The first time this franchise was tried in a different location was just the best and since they have expanded it has been a mediocre experience. Secondly, when you pay out for an experience it should be spot on and has to bring you back because you have a certain perspective of a dish and want to enjoy it to your fullest, and that was something broken by fries which were really poorly done and felt like they were stale. So we order HCT from this location fairly regularly. Always good. Tonight we ordered 3 meals, picked up and the food is burned beyond edible. Wondered if the oil was old and that's why they were so dark (third plate, chicken breast is fine) so we tried to taste, but it was hard and burned, yuck! If you can't tell from the other reviews I have written on HCT's other Yelp pages (North Market, Clintonville, Easton and Crocker Park), I am one of their biggest fans! Needless to say, that's also the sentiment of most Central Ohioans. This is some of the most wholesome, delicious chicken you will ever eat. I am obsessed with the perfect array of spices that make up the "hot" seasoning. It's my go-to and I dream about it often. My preferred order is the Hot Chicken Sandwich. I get it with just pickles on top and then TONS of ranch on the side for dipping. Their ranch is out of this world (they even sell it by the bottle!). I also love their Mac & Cheese-- I dip that in ranch too. So all told, half of my calories when I'm eating HCT probably just come from the ranch. Hah! They also offer up free tea-- I like to do mine half sweet and half unsweet. It's the perfect mix of sweetness! I have written this on their other pages, but I'd love to see a chocolate pudding dessert offering. They had a limited time offer one with the Girl Scouts. It was a hit-- I'd love to see them bring it back in Oreo form. YUM! I also would love a potato side option-- waffle fries seem like they'd be a good fit here. First time customer. Chicken tenders were hot, fresh, tasty and good portion for the $. The chicken legs were good but small for the price. Fries were broken, small and dark. Mac and cheese was ok, but not a great value for the price. Interior was minimalistic which was fine, but didn't appreciate having to look at a nasty broom and dust pan next to the trash can while eating. Loved the Chicken, everything else not so much. I first started going to Hot Chicken Takeover when they had their restaurant in the North Market. The food was great and the service was awesome and the vibe was warm and friendly. But now I have to acknowledge the place has gone downhill. Ordered takeout today and noticed that the prices were way up. You used to get 2 sides with a dinner for about $10. Now just the chicken and bread is $10. A small side is $3.50! Went to pick it up and as I waited my shoes STUCK to the floor. I moved way over. They stuck WORSE! How the hell does a cement floor get that sticky? Are they throwing soda on it? My server grabbed my food and two drinks. One straw fell to the floor. She put it down and walked away- only one straw I guess! I tipped 15% for that lovely service. I got back to the office. Food was cold. No utensils. No napkins. Just go buy a can of $1 baked beans - you'll pay less, get more, and they taste the same. They chicken was hot, but not flavorful. The chicken used to be amazingly moist with this beautiful spicy crust. This chicken I had problems cutting into. The thoughts of how dirty that place must be with that disgusting floor kept haunting me as I ate. So, goodbye HCT. We will not meet again. read more

The food here is always delicious. I got the chicken light warm this time (I usually do no spice) and it was the perfect amount of kick once you add some of their amazing house ranch. I also tried their fries which are new since I was last here and they were honestly perfect. Between a shoestring and a handcut size. Made for a great crunchy exterior and soft interior. My main grievance with my most recent visit was that I waited over 30 minutes for my food. I was told they were out of mac and cheese but it was in the oven and would be 10-15 mins. It ended up being about 35 and I was eventually told that the mac takes 40 minutes in the oven. I would have appreciated they be honest with the wait time and ask what I'd like to do. I would have preferred just getting a refund on the mac and getting the rest of my food then because I was so extremely hungry. We eventually got our mac and cheese but we were full on chicken and fries by then so it went home untouched to become leftovers. No refund or any compensation was offered which bummed me out. But despite this issue, I will be back because the food is just so good. I do wish they'd go back to free tee and ranch though, especially when chicken with 2 sides is almost $20 as it is. read more

Super impressive and top notch service combined with classic, clean dipping and sauce selections. The chicken breading on the wings were perfectly done and how about those massive chicken breasts! It was a toss up go to KFC which is closer or HCT, I figured HCT would be better quality and just better all around. Nope the chicken (2thighs) was luke warm at best and way overcooked and I got fresh cut fries @4.00 which are supposed to be cooked to order.....Nope cold and looked like I got the last bits that were cooked earlier, a bunch of tiny pieces that are difficult to eat. I live just 3 minutes away so it wasn't the drive that made them cold. So at KFC at least I'm prepared for not so great food but the worst KFC I've had was better than this and would have been cheaper!! Fantastic fried chicken, never been disappointed by the food at any of the locations I have tried-- Easton, Polaris, and Downtown Columbus. Keep in mind I am vegetarian, so I'm probably not best equipped to be reviewing a hot chicken place. However, I had visited HCT a few times before I stopped eating meat. They now have vegan/vegetarian options, which is why I decided to stop by again. I ordered Nuggs at the warm spice level and baked beans. I think the spice levels at HCT are a lil out of whack. The warm is supposed to be a bit lower than the traditional Nashville heat (which is really spicy if you have ever been to Nashville). Instead it was a bit of cayenne pepper after-taste. This is fine, just be warned if you want something spicy go for the Hot or Holy spice levels. I consider myself a bean man, and the baked beans here are amazing. Perfectly smokey and sweet.
