I first walk past Hot Space a few weeks ago and have been interested in the place since. I was in the mood for some Sichuan food so decided to come here! I came in around 5:30 pm and I was able to be seated right away. They had several fish options and I asked the server for a fish that didn't have a lot of bones and they recommended the striped bass. I had the bass with the tomato and spicy tofu pudding broth. Out of the two, I definitely liked the tomato more! I also had the seafood instant noodle as well.
The only place I'll visit to eat grilled fish, they know what they're doing. I usually get one 2lb fish (I forget which one I always ask for whichever one has less bones lol). I usually go for the spicy flavor but have tried their pickled pepper both of which are good. They have non spicy too if you can't take heat. For toppings I just get the golden combination. This is usually enough for 2 ppl, especially with rice. I do like their roasted in shell oysters, they're large and fresh! The space feels hip and young, has sort of a bar vibe. Theres usually some Chinese music video playing on the large screen downstairs and upstairs. A bit steam punk with the hardwares and chain decors. It would be fantastic if they had draft beer here but unfortunately only bottled. Thats why it's 4 stars for me not 5. The type of food here pairs so well with beer!
Every time I come here to Hot Space Grilled Fish, I leave with a smile! The service is amazing but more importantly I come here for the spicy crawfish, which is so delicious that I have to take some to-go with me. The sauce is so good, it has just the right amount of spice and complexity in different levels. The crawfish is seasonal so there are plenty of other seafood and great appetizers too. They provide plastic gloves and bibs to keep the food off of your clothes when you are cracking claws and chowing down. I wish we had some places like this in Maryland so I don't have to drive so far for a taste. For now, I will be taking at least two trays back home for the ride!
A party of 5 and myself enjoyed a food crawl in Flushing yesterday. Our first stop was Hot Space where we had our main meal. The ambiance was pleasant. The service was excellent. The price was reasonable. Because we ordered a certain amount, we received complimentary sparkling peach water served in a tower dispenser. The main dish was grilled sea bass. You pick your own add-ons. We added enoki mushrooms, tofu, rice cake, noodles, and other veggies. I thought the fish was ok but a little bland. Other dishes included fish tofu, cold tofu with 100 year old egg which was yummy, and eggplant with garlic sauce which was not. To top it off, we received an unexpected complimentary jelly dessert. I would have to give this restaurant an "A" for effort, but the food quality just didn't have that "Wow" factor. Overall, I'll give this eatery a "not bad" 4 stars. One of these days I may even go back and try other dishes. See my next review for our next stop.
I been wanting to try here for so long since they also had a location in Brooklyn. The inside ambiance was joyous, packed with people on a weekend afternoon. Everything was ordered through their iPad. Their Sichuan cold chicken can have one salivating. I enjoyed it more than their cold Duck. which didn't have much meat. For the main dish, we choose a fish, followed by the flavor. We opted for 2 flavors, so we got to try both the spicy and the garlic. Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of this grilled fish cuisine style, as the given fish doesn't do a good job in absorbing all the encompassing flavor. Hot Space also charge for toppings, but they barely give enough to share. I love that they hand out free desserts at the end, a jasmine tea type herbal jelly in particular.
Love, Love this place! On a recent visit to Flushing, my wife and I took our friends there for Chongqing Spicy Fish and we were not disappointed! We had a great experience in their Edison, NJ location in 2022, and this one was also excellent. We ordered the spicy fish - we chose firm because we did not want fish to disintegrate too much - with tofu, asparagus lettuce, lotus roots, etc. as vegetables , and got a cucumber w/ soy sauce app & a sharable drink of Kumquat Lemon Iced Tea, all on their handy tablet. We were busy enjoying their signature dried nuts and the cucumber arrived quickly. It's slightly spicy but also crunchy and sweet - a refreshing way to get your mouth watering. Fish came pretty quickly and we did not have to wait long to dig in. Our "firm" fish was flaky and nicely held together while delivering full might of Chongqing spicy sauce in every bite. Four of us had plenty to eat, along with all the veggies. I especially recommend the asparagus lettuce which gives you crunch, right amount of sauce-absorption ratio, and bite feel, and the Fuzhu, the dried beancurd that acts as sauce retainer. While there is heat and numbing effect from the chili and the peppercorns, it was not too spicy to eat, even for our one Caucasian companion (but, he's married to Chinese woman and pretty trained in spice) and the kumquat iced tea definitely helps cleanse/cool your palate as needed! They also bring you this milky grass jelly drink for dessert, which my friend absolutely loved, and we finished our meal with bellies content & full. You can't go wrong with Hot Space spicy fish - take your village there! Highly Recommended.
Absolutely love this place! They serve fish that's simmered slowly over a shallow dish. I love that you can also get a garlic option which is not spicy but extremely flavorful. Some of the flavors come with its own ingredients such as tofu and seaweed. The fish is cooked perfectly and stays nice and hot, so you won't be able to stop eating. You can also order additional side dishes such as tripe and tofu with century egg. Their skewers are incredible, delicious seasoning and a little kick to it too. The portions are quite large for the fish so it's definitely a shareable experience. You can also get a free tower of their house made juices if you spend over $120. I highly recommend their yuzu cocktail mix.
Visited on sundat evening. You can get into waiting line via minitable. Easily found on their website or google map. Wait time varies. I was placed 18th. Took about 45 minutes but this can be longer. There is a small waiting bench where you can wait in case you arrive early. Parking- there are plenty of paid garage. There are plenty of street parking but always full. Don't violate traffic laws. There are many traffic cops. You will be ticketed in less than 15 minutes ( happened to me) Inside of the restaurant is very clean. Some chair cushions are destroyed but they usually give you a seperate cushion mat They will put your coat or belongings in a large plastic bag, so they dont soak up the smell. They give you a plate of nuts as a starter. Beef stick - well cooked. It tastes really good. Tastes like actuall fire bbq. They bring it in plate and take the meats out for you Big mouth bass- very soft. Crispy skin. I had hot soft tofu flavor. Its pretty spicy. It comes with soft food. I chose 4 add-on package - enoki mushroom, loot, seaweed knot, potato and kelp. And cabbage. This was more than enough for 2 people. The waitress mentioned that too much add on won't fit on the grill. Ask when you order. I definitely recommend this fish and flavor. Everyone was very nice and polite! Recommended!!
we ordered the big mouth bass with spicy tofu pudding flavor, with the golden combo (enoki mushrooms, kelp, potato, lotus root) and spam as toppings, and rice. this was wayyy too much food for 2 people but it was seriously delicious! the flavoring of the sauce was so addictive. the fish was very mild, which was a good thing considering how intense the sauce tasted. in retrospect we should've shelled out the extra $10 to add another flavor like garlic, but it was still really delicious. ambiance here is nothing to write home about, but service here is very friendly and efficient. the meal starts with some free mixed nuts and ends with free dessert. servers were really good about refilling our drinks and checking in on us. recommended.

