My wife and I were looking for a quick bite to eat and due to leaving right after work we didn't want a wait of much time. Thankfully this buffet popped up and we decided to give it a shot. On the smaller side compared to some buffets I have gone to but despite that have a good variety of options. At least enough that everyone in your party should find something. Lots of drink options including some boba milk tea. The tables are adorned with beautiful artwork which was a nice touch and staff was friendly. The biggest negative was a majority of the food being closer to cold than hot and warm. This was disappointing due to us being there at what seemed like a busy time. Also along the lines of the food nothing we had really wowed us either. I would best describe it all as average hence the three stars. The prices were reasonable with the pina colada being under 10, that was a surprise. We were curious what a buffet would be like here in Chelsea and didn't leave disappointed - the price point is definitely the most enticing here and worth it in my opinion! We came on a Sunday for dinner and the place was pretty busy - most tables were full, but there was always at least one table free at all times so no real wait. Service was okay with refilling drinks, but plates were cleared pretty often. The food selection is decent, good variety of dishes and refilled frequently. The crawfish is definitely the draw of the place - every time it came out, a line would suddenly appear and the pan would be emptied within a few minutes. We also saw a table exclusively only eating the crawfish which was pretty funny. Desserts were plentiful and while the ice cream was a little suspicious given there was only one scooper and anyone could grab it, I still enjoyed it as a nice treat. Overall, we left satisfied - amazing price, decent food, okay ambiance (felt a bit dirty, but it's a buffet); would definitely come back if looking for a cheap meal! read more

This was my first buffet visit in months and it was nice to see what new safety protocols the restaurant was taking. The waitresses were all wearing gloves and masks and there was tape and Do Not Sit signs at every other table. Just had dinner here with my girlfriend on a Monday night. Even on a Monday, the restaurant was busy, but we had no trouble getting a table. The place is brightly lit and the seating was comfortable. The selection of food at the Mandarin Buffet is very good and everything was fresh and hot. I spent most of my time filling my plate at the sushi bar (included in the buffet fare), which was well stocked and much better than I expected for a buffet. This past Friday we had a hankering for a Chinese buffet, so we decided to stop in at this location. This isn't the first time we have eaten here, but this place has improved since we last stopped in. The restaurant itself has been updated and it was nice to have clean booths and clean bathrooms. The buffet itself is small, but it is well stocked with crawfish, crabs and other delicious items. The sushi here was also decent for a buffet. The staff here was incredible. I know this may sound crazy, but they were polite, they didn't rush us, and they thanked us once we had finished. Haven't had this type of service in a very long time. The music selection is a hodge podge of Asian, Hispanic and American etc. Food: The soup selection was a little weak as there was only hot and sour or some kind of vegetable soup. The sushi selection mostly revolved around using avocado, cucumber and imitation crab meat. There was only 1 type of fish sushi which I saw and was just tuna and cucumber. The seaweed wrapped bean curd was a bit too sweet. Desert wise, they have the big canisters of opened ice cream in windowed fridge with common scooper. SPOILER ALERT: THE OWNER CALLS THE COPS ON ME. We've been here a handful of times when we felt like gorging ourselves on decent sushi/banana pudding. Everything else is meh. Fine, I said, but I'm only paying the $11 that is posted on that same sign, and only for one of us since I don't do shrimp eyes. I'll have you know that he screamed at me that "everyone knows" that the price is $12.99 for dinner, and showed me another sign. I said that since it was posted where I originally saw it, I'm only paying $11. We disagreed, he told co-pilot that he wasn't a man and didn't have any b@lls (SERIOUSLY). I told him I wanted to pay the right price and get out of his literal stinking restaurant. He said he'd let the cops decide. I laughed. Three of Chelsea's finest were there within minutes. Grumps pushed past me to talk to one of the cops and I patiently waited until another one approached me. We calmly spoke and I explained the sitch. Officer started laughing. The other officer had a handful with Grumps as he was ignorant and argumentative. It boiled down to Grumps making a complete ass out of himself and the cops telling him to charge us the right price. One officer told him he should be ashamed and if he were the owner he'd have paid for our meal. As we triumphantly left, the officers agreed that this place was never worth coming back to and gave us a recommendation for a place in Everett. read more

For a city that seems to have endless amounts of Indian buffets, Boston is really lacking when it comes to all-you-can-eat Chinese. Enter Mandarin Buffet, which will hopefully be the first of many new Chinese buffets in the region! Sorry for the excitement, but I'm from rural Pennsylvania, where every strip mall has roughly a half dozen Chinese buffets (I'm barely exaggerating). You're not going to find 5-star food at Mandarin Buffet. Heck, it's probably more like 2-star cuisine. But does that really matter when you're staring a buffet selection that features everything from crab legs to chicken nuggets? They even serve alcohol, which was entirely unexpected (it's just cheap beer and wine, though, so don't expect top-shelf booze). The only downside to Mandarin Buffet is its Chelsea location, which is difficult to get to via public transportation. The food, however, was good compared to the average Chinese buffet. Sometimes there was a bit of food that was stale or too cold... but all you have to do is wait a few minutes for a heaping new tray of whatever to come and replace the old. The choices are plentiful, the prices aren't bad (around $12 for dinner), and even the sushi was a pleasant surprise. If you're a lavish foodie, you'd probably never admit to coming here...
