We continued our Sunday night tradition of Chinese takeout but this week decided to try out a new place. The menu seemed reasonable and lots of options. Ordered online with a 15 minute estimated time for pickup. Jumped in the jeep and headed down the street. Walked in to pickup our food and wasn't sure if we were at an Amazon restaurant or Chinese takeout. There were boxes all over the place for things like mirrors, electronics, etc they were def not supplies for a restaurant. They have multiple display cases with electronics, game controlllers and some shelves with random items. Seems they run an Amazon sellers shop out of the restaurant too. Whatever tho.. gotta make your money! The employee working counter was super friendly and cheerful, we waited 2-3 minutes for food to be done and back to Jeep to head home to eat. The food was hot, fresh and very tasty. We both enjoyed our meals very much. Put a note of "spicy" in both entrees and mine was def hot. The tofu sauce was very sweet and not as spicy. I cannot commend this restaurant enough for their outstanding food! Being a vegetarian sometimes it can be a challenge finding somebody who will substitute tofu in lieu of meat. I have been craving honey tofu for whatever reason and this restaurant was able to make this for me, most places say no. I have to say rich with flavor this honey tofu was beyond words outstanding! My friend ordered Kong pow chicken which she said was very spicy her preference and rich with flavor. We were both impressed with the extremely high-quality food we received. To top it off their prices are extremely reasonable. We had delivery set up to come to work and it only took 40 minutes to cross the bridge. Not bad timing during lunch hour! I am updating my review to say that they sold me TWO ROTTEN egg drop soups, the large size. I called to inform them and she rudely asked why I was calling so late when the food was delivered hours ago. My son ate one earlier when it was delivered and he's only 4 years old I didn't notice the moldy eggs. I hope he doesn't get sick! I just started to eat mine just now took a bite and immediately gagged and wanted to throw up!!!! I looked and immediately saw GREEN eggs. Pictured below. Be careful. We ordered from hot wok and had it delivered twice. The first time the food was delivered within 15 minutes of ordering. We ordered the general tso's, bourbon chicken, cream cheese rolls, and donut appetizers because we were craving unhealthy food. Everything was good except for the white rice and the bourbon chicken. The chicken was not appetizing and the white rice was dry. We do not normally eat Chinese food very frequently but the general tso's was better than any of the other Chinese food places we have tried in riverside. Our second time ordering we ordered the orange chicken, the steamed chicken with snap peas and broccoli with a ginger sauce, cream cheese rolls (my husband really enjoyed these last time), and sweet and sour pork. Delivery took approximately 30 minutes so they must have been busy but the food arrived nice and hot. All items were good but my favorite was the chicken with steamed broccoli and snap peas because it had a great amount of veggies. You have to select a sauce and I was concerned it would arrived drowned in the sauce, completely defeating the purpose of getting steamed veggies, but to my wonderful surprise it arrived on the side. The ginger sauce had fresh slices of ginger and was a nice addition to lightly drizzle over the dish. This is definitely the place we will order Chinese from while we live in JAX. read more

Hot Wok just opened by me, so last night I decided to order from there and try it out instead of my regular go-to Chinese takeout restaurant. In terms of the menu, it is the same as just about every Chinese takeout restaurant. The restaurant was very clean, which is expected being that it's new. I often find that Chinese restaurants aren't up to par with my expectations of cleanliness, so this was pleasant. The staff was friendly, and the woman that took my order was helpful. I decided on the Triple Delight (steamed, sauce on the side) which was around $10 and a Lo Mein combo plate ($7.50) that came with fried rice and an egg roll. The wait was quick--about 10 minutes. Unfortunately, when I got home, I saw that instead of the Lo Mein they accidentally gave me an order of honey chicken. I called them and they apologized--they then let me keep the honey chicken and gave me the triple delight as well. The food was tasty and not too greasy which is good. The triple delight (beef, chicken, shrimp, veggies) was good but only had 3 shrimp and limited meat (mostly veggies) which was a little disappointing . Being close proximity to my house, and the fact that the place is clean with friendly staff, Hot Wok will likely become my Chinese food takeout restaurant of choice. read more

Full on lit cigarette dangling out of his mouth as he was chopping meat and working over the wok. I stared at him and when he saw me see him, he turned away and put out the cigarette. I ordered lunch for myself yesterday, as a treat, and thought I'd try Hot Wok for a change. Yes, they do deliver (minimum $10 order), but instead of the 45 minutes I was told it would take, it took 1 1/4 hours. I was just picking up the phone to cancel my order when he pulled up outside. I wanted to keep it simple so I ordered a small chicken fried rice and a pu pu platter, planning on making two meals out of it. Definitely enough for two people. The fried rice was moist and tasty with lots of pieces of chicken in it. The platter contained 2 each of beef on a stick (average), chicken on a stick (very good), whole chicken wing (average), spring rolls w/shrimp (average), cheese/crab fried wonton (excellent), and shrimp toast (overcooked and greasy - gave to the dog). They included two tubs of sauces, one a sweet and sour sauce (ugh) and the other some strange ranch dill sauce. Tossed both. Also included soy sauce, duck sauce and hot sauce - not hot mustard though, surprised by that. No napkins nor plastic utensils were included, but 3 fortune cookies were (gave those to my kids when they got home). All in all, for the price charged, the lateness of the delivery and the quality of the food, I will not be ordering from Hot Wok again - I'll stick with China Joy instead (also located on Margaret St.). read more

Hot Wok is pretty delicious. The menu is huge but I normally get the same thing vegetable mei fun. Sometimes I get "Chinese donuts" because they are also delicious. When we get take out it's always ready in a timely fashion but when we get takeout (twice now) the food takes about an hour and twenty minutes to arrive even tho we were told 45 minutes. I am not a huge fan of Chinese Delivery. It's a little greasy and questionable for my general liking, BUT sometimes it calls my name. And when it does, this place is always reliable and tasty. The menu is pretty standard as far Chinese restaurants go, but they do have some great fried tofu options on their menu that are really well prepared. Even if you aren't a tofu fan, this tofu is crispy and well seasoned, making it a very enjoyable meal. If you are looking for something on the lighter side, check out their Dieter's Gourmet selections. I ordered the Mixed Vegetables [that come steamed] paired with a side of white rice and your choice of dipping sauces [Brown, Garlic - hot, Oriental White Wine Sauce, and Ginger Sauce]. Not sure what happened but after my last delivery that took about an hour and brought cold food we did not enjoy...I will not do that again no matter how tired I am. Why is garlic fried chicken red? And soggy? Yuck. Stick to what you do well and maybe take some things off the menu. If you are charging for delivery 45 minutes is a good time frame maximum especially when I am 10 minutes away. After reading some of the reviews, I was somewhat leery of ordering take out here. Fortunately, I had a good experience. Delivery time was one-half hour. The food was hot and tasty. Only downside is the fried rice is yellow rice and less than tasty. Next time I will order the upgrade fried rice and see if that is actually fried rice. The food is always good, hot and fresh...once a few years back I got the wrong order but it gave the chance to try Singapore Mi Fun which is spicy and very good. Food taste was alright. What was disappointing is their customer service. I paid $5.90 for 2 orders of spring rolls and when I called to explain a set was missing she told me I had to give back the cheese rolls. I explained to her that part was correct but she argued me down that if they brought the spring rolls then they had to keep the cheese ones. Maybe it was a language barrier or maybe it wasn't.
