Have you ever seen so much food in your life.
    Emily S.

Some friends suggested driving here from Arlington because it is such a good deal. They were right. I do not think you can beat it for value. The all you can eat model is so so nice. The sauce bar is also pretty clutch. Ambiance was fun, too. Service was a little matter of fact, but you order using a tablet at your table so getting more of exactly what you want is pretty efficient. I'd put it right in the middle for vegetarian-friendliness - it is a little limited compared to the carnivore experience but you can definitely still eat and be very satisfied. For non-vegetarians the variety of broth options is really impressive. Basically, just look at my pic to understand everything you need to know.

This is probably the best hotpot in the DMV!! Food is always served fresh and onto nice plates! Everything here is just good from the consistency to the quality + the dessert bar is such a good way to end the meal. Shoutout to Mama Amy and staff!!

You can get all you can eat hotpot or order dishes individually. There's a lot of drinks you can order as well. There's a fridge with ice cream and a dessert station where you can select the items to put in your bowl such as lychee jelly, grass jelly, other toppings, and brown sugar. The meat and seafood were fresh, such as octopus, calamari, and pork kidney. The appetizers were good as well such as the spicy beef stripes and spicy chicken (ko shui ji) that was juicy, fresh and soft.

2 different broths and an assortment of meat and veggies.

The service was amazing!! The tomato broth is a must for newbies!! The atmosphere was lovely. Amy, our server was personable and fast! She was attentive but not overbearing. This is a great place to try new foods and adventure a little bit. -Jacky and Jackson

I've been to many hot pot all around the DMV and this is by far the best one. Soup is great, food selection is the best and customer service is top quality. All of the staff members are genuinely nice, especially Amy. We live far away but Amy's wonderful customer service brings us back everytime.

Birthday celebration at Hot Pot Hero!

This spot is my favorite hotpot place in the MoCo area! You could never go wrong with any of the broths. There's most likely a wait during the winter time during dinner rush, but that just means that this place is worth the wait! Amy is great and always recognizes people who return and that made me feel special (especially since there are so many people who come to eat here!) and also gave me a dessert since it was my birthday! I really appreciate the small attention to care and service! Would 10/10 recommend, I've taken a lot of my friends and family here and they all agree that this might be their go to spot when they visit! - Mimi

My friends surprised me with a birthday celebration, and the wait staff was incredibly accommodating! They brought out a cute boombox playing birthday songs, lit the candle, and truly made me feel so special. Thank you, Amy, for such an amazing experience!

A solid hot pot place for AYCE for its price. Their spicy pot is great for spicy lovers and loved their meats, especially their premium beef and lamb. Service is attentive and it's a huge spot. Their bathroom is in the hallway to Ben Gong's.

Amazing hot pot and outstanding service. Amy was hands-down the best--friendly, attentive, and super helpful with recommendations. She made the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. Great food is a given here, but her service is what really stood out. Will definitely be back for Amy to be our server!

AMY IS THE BEST SERVER EVER!!! Great spot to eat and the food was cooked by us at the table. Very friendly staff and very informative when it's your first time coming in. We were clear on how to order. It was great. We did the upgraded dinner so we could get the premium meat choices. We did the family pot so it was two pots in one versus the individual pot. I had the herbal broth, he had the mild spicy broth. We ordered a variety of items to put in it but the main thing was ribeye, lamb, chicken. It was DELICIOUS and we left full!!! The peach Moscato was good. Don't forget dessert!!! Ask for Amy because we won't eat unless Amy is our server!!

    Do they serve alcohol?

We did not look for alcohol from their menu. We brought a bottle of red wine from home for the meal and they charged us a cork fee of $15. They brought out wine glasses for us to enjoy our bottle of wine.

Do they take reservations for dinner?

    Unfortunately no.

Is the spicy soup beef based?

Some of the soup's base is spicy( spicy hero pot and spicy assorted mushrooms pot) but the other soup base is not spicy. You can have the tomato soup base and Thai Tom yum and seafood pot base are good. I hope I answer your question.

