Not authentic in the slightest, but still AYCE at a decent quality. We ordered the family style, with Tom Yum and Spicy (traditional). Our server brought out only Tom Yum, which you can tell just by looking at the orange color. He insisted it was the right soup and took another 10 minutes of back and forth before another server confirmed it was the wrong soup and made a new batch. I'm a spice eater and love me some peppers, especially in hot pot. When I asked the server for some extra spicy sauce to put into the not-spicy-enough broth, he told me it would cost $4 extra. Thought this was AYCE..... The sauce bar is cool, and they have a bunch of different types, but none of it tastes like chili oil or has any resemblance to the hot pot sauces that you would normally use for dipping. Something feels weird about dipping si chuan peppercorn flavored meat into sweet gochujang vinegary sauce. Meat quality is fine for AYCE - don't expect rib eye or prime meat. Cuts of beef are either mostly fat or lean and mean. But they do have scallops, which are frozen and you need to keep an eye on them because their cooking time seems to go from frozen solid to dehydrated pucks in the span of 15 secs (after simmering for 5 minutes in the broth) By the time we were done eating, it was around 2pm and the restaurant was completely empty, but I couldnt track down anyone to close out the check and we seriously contemplated rolling out after waiting 15 minutes. Nothing is worse than sitting there smelling the pungent broth after stuffing yourself with pounds of beef brisket. Overall really bad service. read more

I recently came here to celebrate a small birthday. This place is always bustling and busy so make sure you have reservations! Hotspot is definitely the place to go for your hotpot cravings. Hotspot is where you pick your broth type, (I picked the tom yum and shabu shabu), and they bring out raw ingredients for you to cook yourself. The ingredients range from beef brisket and chicken to seafoods such as fish balls, shrimp, crawfish, and octopus. The ingredients are pretty fresh and the broth they provided were well made. My group definitely had a good time with the food. As an all-you-can-eat, food quality is extroardinarily high. 10/10 for service. Waiters were constantly coming by replenishing our water, taking our next set of orders, and they even gave us alcohol recommendations. Make sure you take advantage of their sauce bar where you make your own sauce to dip your cooked food in. If you love your food, all of your food, damp and mildly warm, then you'll love the hot pot experience at Hot Spot. Walk into the restaurant on a busy evening and it's a steam bath. So humid that the floors are wet and slippery and condensation is sliding down the windows. The place is. . . roiling? Simply put, the server brings a pot of broth (one of four from which you can choose), and then a platter of raw meats, and a platter of raw veg. The pot has a strainer. Pick the meat and veggies from the platters you care to eat and toss them in the pot. Wait. Wait. Wait. Now, fish it out of the pot with your strainer and eat it. This is fun for those who like to wait and then fish things from warm pots. OK? I can see how this concept can be wildly popular. It's interactive, it's social, it's multi-sensory, and it can be really, really healthy. All the things the kids just love. I compliment Hot Spot for the quality ingredients. Service was good. All told, I suppose the price is fair. The bad part is Hot Spot is a one trick pony. Nice trick, pony, but I'm ready to see the rest of the rodeo. It is crowded and service is a bit slow. After another long day at work, we decided to grab some hot pot. Yes it was humid as heck and no we did not really think through it but we both didn't have Hot Pot for a while so decided to make it our dinner. It was a slight hike from the mclean area but we drove over to this joint through the traffic. This joint serves a large pot with two broths or individual broths which I thought was a nice difference from standard hot pot places. I was also a fan of the sauce bar where they provided multiple different sauces and you can mix and make your own. They provide recommended combinations on the wall above so a bit of fun creating the sauce to use for your hot pot. We decided to order the kimchi and another spicy broth and ordered a good mix of meats, veggies, and seafood. The food came out quickly and the quality of meats were solid. A pleasant surprise in this area. The veggies were solid as well and the servers were quick to come and offer more for our AYCE Hot Pot Experience. My excitement as I drove to Hot Spot was as high as it could be. I am sad to announce, it was a bit disappointing. You will find an adorable setting, great service, nice selection of broths, dipping food items, and sauces. You can't go wrong. My only complaint about this place is that it is usually too crowded to be seated quickly at normal hours. I usually wait to get dinner here around 9pm or later just to avoid the wait. It kind of works out though because I end up being really hungry and ready to get my money's worth. The broth options are limited, but you can easily add flavor to any broth by cooking food in it or adding sauces. The service is very quick once you're seated and the waiters almost always seem to know what they're doing, especially considering how hectic it can be in there. I typically opt to focus on the thinly sliced meats since they cook very quickly and I can EAT sooner. But I usually make my rounds and get order a little bit of everything. The place is very well run, clean, great ambiance, and very friendly staff. The deal is AYCE hot pot for 23 dollars, and it is genuinely all you can eat. Furthermore, they have a crazy amount of meat and vegetable options, including many different types of mushrooms, seafood, and different fishes like salmon and flounder. They also had unique broth options supplementing the typical Chinese Mala hot pot broth with other Asian inspired options, such as Tom yum, Kim chi, veggie, and shabu shabu broths. They also had a really nice sauce bar, with many different types of yummy sauces. The only "issue" I can think of is that it is a little pricey and they don't really pay attention to the amount of each item you request on your order sheet, but you get what you pay for, for sure - just come on an empty