Just had dinner here! Was quickly seated and the concept of the place is like you choose your own fish, toppings, flavoring. I ordered the barramundi fish, spicy garlic flavoring, mung bean noodles, enoki mushrooms. I also love how there's barbecue options liek the skewer ones. I had chicken wings and the spicy cucumber salad. Everything was super good very savory and delicious. I recommend you try it! The service was amazing i was helped a lot. read more

Definitely the go to place in NYC if you want to try grilled fish. Frogs are also good. Overall the food is not over-priced. The environment might not be as good as some Chinese restaurants but it has the vibe of restaurant-karaoke fusion which is not common to see in China. Pretty popular in a weekend evening. read more

I came to this restaurant in Flushing Prince St. for many years. Today I came to this restaurant with a small dog less than 10 pounds in a pet carrier. The girl with glasses came to ask for a pet ID in a rude manner when I said I only had the vaccinations for the dog. They continually ignored me and told us to leave immediately. read more

WOW!! I was very impressed by this restaurant. I have tried frogs at other places in NYC but was never impressed since the frogs I've had before always had very little meat and were difficult to eat (lots of bones). The bullfrogs here are huge and very meaty. I was shocked when they brought out the huge pot of frogs and every piece of frog meat was comparable to a chicken drumstick or wing! There was lots of meat on these frogs and they were perfectly cooked. Super juicy and delicious. I love the spicy flavor! They also had really good BBQ skewers and free sparkling water (I had mango flavor). The portions were generous and my girlfriend and I had enough leftovers to last us for the next day's meals too. Highly recommend this spot if you are a fan of spicy food or frogs! AND if you think you don't like frogs, please try this spot before deciding because I thought I wasn't a frog fan until I tried this restaurant. This restaurant is dine-in only (no takeout) and was pretty busy so I'd recommend going during non-prime times to minimize any waits. read more

I went here since they first open, I see how they grow and get better and better. If my friend ask me where is good place to go for bbq fish, no doubt is here. The flavor is good as always, they have more options now. Service is very thoughtful and friendly. That's another reason why I like to keep coming back. For food, I will recommend to get sea bass fish. Less bones and soft meat , we just order too much food. But it was really tasty. Love it. See you soon! read more

