They skimp on ingredients: Egg rolls are filled with "filler" vs. cabbage and real shrimp, The fried rice is regular rice with bits of shrimp added, hardly any flavor. Just a rotten restaurant. The positive first. Best Won Ton soup I have ever had. The portions this restaurant serves are very generous. The not so positive. Absolutely the worst General Tso Chicken I have ever had. The Lo Mein left much to be desired, the shrimp that was served was so grossly overcooked, it was mush. It was all promptly tossed into the trash. The service,,,,, When I arrived to pick up my order, there was a young lady behind the counter on the phone. Within seconds, this guy shows up from out back and asks me if I am there to pick up. I told him yes and gave him my name. He told me that he did not have my order. He had two orders and mine was not one of them. When orders are placed on line, an order number is given. I presented this and was informed that this number was of no use. It meant nothing I was asked what was ordered, I didn't place the order. I was not sure. I was asked for a phone number. I provided the number of the phone that was used to place the order. This was wrong. I was then challenged by this guy as to which restaurant the order was placed at. FINALLY, the young lady, no longer on the phone, printed up an order and asked me if this was mine. The dollar amount was matched what I had, and yes, this was the order I was there to pick up. The guy from the back had gotten the name wrong. I will add that he is rude, unprofessional, a true know it all, as he could have never made this mistake, and should be fired on the spot as I would guess that his attitude does not set well with the general public. I ordered from here on May 2nd and again today May 14th, and both my fiance and I got sick after eating the food. I've ordered from this restaurant since we moved here in July of 2021, but these last two times we've gotten violent diarrhea and vomiting after eating the food. I don't know what happened to this place but we won't be returning again. It's a shame because their food used to be so good. Both times the only thing we ate in common was the chicken on a stick, and both times we got extremely sick. Please use caution when going here. I was hoping it was a fluke after the first time, but now I'm seriously concerned they gave us food poisoning. This is the only place we order from off of beyondmenu.com. After reading good reviews I decided to try it. The outside sure was disguising, because once inside it looks quite nice. I was seated and looked over the menu and ordered the Hunan shrimp. When it came out, it looked and smelled great. There were plenty vegetables, shrimp, and fried rice with it. The shrimp were jumbo (maybe even larger), which was surprising to me. I'm used to it being a little above popcorn size. The vegetables were nice and crunchy still, and the rice was not overly doused with soy sauce. Even the eggroll that came with it tasted very fresh and homemade, and the sauce that came with it (duck sauce maybe?) was great. I definitely recommend this place, and I will be coming back for more. read more

I am pleasantly surprised! Don't judge this book by it's cover, folks. I have a go-to Chinese place in northern Maryland, and I'm always disappointed when I go new places. This place, while not quite the same (I'm spoiled, what can I say), is a fantastic find in Southern MD. When I try new places, I want to try a variety of dishes, so I make sure that I'm not writing an eventual review on one dish that maybe happened to not be my favorite. This time, pretty much everything was a win! The hot and sour soup, which I usually am not a huge fan of anyways, was everything hot and sour soup should be. Well done! Crab Rangoon (called something else here) were good - fried just right, and well-filled, but they were just a little bit on the sweet side for me, and had just a little bit too much cream cheese in them - otherwise, very good! Szechuan string beans - not my favorite, and they didn't stay crisp. I was expecting beans without a real sauce that had szechuan seasonings on them instead. They were alright, but my expectations were set higher. Moo Shu Pork - very good! A little heavier on the cabbage than most I've seen, but very flavorful. Ask for some extra Hoisen sauce, though, if you get carryout! Chicken in Ginger sauce - fantastic. My favorite dish of all the things we ordered. Definitely a bit on the spicy side, but not overwhelmingly so. I highly recommend this! The service was great - everyone was friendly and helpful. And seriously - the inside is really nice - the outside looks mediocre at best, but they did a great job decorating, and have 3 separate dining spaces, depending on what you're looking for. The first area is where people generally wait for takeout, the middle area is for couples and smaller dining parties, and the back area is set for larger parties with tables to accommodate 6-10. Poor quality ingredients + Fake Squid + inauthentic Chow Mein+ skimpy portions + bad attitude = disaster. I have no idea why there are 3 and 5 star ratings of this place. Are we talking about the same place? Am I experiencing new management or are some of these fake reviews? As fake as some of the ingredients in the food? Ordered delivery from this here for the first time tonight. Big mistake. I ordered egg foo young, spicy squid and chow mien. I asked beforehand if the squid was imitation. Manager assured me it wasn't. It was not only fake, it didn't even look like or taste like squid. They gave me one measly pack of the noodles used in egg-drop soup for the crispy noodles that was supposed to accompany the chow mien, a very important part of the dish. No where near enough and the wrong type of noodles. Are we not supposed to know what to expect when we order Chinese food? Speaking of cutting corners the egg foo young gravy was around 1/2 a cup. Also not enough. This was the second time I received substandard food from them so I called the owner. His attitude: "I don't care" and "you're wrong". He argued with me and disputed my opinion. I'm glad he's right but it makes me wonder who the customer is if I was wrong. No apologies, no nothing. Save your time and money, this is not the Chinese Food you are looking for. read more

