I woke with dreams of Pete's cafe in Addison but no no gotta check out something new. Equal distance. 8 miles to Pete's. 8 miles to this spot. Smh. You are 15 feet away. Got some luke warm food 10 min later. Nothing with flavor. Air tastes better. I thought the bacon was burned dark as it was but it was decent. No one asked how anything was. I got a to go box after tasting some of everything. 30 min later.. Toilet. Day later my belly is still filled with regret.. Threw out the leftovers. Ummmm, so I had high hopes for this place. "Hot Pancakes", right? First, things that come out to the table is the pancakes... oh, they smelled so good! I took a taste without the syrup, just butter on them.... so delicious! The rest of the food went down from there. I wish I took a pic of my sad little side plate of 3 bacon straws (not strips) because they were so thin and unappetizing looking. I never add salt to my food, but this needed so much more seasoning. If you're on a budget and are not too picky, this place has you covered. It's very dated-the menu has pictures that appear to have been taken with a very old camera-and were never updated. Signs throughout the restaurant look the same. Service was ok-although we did have to ask for refills and for direction on paying our check. (They don't bring it to your table, you go up to the counter when you're done eating and tell them what you ordered. Then you pay.) It's always with a heavy heart when I occasionally give a business one star... Everything about this restaurant is Wrong! Upon arriving we felt like we were a bother to the wait staff, all huddled together, having a private conversation. The restaurant looked on the dirty side, lots of tables also needed bussing. Our food was cold & the coffee tasted burnt, like it had been on the burner way too long. I asked for a couple of extra paper napkins for the 2 of us, and my server brought ONE, lol. Tables are way too close together. It was so bad we didn't even finish our meal! My question is...how do you mess up so badly on breakfast service??? Answer...Hot Pancakes!!!! Came for the reviews and now I believe the hype. The service is great, fast and friendly. The food is delicious. I got the sausage link, scrambled eggs and banana nut pancakes. The hash browns were seasoned (unlike some other places) The decaf coffee actually tasted like there was no caffeine (which is why I asked for decaf) The entire place is more like a diner in a strip center next to a gas station. So it wasn't that big, maybe 15 ish tables. But it was very cozy and felt welcoming. Nothing cramped about it at all. Nice spot in Richardson to get some actually good tasting food that is worth the price. Plus the prices are VERY reasonable. Would have reduced to four stars as the eggs (scrambled) and sausage were more or less what I could make at home. The sausage were the round kind and not the little smokey style (the ones like a small dog poop) so I was suspicious that they might be some white label brand. That will forever remain a secret at this point. Five star rating floats in though due to the service. it was stellar. The phone rang for about twenty minutes straight and the lady said there are not enough people to answer the phone. The two waitresses were running but never missed a beat. When I got up to pay, I answered the phone and they hung up. I was sick of it ringing and I guess they realized I was not qualified to take their "to go"order. The high point was the bacon. It was cooked to perfection. Super crispy with no excess grease. I would not eat here often as I would probably die of a heard attack but as far as general comfort food goes, you can take down a good meal here. This place is right next to the 7-11 in the gas station-strip mall. The portions are big, prices are cheap. Food is also nothing extraordinary but consists of typical American staples. Nothing is high quality here, but it seems to fit the bill for affordable comfort diner food, and I haven't seen any in Dallas that matches this place in terms of both portion and price. The pancakes were nothing to write about - a little on the salty/ savory side even if the pancakes were well made. Want the recipe? It's written on the wall, literally. And I saw even a kid get a Micky Mouse pancake to get his day started. Super cute. I also saw that there's pumpkin spice pancakes in the menu. Interesting. Hash browns were not toasted enough to my liking since it was pretty thick. Eggs were great. Hard to mess up scrambled eggs but I was pleased here. Chicken fried steak tastes good even though it looks premade. Although it's thickness make me think otherwise. That being said, the breakfast burrito is probably your best bet here. You can add an avocado for a 75 cents up charge too. The service was friendly and all of the workers are teenagers or folks just starting in their 20s. This also seem to be run by a Vietnamese family since there were a lot of Vietnamese workers. I wouldn't be able to tell just by looking at the menu though. And the ambience is clean, updated, and organized. Good for families with children, especially for those who just need to save money without compromising on a good meal.
