Love the historic town of Ticonderoga. Love the people who are nice and friendly. That said, the food at the Hot Biscuit Diner left little to be desired. The chicken fried steak was tough and gravy was lumpy. The biscuit was underbaked and doughy. The waitress was nice, but the way she "cleaned" our table was scary. The same rag that just graced a few dirty tables before us made a hasty whoosh on our table to knock the crumbs on our chairs and the floor, but the table top was still wet with a mixture of former guests spilled beverages. The hot biscuit diner is an absolute treat tucked away in Ticonderoga. I have seen old reviews say that they won't take anything but cash but that's not the case anymore. Not only do they take credit cards but they also have a restaurant.com coupon that you can purchase ahead of time to save money. Most of the breakfast combinations come with your choice of a bagel, bread or biscuits. But I have always considered it a little sacrilegious to eat at a place called the Hot Biscuit and not get a biscuit. The biscuits are about the size of a baseball and are light and fluffy. I like this diner very much so don't take the next statement as a negative. But don't be in a rush for your food. They always take longer than you think. So sit back and relax and enjoy conversation with a friend or family member and don't stress about the time. If you put more importance on speed rather than taste and a pleasant environment then there is a McDonald's just down the street. The hashbrowns are excellent and the waffles are some of the best I have ever had. I wish there were a few different combinations to enjoy all the items that they offer but that is for another day. Being new in town, I am trying to try out all of the local restaurants. The hot biscuit diner did not disappoint! I had the pot roast special followed up with homemade blueberry pie, with a dollop of ice cream. The pot roast was tender and moist and had great flavor. The mashed potatoes and gravy were the real deal. What really stole the show was the biscuit they came on the plate. Very light and tender! When the waitress asked if I'd save room for dessert my response was hell yes! I tried the blueberry pie with a dollop of ice cream on top. Amazing flavor. Excellent piecrust-flaky and tender. Went to this diner for lunch on Saturday during visit to Ticonderoga for William Shatner appearance at the Star Trek Original set event. . It was crowded , so our only seating option without a wait was at the counter. We sat, the waitress came over and gave us menus. After a few minutes, she took our food and drink orders. After 15 minutes our drink were empty and we watched both waitresses fill drink orders for many patrons passing directly by us. Also noticed 1/2 dozen women dressed in catering t-shirts filling their own drinks and moving in and out of the kitchen. Finally after another 10 minutes, our waitress came near and I was able to grab her attention to get a drink refill.. Waited another 15-20 and asked the waitress about how much longer our meal would be, she told me there was one table that had to be fed before us. Next another patron came into the restaurant and was seated at the counter.... Our waitress engaged the new customer and gave her a drink and a setup which we didn't have yet... watched waitress go in and out of kitchen a number of times..sone with food and so empty handed. Also watched her handle some salad fixings while moving around the restaurant touching many things including cash and not wearing gloves or washing her hands. Finally after about one hour our food arrived. She supplied us setups at this point. We ordered, a tuna melt and Turkey melt, one with onion rings and one with fries, so nothing that should have taken a long time. The sandwiches were good, but the onion rings looked triple fried. So after we finished , we got the check and the up charges for the fries and onion rings were significant compared to the meal price. we looked at the menu and it was listed but not mentioned by the waitress. I never have any issues with waiting but would like some heads up. Hey we are really backed up in the kitchen so it will be a bit, no problem. Check in with me periodically and at least fill my drink. As long as I feel like you are trying, I can overlook even a long wait. I usually don't like to give bad reviews and in fact always try to give benefit of the doubt, but just had to say something. I hope this was a fluke, but will not go there again. read more

We were staying for one night and had been driving all day. We stopped in and ordered food to go. They were so nice to us--they were really busy, but took time to talk a bit while we ordered. When we came back to pick it up, it was ready. There was so much food and it was so reasonably priced. Everything was homemade--best biscuits, best baked beans--it was all amazing. My brother and I stopped here for lunch. He has been here many times, but this was my first time. There is a parking lot out front, but when we pulled up it was full so we parked on the street. It was moderately crowded, but we went in and found an open table. Our waitress was nice. We ordered lunch, and it took a while for us to get our food. After a repeated downhill slide I have to say this may be my last visit. Poor slow service to start followed up with 2 small blueberry pancakes $6, 3 pencil thickness sausages $3.50 and an a dollar extra for supposed real maple syrup has probably ended my visits here. Typical small town diner food so don't expect your health food options. Two teenage boys, my husband and I stopped in for a late breakfast and all