But I've been here once and gotten take out from here more times than I can count it's a humble little place on the side of the road, if you hadn't been told about it you probably wouldn't even know what you were missing out on. The interior is nice and it's a welcoming atmosphere but the food...oh the food. It's some of the best Chinese take out I've personally ever partaken in. It's always consistently good and the amount you pay for the portions you get is mind boggling. You will not leave here hungry I promise you that. Food poisoning CAUTION. I have lived here for about a year and a half now. This is the only place I get Chinese from, we usually order the same thing every time. However, sometime in the past few months, they have changed some thing with their pan fried dumplings. It is 1:30 in the morning and I am currently up with my five year old with food poisoning because of these dumplings. I know it's the dumplings because I don't eat dumplings, my husband and my son both love them. They taste great going down, but I'm always on the other side of the toilet with them when it comes back up. it's a shame because I really do like their food, after tonight, I will never order from them again. Why did I order them again? I honestly couldn't believe that my husband and son got food poisoning from this place last time. When my son asked for the dumplings again tonight, I knew better. Excellent very fresh food! Very unexpected. Do not be fooled by the appearance of this place. It kind of looks like a fortified brick building with a few very tiny rectangle windows. I had the Kung Pow Chicken (authentic). Wow what a difference from what it is like at other places. Most places drown it in brown sauce to make it taste better. This place gives you very good very fresh Kung Pow (spelling?) Chicken that does not need a sauce to flavor it up. Best I have had in I can not remember when. I plan to come back and try other dishes too. My son (25 yrs old) was with me and had the Lo Mein combination and said it was good, but it did not seem to be as good as what I had. Maybe he should have asked for Authentic? When I ordered the Kung Pow Chicken they asked me if I wanted the Authentic Kung Pow Chicken and I said yes. The food is good but it usually takes over a hour to get delivery. Today I ordered at 5:45 pm and its still not here af 8:05 pm. Worst experience we have ever had!! We decided to try them for the first time 2 weeks ago and ordered take out online. Over an hour later our food showed up...even though the site said about 45 minutes. My husband called to check on it too! We get our food and my husbands order was wrong...the sent an entirely different dish! My husband called them about it and they apologized and said they would have the manager call him. The next day the manager calls and offers him a "store credit" towards a future order. This past Sunday we decided to order from them again and use the credit. This time my husband went down there to order it in person. They charged us for everything we ordered but didn't give us the egg rolls, left out the rice in my dish, gave us 3 fortune cookies even though we are a family of 5...it was ridiculous! The food taste and service is nice, but I was very disappointed to find out items on the vegetarian menu are NOT vegetarian friendly. What a surprise!!!! I have lived near this place for ten years and never ventured in because it does not look like much from the outside. Wow, talk about not judging a book by its cover!! There are two other local Chinese food restaurants within 3 mile of this one, and they don't even come close!! I have eaten so many times at the other two because that was what I thought my choices had to entail. Well the other two will NEVER be frequented by me again as long as this place is around. My wife and I couldn't help but be stunned by the quality and taste of the food. We both agreed we had never had better or fresher tasting Chinese than Hot Pot. Really folks I can't say enough about how this restaurant is so good! They offer carry-out and I think delivery but really do yourself a favor and eat inside. It is nicely decorated and very clean inside. They obviously take great pride in their business and is really shines. The Wonton soup noodles were still firm and tasty not soggy and mushy like ever other place. The egg rolls are made to order in house by hand and served hot and fresh. The egg rolls have a unique and delicious flavor, nothing like the pre-made, pre-packaged egg rolls from most Chinese restaurants. My wife raved about how the chicken in her Lo Main was the most tender chicken she had ever eaten. My shrimp egg foo yung was served with a golden sauce instead of the brown gravy I have always had with egg foo yung. The sauce is delicious!! The egg foo yung had a flavor that was somehow "light" tasting and too good to be true. The fried rice.........perfection. Last but not least was the dessert. The waitress recommended the fried bananas and we agreed to sample them. OH MY GOD!!! I would never have thought frying a banana could be such a wonderful dessert. I was heavenly. The only thing was the wife felt it could benefit from a light sprinkle of powdered sugar, but while I agree that would kick up the sweetness a notch I was fine with the sweet but real sweet flavor. Please give this place a try and then post the results on here. I want this place to stay around a long time. Just wish I had tried it 10 years ago when we moved in down the street. This. Is. THE BEST Chinese takeout restaurant I've EVER been to. And sit-in dining is even better. The food is freshly cooked, and spicy mustard and chilled, house made duck sauce are brought to the table with fried wonton strips for sit-in (you can also request it with take out). So far, the only dish I've eaten here that I don't like is the curry chicken, it was very bland and not flavorful or spicy at all. But the beef with broccoli has addictive brown sauce, crisp broccoli, and the largest strips of meat I've seen served at a Chinese restaurant. All of the sautéed noodle dishes I've eaten have been cooked fresh, never over cooked. The egg rolls taste as if they're seasoned with 5 spice (which I love), and the first time I ordered crab puffs (or crab rangoon) here was the first time I've actually tasted the crab in the rangoon. And it's delicious! Then, my favorite, the wonton soup. The meat is well seasoned, large chunks, and the wontons are thick, large, and scrumptious (I wouldn't be surprised if they are house made, but if not, where are they buying those things???) and the broth is flavorful and warming. I love it. Heads up: portions feed at least two people, 3 if neither person is starving. The prices are very low and portions are dangerously huge. Obviously, I love this restaurant. read more