Ambiance: Hot Space is small and has a Yelp waitlist which comes in handy. We arrived just after the 12pm opening on a Saturday and had no wait time, but very quickly the restaurant filled up. This was definitely not a hole-in-the-wall, but it felt like a trendy and authentic Chinese place with pan-Asian music videos being projected on the back wall. Ordering: You mark your selections on a paper menu: a protein, flavor, and toppings (i.e. veggies, noodles). The staff was mindful enough to warn us when we arrived, that the frog was unavailable that day - worked for us because that's not what we were looking to eat. Note: normally toppings cost $3 each, and there is a four-topping "golden combination that costs $11, but our waitress allowed substitutions!!! We saved $1, score. Appetizer: They bring out a nut platter which is actually amazing. There are peanuts, broad beans, and some sort of seed. Refills available upon request. Main: We picked striped bass with spicy garlic flavor, and four toppings (Chinese cabbage, mung bean noodle, potato, soft tofu). The spicy garlic was very well seasoned, I'm not sure why some reviewers say the flavor is bland. We also ordered two cups of rice ($1 each). The bass tasted like it has been fried first then braised in the sauce, so it was flavorful. There are LOTS of bones in the fish so beware, although the Asian customers like myself don't mind fishbones. The mung bean noodles are these wide glass noodles with a somewhat chewy texture and I thought they were delicious. Dessert: They bring out bowls of milk jelly soup for everyone after the meal which I wasn't aware was included and thought this was a beautiful touch after the salty main. Normally I'm picky with my Chinese dessert soups but this was excellent. Overall this was a solid Sichuan fish casserole experience with nothing but outstanding service. My table was Vietnamese and obvs don't speak a lick of Chinese, but I did not mind that the staff tried to speak Chinese with us first, and were quick to switch to English. IMO this shows how the restaurant is very authentic yet will adapt to non-Chinese customers in a pinch, and I felt comfortable asking them questions. read more

The staff members there are super nice!!!!! One of the best service for a Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. I have been there for twice. The first time we came there, it's almost midnight. But they still took care of us as well as normal time. Explained the menus patiently, effective check-back during the meal, free appetizer and dessert. I love their grilled fish or grilled frogs pot. Suggestions: Frogs need to be cooked longer than the fish to absorb the spicy soup. If you can't handle spicy food very well, get the lowest spicy level. That will be enough for you. read more

Staff helped us out in terms of ordering because there were several parts to the process, somewhat similar to hot pot. You pick types of fish, vegetables, sauce. I think we ordered the buffalo fish as per the servers recommendation. He said this fish had lots of bones but was very flavorful. He was certainly right. I don't mind bones as an immigrant because outside of America most fish come with bones. The whole fish cost $49.95. Then $2.5 per vegetable, which I think we got the mushrooms and cabbage. So about $54.95 total for 3 people. Which is about $18.32 per person. That's not bad for a whole fish. If you have ever ordered a whole fish in Manhattan then you know how expensive those get. I don't recall which sauce we chose but it was spicy and I liked it. We were super full. The inside is funky. Has a huge karaoke screen. The server was very nice and helpful. We got the sea bass with a double flavor pot! Specifically we got the spicy tofu pudding ( it's actually spicy) It definitely hit the spot, I personally don't eat fish with bones, but this was totally manageable and no surprised bones! So delish! My only complaint is that the potatoes were not soft enough, but that's a personal preference ( I like really soft potatoes) read more

Great taste. Amazing service. I got the big mouth bass. Came with some beef, mushrooms, cauliflower, cucumbers and great spice! Also order some crawfish. All in all a great experience. I must say we were really impressed with the services, the staffs were super accommodating! We ordered the grill barramundi the texture of the fish was very soft and a bit spicy as well, very flavorful! we also ordered the slide beef and ox tongue in chill sauce(夫妻肺片) as appetizer it was wonderful!! Will return to try a different fish next time for sure. Highly recommended!!!!! read more
Overall: Funky and fun vibes in this modern/ digital spot. When you walk in, you can see a large screen playing music videos ready for a karaoke experience. Staff is very friendly and will ask you if you've been there before as ordering is a little confusing initially. Ambiance: modern karaoke vibes as mentioned above. Food: There is a menu where you can pick fish, vegetables, sauce. honestly I can't tell you what exactly I wondered as we mainly took recommendations from staff. We picked the 2.5 lb fish... Very spicy with many bones ( which they warned us about) but I loved it!!!! One fish fed 3 people and was very satisfying!!! Appetizer plates with dried goodies are included- pictured below ( sweet peanuts, watermelon seeds, and another nut? This grilled fish tastes like the one I ate in China before. It is delicious. You can pay 55$ for the fish which has only 10 small bones inside. Also one fish for two flavors brings two different options for multiple-preference friends! read more