of us were pleased. The biscuits and chocolate chip pancakes were fabulous. Large portions, inexpensive, great service until a large number of people came in, but then the waitstaff was able to catch up. My wife and I had lunch here after a fun tour at the new Star Trek Original Series Set Tour in town. It's a seat yourself place and we grabbed a booth without issue. Our waitress took a bit to get to us so I grabbed menus off the counter and we were ready to order when she finally came over to offer us menus. I would think that it would be best if each table and booth already had menus on them since it's a seat yourself kind of diner. Once our waitress was engaged with us though, she was friendly and attentive. We got refills without issue and our food came out promptly. The food itself was very good. I had a turkey club that was huge and made with fresh turkey. My wife had a burger that was thick and cooked to perfection. The fries were pretty tasty too. Prices were fair and ambiance is decent. Overall the place gets a thumbs up but I would recommend being proactive about getting a menu right away unless you're in no hurry. read more

Came here this morning for breakfast on our way to Vermont. I had the biscuits and gravy, my grandma had a short stack, and my grandpa had some eggs over easy. We all got bacon on the side. I was pretty impressed with the size of the biscuits, they're huge!! But I was disappointed with the gravy and the bacon. The gravy was nothing special and the bacon was vaguely reminiscent of the pre cooked stuff you get at the grocery store. But the service was good and the prices were even better. Place is utterly disgusting and the food comes straight out of a can. Service: Let's start with the service, my wife and I joined her family for breakfast on a Sunday morning. We had a total of 12 in our party and at first I thought they were fairly patient with us and even the waitress mentioned that we were the easiest party because our orders were simple and to the point. She did mention that they were getting slammed with all of the trekis (Star Trek fans) that were in Ticonderoga because of an event that was taking place at the nearby Star Trek studios. Food: This is were the Hot Biscuit Diner scores the ultimate low. My sister-in-law and I had bad food poisoning the following day. All morning I had the runs and couldn't even drive all the way to work the following morning. We narrowed it down to the dairy or possibly the sausage in the sausage gravy, one or the other. We were the only two in our party that fell ridiculously sick. Everyone else complained about the home fries being burnt, and how expensive the food is. For a party of 12 my mother-in-law paid $140.00, that's not including the tip. Oh! and my sister-in-law had the corned beef hash that came straight out of a can. It looked and tasted disgusting. Its no surprise that Ticonderoga's inhabitants live below the poverty line for the most part, but state officials and local figures should support businesses and improve the quality of life in and around the area. This will bring more tourism and allow for businesses like the Hot Biscuit Diner to continue being places to visit while in town. Overall, the food sucks and you're better off going to the local farmers market and cooking some fresh food to eat at home. I don't really support any of the other restaurants in Ticonderoga as a majority of the food is frozen or straight out of a can. Think about it, Ticonderoga has no local butcher shops and no good market stores selling fresh produce.....so where are these local restaurants getting their food?. We stopped in for the first time today. It was a terrible experience. To start, we were very surprised that at 11:02 a.m. breakfast is not available. We ended up ordering an all day omelette and a salad. 50 minutes later, we were still seated without any food coming out and the server never came by to say anything at all. My husband approached the server after we were waiting nearly an hour and still not getting our food and told her we were going to leave. My girlfriend and I came to have breakfast on the Fourth of July. The server seemed inexperienced and a bit awkward. We ordered coffees and a water. After waiting ten minutes I went up to the counter and asked for them. She was polite and apologetic. It was a busy morning being a Holiday and all. The lady told us before we sat that it could take up to 30 minutes. Love that she gave us that heads up! Did not mind waiting at all because the food was Delicious!!!!!!! Pancakes are on point, breakfast sandwich to die for and the bread was fresh and great. Coffee wasn't good but overall the ambiance was comforting and homey. Don't bother unless you have 2 hours to kill. We waited for an hour to get our meal (hot turkey sandwich, mashed potatoes & carrots and a turkey club sandwich a coke and a water) a no brainer for any real diner. not here. You might think that keeping people waiting that long they might bring some of their hot biscuits but no food hit the table for an hour. No beverage refills were offered. Food finally shows up carrots turned out to be canned string beans, canned gravy slopped over two slices of white bread with 3 slices of deli turkey in between and a scoop of INSTANT mashed potatoes the box they came in would have tasted better. Come on, who serves instant mashed potatoes. The turkey club was not a whole lot better. So the best thing about this meal was the beverages. Go to McDonalds down the road at least you know what to expect and won't be disappointed. Can't see how anybody could rave about this place keep driving read more
