I visited Portland Maine this weekend. Hot Suppa was highly recommended by a once long time resident. I concur with the recommendation. I ate there with my girlfriend this past Saturday. I tried the latest edition to their menu...blue fish hash with scrambled eggs and rye toast. It was quite tasty. I also had a waffle on the side. Delicious! The service was great also. We had a little wait at lunch time, but it was pleasant. We sat out on the patio, which is quite lovely in the shade, and spacious. We tried the Maine Maple Latte based on another review, and we definitely recommend it! My wife is not a coffee drinker, but she loved it! My wife had the waffle plate, which she thoroughly enjoyed. The Maine Maple syrup is definitely worth the extra cost! I had the eggs Benedict, which was fantastic. All elements of it were just right, superb, even. The friend and I came here after the guy at the Hertz counter recommended it highly. Turns out that his girlfriend works here but hey, this man knows good food! I ordered the eggs benedict w/fried green tomatoes and my friend ordered the corned beef hash. We were on a month long roadtrip so our dining experiences were a little eccentric. What we would do is each pick an entree, swap them, take the first bite and then describe to eachother, in great detail, our experience. It was pretty awesome to then enjoy your dish after hearing your friend rave about how good it was and why. By the end of our trip we became professionals at using imaginative flowery and tantalizing words, hah, it makes me laugh just thinking about it now. Got seated for a table of 3 and the server was very attentive to us right away. Ordered the charbroiled oysters, also ordered the $1.50 oysters (right!?!? 1.50?!?!) and the 3 of us ordered the friedchicken, as it was the most popular choice). I was SUPER TEMPTED to order the nashville fried chicken because of the VERY HOT, YOU TRY ON YOUR OWN RISK spicy warning but i was also scared. The server offered to have the sauce on the side for a buck more, which i happily comply with. For my side, i ordered the shirmp, corn gumbo Ok lets start with the oysters - now now, lets not start a yelp storm, BUT...it was my first time having it -_-, so does my review count? YES! The charbroiled ones were delicious, with that garlic butter and parm...OMGGGOODDNESSS...why are you delicious. Then i had my raw oyster...i mean...for a 1.5, if i didnt like it...it didnt hurt my wallet. It was a bit more on the sweeter end but i have to say...it wasnt my favorite (cause i dont like the texture) Ok...enough already - to the main course....my CHICKEN. So sidenote - i was a bit upset that my friend got like an extra piece of chicken (3 in total) and i only got 2, wth?! Anyways, so here is my chicken, i believe one was thigh and one was breast. The skin was crispy and flavorful, not thin crispy though. The chicken meat itself...could have use a bit more love with some seasoning..i felt like it could have seep in a bit more. The chicken, i do have to say...was moist and not dry. I had a hard time finding the meat in one of my piece so i was a bit sad. The gumbo soup was a bit disappointing...i felt like it was a bit on the lighter side where as the gumbo texture is much thick and rich. I even tried adding the nashville hot sauce to it to see if it would taste (dont do it!) ONTO my main point - the nashville sauce...to be honest, it is spicy...like shit does kinda hurt...BUT BUT BUT! the part that im upset about it....it is nasty bitter...it has nothing but bitter and burn, so it was not enjoyable! Can you imagine if i have gotten my fried chicken covered in that?! I WOULD HAVE BEEN SO DISAPPOINTED!! I had to mix it with ketchup to enjoy the chicken. read more

It looks like 600+ people have already beat me to it, but man, I love this place. The food is amazing, the drinks are pretty tasty and everything about it just screams perfect! Most people write about the brunch I feel like - it's beyond awesome - but I really love coming here for their dinner. The Hot Chicken is so good. I mean SO. GOOD. But it's definitely HOT! Every time I come here, the food is consistently the best. I also really love their Pulled Pork Mac and Cheese. Drinks are good - they a good assortment of local beers. They could do better on the cider front. I really enjoy the Porch Swing as well. Oh my god I never leave here after brunch without some sort of food induced sugar coma my latest time was no different. I came here on a Saturday morning at 8:45 there was a twenty minute wait which any Portland native knows here is nothing. So my mom and I waited and we were inside probably in about 15 minutes being shown to our table. Our server was with us quickly and had coffee moments after handing us menus. I got the waffles with blueberry compote and homemade whipped cream, sooooooo gooood I can't say that enough. They came in small thin and light triangle shapes rather than a large Belgian style which I think made it better, personally the big Belgian style waffle can get a little soggy. My mother had two pieces of french toast, she wouldn't allow me a taste and I could tell why it looked damn good. We both got one alcholic drink with our meal as well, Aperol Spritz for me and a mimosa for my mom. That was the only negative here was that there was a lot of ice in the tall beer style glass the mimosa was served in which watered down the drink. read more

It was definitely disappointing after the high expectations from other reviews. The serve was subpar compared to other restaurants in Portland. When we arrived, we were informed that it would be an half hour wait; however, it actually ended up being over an hour and there still wasn't a table to fit us. After we were squeezed into a table too small for all of us, the service was very slow despite that we can see the waitresses just huddling together and talking. The food varied. Between everyone's orders, I tried Nashville Hot Chicken, Hot Cat, and Pulled Pork Mac and Cheese. Nashville Hot Chicken was the best, I only wish I had higher heat tolerance to eat more. Hot Cat (don't worrry, it's actually catfish, they are not serving cat) was a little bland in taste even though the menu had indicated that it was spicy. We went because the reviews seemed great. Overall everything was fine but a little pricey. I got a burger and fries - the fries were soggy and the burger was decent but just okay. The bun and pickles were tasty (though I was surprised to find the pickles on the burger were tangy dill and the ones on the side were sweet), but overall overcooked. So this new review is based on dinner only. I went in recently, and the service was great, everyone was super friendly. We were actually seated really fast, which I wasn't used to since being used to their breakfast wait. I went with their lobster roll special, and it came with cole slaw. As a Portlander I should have known better than to get a lobster roll as a special, at a place that doesn't consistently serve lobster rolls...that's my bad. It was really small, and had some heavy hollandaise sauce that masked all the lobster flavor. I didn't eat the cole slaw, since it looked like its base was vinegar or oil instead of mayonnaise. They don't have any options for kids, so we paid $18 for the chicken and waffles, and she only ate the waffle. But she said it was a great waffle! 2 huuuuuuge pieces of chicken came with it, so I guess it would have been worth the $18 if you ate the whole thing haha. Clearly we should stick to breakfast there. They are the best of the best with breakfast. The 3 stars are purely on my entrees and lack of a few basic options for younger folk. We stopped in at 7:30 right when they opened on a Sunday. The little one had woken us up at 5am and we decided to head out for breakfast since we were all up early. Nice and crispy on top with the perfect complement of shredded hash browns on the side. We ordered our 15 month old some scrambled eggs and a biscuit; stealing a bite of her biscuit I think has convinced me to go for the biscuits and gravy next time- yum. But I want to really complement the staff, I was hesitant to bring our daughter to many of places; tight quarters and not necessarily a kid-oriented restaurant. Not that it's anti-kid at all; but you know what I mean, just not the typical demographic. Everyone was fabulous - we were given a high chair right away and not a problem to order a few sides for her, one not even on the menu. They just totally put me at ease, I didn't feel like a burden with a toddler which sometimes I do in places (I admit perhaps just self conscious on my end...)
