I've driven past this spot several times but today decided to finally stop in. I ordered the Meat Lover's Breakfast which comes with 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon, sausage, ham, hashbrowns or grits, and your choice of pancakes, biscuits or toast. I had asked for well browned hash browns and that request was not fulfilled. There was something off about the taste of the hashbrowns, and the ham had a metal taste to it. I did request 1 extra egg to be added to my order and I was charged as such, but not sure I received the extra egg. I've heard about this place awhile back, co-worker mentioned that they're open 24hrs...so I decided to give it a try (breakfast). The restaurant is old and dirty. Clientele are mostly if not all Mexican (no offense). They had a breakfast buffet for $8.99 that consists of stale pancakes, French toasts, dried out grits, sausage, bacon, & watery scrambled eggs (gross). Fruits that must've been cut from the night before. The employees didn't seem like they wanted to serve you though she offered to make the eggs fresh if we didn't like the scrambled eggs, I declined bc the service was slow to begin with and I was in a hurry. I wish I should've then I can make a better review of the place. Needless to say I never finish my food bc it was just not good at all. I should've just gone to jack in the box. Stopped into Hot Biscuit yesterday after a long flight. The service/staff were excellent and very kind. Food was delicious (mostly diner food) with a solid price considering the ample portions. Restaurant was very clean too! Would definitely go back especially when I'm very hungry. read more

Today I went into Hot Biscuit where there was a sign that said "Please Wait to be Seated" I stood and waited patiently for about 10 mins and nobody acknowledged me, the servers walked passed me and never said a word. Another couple came in after me waiting 10 minutes and the server rushed over to let them know where they could be seated then proceeded to cash out another customer, still never acknowledging me. Well this place was as described by many. Great big portions, price value, but not that tasty. Had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and carrots. Plus the salad bar. You want the steak smothered, this place pours on the gravy. Just not a lot of taste. Salad dressing was a little thin. Tried the ranch, blue cheese, and thousand island. Basically the only restaurant opened at 8:30pm on a Tuesday evening in the area of our hotel. The Astro's game was on the tv however the restaurant had only a couple of customers. The salad bar was closing up so I ordered the Salisbury Steak dinner and my wife ordered the club sandwich with fries. Both meals had generous portions and were very delicious. This place deserves more than 2.5 stars. That's what scared me when I entered the premises, but it was more pleasant than expected. I was scouting around for dining options before dropping a friend off at IAH and stumbled upon this place. All day menus with good and attentive service. I ordered the pork chops and eggs, and you can choose between an option of bread or PANCAKES. What a treat, I've never seen any diner give away free pancakes as a side. But it's not particularly good either. And when it comes to their portions, "small" is to be emphasized. For thirteen dollars, the seafood platter will get you three small pieces of butterfly shrimp, two small stuffed crabs, two pieces of fried fish, two hush puppies, a piece of toast, and a small portion of fries and onion rings. The food also looked and tasted about the same as something you'd find in the freezer aisle of your nearest grocery store; the fries and toast were especially bad, but the onion rings and hush puppies were actually very good. In terms of their service, the Hot Biscuit is actually pretty solid. Though their choice of decor could basically be described as, "everything is wood except for the cushions and the TV." Not to say that is a bad thing or can be helped. The pictures of famous landmarks, such as Persepolis and the Acropolis are actually a really nice touch, and the restaurant has a certain small town feel to it that's hard to describe. It was also very clean when we went. I don't think I would eat here again if I had the choice, but I also don't think this place is terrible or irredeemable. They really just need to improve the quality of the items on their menu and increase their portion sizes. read more

Be careful when you order beef at this establishment. I come here all the time and the seafood is good but on the one day I was with my family from Mexico made one of my cousins' sick. The hotel said people and flight crews really like it. 2.5 stars on yelp, but a lot of old reviews. The ones about the food were mostly good. When I walked in the door I saw the fuming server/hostess had issues working here. After asking that my table be wipe off, she reseated me and told the manager that I refused to sit there because the table was dirty. Taking my order was quite the burden for this woman. My food come out just as ordered. I'm surprised. I tasted the catfish, it was great. I tasted the stuffed crab ... ice crystals. After finally getting her attention, I explained the problem and sent the crab back, no plate, in her hands. Much to my surprise she delivered the exact same crab, but this time it was burnt. At least she delivered it on a plate. I can't believe she would have the gall to deliver burnt food. She couldn't believe I complained again. I requested one prepared properly and she said, "I'll ask the boss". A few minutes later the boss delivers a stuffed crab prepared properly. Falling off the wagon in four parts. Part 1: It Happened One Night I seem to travel to Houston a lot these days which I refer to as "travel." My life more or less revolves around being fairly healthy at home with special attention on diet and exercise and, travel, which is often another story. When at home, bicycling is my exercise of choice and I ride an average of 20 miles each day. I eat oatmeal with blueberries almost every day, sometimes eating oatmeal while riding - that's how healthy I am. When I travel, even though I have the best intention, my willpower seems to fade like so much morning fog on a summer day. My choices on this fine Houston evening (10:30 PM) were Jack-In-The-Box, Taco Bell and Hot Biscuit - this strip's only 24 hour restaurant, or should I say, greasy spoon. Seeing as how I had dined at Taco Bell twice last week back-to-back - dinner, skip breakfast, lunch - my best option seemed to be the HB (I call it that now that I've been there once). I decided on something high in protean at least - an omelet with ham. But, the cheese (loads of shredded cheap stuff), along with home fries saturated with saturated lipids, and wheat toast (bread actually, it wasn't really toasted) foreshadowed my header from the wagon of good health. I ate all of the eggs, all of the ham, all of the cheese and all of the bread. No, I did not eat the greasy potatoes, so I convinced myself that I was still, for all practical purposes, riding on the wagon. 1 stars for being open late 1 star for sustenance 1 star for calling me "hon" and "dear" and familiar epithets like that.