What's the cost for lunch? Dinner? Weekends? Holidays?

The buffet style is ~$30 per person, same price for lunch & dinner (though a few more options are available @ dinner time so I recommend going then). It's definitely a treat yourself kinda meal & not one for every week, but it is absolutely…

Is it safe for people have food allergies (peanuts, tree nuts and shellfish) to eat at this Restrauant?

Most of the food is raw, there is plenty of shellfish so there could be cross contamination.

Do you have heaters at the outdoor dining?

I don't think I saw any when I was there

Do u have a table of 6 people?

Yes they absolutely do. And tables for larger groups like 8 or 10.

Do they still have All You Can Eat hotpot menu?

    Yes!

    Gm...Is there outdoor seating?

    Yes. They have outdoor seating

Do you have a vegan broth?

    Yes. Herbal and tomato flavor

Can reservations be made for lunch time hours?

    You can call ahead

Is lunch price available on weekends?

Unfortunately, it's all day weekend price

Are their brothers pork based ? Or are there some chicken based or vegetarian based

    It’s beef and chicken based

Is it open on Thanksgiving night?

yes we do until 9:30 pm on that day

Is this restaurant safe for those with Celiac Disease?

The place do carry gluten products in the form of noodles. If you avoid all carbs and just get the veggies & protein (meat & seafood) along with a separate hot pot (if possible) for yourself, you should be OK.

You have to order via a QR code on your phone, which I don't like and it was confusing. Not to mention, the waitress didn't explain the process as she should have, especially knowing it was our first time there and we had to call her over several times. We thought this was a typical Korean BBQ/hot pot place ... it's not. We frequent many of the AYCE restaurants in the area. This was nothing like the others. You don't cook the food on the grill yourself, they cook it in the back for you. Usually we get several different cuts of beef/pork/chicken. We ordered beef/chicken and pork skewers. They were tiny and we didn't love the dry seasoning they used. The fried pork was listed as an additional charge, so we didn't get it. We feel like there weren't enough meat options (for grilling in the back), seemed like a lot of seafood or exotic selections. So we were stuck eating stuff like chicken nuggets and the hot pot (which we usually enjoy just as a side option in addition to our grilled meats. They also forgot our two rice orders. I felt like the Hot Pot was too big and needed more flavor. We tried the plain chicken broth and the spicy beef chili oil (it was spicy but not flavorful). They brought out a ton of rolled meats but seemed like not enough sides. In essence, we spent $100 (including tip) on freaking Hot Pot. Disappointed and won't be coming back here.

The inside had a lot more tables than I thought and the space was bigger than I thought. If i'm being honest, I first chose this place due to the conveyor belt, robot, and $20 lunch price point. Unfortunately, I only kind of got one of those. To my shock, the price increased to $25 for lunch and the conveyor belt was no longer working. I was honestly most excited about the conveyor belt. I saw some reviews that said due to covid they stopped it but if you ordered things, it was sent that way. Unfortunately I think the conveyor belt hasn't been in use for a while because they had decor and everything on it. They did have to robot but it only delivered drink and desserts sometimes. There were even times the robot was on its way to deliver something and the waiter stopped it in the middle of the walkway and deliver the item himself. I wouldn't say the experience was bad but I think it was subpar. Although I did like that the tables give you individual pots because I've been to some places where six people have to share one pot in the middle and it's chaos because you have to reach over people so the individual pot was great. In terms of the actual food it was not bad. The server was actually nice and brought us angus beef which was a dinner item, although we were there for lunch. I mad a great sauce from the sauce bar. I loved the appetizers they had. The fried rice and noodles were exactly how I love it. The fried rice was how i'd have it growing it. All and all loved it and will probably go back at some point. Parking was a little of a hassle so I would keep that in mind. Even during lunch it was hard to find adequate street parking.

