Not only was there a film of hot chili oil floating on the top, there was a handful of Thai chilis in the bottom helping to flavor the soup, along with anise, peppercorns, and several other spices. If you order the milder soup, there is a condiment bar so that you can add your own spice level. We ordered the Pork Belly and Brisket, with Bok Choy, Sweet potato, seaweed, Pork Meatballs and Rice Noodles. First, the decor in Hot Pot Hero is nice! They have many tables and a conveyor belt for veggies in the middle. However, if you like to order a lot, the tables might not seem big enough. If it's not too busy, they will place a side table next to your table to put extra dishes. Because I like a spicy hot pot, I ordered the spicy mushroom broth, which wasn't all that spicy to me. The sauce bar, which is located by the bar and close to the entrance, has a lot of staple sauces like sesame, peanut, hoisin, soy, and a house sauce, which I really liked. My closest friend and I went out for dinner. It was an amazing experience! I can't say many words to describe what they did for us last night. All I can say A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! The waiter uses gestures to communicate with us and showed us how it works with choosing food. These food and broths are absolutely delicious! They had an amazing lunch special of $20 a person all you can eat and have a great variety of food. They have a sauce bar up front that you can mix up some amazing flavors with. I have came here twice- one time for lunch where the service was unacceptable, a second time for dinner with a large party where the service was average. The quality of the food and meats is slightly above average some of the other hot pot areas in Moco. The first time I came was for lunch with 3 other friends. The restaurant seemed very clean and well decorated, sharing the other side of the store with Ben gong tea. The iPad used for ordering would frequently get timed out and required a passcode to re-enter. Many times, we were ignored by the server when telling them the iPad locked out and unable to order any items to put in the hotpot. The server said the code very quickly in Mandarin while walking away from us, but too fast for the two Chinese speakers to comprehend and our other two non Chinese guests did not understand. When coming a different time for dinner with the large group, the floor was extremely slippery, almost as if it was covered in oil or butter. There was no caution/slippery floor sign which can be dangerous for others. Dinner seemed to be better staffed and the servers were able to come by more often and were more helpful than when we had came by for lunch. I came here during an afternoon weekday and it was pretty empty. The restaurant is still in its soft-opening and the ambience of the restaurant is more of like a high-end hot pot. Everything is red and gold and very aesthetically pleasing. The meet selection here is to die for. The fatty brisket literally melts as soon as it hits the hot pot. The broth itself is okay, the tomato broth has more of a ketchupy after taste and not really like a real robust tomato. We were lucky to be seated next to the conveyor belt that was refrigerated and rotated various meatballs and vegetables. However, the options were very limited (only bok choy and lettuce at the time). The vegetable quality itself wasn't that great. The idea of the conveyor belt is nice, however it moves extremely slow..slower than the one at urban so if you have eye on something you need to wait a while before it gets to you. The food seemed fresh and tasted cleaner (especially the meat) compared to other hot pot restaurants I've been to. I liked that I could have two soups and share it with someone else. The second visit was during lunch hours, which wasn't the most pleasant experience. We kept getting food that we didn't order instead of what we ordered, and I felt like the food was of slightly lower quality than before. This place's quality has gone down a lot since I first started coming about a year ago. Flies all over the sauce bar. Had to swat flies at our table. Sauce selection used to be good. Now everything seems old and are just salt bombs. Like what happened to the sesame sauce? It's now looks and has the saltiness like dwengjang (salty fermented beans). The place is not air conditioned well. So hot before even getting our broth. I want to be cold and enjoy hot pot. Language barrier is rough especially when we are trying to ensure no allergens for my s.o. are included in the broth. Basa fish is gross and slimy. Clasms are not washed well or at all. Every bite was an unpleasant sandy crunch. Spinach is too big. Bok choy is too big. They don't have enoki?! When refilling water, the pitcher condition on the bottom dripped into my broth. I know its not a big deal but considering the bottom of that thing is being placed on dirty surfaces, ergh.. I spilled a good of broth on my legs. Like an embarrassing large amount. One of the servers was right there and saw and just walked away. Didn't offer any napkins so I just grabbed some from another table. Only thing I like about this place now is the decor. A fair competitor for all the hot pot establishments in the area. AYCE hot pot. Hot pot hero seems like a more traditional style of hot pot. The decor was very nice and the facility was clean. I went as a group of 10 and we had a long table together. They were able to accommodate large groups however it's a bit confusing ordering with large groups. It's not the iPad system so you have to mark your orders down on the menu so I felt like we missed some of our items. FOOD: They serve rice with the hot pot. The food was fresh and a very nice selection. I would say they have a larger selection of food compared to their competitors. Their meats were fresh! When you go for dinner, they have "premium" products that's only available at dinner time. My favorite is the duck palm and shrimp paste which isn't available elsewhere in the area. The ramen noodle is thinner so it doesn't soak up the soup as well. I like the vermicelli noodles more. I agree with some of the other reviewers that the lotus root need to be cut thinner. SOUP: there's an extra $8.99 charge for numbing spicy broth which seems a bit steep (it's pretty spicy). The regular hot pot hero spicy soup was comfortably spicy. It's less spicy than the usual medium spicy I get at other places. They refill soup with soup broth and not water but it seem to be the same refill broth for each soup. SERVICE: our server was very nice however we were growing impatient with our food in the beginning. They were bringing 1 plate of meat out at a time for our group of 10. We did get our items faster later on but the meats were still lacking. The sauce bar is good but crowded. We had to wait in line and they ran out of sauce bowls.
