I came here on Saturday at night during a busy time, and there were 6 of us. We were seated surprisingly quickly and we got our orders in. I didn't like how we couldn't control the fire, and it took a long time for our broth to start boiling. The Shabu Shabu broth was a bit on the salty end, but it was okay. The food quality was pretty good, the meat and the veggies looked fresh. However, the seafood was all frozen and didn't taste very good, so my advice is to stick with the other things on the menu. This is a great hot pot place in NoVA area. Compared to other places in terms of price and flavor, this is the best in this area for its price. Food: It is All You Can Eat, and as with every other AYCE, if you order too much and don't finish and has a time limit (2 hours), they will charge you a fee. The food is really good though, I would recommend getting the family sized pot instead of the individual ones, if your party is willing, the food goes in a lot faster and cooks quicker that way, and you get to choose two different types of broth. I usually go for their Shabu Shabu and the spicy broth but other broths are pretty good, too, especially Tom Yum. Compared to other hotpot places I've been, this place's broth feels a little flat and not as deep in flavor profile. The meats are frozen but delicious and I never really had any issue with the quality. They have variety of meat choices, like beef tongue, lamb, tripes. Veggies are fresh and there are so many different types, it is worth the money you pay. They also have a sauce bar where you can make your own sauce, or follow one of their recommendations. Atmosphere: It is nice and cozy, tucked away in the corner, and not a lot of seatings. Even before COVID, they would have a wait list for people to get in, or nowadays, they do have a take out option, but I've never ordered it that way before. The service is nice, I never had any real issues with it, they would bring us our food quickly even though they can get pretty busy. Parking: There is enough parking most of the time. I did have couple times, especially in the evening, when I would have difficulty finding a place to park. There are other parking lots around, although it doesn't belong to the mall Hot Spot is in. This has always have been my favorite spot to get hot pot for a very long time. I guess not anymore. Today my friends and I came in to have hot pot after a long day at work, we arrived at 9:50pm and got seated 5 minutes after. One of my friend came 10 minutes after that. We got served and everything seemed okay until 10:30pm and Enji ( our waitress) told us that was the last call, and we said ok and put the last order in. At 10:45pm she came and told us if we wanted to check out, and I said ok while giving her my card. One of my friend asked "what time are you guys closing?" And she said "We close at 11, so you gotta be outta here by 11". ???? We have to be outta here??? Excuse me?! Not yet, the entire staff kept giving us the stare after they got the cheque like "why tf are u guys still here". At the end, we got out of the shop at 10:55 without being greeted (of course what do you expect from a place with 0/10 customer service). Matter of fact, one of my friend was not full yet because we were rushed to gtfo. We just tried to have a good meal after work, not that we chose to came late. Honestly I work at a restaurant, i understand how frustrating it is to get late customers and late closing, but I would never give that shitty attitude to customers, please learn to have some manner and decency. This place used to be a hidden gem in Fairfax, but as it's gotten more popular the service has gotten worse but luckily the food has remained delicious. Hot spot serves all you can eat hot pot for $22/person both in family style, split family style, and Shabu Shabu style. The menu is fantastic with a variety of meats and veggies to choose from. If you do Shabu Shabu each person can choose a broth. My go to is the spicy but the kimchi and Tom yum are also very tasty. It gets very crowded here so if you don't want to wait go during a non peak time. They take reservations for parties bigger than 6 but otherwise you might have a wait. The service isn't great but usually if you flag down a waiter or waitress they're happy to help. Overall--fantastic food, good ambience, but I wish they'd open other locations! read more

I am writing a second review just as update. I love hot pot and this is my favorite place to go. Recommended to friends many times. When I introduce hot pot to my friends, Hot Spot is the place we go. They just renovated the entire place and we loved it! It is looking great. The only thing we don't like about the renovations is the less flexible sitting since the pots must be placed in a fixed location. We noticed that the steam can be annoying in your face. But not sure how they could control that! The add new things to the menu - ramen that I love!! Anyways, we love this place and this is our place to go when we want to eat lots of food. read more

Initially I was skeptical about this place because my family and I eat hot pot fairly regularly, my aunt's sauce is beast, and I couldn't imagine a better hot pot experience than what I can get at home. I'm glad I tried it, but family still does better sauce and fresher ingredients. We got there right before the Sunday night rush and quickly ordered 1 of everything for our individual hot pots, went to make our sauces, and everything was set up when we returned. I got the spicy broth, which, while it was delicious and hardly needed any additional sauce, may have been a bit ambitious. After our waiter saw me gulping down my cup of water he was sure to pop up whenever it was getting low. Highlights included the scallops, fatty brisket, and our poached/hard boiled egg experimentation. (I recommend hard boiling if you get the spicy broth, unless you're a master egg poacher). I really like the spicy broth, but I realize that it gets too much for me towards the end, where I wish I had a non-spicy broth. I really wanted to like this place because there are so many good things that I hear. The meat was low quality. The seafood had a stink to it, and the soup was not good as other hot pot places in the area. It was almost like salt water with a little flavoring to it. It was not spicy at all. I would spend a little more at Little Mongolian Sheep or 99 C Hot Pot. In terms of cleanliness, the spoons, bowls, and chopsticks both had gunk stuck to them, and the waiter had to bring out dishes twice before they got us "clean" utensils. Definitely a great experience. Perfect for a date when you want to take a while talking and getting to know someone. Delicious Asian style foods! It's set up where you pick a broth or two and they get it boiling on your table. Then bring all kinds of things that you pick to drop in raw and you then pull them and the soup out and eat as much as you want. It's like an all you can eat style place. You can also go to the sauce stand and mix your own delicious mixture. They have high chairs for the little ones. And alcohol for the big ones. We chose to get peach fizzs though. The restaurant does have a bar as well. The place has a morning time and then they close and reopen for evening. Great hot spot place and all you can't eat. They have a make your own sauce station which is awesome. I combine the sesame sauce with house spicy sauce, onions, garlic, scallions, pepper, and cilantro. I ordered the tom yum broth which is a little sour and pretty spicy, but very tasty. Then ordered the brisket, prime ribeye, fish balls, bok choy, squid, dumplings, enochi, puffed tofu, and octopus. All the food was very good, and it's better to do individual pots so you can cook what you want. Staff is very friendly, but this place does get packed so be aware of that. We place the order,it took them almost 30 Mn. to bring the food on 2nd order same thing took them TM to bring food they only served Veg. and fish cakes. Almost 45 -50 MN later still no seafood. Two best things I enjoy here are the DIY sauce bar and the fresh quality of the ingredients. If you step back to look, there's a board above the sauce bar listing mixes concocted by the staff. Too much to think about while your stomach is growling? There's two house sauces, one of which is sesame based and slightly sweet, and the other is it's spicier (mildly) cousin. After several visits the ingredients have always looked great, but that doesn't guarantee the next time! Choose the ribeye over the fatty brisket as the latter is often mostly white, which will make your broth too oily if you like to eat/drink your broth at the end as I do. Scallops and clams are fresh and tender; the shrimp varies a little more but are still OK. AYCE at a low $20s price point, it's somewhat high considering you're doing all the cooking but much like self-checkout, they've already got you suckered. At least you don't have the stench of newbies burning their food to a crisp like at self-cook Korean BBQ. read more