I have always visited Hot Space in the past and after it reopen the flavor and service was as always fantastic. There were mistake with our orders but because of their great serves and delicious food I would still give it 5 out of 5. Also highly recommend their crawfish dish if available. Hope they their food and service stay the same as long as possible. 5 star recommendation. (Just when there again and just wanted to also add from time to time they will have promotion like free drink (currently) or add extra lb of crawfish in the past if I'm not mistaken but of course these are with limit of over certain amount of spending. Most I believe will go over that amount easily, like me. read more

Great place for grilled fish! They have so many different flavors to choose from for the fish. My husband and I usually order a fish with the classic spicy tofu flavor, and add four choices of veggies. The portion is huge and we end up eating too much every time. It's so worth it though! The service is one of the best we had in flushing. They are friendly, attentive and kind. Oh! Free dessert too! It's a small bowl of milk tea with herbal jelly. I love it! HOT SPACE GRILLED FISH! A hot displacement of Sentosa, which used to occupy this address. Hot Space is a good spot for a small group to share a meal. The concept: giant chafing trays of Szechuan-style "stews," brought to a simmer right at your table. Each dish feeds 3-4 people and runs $50-60. You choose the protein, the flavor/sauce, and the add-ons. Proteins are mostly fish, but there was at least one vegetarian-friendly option. Each flavor/sauce has spiciness level indicated. $2.50 for each add-on (tofu, greens, mushrooms, etc.), or choose any 4 for $8. $1 per bowl of rice. Mark your selections on the menu yourself. We chose: a) barramundi (their softest fish and the one with the least pinbones), b) in "spicy hot grilled fish tofu pudding" flavor, which just means silken tofu is included, c) with add-ons: asparagus lettuce, woodear mushroom, konnyaku, and napa cabbage. The "spicy hot grilled fish tofu pudding" is designated their spiciest flavor, with 2 little chili icons. But our server ranked it 5-6 on a scale of 1-10. That was spot-on: it really was not spicy, in either the 麻 (numbing spice) or the 辣 (capsaicin spice) department. Service was attentive, with 3 servers separately asking us how things were, explaining menu options, etc. When we asked them to leave the chafing fuel lit so our food stayed hot, they explained that they didn't want the fish to overcook, but still entertained our preferences. One server took us through the rigmarole of choosing our "free" fruit juice, served in a beer tower. Only when he asked for our WeChat did we realize this was a promotion they were doing for WeChat users only. I'm not a 20-year-old Chinese person, so no WeChat and no mango juice for us. Is the food tastier here than other Szechuan restaurants (most of which serve pots of fish cooked in fiery chili broth)? No... but it DOES look cooler on a giant tray taking up all the table space, and the fish IS generous and fresher than the boneless/skinless slabs you get at many Szechuan spots. They have one paper sheet menu and it was mostly in very big Chinese letters. There is English but it's printed in smaller font. When you order over $100 worth of food. They'll give you a complimentary sparkling juice with five flavors to choose from. I chose the passion fruit and it was very good. I ordered the spicy chicken and beef and ox tongue as appetizers. The appetizers were delicious. I order the spicy hot grilled fish tofu pudding big mouth bass. The big mouth bass was good but it was way too spicy. I was dying from the spiciness. I also ordered the dry pot dish with cauliflower. I didn't like the cauliflower that much. This restaurant is nice and clean. They offer you a big bag to put your clothes in. Why? They told me so the smell of the food don't get on your clothes. The service here is really good. There are a lot of waiters and they'll always come around to see everything is good. They'll literally ask you if everything is good lol. They always switched out plates and ask for anything else needed. At the end of our meal they gave us herbal jelly complimentary on the House. The server was really nice. But, he didn't tell me I had the option of ordering the food with less spice until I was taking care of the check. He should of told me I could order the food less spicy in the beginning. It was my first time coming to this restaurant so he helped me out with the menu. But, he should have warned me how spicy the food was going to be because I came here with a toddler. read more

Great authentic addition to the main flushing area. Awesome service and free soda if you scan the QR code on WeChat. We had lunch on a Saturday (they open at 12) which meant that we avoided the evening crowds. We ordered the original house spicy tofu flavor with the $55 fish option (some kind of bass, which had very little bones). You can do any combination of 4 side items for $8, we went with chinese veggies, green bean vermicelli, seaweed, and lotus root. They gave generous portions buried in the hot sauce. You can add an side order at the end, which we did with the veggies. They help you shift the burners on the bottom but parts of the hot sauce does get congealed. It also gets very spicy the longer it cooks, so if you're not used to Sichuan spicy, opt for the mild options. Will definitely come back and try other flavors of fish. Also tried the bbq squid, which had too much of the cumin flavor and was too chewy. read more

One of my favorite restaurants recently. I love crawfishes, and there are many places serving them in Flushing. Once I tried this place, boom, I got addicted to them. Their spicy ones tastes exactly like what I had before in Mainland. Strongly recommend this place if you dig crawfishes. read more
