A saving grace after a full day of skiing! We did a half pot spicy & a half pot savory pork. The sauce bar has so many options, went to peanuts and sesame paste, lots of garlic, scallions, chili oil. Lets get started. Hot pot! Delicious, 100%, I got the spicy soup and it was good but really more of a face full of Chili than anything. I ordered it Medium, because there was no choice for mild. The end result was me having to make a sweet sauce to tame the heat from the overwhelming amount of chili. My girlfriend was happy with her Bone broth. In her words, it didn't taste like anything but it wasn't bad. My friend's opinion of his broth was it needed more flavor, it was bland. It needed a significant amount of seasoning. On to the Vegetables. Good quality product, wood ears were satisfying, my favorite was the lotus root (always is!) The rest of the mushrooms were also quite nice. Now, what you're really here for, meat! Actually I hate to disappoint but the meat was sub par. There was little to no distinct taste difference between the beef, pork and chicken. The only ones you could clearly discern were Lamb, Pork Intestine, and Pork kidney. The fish was good, fresh octopus was quite satisfying however the fish balls were frozen, didn't really taste fantastic so its a hit or miss. Service-wise it was one of few meals I've ever had where I was disappointed by the server. Some were nice, some were eh. My biggest complaint about it is that we didn't ask for the check, and were presented with it. The server also didn't speak English terribly well, which normally I don't mind but she didn't know what dessert was. So, that's my review. Food was good, service was eh. 3 of 5. So first let's talk about the quality of the meat, as you can see in the picture thinly sliced meat with such a vibrant color which indicate freshness and high quality meat. Comparing to the recent bad experience that I had at the hot pot city, meat quality at hot pot city has deteriorated significantly recently. Secondly, the base of the hot pot is so authentic and flavorful. It's better than the base of urban hot pot. It's better than both hot pot city and urban hot pot. This is a long overdue review but I've always loved my visit here and Amy is always super attentive. There was a point in time where my friends and family said I was a regular here. However, I visited recently with my partner and the food is still the best as ever. So...I don't know if it was just an off day or something but the main thing that stood out during my dining experience here was that there were flies/gnats flying around the sauce bar/stand area. Like...I have nothing else to say about this place that's memorable. That's to say the food itself wasn't bad but at the same time wasn't anything amazing or special either. The options were generally nice, but some of the better options were locked behind a pricier menu. By comparison other places have those same options under a single lower priced menu. It's also connected to Ben Gong, which I also find to be kinda crummy. As soon as you walk in, you get hit with the smell of the flavorful boiling broth with an amazing ambiance , it's like you're getting transported into a different world. We were at DC for a visit last week. My friends took me and my daughter to their go to hot pot place, Hot Pot Hero. We were not disappointed. Food was fresh and lots of variety. Staff were very friendly. My 10 year old daughter enjoys the dessert station. I love the mushroom soup and well cut and presented meat. I will definitely come back when in DC. One of my favorite hot pot spots in MoCo! Hot Pot Hero reminds me of the hot pot I grew up with in China and California. It was very authentic and felt like home for me. The decor and ambiance is nice! Chinese and modern. It's an AYCE set up where you can order everything you want through a tablet. The servers bring it out on carts. If you want to order BenGong drinks, a cute "cat" robot server will deliver it enthusiastically to your table. You then touch it's face to complete your order. So fun! The service was great and the food comes out fairly quick. Upon being seated, you will be asked whether you want a shared pot, individual or both. They have specific tables set up for each preference. They have a good amount of broth options and include a couple vegan options. They also have a good selection of ingredients to choose from. I love that they had fish balls with meat inside, shrimp paste and rice cakes which many other establishments in the area don't offer. The pots are safely secured inside the table versus on the tabletop. It helps create more space for ingredients and makes it much easier to navigate. Prices are reasonable for ACYE and for the quality of the ingredients. If you don't eat a lot, you may be better off somewhere that offers al la carte options versus all-you-can-eat. But otherwise, it's a great deal! Definitely a great space to bring friends and family or to celebrate a special occasion! read more

No wait at all when I came on a weekday night, the store was very empty actually :( We got the split broth, one mala spicy broth and one pork. The way it works is you have 3 rounds of AYCE, so you have to plan strategically to make sure you get everything you want by the 3rd round but not overload yourself and end up with wasted food. The selection for dinner is pretty good, lots of seafood and meat options! My favorites were the mussels and fish balls, but overall pretty standard quality hot pot items. However, 3 stars bc they kept giving us the wrong items and leaving out the items we actually ordered :( So had to ask them multiple times before getting what we ordered. The sauce bar had a lot of choices, but they didn't seem to be refilling the stuff that ran out (like there were only small crumbs of cilantro and green onion left the whole time). read more