Everything was good except for one thing, which I think is pretty important and influences my final score. When we arrived, I told the server we were new to hot pot and we wanted to try two broths. He showed us the iPad ordering device and told me that we should order a half and half pot for $1 extra to get two broths. So, I ordered a half and half pot, and then ordered a variety of meats and fish. We went up to get veggies, which were all being stored at a good cold temp and all looked good. Then a single SMALL pot (they have two sizes of hot pot) was delivered to our table, half one broth and half the other. As I put some of the ingredients in (we were feeding two people), the hot/spicy broth spilled over to the other (tom yum) broth, and essentially turned the whole meal into a spicy broth meal. We got no taste of the tom yum. As we ended the meal, I noticed that other couples had two different pots. We essentially were cramming food for two people into a single pot (and it was one of the small pots, not one of the big ones). As we went to pay the check, I asked the server if we should have gotten two individual pots, each with a different broth. He said "oh yes. I should have told you that." What??!!? So, we basically spent well almost $90 (including tip) for a single small pot of spicy broth mixed with other broth, and having to spend the time minimizing the transfer of broths from one side to the other by minimizing the amount of food we put into the small pot. Yes, I'm ticked off (and I don't tick off easily). The meal would have been very good, but I feel like we got taken advantage of and the server, when he saw us struggling to keep the broths separate and knew he should have been served two pots, didn't say a word, apologize, or offer us any discounts. I reached out twice to the restaurant through Yelp, but heard nothing back. Again, the meats looked good, the veggies looked good, the sauce station was a nice addition. But everything was crammed into a small pot that tasted the same. And they charged us an extra dollar for the privilege! Ugh. I'm really disappointed - and ticked off.

We explained that this was our first time here and we said we would have the lunch hotpot/bbq. That was basically the last time we saw our server. He didn't tell us about the appetizer bar, which I fortunately knew about from the web site. We ordered on the iPad and the food came remarkably quickly, delivered by kitchen personnel. At another KPot, the dishes for hot pot and bbq are different colors, and here they don't do that - so we had to remember which mushrooms, meats and vegis we ordered for hot pot and which for bbq. The appetizer bar in the back has a variety of apps (kimchi, pickled veggies, noodles), some fruit and a variety of sauces. As I said, the food came quickly and was quite good. We enjoyed everything except for the spicy fish (for the bbq). Neither one of us liked the spicy flavor - it wasn't too spicy, just didn't like it. The chicken and beef bulgogis were good and the veggies were good grilled and in the pot. The place is nice and there's a sizable bar. Although a number of workers appeared to be working conscientiously, we got terrible service. Our particular server never came to the table to check on us even though he was walking around. He spent much of the meal sitting at the bar. We had to ask twice to have our water glasses filled by other Staff. Our server never came by to change out the grill top, which I've never experienced before. I actually thought about asking for a different server. The food and ambience are good. Because of our service situation (which was really disappointing), I'm struggling with giving the restaurant 4 stars (I would have given 5 with good service). This type of meal depends on good, caring service that we've gotten at other hot pot/bbq places in the area. Because of this disappointment, I don't expect I'll be back here again.

Out front there's something that looks like a tuk-tuk or rickshaw. Tbh, don't know if it's theirs or the business next door. The restaurant itself is clean and elegant. Also, not as loud as some Korean BBQs (thinking of KPOT off of Randolph Rd), which is important if you don't like being overwhelmed by everyone else's noise. That is one big '+' in Kanpai's favor. The waiter was cool and very helpful. Because of him I now know what the thin meat slices are meant for (which is for the soup), before then I had no clue. The food itself is good. Like, why wouldn't it be? I actually prefer the shabu-shabu (soup), makes me wish I knew how to do that myself so I wouldn't have to go out as much. Yes, the grill meats were great, as was the kimchi. These places are not cheap, but it was enjoyable while I was there. If you're not in a rush you can go a few doors down afterward to an import store selling everything from K-chips to puzzle-kits. So I would say...take your time. But don't warm your seats for more than 90 minutes, as Korean BBQs tend to kick people out (nicely, nicely) if one overstays. P.S. I'm sure they have some great drinks there, but even if I wanted to I couldn't loiter. That's what Bethesda is for. (Or at least how it used to be.)
