimp, scallops, flounder, and mushrooms!! I like to think I get hungry and am able to eat my full share. There is no pretending I can eat all this though. Which is great, cause it reheats great after a brief trip to the oven.