I order food from here at least once a week. Their lunch special options are generous (portions). This place is one of the better (my top 3) Chinese places in southern Maryland. My favorite dish is general Tso's tofu, the tofu is nice and crispy and is a good substitute when you just don't feel like eating meat. The speed of service has improved quite a bit. I can come in for lunch at 11:30 and be out of there before 12:30. They offer online ordering, dine in, as well as a few small tables for "order and eat" (if you just want to eat with no waiter service). I've never had bad service, I've always found the owner/waiters to be friendly and attentive. However, I do have to take away one star as there is one waitress who sometimes messes up my order or forgets to bring us things we've ordered, but it's never such an issue where I would not eat here again or recommend this place. Visited this newly reopened Chinese restaurant from curiosity as well as hunger. Had a lot of Chinese food over the years but this was superb. I can't fathom how they can put such excellent spices and fresh ingredients on the plate and remain small for long! Of course, I expect that in a few years they will expand and perhaps secure Michelin stars. Be careful arriving and departing as they are on Rte 5 (southbound) just beyond the intersection with Rte 6. If only the Pax River crowd would obey our modest speed limits in Mechanicsville, the restaurant would be easier to size up and visit. Locals know they can park from the secondary road that leads up to White Marsh. read more

We ordered pan fried noodles, because we didn't know what it would be. They were crispy-a bit like uncooked ramen, which was odd, but still tasty once the sauce soaked them through. Hmmmm. i am having a hard time figuring out why this place has such great reviews. Have these people just not had good Chinese food? Let me start by saying it wasn't horrible or anything but far from good.... let me explain, I got general tso chicken and the sauce they use tastes just like ketchup mixed with something else, it is also very pasty. I found two small bones in my chicken, (one resembling a chicken claw) I kid you not. I am sure it was just bone fragment but still it looked like a chicken claw. I also like my general tso to be a little crunchy on the outside, this very very soft and mushy. My girlfriend got Shrimp lo mien. This was also very dry and had no real flavor. The shrimp were pretty good and so were the spring rolls but that is about it. I tried it based on all the good reviews but i can safely say i will not be going back again. read more

I was a little apprehensive due to the outside appearance, but once I went inside I was pleasantly surprised to see that it truly is a family run restaurant. I only had wonton soup and fried rice and there was a bit of a wait, but I must say, the food was fantastic. Being from south Florida, I am accustomed to good Asian food and to be honest, was not expecting much from a MD Chinese restaurant.