stomach! Usually I would give 5* but the last time I went with my family we unfortunately got a bad pot. I do really love Hot Pot and this is my favorite place to go. I love how my food tastes and I could literally eat there every day. The last time we got a pot that clearly had something burn in it before, whatever got burned there just made the pot keep the taste of burned. The very moment we started eating I tasted something burned and I said the food tasted weird to me. I didn't like it at all but I have really sensitive taste buds, so the others still enjoyed it and didn't mind. Well, usually I do eat a ton there but at the end I just couldn't anymore - which was about 1 hour in. I made my husband and rest of the family try the food and they didn't even have to, they could smell the burned taste that I have had the whole time. I let one of the managers/ team leaders know but she really didn't seem to care. I didn't want a refund nor a discount, I just wanted to let her know that this pot has established the taste of burned something. And it wasn't us who burned something, because it was tasting like that from the very beginning and we had a lot of broth in out pot. I am hesitant to go back, ESPECIALLY if we have to use a family pot again. If you notice something tastes off, don't be like me and wait to the end - say something right away. Maybe they believe you. I almost walked away after a few minutes in the restaurant. We came in at about 5pm for dinner and it wasn't really busy at that time. There was no one at the front of the restaurant to greet and seat diners. And it didn't help that there was a wall that blocks the view of the restaurant's entrance from the rest of the staff inside. But even when I walked around the wall to let the staff know that we're there, no one bothered to greet us or even informed whoever was supposed to be at the front about it. Finally, a staff came over only because someone was paying and when that was settled, he asked, "How may I help you?" Why would you ask that in a restaurant? Do they have other services? I was going to ask if they do plumbing or sell tires but settled with, "I'm here to eat." Took 1 star away for the under-par experience from the start. For just shy of $25 (pre-tax) per person, you get your money's worth, especially if you like seafood. The seafood selection includes fresh shrimps, crawfish, octopus, squids, clams, mussels, scallops, tilapia, and flounder. I like all types of mushrooms, which they also have a good variety. You can either have your personal hot pot which will only hold 1 type of broth (but you can always switch to another broth later on for a small charge) or a shared pot where you can have 2 broths in the same pot. We had the spicy and chicken broth in a shared pot. The spicy broth was not as spicy as I imagined. At the end of the day, the food saved the day. It took me some time to figure out what I liked but now that I know I'm a big fan. Most of the time "all you can eat" is wasted on me because I'm a little person with a little appetite. I had an experience at another hot pot place where they had pre-made hot pots and it just wasn't the same. Service is typically pretty reliable and they are good about bringing out additional food. You have two options, single hot pot to share with or separate hot pot for each person. Tables around the wall have the single hot pot while other tables in the middle have single hot pots only. Our waitress, Violet, is amazing. Always keep up with our reorders and refill on drinks. We ordered the Herbal and Spicy broth. We then ordered pretty much most of the seafood, meats, and vegetables. In total, we ordered five times. The only thing that I don't like is the marinated beefs. That didnt taste right with the broth. Both the broths are bland though so you do need to add sauce/concoctions to make it more "tasteful". I also ordered the butter beer w/ alcohol and then without. This remind me of the butter beer drink at Universal Studio where the new Harry Potter land is. It's close but not as good as the one at Universal. That one is richer and colder. Wait was very long for separate pots so we were offered to eat outside which we took because it was nice outside (a little annoyed that had enough pots to accommodate us outside but not inside - they offered the shared pots). I LOVE that they have different tofu options (soft and puffed) and also their meat offerings are sliced nice and thin so when everything is cooked, the portions come out just right. I especially love the sauce bar-- and they have recommendations written on the wall because it can get overwhelming. They brought out our selections quickly, however the waitress failed to tell us that there were no more dumplings and octopus left each time we placed a new order, until we asked (seeing that we never received it). But all in all the service was very efficient. They also have unique drink selections- my BFF ordered blueberry beer and I ordered the butter beer (like from Harry Potter world! ..except with rum in it hehe) but there is a non-alcoholic option, as with most drinks. So, I would recommend going instead on a weeknight instead of on a weekend evening. They have a very nice way of doing wait times. You can reserve a table if you have a group of 6 or more, but if you walk in, you are given a link on your phone so you can track your spot on the wait list. There's a nice bubble tea store in the same plaza if you're looking to pass some time while waiting. Their hot pot items are amazing. You get 2 hours to order whatever you want off the menu, and there are a lot of options. All the meats and veggies come out fresh, and the meat is sliced thin and cooks very quickly once the broth is boiling. You also have your choice of broths, including the option to do individual pots or family style. I love this place. Service is always great. Food is fresh and reasonably priced. I came here the other day with some friends. Luckily we arrived right before 6 and our wait was only 30 minutes. The sauce station has all types of sauces to fit your taste buds. The waitresses always keep your broth stocked and check in on you to make sure your next order is placed. I enjoy this place compared to others because the meat and vegetables are fresh. You get large assortment of meat from tripe, crawfish, beef tongue to daikon, all types of mushrooms and bok choy.