Wonderful place! We were looking for a place to have a private little celebration date together, my wife and I, and stumbled on the Hot Pot. We had our own very private little booth, with our own little fondue stove. We ordered the small cheese fondue plus salads and found we were completely full when we were done. We dined in for dinner. Parking: street parking, however there is a parking lot near by. The restaurant is at the corner. Menu: limited selection compared to other hot pot places I've been to. But it had the 3 main types of meat I normally get. But I would like to see more of an extensive meat selection. Seafood selection and vegetable selection wasn't impressive. $26.99 per person for hot pot Service: This is where all the stars were lost. We first ordered 2 beers. Which never came. After 30 minutes, I inquired about it from our waiter and he stated "sorry we don't have beers". Why didn't you tell us that when we had order them? He stated because of COVID, they don't have any. Okay that's fine. At least tell us that or mark that statement on your menu. Don't let us order it and then not say anything at all. I ordered a seafood broth which apparently is supposedly "spicy". They gave me herbal broth and then tell me it was seafood. I'm pretty sure I know the difference as there was no seafood in my broth and a dried Jujube in it. I brought it to their attention. & they offered to switch it and bring out the seafood broth. Which in turn was the same broth flavor, they just tossed in fake crab meat and called it seafood broth. There was not a single piece of "seafood" in there. Maybe I had to imagine it, I don't know. We then tried to order a second round of food. Which by the way, the waiter never came by to take it. So we had to approach him instead. And again, the food never came out. Eventually we just gave up on this place and requested for the check. You got it! He never came by to even ask if we were good, so of course, I had to get up again to look for him to request for the check. Oh, let me mention that they had no sauce except for some soy paste. The soy sauce was hidden and you had to request for it, but that's the only sauce they had to offer. I understand that it's COVID but I have been to other hot pot places since and they had everything and service was so much better! The restaurant had 4 tables that they were serving and 2 waiters but couldn't manage to bring out cold, uncooked food in a timely manner. Will I give this place another try? Absolutely not. The menu was not worth $27 per person. And the service was the worst I have ever experienced. read more

We had a big group planned and they kept changing tables on us because there wasn't an available table to accommodate for our big group (they seemed to have limited seating). Eventually my group decided to all share one pot since we all wanted to have the same broth. We placed an order on the iPad however it took a long time for them to bring out our items that we spent more time waiting than actually cooking. Also, they never really checked up on our table and we were left with no refills on our drinks. Food was decent. I love this Hot Pot Hero! It is my favorite hot pot place in Montgomery and Howard counties. I grew up eating hot pot in Asia, and this Hot Pot Hero has very authentic dishes and ingredients from "home" while having soup bases and ingredients that are more Americanized. The customer service is great here. Food are delivered FAST, and the staff is friendly and attentive.I must specify that this only applies to the Hot Pot Hero Gaithersburg/Germantown location. I used to go to the Hot Pot Hero in Ellicott City but eventually just couldn't deal with their poor customer service and unfresh food anymore after two years. The rude staff at the Ellicott City location was the last straw why I never returned. The Gaithersburg location is fantastic and I'd happily drive an hour to eat there! We got the Seafood Boil, all in all it was good, just felt that we weren't giving enough snow crab legs or king crab leg. I requested for 2 clusters of snow crab legs and it seem that only one was giving. We got 4 king crab legs and I order a pound, who knows it that is consider a pound but didn't feel we received a pound. The calamari was not good at all, it was bland and just not good. The fries were soft and we had to reheat them to make them firmer. Our 3 stars is based on not having all the crab legs and the calamari being bad and the fries being soft. I gave zero on its service, as politeness and respect were missing here! Though I ever heard a lot of others complaining its service, I did not feel it was a big problem until I visited. We spent a little bit more than 2 hours for dinner. An older waitress, who came with a scornful look, was extremely unfriendly and showed none of respect to drive us away. She was even so rude and straight, rebuking us for staying too long and taking away our food immediately. Such a ridiculous experience! We were there for food, not for your ugliness and savagery! If you just allow a limited window for dining, you should declare in advance and make sure customers are aware and accept! And for whatever reasons, you should never treat your customers without courtesy. This is the basics to do business, right? Regardless of its horrible service, the food was also far below average. Vegetables were ok, but some of the meat were not fresh and not well treated/preprocessed, it was not that obvious to taste, due to spiciness. Our group of folks had diarrhea the next day.
